Fox Anchor Calls Obamas’ Fist Pound a "Terrorist Fist Jab"
thinkprogress.org — Last week, when Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) secured enough delegates to clinch the Democratic nomination, he and his wife Michelle exchanged a fist pound greeting before he gave his speech. Teasing an upcoming “body language expert” segment on Friday, Fox News host E.D. Hill referred to the exchange as a possible “terrorist fist jab“

- NoDrama, on 06/09/2008, -13/+213I guess FOX is so busy turning information into entertainment that they don't notice how many people in the USA do that - even on TV. Nice try at a smear if it wasn't so blatantly out of step with our culture.
- digitalhair, on 06/09/2008, -4/+11to E.D. Hill's surprise, a "terrorist fist jab" would more accurately be described as a punch that lands anywhere on her body that has an absurd accumulation of cosmetic makeup.
- rz8472, on 06/10/2008, -2/+13I actually watched "America's Pulse" (the show where the remark was made) for a while back when it was just called "The Pulse", entranced by the cool-looking CGI transitions that FOX is so great at doing. Then I realized that their coverage on the runup to the Iraq War was propaganda and one of their specials on "the environment" was filled with mis representative footage of marine mammals attacking people parsed in with scary music as if protecting the penguins or walruses were akin to caving into the terrorists.
BBC NEWS > FOX opinion journalism* any day.
*Even this is generous; it's essentially propaganda. - chrissku, on 06/10/2008, -1/+7http://phillybits.blogspot.com/2008/06/photo-bush- ...
- fluxion, on 06/10/2008, -0/+9you are mistaken my friend, that was clearly the Commie Knuckle Crush

- diggrnumber1, on 06/10/2008, -1/+13what's even funnier is that foxnews has a target audience of around age 50 (it's on their website). obama is about that age, and he seems to have an idea what is going on, but foxnews is still clueless.
- seanfink, on 06/10/2008, -1/+6incredible... i'm so glad people are this ignorant, if not for FOX network, McCain wouldn't stand a chance. Thanks FOX, you give people reason to wonder... ***** ignorant morons...
- zydeco, on 06/10/2008, -1/+14We better start investigating the NBA next...before it's too late!
- elipabst, on 06/10/2008, -0/+8Holy jebus, it's an entire Al Qaeda cell!
- kyyled, on 06/10/2008, -0/+6Think about it - most NBA players are black. Just like...Obama.
Oh...my...God...
- uhhNo, on 06/10/2008, -0/+3You guys all got trolled by Fox. Fortunately, I stopped reading after Fox, which was, again fortunately, the first word in the post.
- tyywebb, on 06/10/2008, -0/+1The time said 1:51 CT which basically means normal people are at work and this show is geared towards stay at home parents and retired folk who probably associate a pound with gangs or terrorist fist jabbing.
- TecHeavy, on 06/09/2008, -13/+165These people are sick.
- raskali, on 06/10/2008, -1/+7Sick indeed. Does Fox ever think of the terrorists? Now they'll have to come up with a whole new secret hand gesture.
- Jackson0909, on 06/10/2008, -8/+0So is MSNBC.
- tyywebb, on 06/10/2008, -0/+2A terrorist, Fist, Jab??!??!!?
- purple, on 06/10/2008, -2/+2You people are really stupid aren't you? She was listing ways people might interpret the gesture. She wasn't saying that it WAS a "terrorist fist jab."
Calm down and stop acting like it's the end of the world. Practice your interpretation skills while you're at it too.- Memitim, on 06/10/2008, -0/+2Absolutely! Or they could secretly be the Wonder Twins! Or that could be the hidden signal to start the Second American Revolution! Or maybe you and your apologist ilk are just ***** retards.

- DebsW, on 06/09/2008, -10/+108Can you believe the press would be so desperate?
- coffeebaby, on 06/09/2008, -6/+41you can hardly call fox news "the press". it isn't real journalism.
- kublerross, on 06/10/2008, -0/+8the "press" has nothing to do with this
but yes, i can believe the multinational corporations behind TV are very afraid and showing their desperation. theyve enjoyed a license to rape the world under Bush, and they sense its coming to an end. - Technohamster, on 06/10/2008, -2/+1Actually yes I can. Isn't their job to be attention whores for ratings?
- SoulDrift404, on 06/10/2008, -2/+3You can't paint the entirety of the press with the sins of Fox News. They're in a class by themselves.
- Black6x, on 06/10/2008, -0/+2You seem surprised.
- orelses, on 06/09/2008, -9/+40Its a jesture of sport, they are basketball fans. Thats all.
- alexforcefive, on 06/10/2008, -0/+3Yeah, and the lead-in to the news story was equally meaningless. It's a basic public speaking skill to use a 3 point list, and she (or her writer) couldn't think of a third term so she threw in something random. She didn't mean anything by it.
Don't get me wrong, politically I'm on the far left of the spectrum - but this kind of reactionary propaganda non-story just makes us all look bad. - glibpaxman, on 06/10/2008, -0/+4its not even racially related anymore. my (white) uncle is a pastor of a small, very conservative church in rural oregon. he uses the fist pump instead of a handshake to greet anyone under the age of 30.
- ZenMojo, on 06/10/2008, -1/+3Not really. People have been giving pounds since the 70's and 80's. I'm convinced the mainstream is about 20 years behind black culture on just about everything.
- dlm85, on 06/09/2008, -9/+202The worst part of this is the viewers of Fox News will think it is a terrorist fist jab. I had a guy tell me that he would not vote for Obama because of his name. I looked at him and said, "That is one of the most ignorant things I have ever heard."
- actorboy, on 06/09/2008, -1/+45Yep. Even though they used it as a teased, Fox planted the seed of capability with their viewers: "Is Obama really a terrorist?"
- kevman459, on 06/10/2008, -0/+25It's like what I saw on the Daily Show once, Fox News can put a question mark after any statement and remove all accountability.
"Is the Obama family part of an underground network of vampires living amongst us?"
- kevman459, on 06/10/2008, -0/+25It's like what I saw on the Daily Show once, Fox News can put a question mark after any statement and remove all accountability.
- justz00t, on 06/10/2008, -8/+30Man, I just overheard some people talking the other day and I heard them saying that they said something along the lines that they would vote for Obama because of the color of his skin. A few months ago I heard some older women saying they would vote for Hillary because they want to see a women president. What is this world coming too?!? why would anyone place there vote for such ignorant reasons?
- Stavrosian, on 06/10/2008, -0/+46That's the trouble with democracy. You can give the people the vote, but nobody said the people were going to stop being stupid.
- TheGuruStud, on 06/10/2008, -3/+3Need a literacy test for voting. That would stop all of this BS haha.
- tyywebb, on 06/10/2008, -0/+2Godammit, who thought it was a good idea to let the proletariat vote?
- jsmith39, on 06/10/2008, -0/+2@tyywebb
I see what you're saying but at the same time, it was pretty much presumed that the voters would educate themselves.
Everyone knows that voting is their right, and most people seem to have forgotten that voting is also their duty.
- m1th, on 06/10/2008, -0/+6For an insight into what the world is coming to, I highly recommend watching the excellent documentary "A Century of Self" (should be up on googlevideo/youtube). It answers many of your questions. To give you a brief sample, it gives insight into how people of the so called democratic societies are encouraged into voting for their desires.

- malakite33, on 06/10/2008, -0/+8Buddah help me, honestly my BRAIN actually was in pain, not jokingly while watching this video. It sent me over the edge for a bit, just pounding my face on my keyboard. Fox News is not news, it is not even fiction. It is dangerous propaganda. PERIOD.

- actorboy, on 06/09/2008, -1/+45Yep. Even though they used it as a teased, Fox planted the seed of capability with their viewers: "Is Obama really a terrorist?"

- Stavrosian, on 06/10/2008, -0/+13Kudos to Colbert for nailing it so well, I say. After watching him for a while, every time I see Fox News (not very often, obviously) it just plays as a joke to me.

- wynja, on 06/10/2008, -0/+2I'm an idiot for calling for accountability from media or are you the idiot for truly believing that Obama's gesture to his wife was a "terrorist jab"? Think about that long and hard.
- incredibilistic, on 06/10/2008, -0/+4If anything we should boycott the advertisers that promote their products on Fox News channel. It worked for The Simpsons way back in the day. Some lady wrote to Coke or Pepsi or some big advertiser that aired ads during The Simpsons show and she was able to get them to pull their ads from the show.
If we can let Coke, Proctor & Gamble, Nabisco and other companies know that we won't buy their products if they advertise on Fox maybe that will weed out the guy pulling the strings on stories like this.- Jackson0909, on 06/10/2008, -4/+0That crap doesn't work. Get a clue and learn something about advertising.
- RationalXubrnce, on 06/10/2008, -0/+3 I find the media outlets useful in that I watch who they promote. When they are behind someone that person goes on my radar and when they hate someone I take a closer look at what that person is all about.

It also give them a chance to distort and refute a direct quote from a primary source (a reliable source by journalistic standards) by inserting totally baseless interpretations. Spin zone at work.

- NoStoppingUs, on 06/10/2008, -48/+5uhhh...are you guys ***** serious? you truly are sheep, arent you? every single time a fox news story comes up, you guys go absolutely *****, repeating the same ***** over and over again until you feel you've successfully managed to add your two worthless cents to the mix. i'd explain the concept behind the story, but it would clearly go over your heads. you guys really are worried about obomba losing, arent you? "OH NOZ FOX NEWS ISNT IN THE TANK FOR OBOMBA!! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"
it's amusing and pathetic all at the same time. you guys must be incapable of thinking for yourselves. GOBOMBA!!!!
=)- LZeppelinJ0, on 06/10/2008, -3/+23Cocaine is a hell of a drug
- HouseofEl, on 06/10/2008, -3/+13You mean the concept that they wanted to connect it to terrorism? The only thing that's amusing to me is how bad you must fail at life. We're not sheep, we just understand that Fox news isn't news. It's tabloid journalism. If you can't recognize that, then have fun in your bubble.
- NoStoppingUs, on 06/10/2008, -1/+2don't hate em cause you aint em. =)
- rahamm, on 06/10/2008, -4/+18Hahahaha this guy is the defending the terrorist fist bump. Congrats you are the dumbest ***** on the internets today.
- R0am3r, on 06/10/2008, -15/+1Internets? Wow - you are so original. Get back on the short bus, douchebag.
- rahamm, on 06/10/2008, -0/+9And second place goes too......
- malex, on 06/10/2008, -0/+2Do you want to defend the TFJ theory? Because I'd love to hear someone try and honestly rationalize this.
But if all you can do to defend FOX's complete lack of journalistic integrity is call people douchebag, you should stop what you're doing, log off the internet, and ask yourself what is you actually believe in.

All I could imagine was fisting. It wasn't pleasant. - kinseyincanada, on 06/10/2008, -22/+4ok i hate Fox news just the same amount as everyone but this isnt really that bad, they did not make it out to look like he was a terrorist because he used a fist bump, the expert or whatever said it just was a personal way of communicating with his wife.
- rahamm, on 06/10/2008, -1/+8Shut up the point of this ***** is to link the word terrorist with Obama. Next it will be terrorist economic policy, terrorist hug if his kids and so on. You really have no idea about labeling do you?
- Netrilix, on 06/10/2008, -4/+1Bringing the word terrorist into it was definitely a terrible call, but other than that I found it to be a decent segment. I fist bump with people all the time, but I don't see anyone in the 40+ crowd doing it.

You'll all scream riot etc. but will just bend over and take it like everyone else for the last 50 years......
- DLtheRMX, on 06/10/2008, -2/+4I guess you're just too old to vote for Obama

- DLtheRMX, on 06/10/2008, -2/+0haha good point. i hate politics
- walkea1, on 06/10/2008, -0/+3Yeah because by not voting and not being politically active, you're definitely "rocking the boat." You might not notice because overall the world still sucks but there have been good things that have been accomplished over the past century. And they've been accomplished because someone has worked for them, not because everyone started simultaneously crying because they don't like some politicians.

Because he actually went to a madrassa. - catcher6250, on 06/10/2008, -2/+4When he was ten. Then he left.

- Ne007, on 06/10/2008, -0/+1When you make negative connotations about someone based on their origins or language then you are considered a racist.
These sorts of ploys that Rush and Fox use only work on idiots.

- zoom1928, on 06/10/2008, -15/+5Wow, and Fox completely missed the real problem with Obama hitting his wife with his closed fist. It's sad that punching a woman is now considered not a big deal.

- ambrosious, on 06/10/2008, -0/+3almost...
- platypusREX, on 06/10/2008, -2/+20Listen FOX, I do that all the time when I am terrorizing at work and drinking with buddies. It means like "All Right!" and I just ran a jihad training camp. I was in charge of the monkey bars. Yes, that is me in that CIA 1974 terrorist monkey bar training camp video that they still use as if it was yesterday. I haven't even aged a bit. So I guess Fox got Obama and me as well. Damn you Fox! Uh la la la la la!
- WaxenPith, on 06/10/2008, -0/+1Allah Huackbar my brother!
- Wronghead, on 06/10/2008, -3/+8Terrorist chest bump.
- Ne007, on 06/10/2008, -5/+18The sad thing is is that people actually believe this sort of *****. I can't wait to hear this ***** at work tomorrow.
- CrazyZ, on 06/10/2008, -15/+1I have a question. I know it's a little off topic but in this article: http://money.cnn.com/2008/06/09/news/economy/obama ... Obama states that ""Such relief can't wait until the next president takes office. ... That's why I've called for another round of fiscal stimulus, an immediate $50 billion to help those who've been hit hardest by this economic downturn," Obama told a crowd in Raleigh, N.C.
He said that he supports the expansion and extension of unemployment benefits, as well as a second round of tax rebate checks."
So everyone has slammed the current Bush admin for ineffectual stimulus checks etc. but Obama is getting a pass on his recommendations etc.? He is starting to seem more and more just like every other politician out there eh? Also, why should those "hit hardest" get government aid when those of us who actually prepare for the worst, keep our debt low, and keep our ducks in a row go unassisted?
WTF!?- JSavage37, on 06/10/2008, -4/+3Perhaps he's talking about giving the money to poor people, which is a common democratic ideal. Perhaps it's because he's going to try and offset the tax cuts for the rich. Or perhaps, it's because he's actually just because his middle name is Hussein.
- CrazyZ, on 06/10/2008, -3/+3Either way... Bush + Stimulus Checks = BAD!!!! Obama + Stimulus Checks = The messiah has spoken!!! ?
btw, why the ***** do the poor need hand outs? I grew up poor, I'm not anymore and the government had nothing to do with my situation.- catcher6250, on 06/10/2008, -0/+1Well, CrazyZ, if you don't vote for Obama, would you rather vote for McCain?
- CrazyZ, on 06/10/2008, -0/+2Nope,
Don't like any of them, will probably write in Mickey Mouse.
- artofficial, on 06/10/2008, -1/+1or maybe he'll heal the sick and give the blind sight!. Oh what a ray of hope Obama is!!

- JSavage37, on 06/10/2008, -5/+33Holy jumping ***** *****.
Firstly, I would conjecture that more than half of America has done that before. Apparently 50% of us are terrorists (democrats). Secondly, how ***** PATHETIC is it that we are micro-analyzing these god damned candidates body movements rather than talking about what they ***** stand for? I'll bet you more people now know about the Obama fist-jab rather than his actual stance on the mortgage crisis. - DLtheRMX, on 06/10/2008, -4/+11Fox is just jealous that they can't be that cool.
- Frostman3D, on 06/10/2008, -3/+11Obama is a muslim agent infiltrating our government. He won't rest till we're all muslims. /sarcasm.
