factcheck.org — McCain claims he "supported every investigation" into the government's role regarding the hurricane, when in fact he twice voted against an independent commission. The McCain campaign accused the Obama campaign of "tired negative attacks" for pointing out and documenting McCain’s gaffe.

Better examples of "tired attacks" or "negative campaigning" would be flag lapel pins, lame attempts at making the other guy look like a little kid that you're taking under your wing, telling one audience one thing and another audience another when you couldn't possibly satisfy both crowds when elected to office. You know, lying, dishonesty, unfounded crap.
- gsadamb, on 06/06/2008, -4/+37I have a feeling that much hilarity will ensue this election season.
Any time someone points out something negative or hypocritical that McCain does, he's going to accuse them of "attacking" him.

- sinrtb, on 06/07/2008, -0/+2I think the way they run their campaigns will be similar to how they run their presidency. McCain will view anything negative said by another country as an attack. - archiesteel, on 06/06/2008, -3/+4PolishLogic: he didn't flip-flop on the Second Amendment, nor did he on Iran. Flip-flop means taking diametrically opposed positions, not slightly readjusting one's opinion when confronted with good arguments and/or new information.
Oh, and calling people "dummy" when someone simply asks you to substantiate your allegations simply highlights your own intellectual deficiencies. Don't like it? Grow a thicker skin yourself. - PolishLogic, on 06/06/2008, -2/+3"Oh, and calling people "dummy" when someone simply asks you to substantiate your allegations simply highlights your own intellectual deficiencies. And his waterheaded response of "Yup, Dem Libruls ar flip flopprs, durrrr." was intellectual? You seem to mistake my "dummy" comment as being upset, when it was merely pointing out my opinion of the reply to my comment. Trust me, when it comes to thick skin, I'm covered in that department.
As for flip-flopping, I'd say that saying you support protecting the right to own guns in front of one crowd, while telling another that you support citywide or even statewide bans on owning guns in front of another crowd would be about as good of an example of "taking diametrically opposed positions" as needed here. - FairDinkumMate, on 06/06/2008, -3/+2Annd yet again PolishLogic you fail your own test of providing FACTS to support your point.
Please provide examples &/or sources of Obama "saying you support protecting the right to own guns in front of one crowd, while telling another that you support citywide or even statewide bans on owning guns in front of another". - PolishLogic, on 06/06/2008, -2/+2You give me no sources to show Obama being unflappable on guns, but you're demanding sources to support my claims. Fine.
Funny though, I was under the impression that Obama supporters read all the stories about Obama on Digg.
Here you go:
" Although Obama supports gun control, while campaigning in gun-friendly Idaho earlier this month, he said he does not intend to take away people's guns.
At his news conference, he voiced support for Washington D.C.'s ban on handguns, which is scheduled to be heard by the Supreme Court next month. "

Or you can simply Google "Obama and Second Amendment" then "Obama and DC gun ban". - akwash79, on 06/07/2008, -1/+1@PolishLogic
From the articles, it's obvious that he supports the federal right to arms but not opposed to the right of states or local communities to enact their own laws that trump federal laws.
The way I see it, the right of a state or local government to impose its own rules is a good thing. It returns power to the state which I have always supportive of. This isn't exactly a diametrically opposed position.
If a city has a large handgun death ratio, they should be able to enforce a ban.

- Barackalypse, on 06/06/2008, -10/+2While on the subject of not knowing where someone stands, how many of Obama's supporters know he voted to re-authorize the Patriot Act, continue Iraq War funding with no troop withdrawal date, and voted to build a border fence with Mexico? It isn't just McCain that doesn't know the record.
- Gerz1219, on 06/06/2008, -2/+8The re-authorization of the Patriot Act lessened its more severe civil liberties violations, so it was a good compromise until Bush left office. If Obama had voted to cut off funding for a war in progress, he'd be attacked left and right for not supporting the troops. What's wrong with a border fence?
- Barackalypse, on 06/06/2008, -2/+1As to the war, you're basically arguing that Obama sold out his beliefs for political reasons. As to the border fence, I like it a lot, most liberals I talk to don't. I'm just pointing out that a lot of the liberals I know hold positions that don't agree with Obama's voting record. It seems foolish to me to vote for someone based on how much you like his rhetoric and not based on how times his votes correspond to the issues you find important.
- mystilon, on 06/06/2008, -0/+4Obama has explained his philosophy on compromise before. In cases where he knows that he can't get exactly what he wants, he votes for that which brings progress -toward- it. That's not selling his principles, that's called working -toward- a goal. It's called being realistic, and favoring metered change over a futile bunker mentality that leaves us in a bitter and divisive stalemate. We need a heck of a lot more of that in our government instead of this childish stonewalling.

- zombies187, on 06/06/2008, -0/+3That's funny. But in all seriousness. What's the point of pointing out similarities between Obama and McCain? Do you think anyone will vote McCain because Obama is not planning an evacuation of Americans from Iraq? Or because Obama is not offering to put illeagal immigrants on welfare? People Who vote like THAT need reasons to vote McCain that McCain doesn't have. Or are you just hoping to disillusion the most marginal liberals into staying home?

McCain voted to support the war. He initially opposed Bush's pandering tax-cuts just after we went to war, and now supports them. He supported a pretty reasonable immigration law, and now opposes it. And now we know he voted against trying to get to the bottom of what happened during Katrina. Even though he was just in Louisiana a couple weeks ago vowing such a thing would never happen again.

What do we pay our ***** taxes for?- Barackalypse, on 06/06/2008, -5/+1The federal government's powers as listed in Article 1 Section 8 of the US Constitution do NOT include disaster relief (especially for cities built below sea level and for residents too stupid to leave given 48 hours notice of a category 5 hurricane heading right at them). You pay taxes for the government to protect your rights, you are not paying them to rebuild your home when a hurricane flattens it, nor do you pay it to provide you health care or fund your retirement. Sadly, most people are as deluded as you as to what their tax money is supposed to be used for.
- FairDinkumMate, on 06/06/2008, -0/+4Let's assume you're right.
Basically what you're saying is that you'd rather vote for a party that IGNORES the constitution when it suits it to blatantly breach citizens rights than one that uses the power of the Federal Government to help people out after a crisis even though the constitution doesn't say it has to.
I guess that sums up why we have different opinions you self-centred ignoramus! - life036, on 06/07/2008, -0/+2Good point, barackalypse. People could be imprisoned in a Gulag camp for crimes such as unexcused absences from work, petty theft, or anti-government jokes. - stinkymonkey, on 06/06/2008, -7/+10
Lets all be serious. The last thing this country needs is an old guy who can't remember things (and/or just lies) to get our country out of this mess. I mean, how can anyone support him? He's a buffoon and doesn't even hide that fact.
My present to myself this summer is watching Keith and John after the first debate. That is going to be comedy gold. - ender7074, on 06/06/2008, -12/+5How about a fact check on Obama. His uncle liberated Auschwitz right? How about his grandmother being afraid of black people. Thats not how he described it in his craptacular book (yes I read it). How about all the other gaffes he makes on a daily basis. Guess its ok when the Messiah misspeaks right?
- Skywise, on 06/06/2008, -2/+4Blaspheemer!
The Messiah does not misspeak... we are just too dim to appreciate his understanding! - gambyt13, on 06/06/2008, -0/+3Big difference between gaffe and outright disgusting sleaze.
- FairDinkumMate, on 06/06/2008, -0/+2Typical crap ender. Why?
You carry on about Auschwitz because it's much easier to focus on this than on the POINT of Obama's statement(which differs in NO way whether it was Auschwitz or Ohrdruf(Buchenwald)) which was that his great unclue saw the horrors of the holecaust & how this affected him on his return.
If the Republicans began to talk about ISSUES without lying, obfuscating or misdirecting then maybe you could begin to rebuild. The majority of American people have had enough. You can wait until November to figure this out or start now - your choice.
So how about it ender? Are you up to discussing the FACT that many veterans return from war after being exposed to horrors and suffer greatly from this & right now receive less than satisfactory treatment? Would you like to talk about the ways the country could help these veterans that have proudly defended their country? Or is it more important to you that Obama's great uncle saw horrors at Ohrdruf & not Auschwitz?- ender7074, on 06/09/2008, -1/+0Where in the name of your god Obama do you get 99.9% of your post out of mine. Never once did I make any mention of our men and women in uniform or the treatment they receive. I spoke only of Obama and his inability to speak with any kind of intelligence as well as the fact that he is a gaff-a-day candidate. Guess what, I had relatives in WW2, Korea, Vietnam, and ones that are currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan right now. Does that somehow give me some kind of special knowledge of what they say? No and neither does it give Obama any special knowledge. I would wager that I have more experience than he has having been to Auschwitz (yes, the one in Poland) than just having heard some story from a relaitve.
You also speak of talking about issues. When has Obama brought up any kind of issue? He prances around yelling HOPE and CHANGE!!! but no substance behind it.
Oh and as far as people "having had enough" give me a ***** break. Maybe you whiny ass libs who cant get anyone elected have "had enough" but the rest of us are just fine thanks. And your stupid little choice of deciding to support Obama now or in November, guess what. I'll never support him, never respect him, and will certainly never vote for him. Lay off the kool-aid.

- mikeyeah, on 06/06/2008, -4/+10I used to have respect for McCain back around 2000. I have since realized what McCain is all about: doing and saying whatever he has to for political gain. Anyone who votes for McCain is voting for a 3rd term of Bush. No thanks, I think I'll give Obama a chance to put this country back on track.
- xenoblue, on 06/06/2008, -8/+2obama is perfect, that's why you never hear anything bad about him, duh
- fredmv, on 06/07/2008, -0/+1You're ***** retarded, that's why you're getting dugg down, duh.
- YodaJones, on 06/06/2008, -4/+9McCain, you will not be elected president.
- ZenMojo, on 06/06/2008, -4/+9Reminds me of how Barack Obama went after McCain's policies and John McCain insulted Obama's age but Sean Hannity was shouting, "Ooooh, I thought Barack Obama wanted to run a different kind of campaign! But here he is with these low, negative attacks against a WAR HERO! That's not new politics, that's old politics!" To which Republican strategist Mary Matalin replied, "McCain hit back pretty hard himself."
If they are relying on Barack Obama pretending that John McCain didn't exist between the years 2000 and 2008, these people are going to implode. Landslide victory. - petebot, on 06/06/2008, -3/+4I thought I would be happy when Hillary dropped out, but man, I'm already sick of McCain v. Obama. November can't come fast enough!
- nydwarf, on 06/06/2008, -0/+1Did he vote against those particular amendments or were they part of a larger bill that got shot down?
- Mara5, on 06/06/2008, -2/+0It doesn't matter who you vote for, the objective is the same on both sides. Little by little they will take away everyone's freedom, take away the Constitutional Amendment. Brace yourselves and prepare to be enslaved. Color, race, age, sex, none of it will mean anything because we will all be slaves to the world leaders. Middle class will totally disappear and there will be two class systems, the Haves and the Have Nots.
- richmomz, on 06/07/2008, -0/+5McCain: "Aaah! The light of public scrutiny! It burns! IT BURNS!!"
- techweenie, on 06/07/2008, -0/+7McCain is the obvious heir to the Reagan --> Dubya --> McCain theme: some people will always choose an amiable dunce over any alternative that threatens their self esteem by demonstrating knowledge. In that context, inconsistency is perfectly acceptable.
- fredmv, on 06/07/2008, -0/+1Know what? I still believe in McCain. And I'll explain why: we need a commander-in-chief that understands the importance of getting bottled hot water to dehydrated babies in a timely manner. You don't see Obama talking about that.
- Muckraker462, on 09/12/2008, -0/+0One of the many tragedies of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina three years ago was the fact that insurance companies used the event to systematically deny claims, leaving victims further in desperate straits. That shouldn’t happen following any natural disaster, and even though the immediate storm effects did not cause as much damage as predicted, there are sure to be plenty of claims for flood damages throughout the Midwest and along Gustav’s path. If you or someone you know has been denied an insurance claim related to Gustav: http://www.gustav-insurance-claim-denials.com/ that would be a site you should visit.
