    And now, we have the truly astonishing situation where the Democrat leadership torpedoed Hillary's shot at the presidency. Obama passed Hillary over for vice president, and Democrats are trying every trick in the book to get Sarah Palin off the Republican ticket. It is clear that Democrats don't want a woman anywhere NEAR the White House. And Democrat women are just willing to sit back and let their men decide when the time is right for a woman to sit in the oval office -- a day, judging from their history, that will probably never come.

    Female children identify with female role models whether they are Pink Power Rangers or a Political Candidates, they are too young to understand policies. We encourage our daughters that they can be anything they want to be if they work hard enough, but then you obviously don't have children, since you have no clue, just has you have no clue that we don't care what you have to say. I realize this might be be a shock to you but here in America, we have something called free speech, unlike Canada when you can be put in jail for writing a book that offends muslims. Thank god idiots like you cant vote in OUR presidential elections.

skmckinny, on 10/05/2008, -12/+36While I am very glad that Palin is on the ticket, what is more important is that McCain actually has a better approach to economy (yep.. I have 7 yrs of econ and an MBA and a deep understanding of macro econ)... but even more importantly, McCain and Palin govern by the voice of majority. i.e., they will not push their personal view and will respect democracy. They are BOTH moderates and they are BOTH reformers. This we really really need.

SAVE FREEDOM. SAVE DEMOCRACY.

I think we will have a huge upset come November 4th (at least in relation to what the polls tell you right now)!

On the one hand, they can clearly see a strong, independent woman who could legitimately become the first Vice-President - the fruition of one of their stated goals - to see society’s women treated equally to men.

On the other hand, their organization gave up that goal long ago in favor of Leftism in all but pretense. But to declare that openly renders the stated reason for their movement irrelevant.

So many fem-bots are straining their credibility right now by railing against Sarah Palin.

Kudos to this woman, who seems to have discovered that the only logical course of action is intellectual honesty.

Tammy Bruce was head of that same chapter of NOW before she saw the hypocrisy of the movement. She is utterly despised by the fem-bots.
simple001, on 10/05/2008, -9/+9As a bipartisan, I love this presidential election. It's a culture war. Makes for good television. Also hearing people say your an idiot if you like McCain/Palin and your an idiot if you like Obama/Biden is great.

At least this woman says in this speech she doesn't agree with Palin on the issues but she is a good person and as a feminist will vote for her because she will fight for equal rights for women. Gotta respect the honesty.

"Sen. John McCain's choice of Alaska governor Sarah Palin as his running mate is a cynical effort to appeal to disappointed Hillary Clinton voters and get them to vote, ultimately, against their own self-interest.

Gov. Palin may be the second woman vice-presidential candidate on a major party ticket, but she is not the right woman. Sadly, she is a woman who opposes women's rights, just like John McCain.

The fact that Palin is a mother of five who has a 4-month-old baby, a woman who is juggling work and family responsibilities, will speak to many women. But will Palin speak FOR women? Based on her record and her stated positions, the answer is clearly No.

In a gubernatorial debate, Palin stated emphatically that her opposition to abortion was so great, so total, that even if her teenage daughter was impregnated by a rapist, she would "choose life" -- meaning apparently that she would not permit her daughter to have an abortion.

Palin also had to withdraw her appointment of a top public safety commissioner who had been reprimanded for sexual harassment, although Palin had been warned about his background through letters by the sexual harassment complainant.

What McCain does not understand is that women supported Hillary Clinton not just because she was a woman, but because she was a champion on their issues. They will surely not find Sarah Palin to be an advocate for women.

Sen. Joe Biden is the VP candidate who appeals to women, with his authorship and championing of landmark domestic violence legislation, support for pay equity, and advocacy for women around the world.

Finally, as the chair of NOW's Political Action Committee, I am frequently asked whether NOW supports women candidates just because they are women. This gives me an opportunity to once again answer that question with an emphatic 'No.' We recognize the importance of having women's rights supporters at every level but, like Sarah Palin, not every woman supports women's rights."
