Pennsylvania, while certainly having tightened somewhat over the course of the past two weeks, appears to be holding at a margin of about +8 for Obama, with very few remaining undecideds. Obama also appears almost certain to capture Iowa and New Mexico, which were won by Al Gore in 2000. - mrfoos2, on 11/04/2008, -75/+2I heard they are running drug tests before you can place your vote and anyone testing positive will be handcuffed behind the vote curtain. Go at your own risk. You were warned.

Intoxication from a controlled substance is no more illegal than intoxication from alcohol.
However if you are acting intoxicated you could be tested and charged with Public Intoxication.
However this is not going on at the polls. - bruce86, on 11/04/2008, -1/+25I hear there are handing out free Popeyes fried chickens coupons and KFC giftcards at all the polling places. So make sure you go vote.

- rowjimmy, on 11/05/2008, -1/+1@nexusone - "Intoxication from a controlled substance is no more illegal than intoxication from alcohol"
actually, in many states and countries that is completely false - possession by intoxication is the official term for it. *****, i once almost got deported and banned from norway because of possession by intoxication (quite a while after the fact - i was no longer intoxicated, but they claimed that if i tested positive on a drug test that would prove that at one point in time i was guilty of possession by intoxication, which technically would have been a valid and legal reason to deport & ban me; thankfully i had proof that i had been out of the country within the time that the test would have reported positive and happily admitted to doing tons of drugs outside of norway that would invalidate the test) - Diganta, on 11/05/2008, -0/+3@mrfoos2 what you are doing is spreading false information and voter intimidation. Outstanding tickets and your so called drug tests done at the polling places are rumors spread by people like you to discourage voting.
I thought when conservatives like you talked about going into Iraq, the words spreading freedom and democracy were the words used back then. Yet in our own election you taint that spirit of democracy and freedom by intimidating your fellow citizens with false and inaccurate information. The hypocrisy of your actions has not gone unnoticed.
Having the flag as your profile image means nothing when you don't support the founding principles of patriotism in this country and standing up for democracy. You sir are a poser, wrapping yourself up in the American flag pretending that you want freedom and democracy, in reality you just want your conservative party to win at any cost. Damn fairness and clean elections.
- ayindisakg, on 11/04/2008, -1/+19I'm sorry but that is completely absurd. Do you know that to administer a marijuana drug scan test it costs roughly $400????
- Sugarbayee, on 11/04/2008, -33/+0Goodness you all are crazy! IF Nobama gets elected this country will pay for years to come! Do you really know anything about the man you are voting for? Do you know his record? Do you even care? He will tax us all to death!
Take a lesson from the following:
Why I'm Voting Democrat
I'm voting Democrat because --English has no place being the official
language in
America.
I'm voting Democrat because --I'd rather pay $4 for a gallon of gas
than
allow drilling for oil off the coasts of America.
I'm voting Democrat because-- I think the government will do a better job
of
spending my money than I
could.
I'm voting Democrat --because when we pull out of Afghanistan and Iraq, I
know the Islamic terrorists will stop trying to
kill us because they'll think we're a good and decent country.
I'm voting Democrat because-- I believe people who can't tell us if
it
will
rain in two or three days, can now tell us the
polar ice caps will disappear in ten years if I don't start riding a
bicycle, build a windmill or inflate my tires to proper levels.
I'm voting Democrat because --it's all right to kill millions of babies
as
long as we keep violent, convicted murderers on death row
alive.
I'm voting Democrat because --I believe businesses in America should not be
allowed to make profits.
Businesses should just break even and give the rest to the government so
politicians and bureaucrats
can redistribute the money the way they think it should be redistributed.
I'm voting Democrat because --I believe guns, and not the people misusing
them, are the cause of crimes and killings.
I'm
voting Democrat because-- when someone with a weapon threatens my
family
or me, I know the government can
respond faster through a call to 911 than I can with a gun in my
hand.
I'm voting Democrat because-- oil companies' 5% profit on a gallon of
gas
are obscene, but government taxes of 18%
on the same gallon of gas are just fine.
I'm voting Democrat because --I believe three or four elitist liberals
should rewrite the
Constitution every few months
to suit some fringe element that could never get their agenda past voters.
I'm voting Democrat because--- illegal aliens are not criminals, are not
sucking up resources through government aid, hospital services, education,
or social services, but are just people
trying to make a better life by coming to America
illegally.
We can't blame
them for that, can we?

The Village Idiot

- OUberLord, on 11/04/2008, -0/+6Nice copy and paste job, way to express your opinion in your own words.
"I'm voting Democrat because --English has no place being the official language in America."
I guess I just really don't care either way on this point.
"I'm voting Democrat because --I'd rather pay $4 for a gallon of gas than allow drilling for oil off the coasts of America."
A) Gas is nearly below $2 a gallon now, way to keep up with the times, and B) raping our environmentally protected areas rather than even attempting to pursue technology which was proven to work two decades ago is silly.
"I'm voting Democrat --because when we pull out of Afghanistan and Iraq, I know the Islamic terrorists will stop trying to kill us because they'll think we're a good and decent country."
Considering the only reason there is anti-U.S. unrest in the region is *because* of our involvement in the Middle East, I can't see why it wouldn't be a step forward.
"I'm voting Democrat because-- I believe people who can't tell us if it will rain in two or three days, can now tell us the polar ice caps will disappear in ten years if I don't start riding a bicycle, build a windmill or inflate my tires to proper levels."
Are you seriously this dense? Seriously? It's a simple equation, Properly Inflated Tires = More Efficient Operation = Less Gas Burned Overall = Less Pollutants. It only sounds stupid if you lack the mental capacity to understand the underlying point. Also, predicting weather patterns is different than predicting ice cap erosion based on decades of photographic evidence and other historical data.
"I'm voting Democrat because --it's all right to kill millions of babies as long as we keep violent, convicted murderers on death row alive."
I maintain it should be a woman's right to choose to have an abortion or not. It's not like it is an easy decision or simple / cheap process to begin with.
"I'm voting Democrat because --I believe businesses in America should not be allowed to make profits.
Businesses should just break even and give the rest to the government so politicians and bureaucrats
can redistribute the money the way they think it should be redistributed."
Way to overgeneralize.
"I'm voting Democrat because --I believe guns, and not the people misusing them, are the cause of crimes and killings."
Cite what you are basing this off of.
"I'm voting Democrat because-- when someone with a weapon threatens my
family or me, I know the government can respond faster through a call to 911 than I can with a gun in my hand."
What, you can't defend your home unless you have an automatic weapon? What ever happened to using a traditional pistol or shotgun?
"I'm voting Democrat because-- oil companies' 5% profit on a gallon of gas are obscene, but government taxes of 18% on the same gallon of gas are just fine."
This has been par the course for the last decade, and isn't likely to change regardless of the administration.
"I'm voting Democrat because --I believe three or four elitist liberals should rewrite the Constitution every few months to suit some fringe element that could never get their agenda past voters."
Can you really make this point with a straight face, in light of the fact that the current administration has been completely raping the Constitution and what it stands for for years?
"I'm voting Democrat because--- illegal aliens are not criminals, are not sucking up resources through government aid, hospital services, education, or social services, but are just people trying to make a better life by coming to America illegally."
Again, cite your point.

Obama 08!- Frayed_Knot, on 11/04/2008, -35/+3It's more likely that I'll get killed in a car accident on the way to the polls than my vote mattering in MA.
Even in the extremely unlikely scenario where MA's electoral votes are decided by a margin of one vote, it's unlikely that those 7 electoral votes will matter. And even if they did, recent history shows that the matter will be decided in the courts.
Even if I lived in Florida for the 2000 election, the margin was 517 votes. My vote wouldn't have mattered.

- pazimzadeh, on 11/04/2008, -0/+2You think you're special with thoughts like that? If you and some friends with similar opinions get together and talk to some people you can make a difference. Don't be stupid.
- batkins, on 11/04/2008, -1/+1Frayed_Knot; I live in massachusetts too and while I know that my vote won't necessarily account for that much I made sure that I voted for two reasons: 1) if everyone had your ***** ass attitude then nobody would vote, (or get anything done for that matter) and 2) There are other important issues on our ballot today.
Senators, house representatives, and the propositions
2 very important propositions (1) voting on whether to eliminate the state income tax and 2) voting whether to decriminalize marijuana)
Among other things. Don't be lazy just vote. Vote or die!
Also Massachusetts has 12 electoral votes, not 7! I bet you're the type of retard that thinks there's only 49 states as well (amazingly enough I've encountered not 1 but 3 individuals in the last year that were all over the age of 18 and believed this to be true!)

The ***** they shovel around every 4 years *pfff* doesn't mean a ***** thing. Secondly, I believe if you vote, you have no right to complain. People like to twist that around – they say, 'If you don't vote, you have no right to complain', but where's the logic in that? If you vote and you elect dishonest, incompetent people into office who screw everything up, you are responsible for what they have done. You caused the problem; you voted them in; you have no right to complain. I, on the other hand, who did not vote, who in fact did not even leave the house on election day, am in no way responsible for what these people have done and have every right to complain about the mess you created that I had nothing to do with.” George Carlin

- JKGuy16, on 11/04/2008, -3/+7I love George Carlin, I really do. His logic is usually always flawless. However, if you don't feel either of the mainstream candidates are competent (like i do), vote 3rd party. My candidate a year ago was Ron Paul. He endorses Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party.
I did my research on all the candidates and Baldwin has the majority of the same beliefs as myself. Obviously I don't believe in everything he does, but that's true for everyone.
If more people would open their eyes and break away from the brain washing taking place that says you have to vote Donkey or Elephant, we might get some REAL change in this country instead of the clear direction of socialism we are currently going to get.

I don't quite have my finger on it yet, but the fundamentalist thing is huge. At least as strong as in Southern Missouri. People here tell me "we're not political" and they are not kidding. No one in Tulsa talks about politics at all. I have seen 2 bumper stickers (both for Obama) and before today a total of 2 yard signs. Today the yard signs cropped up. We counted 20 of them on a short drive to North Tulsa. I don't understand what "we're not political means." What it does is keep people ignorant of the issues, but I have to be careful about being the new guy trying to push for change. Most of my efforts have focused on Missouri. We have gone back and canvassed a few times. - BorsKaegel, on 11/04/2008, -0/+3Alabama has both Texas and Oklahoma beat.

Oklahoma, Utah and Idaho are the three reddest states in terms of this Presidential election. Utah has edged out Oklahoma, but just with a drop of blue. Alabama certainly close. I don't think Texas will turn blue this election either, but its coming in another couple election cycles. Take away GWB's home state advantage, and polling suggests less than a 15 point lead for republicans. That can be overturned one day.
Plus.. Austin, Dallas & San Antonio all have Democratic majorities and Obama is polling +6 in Houston, at least our votes can make a huge difference in local races.
The biggest victory though is the fact that Democrats may very well take back the majority in the Texas house tonight! - Batfishy, on 11/04/2008, -0/+5I'm a Texan voting for Obama. I wasn't born in Texas though. Do I still count?

Uh... Captain Information... they're BOTH Christians.
I apologize in advance for my state.- JenniferInMO, on 11/04/2008, -0/+5Me too! I want so badly for Oklahoma to be a part of this historic day, and my husband and I are in our little way, but some places will take a little longer. At least we did our little part by working it for Obama here and voting so that the margin will be closer than without us. Shooter (love your name by the way -- great movie), I am glad you live in Utah. It takes a few people like you and me to plant the seeds of hope and change.
- etherreal, on 11/04/2008, -0/+5I live in Idaho too. While it is indeed the reddest state in the nation, I really think Idaho could one day swing Libertarian. We may be red, but we are small government conservatives here. After all, Ron Paul took nearly 25% in the primary here (not that the Idaho MisStatesman would care to report that).
I voted Bob Barr and Kent Marmon BTW.
Sadly, I also voted for Bill Sali, but I really did not want to. - breadfred, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1@etherreal: just curious, why did you vote for someone who you do not really want to vote for?
- etherreal, on 11/04/2008, -0/+2Because that would have meant voting for Walt Minnick....which is even worse.
- FreddieD, on 11/04/2008, -0/+8Don't forget there are big reasons to vote other than the president. Even if your vote feels like a throwaway because you're in a deep red or deep blue state, you still have your US congressman, possibly a US senator, possibly a governor and your state senators and congressmen.
Issues like education are absolutely huge at the local level. - Beakerz, on 11/04/2008, -0/+7I'm in OK as well, and my change of address got screwed so i get to drive 3 hours from OKC to Bartlesville to vote. Oh well its worth it.
- JenniferInMO, on 11/04/2008, -0/+5You Rock! Sounds like a real pain, but stories like yours and the people who flew home from India to cast their vote all show how important it is. We are all part of this peaceful revolution for change. Those 2 tanks of gas and the time spent remind us of how important our votes are.
- Rotzooi, on 11/04/2008, -0/+4Thanks for voting!
- ddrussianinja, on 11/04/2008, -0/+0You said NH twice...
- JenniferInMO, on 11/04/2008, -0/+4I meant NC. I was getting too wound up!
- johnnyboy239, on 11/04/2008, -0/+2Thank you, many people have had good posts today, yours is the best i've seen
- JenniferInMO, on 11/04/2008, -0/+3Thanks! Have you voted yet? If not, get away from the computer and vote!
It was so wonderful to vote but it went quickly and easily for us. We got right in and the ballot was easy, short and it was a paper ballot that was optically scanned (not one of those horrid machines we hear about). My husband and I left the polls physically shaking because we were prepared for anything and it turned out too easy. - johnnyboy239, on 11/05/2008, -0/+1Sure did, Voted at 9:00 A.M, My experience sounds much the same as yours. Paper Ballot, Easy to Scan, and only about a 45 minute wait. Currently Waiting on Franken/Coleman who are within 300 Votes
- JenniferInMO, on 11/04/2008, -0/+3Thanks! Have you voted yet? If not, get away from the computer and vote!
- podforpeace, on 11/04/2008, -0/+3Here in OK. Yesseree this Okie transplant from CA has her Obama Biden signs out and a few others in my 'mc' neighborhood. Seen a few McCain Palin signs (and you know where they are). Voted Friday the 31st, it took a little over an hour. Went quite smoothly with a lot of help. Will be driving around with my new magnet to check if my neighborhood voted, most said it wasn't worth it "it'll stay they same". No way!! It is time to change and see how many Repubs we will vote out. Am so proud to know OK diggers are here too. Hooray!
- JenniferInMO, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1You don't happen to live in Ponca City do you?
- izolutionz, on 11/04/2008, -0/+2I'm on my way.. and to all those mcinsane fans trying to discourage people to vote... suck it!
- podforpeace, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1Am here is Muskogee. The horns are blowing. People are out and happy. Lots of activity in the neighborhood that normally stays quiet and out of the way. People are piling in cars and going the church to vote (the religious right is very powerful here).
- JenniferInMO, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1@podforpeace. I have a friend in Ponca City who moved here a year ago from CA. She has learned to keep her politics to herself. We are in Broken Arrow and we have to walk on egg shells, but we push whenever we can.
- lisaawesome, on 11/05/2008, -0/+2At a major intersection in Edmond some folks were holding Obama signs reminding everyone to vote. It was great.
- JenniferInMO, on 11/05/2008, -0/+1@lisaawesome: That is wonderful! I do have one nice story:
When the Obama office opened here in Tulsa a few months ago my husband and I thought we should go. We expected a couple of idealistic college kids with a relish tray and a big empty office. We thought we should show our support.
The hours were from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. We showed around 1:00 p.m. and they had just passed 1,500 people on the sign-in sheet! It was a wonderful, diverse packed office. People of all ages, some drove in from outside of town, there were people of all ethnic backgrounds, but there were probably more white suburban types than anything. People were busy signing up for shifts, buying signs (although I don't know where they went. I have seen few signs from both signs). It was a beautiful experience.
- Jaliyl, on 11/04/2008, -0/+3MN here. I voted for Franken. I hope Coleman is tried and jailed for the ***** of bribes he took.
- JenniferInMO, on 11/04/2008, -0/+2I love Al Franken. I hope he wins. He will really be a breath of fresh air to the Senate. He is a smart guy and he is in it for all the reasons. He already has money and fame. He isn't a power hungry guy. He just wants to make a difference.
- first2di3, on 11/04/2008, -0/+4Another Oklahoman here,
Me and my wife both voted today, both for Obama.
Oklahoma has been a red state for too many years, its time our tampon got changed!- JenniferInMO, on 11/04/2008, -0/+3I would have opted for a different metaphor, but I certainly agree with the sentiment.
- blueRAP, on 11/05/2008, -0/+2Doesn't Inhofe give off that same angry old man vibe McCain does? Sheesh his commercials were scary
- JenniferInMO, on 11/05/2008, -0/+1He is awful. He pulled a cheezy Willie Horton commercial here, but I guessed it worked. We are stuck with him for another 6 years. The only good thing about it is that he has been emasculated by this election. He is no longer the power broker he thought he was. Same goes for Mitch McConnell.
- DeadFox1, on 11/04/2008, -35/+14bear with me for a second.. could it be possible that this website has been setup by the repugs? They may be trying to pull the wool over our eyes. Who is is the domain registered to? i am high, so that also makes me PARANOID right now.
- toetagger, on 11/04/2008, -1/+24http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FiveThirtyEight
When you're high, Wikipedia is your friend. Nate Silver was on Keith Olberman Monday. - 80hd, on 11/04/2008, -1/+10I'm somewhat paranoid too after the last two elections.
But this website checks out pretty well. Let's just hope that Limbaugh's predictions about polls are exactly wrong.
I really love that the news won't shutup about the race tightening even though every poll shows the opposite :)- kidathinnes, on 11/04/2008, -1/+6Its all about the ratings. The more people think it going to be close, the more people stay glued to their tvs.
- pintomp3, on 11/04/2008, -2/+10didn't limbaugh claim he could never support mccain? oh right, he's a hypocritical fat drug addict.
- dave122, on 11/04/2008, -8/+4didn't biden say obama wasn't experienced enough to be president? He's such a hypocritical long winded *****. See what I did there?
- Unrealevil, on 11/04/2008, -1/+4Yes, Dave, everybody saw what you did. Nobody thinks it's clever but you.
- dave122, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1it's funny how people digg things down simply because they don't like it rather than it's truth, digg humors me.
- Sithlrd, on 11/04/2008, -1/+4Just because you're paranoid, doesnt mean the are not out to get you.
- falstaff, on 11/04/2008, -0/+2The guy's a Democrat (seems like all the good baseball analysts are), so I don't agree with him on a fair number of issues, but he's a statistician first, and a really smart guy.
As with any righty today, I think there are a few reasons to distrust the specifics of the polls, but I think the overall message is clear. Obama has this one wrapped up. - macattak420, on 11/05/2008, -0/+1dude it sucks that u get paranoid u honestly should not be trying to worry about ***** just chill and relax. - LiquidIse, on 11/04/2008, -4/+3I know this is partially off topic, but Gregoire? Really?
I voted for Obama but Rossi is such a better candidate- BadseedJR, on 11/04/2008, -4/+5I agree completely. Gregoire is worthless. Don't vote for someone just because of party affiliation. That is completely asinine.
- PReitz, on 11/04/2008, -2/+5Yes, really. Remember us...the east side of the state? When my neighborhood was burning to the ground Gregoire flew over here, so I guess she remembers us.
- thirdeyeopen, on 11/04/2008, -3/+4I voted for Rossi. I also voted for Obama. I pretty much went down the line and voted against the incumbent.
- ratbear, on 11/04/2008, -1/+5Rossi is anti-public transit and doesn't care about King county. That alone should make you vote Gregoire, no matter how distasteful you find it.
- tdogg241, on 11/04/2008, -1/+4Gregoire isn't perfect, but I think she's been a perfectly competent governor. Rossi, on the other hand, has *ridiculous* ideas for transportation, hates a woman's right to choose and their right to birth control, would veto any legislation legalizing gay marriage, and basically spent his entire campaign smearing Gregoire instead of talking about why he's the better candidate. Add to that the fact that I think he's a ***** snake and you get a pretty good idea of who I voted for. How someone could vote for both Obama and Rossi is beyond me.
If I lived in the 8th CD I'd definitely vote for Burner as well. Oh well, it fills me with glee each time I get to vote for Jim McDermott. - acex23, on 11/04/2008, -2/+1I'm stoked to see I wasn't the only one who thinks Greggy is incompetent.
- CrushThemTorg, on 11/04/2008, -4/+2If Gregoire loses to Dino Rossi, she'll probably just eat him out of rage.
- Johnagain, on 11/04/2008, -3/+7We can't afford gregoire...
the greg budget has us lined up to be 3 billion in debt in 3 years
the greg administration got the less expensive monrail canceled (that votes approved 3 times) and got us the billions overbudget light rail, which nobody voted for. Explain that!?
the greg administration wants higher taxes instead of more efficient government
If Rossi does nothing other than balance or budget, I will be happy, because greg can't seem to do it.- tdogg241, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1Gregoire had nothing to do with monorail getting killed. It was put up to a vote for the FIFTH time and was finally voted down after passing four previous times. Yes, it would have been less expensive (though the project was greatly underfunded, hence the fifth vote on the measure), but it was only going to serve Seattle, while light rail is going to be a regional transportation system. I wasn't happy that the monorail was killed, but what we're going to get is so much better.
BTW, since you don't seem to have all your facts in order, Prop. 1 is to increase funding for light rail to get it to Northgate, Federal Way, Bellevue, and Redmond. That's not mentioning the initial votes back in the mid/late-90s to increase sales tax to start funding the project. If that's not voting on it, I don't know what is.
Meanwhile, Rossi somehow thinks he can replace the 520 bridge with an 8-lane alternative that will cost less than WSDOT's preferred 6-lane alternative, which defies common sense. He wants to replace the Viaduct with a cut-and-cover tunnel, which, while ideal, is vastly more expensive than the other alternatives. That money's gotta come from somewhere, and he plans on taking it from the state general fund which pays for insignificant things like education and healthcare. He is astoundingly anti-transit and wants to open up HOV lanes during the day to single-occupancy vehicles. His transportation plan is ridiculous, reckless, and has been blasted by a number of WSDOT and transportation officials.
Add to that his disregard for women's rights, the fact that he'd veto legislation legalizing gay marriage, and my general distaste for the man, and you have a pretty good idea who I voted for. As for the coming deficit, I'm much more confident in Gregoire's ability to handle it appropriately. - tdogg241, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1Also, for the record, the Central Link of light rail is set to open on time and under budget by over $100m.
http://seattletransitblog.com/2008/05/13/link-unde ...
(The actual amount was closer to $128m I believe.)

- zoom1928, on 11/04/2008, -2/+1Wow, a positive reply here about a Microsoft cultist. You need to do more research on Darcy Burner's horrible background before posting to a site like this that typically has more informed people. She was one of the people responsible for the .NET scam.

- brcane, on 11/04/2008, -2/+63This is by far my favorite poll compilation site online, and I thought that even before I found out that the founder is a stat junkie for baseball prospectus. Even though the sites author are proactive in disclosing their donkey favoring tendencies, as a republican I can say that the scientific neutrality is the at the leading edge of their analysis. You gotta love the irony of a baseball statistics methodology being seemingly more advanced then comparable political commentary.
- MxM111, on 11/04/2008, -12/+5"as a republican I can say that the scientific neutrality is the at the leading edge of their analysis."
Do you think that being republican somehow gives you more weight in detecting scientific neutrality? If anything it is the republican candidates who rose hands as in "I do not believe in evolution". It is republicans who chant "Drill baby! Drill!" and think that global warming is not real.
Not all of republican, of course, but in such statements as you made above, being republican is more like a minus. GOP has to do lots of rational thinking to get their reputation back.- JenniferInMO, on 11/04/2008, -0/+7I believe brcane was complimenting the site in spite of the fact that it shows his candidate losing big time. Pointing out that he is a Republican was intended to show that his comments are not biased, i.e. that even a person with an opposing view appreciates the site.
- rivsgivsmeshivs, on 11/04/2008, -0/+3@MxM11 - To me, it sounded like brcane was saying that even though he (or she) is a repub, and the authors of the site are dems, they're impressed by the neutrality of the site. So, they're not seeing any political bias in the stats.
- tdogg241, on 11/04/2008, -0/+3He was pointing out that he doesn't see any bias in the site's methodology despite the fact that the site's authors are democrats. I have to say I agree with him.

- JenniferInMO, on 11/04/2008, -0/+11there
- KaseyCarbone, on 11/04/2008, -0/+2If Obama loses, all future polls will be overseen by Karl Rove, and people who answer the questions wrong will be sent to a mandatory corporate-run reeducating facility for a minimal fee of everything they own.
- Gimli, on 11/05/2008, -1/+1Polls are worthless and should be taken with a grain of salt. They are a leading indication on how the vote is PROBABLY going to go, not on how the vote is ACTUALLY going to go. I remember about 10 or 12 years ago a person was running for the Mayor of Livonia (Dugan was her name I think) and was outspending and out campaigning the other candidate, but end up losing the election. Even though it was just an election for Mayor ever since then I look at the polls with some skepticism and the way this screwy electoral college works it's really anyone's election to win or lose. I personally voted for McCain and have let it been known to everyone who I voted for, but I wonder how many people are saying they're voting for Obama but are secretly voting for McCain?
- crimsonalucard, on 11/04/2008, -2/+9If obama loses it means their was cheating going on.

- thenekkidtruth, on 11/04/2008, -4/+65And there's more . . . Nate Silver at FiveThirtyEight is not just any aggegator. He takes ALL combined polls, filters them through his own matrix constructed from a mainframe full of facts, THEN runs 10,000 modelling scenarios 3 times every day based on all that information.
Which makes Nate the most accurate analyst with the best track record to ever comment on an election. His models are actually skewed quite conservatively - if he says 1.9%, it's probably more likely to be .03%.- 80hd, on 11/04/2008, -0/+31.03% is a tight race. If you watch TV news.

- otakushark, on 11/04/2008, -0/+5There's no guarantee people will vote the way they said they would in the polls, and a few percent turnout one way or the other could make the difference. Go vote now, don't trust any polls!

- thenekkidtruth, on 11/04/2008, -13/+25Yo, yo, yo . . . that would be ".03%" as in "McCain has a .03% chance of becoming president of the United States while Barack Obama has a 99.97% chance", and yes, Nate factors in approx 5 million voters who are cheated out of their constitutional rights by Republican dirty tricks.
It is NOT a "horserace". It IS a landslide. And it IS not only a mandate, but the most overwhelming one in decades.- falstaff, on 11/04/2008, -1/+13So you're saying there's a chance....
- billybillyboy, on 11/04/2008, -1/+7You might want to actually check some of the previous elections before making the statement "most overwhelming in decades."
'96 Clinton: 379 electoral votes
'92 Clinton: 370
'88 Bush: 426
'84 Reagan: 525
This is not a horserace, but historically, I doubt it will be labeled a landslide, other than by over excited talking heads....- Schmapdi, on 11/04/2008, -1/+4While I agree that Obama has to have a really good night for it to be a "landslide" - all but one of the races you listed features an incumbent president (or VP). Those tend to be not so close. The first Clinton race was the one with Perot in there, although I'm not sure what that'd do to the numbers really -but it's not a "normal" race either.
- billybillyboy, on 11/04/2008, -0/+1Good point, although in the last such scenario (2004), GWB only got 286. I was only trying to frame what I see as the likely outcome (Obama with somewhere between 300-330, at most 55% of the pop vote) in its historical context. Those numbers are by no means a landslide in the classical sense. Also, it is more "normal" for and incumbent to be in the race.

- FredFredrickson, on 11/04/2008, -5/+39Obama, nor any of his supporters, have ever called him the messiah. Only petty, jealous conservatives have called him that, because in their small minds, they can't see how we find hope in Obama. Maybe someday they will, but for many, it's hopeless.
- Jhonka, on 11/04/2008, -5/+12I almost ignored the comment, ALMOST did a republican make a statement without throwing in an insult or lie... So close. I was like "Wow, a conservative viewpoint that isnt offen- wait..."
- rjejr, on 11/04/2008, -11/+3Gotta admit, I've called him the Messiah. Well not "the messiah" actually, just Khan. Not Ghengis, Noonian Singh i.e. Ricardo Montalban, he of the war to wipeout mankind, i.e. the white race. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
- orlandogeek, on 11/04/2008, -2/+9I fail to see how an average middle-class person as AnotherDiggGuy probably is can identify with the current ideology that has hijacked the Republican party. These people don't give a ***** about the average person's welfare, yet they still get rabid support from normal everyday Americans. I don't understand it.
People need to wake up. When the Neo-Conservatives call you "joe sixpack", "joe the plumber", "average joe", etc. they are not identifying with the average person, they are insulting you. They perceive you as low class uneducated people who will buy whatever false information they want you to if they repeat it enough.
Wake up. Refuse to be lied to. Hear through the smear.

I live in a relatively small town in Middle Tennessee and it pains me to see people like that - the kind of men that wish life was colored in camouflage and have a constant layer of mud on their oversized pickup trucks. While I've met plenty of genuinely intelligent people that act like this - those intelligent people are the scarce minority within that group and the others are just plain ignorant to reality.

Regardless of your political preference, it is undeniable that more democrats and liberals are more energized over Obama than republicans and conservatives are about McCain. So, a spike in new voters (particularly in a state with many african americans) is a definite indicator in a spike in voting for Obama. - yacks, on 11/04/2008, -1/+10More voters normally equate to more votes to the Democrat.. Hey baby, what'cha know good
I'm just gettin' back, but you knew I would
War is hell, when will it end,
When will people start gettin' together again
Are things really gettin' better,
like the newspaper said
What else is new my friend, besides what I read
Can't find no work, can't find no job my friend
Money is tighter than it's ever been
Say man, I just don't understand
What's going on across this land
Ah what's happening brother,
Oh ya, what's happening my man
Are they still gettin' down where
we used to go and dance
Will our ball club win the pennant,
do you think they have a chance
And tell me friend, how in the world have you been.
Tell me what's out and I want to know what's in.
What's the deal man, what's happening
What's happening brother
Ah what's happening brother
What's happening my man
Ah what's happening brother
What's been shaken up and down the line

We were much worse off after Bush won '00.

Also: There were no presidential elections in half those years. - SparklingWiggle, on 11/04/2008, -4/+10"We were much better off after Clinton won '92."
No, we were in the same position as we were under Bush #1 for about 2 years. The economy was in the toilet, etc, and none of the single party legislation did much to alter it. It was only after the unilateral control of the Democrats in congress and the executive was broken up, that we started to crank up the good times.
"We were much worse off after Bush won '00."
No we were worse off after 9/11. Remember, Bush also has the record for highest approval ever. Then single party control of government reared it's ugly head again.
Both branches being run by a single party is rarely a recipe for good. It will continue to be the case here, until the Republicans can get back control of one of the two branches and actually create the checks and balances that only exist in theory, not practice, with a party monopoly.
A strong third party is the best thing that can ever happen to this country. Somebody needs to keep the both the DNC and GOP in check as they move further and further to their polar opposites.

I'm assuming you said this because McCain is a veteran and former POW.
Just because Obama never served in the military doesn't automatically make him a potentially bad leader. And McCain may not be a great leader because he is a veteran.
Leadership is the act of aligning the people around you to reach a common goal that benefits all. - rowjimmy, on 11/05/2008, -0/+2a write in is not the same as a 3rd party vote. in many states a write in is THROWN AWAY (as in not counted); sure, you could claim that a 3rd party vote doesn't count, but it certainly is counted. check your state laws (although if you're reading this by now, it's probably too late) before writing in anybody...
