3,000 GIs Mob Barack in Baghdad (Video and Goodies)
dailykos.com — A great video and photo diary of Barack's reception by Troops and Embassy personnel in Baghdad. BTW, the Embassy personnel - they either didn't get Condi's memo or it accidentally ended up in the shredder. Oops! LOL

- bluezinc, on 07/23/2008, -4/+11Don't mind the trolls. They're still pissed that Digg stopped obsessing over Ron Paul.
- theaceoffire, on 07/23/2008, -4/+3Ron Paul wants to change where the US is headed.
McCain doesn't.
Obama Does.
I know who I want to support.
- theaceoffire, on 07/23/2008, -4/+3Ron Paul wants to change where the US is headed.
- ordig, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1No one really knows what Obama is going to do. Given his voting record he could end up being a "black Bush" I'm Just saying don't put your faith in him without some proof of his intentions, because he may turn out to be just as much of a corporate tool as the last round of political leaders.
His votes on FISA and the Patriot act dont give me much hope.
- Macrophage, on 07/22/2008, -11/+36Maybe McCain should of went too....It would of been interesting to watch the different reactions to both of them...better than those Town Halls "Debates"

- MrSalty, on 07/23/2008, -0/+4To have, or have not, that is the question.
- smittie, on 07/24/2008, -0/+2Mr McCain actually suggested a joint trip. Mr. Obama is the one who refused.

- neognostic, on 07/22/2008, -12/+31Watch out what you ask for McCain, you just might get it.
Obama '08 - Luvlacie, on 07/22/2008, -9/+47Well - the Republicans asked for it and they are getting it. LMAO. They are so jealous right now that they don't know what to do with themselves. Bone up on the economy would be a start. You called Senator Obama out and he answered the call in grand style.
Obama 08.- PolishLogic, on 07/22/2008, -17/+10Yes, that FISA vote was just what I was hoping for!! I loves me some wiretappin'.
- marabout40, on 07/22/2008, -9/+9Good luck to you and your FISA vote grudge.
- PolishLogic, on 07/22/2008, -10/+4I'm just trying to see how all those people with that Iraq war grudge feel. It's more of an experiment than anything.
- soot, on 07/23/2008, -3/+5"I loves me some wiretappin'."
Good, get used to it. He voted to restore authority to the FISA court to approve domestic wiretaps the way they were always done before Bush misused them. - bluezinc, on 07/23/2008, -3/+3Yes, because McCain is going to be so much better with civil rights and respecting your privacy...
I was pissed when Obama voted for the FISA bill, too, but I'm a big boy now and I understand certain things have to be done to get what you want in the end. Once he is president I'm sure this type of legislation will get vetoed if it ever reaches his desk in the first place.
Remember, George Bush pretty much set precedent that a president can break as many laws as he wants and get away with it, hopefully Obama will break a few bad laws and somehow punish the communications companies after all. - PolishLogic, on 07/23/2008, -2/+4"Once he is president I'm sure this type of legislation will get vetoed **if it ever reaches his desk in the first place**."
Yes, because we all know that a Democratic congress would never vote for legislation like this....in a landslide vote. Oh wait.....
"and somehow punish the communications companies after all."
Don't worry, I won't bother to wake you from you dream. It's so cute to still see people that believe that our democrats and republicans are sooo different. - bluezinc, on 07/23/2008, -1/+1@PolishLogic
I see your point, but the Dems do this kind of ***** because they have no spine because the president is Republican. Things will be different with a Democrat in the white house, but how different remains to be seen.
My original post is very naive, but I can still dream that AT&T will get their ***** ***** up, right? - CryRightardCry, on 07/23/2008, -2/+1LOL
Day after day you are a dishonest piece of *****.
How proud you must be!
It's impressive how you blame Obama for the actions of Bush.
It just goes to show that you rigthards are dumb ***** with not an ounce of integrity.
Still warmongering but still too ***** to man up and enlist, eh you sad little bitch?
I know you THINK you are clever, but the fact that you now blame the Dems for the stuff you cheered for just proves what a despicable puddle of filth you are.
How do you stand to look yourself in the mirror?
- PolishLogic, on 07/22/2008, -17/+10Yes, that FISA vote was just what I was hoping for!! I loves me some wiretappin'.
- MisterWonderful, on 07/22/2008, -25/+5You guys have it all wrong. All those soldiers showed up to beg Obama to stay for a few more tours.
Silly liberals.- thepoliticalcat, on 07/22/2008, -4/+22If you're being sarcastic, which I think (hope) you are, you ought to realize that after eight years of Chimpy McIncompetent, everyone's sarcasmometer is broken.
- overridemymind, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2Dugg for use of the term "sarcasmometer"
Lol. Seriously though -- Obama FTW! (I wish he'd come visit the soldiers here in Korea -- just cause I'd like to meet him -- prolly won't help his cause much because the focus is on the Mideast, but I'd still take a day off to go shake his hand.)
Obama '08! - hmunkey, on 07/23/2008, -1/+1Clever insertion of the word 'hope' in there.

- thepoliticalcat, on 07/22/2008, -4/+22If you're being sarcastic, which I think (hope) you are, you ought to realize that after eight years of Chimpy McIncompetent, everyone's sarcasmometer is broken.
- thepoliticalcat, on 07/22/2008, -7/+30The way the soldiers on the ground are reacting to him is very telling. During his brief speech, multiple cameras were clicking on and on. He's going to be a great leader.
- ordig, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1Or, he won't. and those troops will still be there four years from now. Given Obama's voting record, we don't really know.
- tkstock, on 07/22/2008, -20/+18There are decidedly different tactics to each candidate. During McCain's trip to Iraq in March, McCain said "the trip to the Middle East and Europe was a fact-finding venture, not a campaign photo opportunity." -Forbes.com
One of them actually goes there for a reason other than to get elected!! Imagine that!!!
It's unfortunate that McCain might lose because the election has become a popularity contest rather than a discussion of the issues. The fact that Maliki's position on troop withdrawal matches McCain's plan more than Obama's has escaped the MSM.
Sure, vote with your heart - if you use your brain, you might choose McCain.- motivatedmama, on 07/22/2008, -12/+11Facts? As in the proper names of countries and factions within those countries? Yes, yes, we've all seen what McCain does with facts. How could using one's brain result in a vote for McCain when McCain barely utilizes his own?
Obama obviously already had a handle on the "facts" and is now talking solutions. It's called diplomacy and progress. Things we've nearly forgotten over the past eight years but are now being resurrected.
As for the MSM, they tried to snowball the public with the Maliki misquote myth. Didn't work as we had the original article. Tsk, tsk.
A vote for Obama isn't just from the heart, a vote for Obama is voting smart.
And the men who hold high places, must be the ones who start, to mold a new reality, closer to the heart.
~RUSH- tkstock, on 07/22/2008, -5/+7I love Rush - they were the first band I ever went to see in concert - the Show of Hands tour in 1991 or 1992. I had second-row middle seats at the Dean Dome in Chapel Hill, NC. Great concert, almost caught Alex Lifeson's guitar pic when he threw it into the crowd.
People always misspeak, especially those who aren't as eloquent as Mr. Obama. I won't hold incidents of misspeaking against Obama, but I'm sure you'll hold it against McCain whenever you can.
The FACT is that we're in the stronger position in Iraq today because of the surge which Obama opposed and said would increase violence. So much for judgment. You can sweep that one under the rug if you like.
The FACT is that McCain will not repeat the mistakes of the past administration - leaving our troops undermanned and allowing violence to increase again. The promise of a withdrawal based on an arbitrary timeline that ignores the facts on the ground is dangerous at best and could be catastrophic if it's too precipitous. McCain's plan is a harder pill to swallow, but is more realistic and allows us the ability to leave Iraq in a better place than it is today. - motivatedmama, on 07/22/2008, -7/+6I truly doubt that Obama will not take conditions on the ground into consideration, as he has stated often and to his own detriment with the Left. That should say much, that he is willing to stick his neck out and give a pragmatic position regardless of the howls. If McCain/Bush are so sure of the success of the surge, why the refusal to discuss any timetable at all? Shouldn't the Iraqi government have some say in this? Why are, god knows how many, permanent military bases required to maintain this "peace"?
There's McCain's domestic agenda to be considered. I just can NOT, will NOT accept McCain's policies concerning tax breaks and his sorry excuse for a health care plan among many others. The gas tax and offshore drilling panders are disingenuous and insulting. There are more issues to consider than the war, though that is a huge one. We need help here at home and we need the $$$ to see it done. I could go on.
No, I do not gratuitously bash McCain. I have serious issue with his mental capabilities. It is a serious consideration. All that aside, I'll probably vote Blue for the rest of my life after witnessing the disaster of the past 8 years.
Than being said...
I've seen Rush 3 times and the last time I took my kids for their very first concert experience ever. Couldn't do better! Oddly enough, I played a Rush's Greatest CD repeatedly today at work and I've often thought Closer to the Heart would be a wonderful campaign song for Obama ; ) - tkstock, on 07/23/2008, -2/+8How can you take conditions on the ground into consideration and have a definitive timetable? What if the conditions get worse in the second year after you've pulled out 3/4 of the troops? The timetable is arbitrary and useless if you're truly going to base your withdrawal on conditions on the ground.
I would respect goals for troop replacement - our troops replaced by Iraqis, and our troops come home. There can be goals as to when this will happen, but it sounds like Obama is for bringing our troops home no matter the cost based on a 16 month timeline that is based on what?
As far as Obama's domestic policies, I regard them as potentially catastrophic to our economy.
Here is an example: under the Obama Social Security plan, a person who makes $1 million per year will pay $93,000 more in taxes. Sounds great, right? Where will that $93,000 come from? It's not stuck under a mattress or collecting interest in a low yield savings account. It's invested in other companies which in turn allows them to hire more people and spur the economy. When you tax the rich, you're essentially taking that money out of the economy. He's going to take that money and increase the size of the government bureaucracy and put more people into the social welfare program - not a plan for success.
Next is his payroll tax increases - which increases the costs of companies to have employees here in the US. And you complain that BUSH drove jobs out of the country? Just you wait if Obama gets his hands on the corporations...
The third thing is healthcare. You want Obama to put your healthcare in the hands of the same government most people bash? The same government who brought you the Katrina response? Do you really think our government is more efficient than private business?
Lastly, energy: I think Obama and McCain are roughly on the same page with regards to future energy. What is lacking in Obama's plan is something more immediate. The democrats and drilling opponents say it will take 10 years, the guys actually doing the drilling say 2 to 4 years. One thing is for sure - in 2, 4, or 10 years we'll still be using oil, why not get it from our own resources instead of from our enemies?
BTW, I also think McCain's gas tax holiday was a gimmick. But he's right in saying we need to do all of these things: oil, coal, natural gas, solar, wind, etc. A diversified energy policy is advantageous because not all our eggs will be in one basket.
McCain's age and mentality are legitimate issues, that's why I hope he chooses a good VP. I will take those issues over the one's that Obama brings to the table. - overridemymind, on 07/23/2008, -5/+2If I may interject on one point --
I see what you're getting at here, guys -- but Obama has stated on several occasions that the drawdown would be based on conditions on the ground -- IE, he'd LIKE (sorry, no italics on digg, I'm not trying to yell here) to see everyone out in about 18 months or so, but if violence flares up again, then he'd stop the drawdown and even send in more troops, if need be.
Just something I wanted to point out. Good points on both sides, btw, gentlemen -- I'm actually refreshed to see a debate go on without resorting to childlike behavior (that's a rarity on the 'net these days, you know.)
Cheers. - phrenzy, on 07/23/2008, -5/+2Intelligent back and forth dialogue on both sides of these issues - refreshing to see on digg.. You guys DO know you are on digg right?
- tkstock, on 07/23/2008, -1/+6overridemymind, I think both McCain and Obama would LIKE to have the troops out tomorrow, but the needs of the Iraqis have to be taken into account. McCain is being more of a pessimist / realist about how long it will take, Obama is being a optimist and planning for the best case.
We had one president already who failed miserably when planning for the best case. - tkstock, on 07/23/2008, -0/+6phrenzy, LOL.
You're correct - intelligent debate doesn't happen too often here, but I enjoy it when it does. Too many people here take a blasé stance when it comes to serious issues. They don't want to take the time to think about it, but it's too important.
Too many people here will vote for Obama because he's a good speaker (in front of a teleprompter) or McCain because he's a war hero. What people need to be debating are the issues and the candidate's positions on those issues and how their positions will impact the country in the short and long term.
- tkstock, on 07/22/2008, -5/+7I love Rush - they were the first band I ever went to see in concert - the Show of Hands tour in 1991 or 1992. I had second-row middle seats at the Dean Dome in Chapel Hill, NC. Great concert, almost caught Alex Lifeson's guitar pic when he threw it into the crowd.
- marabout40, on 07/22/2008, -10/+7"The fact that Maliki's position on troop withdrawal matches McCain's plan more than Obama's has escaped the MSM."
I don't remember Maliki saying anything about permanent bases for 100 or 1,000 or years or even until 2013 - all dates McCain has thrown around.
I did hear him say he agrees with Obama's 16-month timetable and more specifically by 2010. Which when you do the math -16 months from January 2009 - will get you to 2010.
Not sure where you're getting your info from. Obviously not a reliable source.- tkstock, on 07/22/2008, -4/+8"Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki hasn't endorsed any specific plan for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, a government spokesman said, a day after a magazine report that he backed Barack Obama's proposal.
Al-Maliki supports a ``general vision'' of U.S. troop withdrawal from Iraq and has not backed a plan by Obama, the presumptive U.S. Democratic presidential candidate, for a 16- month withdrawal window, government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said in an e-mailed statement in Baghdad today."
"Bush and Maliki have agreed that a ``general time horizon'' is needed for the reduction of U.S. combat troops in Iraq, according to the White House. The two leaders, speaking July 18 by video conference, agreed that improving conditions in Iraq should permit setting goals for further drawdowns of U.S. forces, spokeswoman Dana Perino said in a statement that day."
From Politico.
As far as the continued troop presence (such as permanent bases), McCain supports the possibility, but he hasn't said he would go against the Iraqi wishes. You have to remember that Maliki has flipped on this issue in recent times to get more support for the upcoming elections.
The fact is, both Maliki and McCain want the troops out based on conditions on the ground. Maliki sees a shorter timetable based on continued improving conditions (thanks to the surge that Obama opposed). McCain is more realistic and plans for the worst case scenario instead of repeating past mistakes. - motivatedmama, on 07/22/2008, -7/+3Oh, my. You bought that? Then why no retraction from Maliki himself? He did mention Obama specifically by name. I can provide the link to the interview if you like.
The "time horizon" is widely acknowledged diplomatic fluff. It means they didn't agree on anything.
I watch the news but I read between the lines.
Ask yourself. Who has motive? What is the goal? What is "victory in Iraq" exactly? And why won't they tell us? Basically, who stands to gain by staying when 80% of Iraqi's want us gone? - tkstock, on 07/23/2008, -3/+8>The "time horizon" is widely acknowledged diplomatic fluff. It means they didn't agree on anything.
I agree.
>Ask yourself. Who has motive?
Maliki - he wants to get re-elected and needs to appear strong against the Americans.
>What is the goal?
I would like to think the goal is a stable Iraq.
>What is "victory in Iraq" exactly? And why won't they tell us?
I think they have told us - a victory is (from McCain's website)
"John McCain believes it is strategically and morally essential for the United States to support the Government of Iraq to become capable of governing itself and safeguarding its people.
...Al Qaeda in Iraq is defeated and before a competent, trained, and capable Iraqi security force is in place and operating effectively."
Ultimately, he says "When Iraqi forces can safeguard their own country, American troops can return home."
>Basically, who stands to gain by staying when 80% of Iraqi's want us gone?
I can tell you who stands to lose if we leave too soon: everyone. - motivatedmama, on 07/23/2008, -7/+2Well sir. I can see we are both deeply embedded. I can rebut your points but it's obviously pointless when you point to McCain's website as a reference. I think we should agree to disagree and I will get back to emailing volunteers for the next meeting. We have a president to elect! We're on the ground even here in Ky. and we are working hard for Obama! Good luck!
- phrenzy, on 07/23/2008, -6/+1LOL - I love this line:
"...Al Qaeda in Iraq is defeated and before a competent, trained, and capable Iraqi security force is in place and operating effectively."
Like Al Qaeda operatives are going to come out with a white flag, and meet on the deck of an aircraft carrier to sign documents of surrender.
This is a ***** ridiculously vague and malleable definition of "victory" - Hey, I saw some Al Qaeda guys walking around, guess we gotta stay.
How about going where Al Qaeda is able to mount full on ***** organized OFFENSIVES on US outposts?
FYI - Al Qaeda is a WORLD WIDE network of loosely affiliated terror groups (hint, Al Qaeda in Iraq was not Al Qaeda until they realized it was a better moniker than Jama'at al-Tawhid wal-Jihad - which was in hiding in the Kurdish controlled north (hiding from Saddam btw) - tkstock, on 07/23/2008, -0/+7phrenzy, when Al Qaeda isn't organized and capable of launching effective attacks in Iraq, that would be defeated. Granted, it's the most vague statement made, but the subjective measure does have meaning.
I guess that's part of the reason why McCain wants permanent bases there - so we can go get these guys when they pop their heads out.
While the current president doesn't appear to be making a move in Afghanistan, both presidential candidates have promised to send more troops there - Obama says 2 brigades, McCain says 3.
- tkstock, on 07/22/2008, -4/+8"Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki hasn't endorsed any specific plan for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, a government spokesman said, a day after a magazine report that he backed Barack Obama's proposal.
- scytherius, on 07/22/2008, -10/+4OMG I can't WAIT until there is a discussion of the issues at the debates. Every poll by EVERYONE shows that on the issues anywhere from 50-90% of America agrees with Obama. I have been an "issues" voter for 50 years. And solely on the issues I am voting for Obama. God i HOPE people vote on the issues. PLEASE vote on the issues
- tkstock, on 07/23/2008, -6/+9I'm voting on the issues, and I hope with all my soul Obama doesn't get elected. See my post above for my views on his policies and how catastrophic they might be for this already-weak economy.

And that, my friends, is why integrity is so important in the presidential elections. - smittie, on 07/24/2008, -0/+6I wonder if anyone will, on May 21, 2009, take note of the fact that we are still in Iraq?

Articles like this are really not much more than "OBAMA-PORN". - LukasSmith, on 07/23/2008, -11/+5AS if no Democrats ever join the Military.
Not.
This is weak. The democrats have made Obama into a Messiah figure that cannot be touched by Jay Leno or the New Yorker without someone crying foul or racism from the Obama camp. How do you feel knowing your candidate has no sense of humor and voted for FISA with telecom Immunity? Hahaha. Now that is funny. I bet these people said Gore and Kerry were sure bets to win. But they didn't. And the more I see of Obama the more I see Gore and Kerry. History does repeat itself. Can the Democratic party survive another historical defeat?- Drogoganor, on 07/23/2008, -1/+5Sounds more like you've got no sense of humour.
Get over yourself. - LukasSmith, on 07/23/2008, -5/+1Ok I will try to find the comedy in this article. 3,000 soldiers ran to greet Obama. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAH
happy?- Drogoganor, on 07/23/2008, -1/+3Apparently you were under the impression that anybody gives a ***** about your whining.
- LukasSmith, on 07/23/2008, -3/+1Is that the whine of a Democrat? No wonder you lost the white house two times even with the so called worst president in history in office.
- Drogoganor, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3I'm an Australian, and I hate you right-wing dick ticklers.
Go cry some more. - LukasSmith, on 07/23/2008, -3/+1You are Australian? And suddenly I realize why this conversation ends here. I really don't give a ***** what you think about US politics. You are not a citizen of this country. Bye bye Dundee.
- Drogoganor, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3"I really don't give a ***** what you think about US politics."
That's funny, because I don't give a ***** if you do or you don't. But I will keep stating my opinion. - bluezinc, on 07/23/2008, -1/+3What a baby, *****. What are you? 4? Are you going to throw your hotwheels across the room again?
Grow the ***** up.
- eddiecamaro, on 07/23/2008, -1/+2hopefully the election wont be rigged this time.

- Drogoganor, on 07/23/2008, -1/+5Sounds more like you've got no sense of humour.
- Niallgriff, on 07/23/2008, -7/+6Seems like a man who loves his country thanking the people who serve it mindlessly. Whats the problem? (Minus mindless service)
- overridemymind, on 07/23/2008, -1/+8Hey, how's it going?
See, I agree with you up until the "people who serve it mindlessly" part. You see, I happen to serve my country, and I, in point of fact, do not do so mindlessly. This is why I'm called "the voice of reason" in my unit. It's also why I openly disagree with certain... policies of the current administration. However, I digress from my original point.
The individuals who serve their nation are a very diverse group, indeed. I can't tell you that there are no mindless people who serve (God knows I've encountered my fair share of mindless automatons in my time) -- but I can honestly say that I've met some of the most highly intelligent individuals since I signed on. I'm good friends with a former lawyer, who no longer felt satisfied with practicing law -- I'm an IT administrator -- my boss was a biology teacher, I've another buddy who was a botanist (just to name a few). Would you call these people mindless?
For whatever reason we each joined, we all had a purpose for joining the military. I signed on directly after high school because my family could not afford to send me to college, and I did not want to charge up several thousand dollars in debt at age 18. Stupid move, right? Well, I don't regret my decision -- I've bettered my financial standing, I've met my wonderful, beautiful wife, and I've seen the world (I'm in Korea, not Iraq)
My point here is, once we sign up, we cannot disobey orders -- under penalty of imprisoment and/or separation from the Army via dishonorable discharge (good luck getting a decent job after that's happened) -- So if we disagree with the Iraq war or not, we have no choice but to deploy. Ergo, if you've got a problem with the war, griff, direct your anger and your slander not towards soldiers such as myself and my comrades -- instead, direct it at the individuals that sent us there. That's your constitutional right.
Cheers,
overridemymind- ASHole71, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Hear Hear OverRide!
- smittie, on 07/24/2008, -0/+3I too serve in the military. I served in many units over my career, with many different people. In my current unit, some like Mr. Obama, some like Mr. McCain, some wish there were other viable choices. The vast majority of these people are very smart individuals. We've got a few knuckle heads but on the whole, I'd say we have fewer than the population at large.
Like OverRide, I do not regret my decision to serve. Military service has given me the opportunity to help a lot of people. Military service has taught me lot about myself, about dealing with others and about thinking for myself on my feet in situations more difficult than most people ever encounter.
I don't really care much about their political views but my life depends on the guy to my right and the gal to my left so I'm not real tolerant of mindless people in the military. At least not in my unit.
I think making a blanket statement that serving in the military is a mindless thing to do is one of the most mindless things I've read on digg. And I've read some pretty mindless stuff here.
OverRide, Thanks for your service.
- overridemymind, on 07/23/2008, -1/+8Hey, how's it going?
- cha0t1c, on 07/23/2008, -2/+6Did anyone catch the MSNBC clip where McCain is about to speak and they show the Joker instead? Not very subtle. Can you say Joker vs the Dark Knight? They're going to hear about that one. LOL
- guythomas, on 07/23/2008, -1/+11I was at the embassy event shown in the video. I like Obama, but there was definitely not 3000 people there. Probably more like 200-300. It lasted for about 30 minutes, and a lot of people there were very excited to see him.
- ASHole71, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3No you can not say this and get away with it. The Kos would not lie on his site or let Digg users get lied too. never.
Oh and thanks for your service (whatever you were doing at the embassy)
- ASHole71, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3No you can not say this and get away with it. The Kos would not lie on his site or let Digg users get lied too. never.
- Vash3001, on 07/23/2008, -2/+3How many did NOT mob Obama?
- Cuchanu, on 07/23/2008, -1/+1Plenty but if you saw the footage of McCain's recent trip it's still very impressive.
- xNarrowSoulx, on 07/23/2008, -2/+1...What memo?
- majikmixx, on 07/23/2008, -1/+3Anyone else notice that Barack needs to update his Blackberry?
- phrenzy, on 07/23/2008, -4/+4And more salt in the wounds of the Republican neo-con machine. Welcome to the blowback *****-o's - You certainly deserve every bit of it!
- ASHole71, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Yawn, child get a life
- Halsfield, on 07/23/2008, -1/+1i want this to be true, and i think it probably was, but im always a little wary of troops on camera since bush was so manipulative of them in both his elections and presidencies (aka feeding people answers to questions he was going to ask, only stocking pavilions of troops with pro-bush people when they were going to do a press conference). i dont think barack would do that, but ive lost a lot of trust since bush so in the back of my mind its always a possibility now.
- Cuchanu, on 07/23/2008, -1/+1Great point but as of right now Obama wouldn't be able to stage that. Besides he doesn't need to.
- smittie, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1The troops standing in formation are there because someone told them to be. They are in formation because someone told them to be.

Ironic. - jpmulli, on 07/23/2008, -0/+0I have quite a few buddies who are marines currently in Iraq. They don't like Obama at all but they are going to vote for him becuase they know they will come home and won't have to return to a combat zone for at least four years. Can't say I blame them. If I was over there I might do the same, even though the thought sickens me.
- smittie, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1You and your buddies need to pay closer attention. Mr. Obama has clearly stated that he wants the US out of Iraq so that he can send more troops to Afghanistan and Pakistan. Marines are going to be on their standard seven in, seven out rotation for a long time to come, regardless of who wins in November.
- AngeloM3, on 07/23/2008, -1/+2Why do we have to "Notice how camera flashes pop throughout his remarks." ????
- keymanjim2, on 07/23/2008, -1/+1They were trying to blind obambi so he couldn't see his teleprompter.
- smittie, on 07/24/2008, -1/+1I watched the video and looked at the pictures. Troops in formation didn't have a choice. They were ordered to be there. What did strike me was the ropes to keep everyone back.
Contrast this with the photos of other politicians actually eating with the service members.
It didn't look all that warm and fuzzy to me. Of course, Daily Kos is nothing if not an unbiased source of news, right? - Labyrinth336, on 07/24/2008, -0/+1umm... where were the 3,000 soldiers... I only saw about 200...
