His supporters never waivered, but the opposition believed the whole time that it was winning. By the end of the election, right before the voting, in 2000 and 2004 - The media started asserting that Bush was "the clear winner."
Either way, I think the point I am trying to make is that polls are *****. I've never been polled. There's no other explanation.
http://www.slate.com/id/2198397/- sheeplescareme, on 09/08/2008, -1/+2racism? are you freaking kidding me? more people are voting for third-party candidates this year out of disgust with the dems and repubs (thank ford). also, a big help to his winning primaries was taking 80-95% of the a-a vote in many areas-that isn't racist? how many a-a's have gone on the telly and said if you're white and don't vote for bo, you're racist? a half-dozen? more? wasn't it an a-a bo supporter who wrote that if obama didn't win there would be race riots?! i'm white and not voting for him because his views are incredibly different than mine. i've never voted dem, i didn't vote for gore or kerry because i'm a libertarian. am i racist for not changing my political views?! and yes, i've looked at the polls, they're terribly misleading. it's not a black/white issue for the majority of voters. they've been conned into a state of fear and are either looking at mccain, who they perceive as more experienced, or a real change with third-party.

- peacepower, on 09/08/2008, -1/+2There is another reason Obama might lose: Diebold. In a race this close, a few votes here and there can make the difference. Even without Diebold, I wouldn't be surprised to see McCain win it, especially if Bush cooks up a September/October Surprise for Iran or Georgia and voter can be convinced that McCain has more command experience.
