- NoDrama, on 03/03/2008, -1/+20Farrakhan, Steinem, whatever. If somebody on the staff of a campaign makes a stupid comment the candidate has an issue. If a citizen expresses her own opinions? That's free speech.
- buhbyebot, on 03/03/2008, -3/+4Actually you are incorrect, as perception is everything, and since Hillary has aligned herself with the feminist movement in the past, and Gloria Steinem is "the" feminist elite representative, she bears the problem of a perceived shared opinion by way of association right or wrong as it may seem. Obama has no alignment with Farrakhan, and has denounced the support and therefore shares no responsibility for anything related to him.
- triplehelix, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1well i hope someone presses her to reject her support like she did to obama.
- buhbyebot, on 03/03/2008, -2/+2Whoopsie.
- Jebbica, on 03/03/2008, -9/+3Great story, as always, Nathan!
- princessrachel, on 03/03/2008, -2/+3Wow. I can see making this argument for SOME things but being a prisoner of war? Not so much. Steinem has never been one to be reined in though...
- Member148, on 03/04/2008, -1/+5What's the worry. The only time you hear from Gloria Steinem is during an election. The rest of the year she's virtually mute. She and her organization have very little clout any more, because as a man I can't think of any thing that a woman can't do as well as a man, once she sets their mind to do so. In fact I have seen a 65 year old woman doing the same job as a 18 year old man and keeping up.
- gypsi, on 03/04/2008, -1/+4she's kind of like al sharpton - probably well meaning but they're only a pain in everyone's ass these days
- wastedfish, on 03/04/2008, -0/+2I'm almost positive they aren't as good at construction
- BigManOnCampus, on 03/04/2008, -0/+2Or professional basketball.
- neognostic, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1Writing your name in the snow while peeing.
- triplehelix, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1don't see any feminists pushing to put women on the front lines though do you.
- theuniversal, on 03/04/2008, -2/+14I wonder if Clinton will denounce her support or reject her support?
- slimjim85, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1best to be safe and both denounce 'and' reject it! lol...
- ChimpFlix, on 03/04/2008, -2/+4Who cares what a supporter said. The assumption of guilt by association is the refuge of slime merchants.
- triplehelix, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1clinton herself cares, because of the hooplah she made about obama support from less then savory quarters.
- TheTaoOfBill, on 03/04/2008, -0/+11I've heard so many people mocking McCain for his POW status. I don't think anyone who mocks McCain for that reason has any idea what he went through. He was nearly starved to death. He was less than 100 pounds for awhile and when he wasn't sick and laying in a hospital bed he was tossed into solitary confinement for a years only brought out so he could be tortured for information.
He received several injuries that he never fully healed from. Like shoulder injuries that make it so he can't lift his arms. This is why McCain has such a stiff stance. He really can't move his arms very high at all.
You can disagree with McCain's policy. I do. But don't for one second trivialize the vast amount of sacrifice he gave to this nation. He deserves any honor this country gives him. Including president. I wouldn't like his policies but he certainly is one person in Washington who deserves the seat. And if he wins I will treat him with respect.- wild, on 03/04/2008, -1/+9Agreed. McCain is a hero.
I would rather see Obama in the WH than him, but I wouldn't for a second think he didn't understand what our country stood for or that he didn't know sacrifice. - dunderballer, on 03/04/2008, -3/+4Even though you wouldn't like his policies you think he would deserve the seat for presidency? The presidency isn't a chairty position to award as a consolation for having it tough. Just as we shouldn't have been in Vietnam to put soldiers like McCain at risk, we shouldn't be in Iraq doing the same. By supporting the war in Iraq, McCain is now putting soldiers at the same unwarranted risk he was put in.
- oldhick, on 03/04/2008, -1/+4Nobody think its a qualification which is why her comments are so ridiculous. McCain certainly isn't using it as one of his credentials.
- TheTaoOfBill, on 03/04/2008, -1/+5I didn't say I'd vote for him. I just said if he does win he's given more than enough to deserve it and I believe he will be a better president than what we've had for the past 8 years. He would at least have the experience necessary to win in Iraq and he would at least not be one to give in to party or special interest pressures as he hasn't shown any evidence to have done so thus far.
- BigManOnCampus, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1"Winning" unequivocally in Iraq was only possible before we invaded. Once we invaded with no good plan for the after-party, we were doomed to humiliation at the very least.
- BigManOnCampus, on 03/04/2008, -0/+2You sound like the typical American who thinks that democracy is only about electing a president, and all the other positions are meaningless. The fact of the matter is the chief executive is only one position among 4 federal offices that each American gets a direct hand in electing, and congress has a much worse approval rating.
When you consider that Presidents traditionally don't do much other than enforcement and representation internationally, congress is revealed as much more important.
- wild, on 03/04/2008, -1/+9Agreed. McCain is a hero.
- bumpshack, on 03/04/2008, -3/+6Gloria needs to be locked up and tortured for five years.
- hadamin, on 03/04/2008, -0/+6Isn't Hillary *for* McCain in '08?
- diggstown, on 03/04/2008, -1/+4I don't particularly care for Clinton, but Steinem's comments != Clinton's.
But I wonder... if years as a POW don't serve as qualification for the presidency, how do years acting as a wife and without any actual political position while your husband is Governor or President? 35 years my ass. - jmhyer51, on 03/04/2008, -0/+4I'm not a McCain fan, but.... WHAT. A. BITCH.
- ElRaval, on 03/04/2008, -0/+2JK! JK!
- Pherdnut, on 03/04/2008, -0/+2It's not a direct reflection on Hillary's views but at the same time I can't help but fault her campaign for attracting all the dumb feminists while Obama got all the smart ones.
- romistrub, on 03/04/2008, -0/+2Very indirect... yet I see your point. Maybe it's attentional bias, but I've only met *one* intelligent human that's for Hillary. Ever.
- dunderballer, on 03/04/2008, -0/+2On the issue of feminism, I challenge someone to name a woman (who isn't hot) that is highly regarded by the digg community. There are plenty of favored men: Obama, Paul, Jobs, Olberman, Colbert, Stewart, etc and plenty of of women who diggers love to hate: Clinton, Rosie O'Donnell, pretty much any over weight woman, Culter. Okay, well the last one really is a bitch but I think you get my point.
- diggstown, on 03/04/2008, -0/+2You didn't actually just put Paul in your list, did you?
- diggstown, on 03/04/2008, -0/+2Ah crap... you really did.
- plainOldFool, on 03/04/2008, -1/+0Although not spoken about too much, Pelosi is held in fairly high regard. And considering how much the huffingtonpost is dugg, I guess Ariana *could* be added as respeced.
- anotherguy54321, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1Pelosi? How many years ago was that?
- anotherguy54321, on 03/04/2008, -0/+2Dunderballer, we LOVE your mom and she is definitely not hot.
- romistrub, on 03/04/2008, -1/+2"Hillary Clinton will need to apologize for this remark "
Wait, what? Seriously? Isn't apologizing for someone else's stupidity against some kind of logical rules? Fight fair, people. - reuscel, on 03/04/2008, -0/+3Gloria is probably lashing out due to her anger at being irrelevant in a post-feminist society. I respect what Gloria Steinem stands for, but she's as necesarry as a VCR head cleaner these days.
- voteforblank, on 03/04/2008, -0/+2If she was a POW she'd be on the end of a coat hanger so often then would have been able to hanger her from a coat rack! POW women were only good for one thing. Face reality BI'ATCH!
- TecK415, on 03/04/2008, -1/+1I dislike Hillary just as much as the next sane person. But why the f*ck would she have to apologize for some random crazy feminist who said something idiotic? This article is bogus. It's only becoming popular because the fool who posted it has nearly 800 "friends" on here who mindlessly Digg up each others submissions.
- jmpeagle, on 03/04/2008, -0/+1little known fact, she is Christian Bale's stepmom (married his father David Bale in 2000), which is ironic considering she was very vocal about criticism of the book American Psycho which her now step-son played the lead part in the movie adaption
- Jebbica, on 03/05/2008, -0/+1Another informative, objective article, Nathan! Great job!
