- tkkerr, on 10/13/2008, -0/+10For a glimpse at what may well be the Rosetta Stone of Republican disenfranchisement efforts, one need look no further than at what Paul Weyrich, one of the founding fathers of modern American conservatism, told a gathering of some 15,000 preachers at a training conference in Dallas, Texas in 1980 (at which both Ronald Reagan and the right-wing Rev. Jerry Falwell also shared the podium).
"Many of our Christians have what I call the goo-goo syndrome - good government. They want everybody to vote," Weyrich instructed the flock in comments captured on video.
"I don't want everybody to vote," he continued unapologetically. "Elections are not won by a majority of people, they never have been from the beginning of our country and they are not now."
And here comes the key to what will be the most crucial driving force for the entire Republican party effort this November: "As a matter of fact, our leverage in the elections quite candidly goes up as the voting populace goes down." - jackieblu, on 10/13/2008, -0/+6The GOP can't be trusted. They are trying anything, and everything to win. It's a disgrace, and shameful, and I pray their tactics don't work this time - and I have a feeling they won't!

Fact: No criminal charges related to voter registration have ever been brought against ACORN or partner organizations. Convictions against individual former ACORN workers have been accomplished with our full cooperation, using the evidence obtained through our quality control and verification processes - evidence which in most cases WE called to the attention of authorities - Arishia, on 10/13/2008, -0/+5Now we know why Phil Gramm thinks America is a nation of whiners. He's been hanging around with too many conservatives. Tell him that over half the people are a nation of guffawers, laughing at the constant whining coming from the conservatives.
- gnocchi1442, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1This is not just idle whining. The GOP are masters of these tactics and they're preparing the way for a wholesale purge of new voters. When millions of new voters find out that they can't vote, the GOP is all set to say "See? We TOLD you ACORN was trouble!"
It'll take until the second year of President Palin's term to find the truth, and another four years to make it part of the public consciousness.
