Hillary supporters thinking Sarah Palin
townhall.com — The Democratic discontent along with McCain ’s pick of Governor Sarah Palin as his Vice Presidential candidate provide a unique opportunity for women to unite behind one candidate and vote as a block in a way that has not been expected since women won the right to vote.

McCain clearly sees the power of women voters in this election but has just as clearly failed to support any of the issues that they care about. His choice for vice president only reinforces that failure.
This is about the most insulting decision John McCain could have made, if he somehow thinks this is the way he can lure Hillary Clinton supporters to vote for him. Do they think that, just because their candidate has ovaries, women will vote for McCain?
It takes about two nanoseconds to examine Sarah Palin's record to see that she doesn't share an iota of the core values that motivate Hillary supporters. This is like when my mother sees an interesting article in the newspaper about a musician. She cuts it out and sends it to me with a post-it note saying, "Since you're a musician, I thought this would interest you."
McCain is saying with this decision: Look! She's a woman, just like you! So vote for me.
Hillary supporters were looking for him to choose a moderate, centrist Republican who isn't a hothead on abortion rights. Instead, he chose a hothead from the far conservative side of the party that is a hothead on abortion rights, and has worked against equal pay for equal work (Alaska ranks dead last in the disparity between men and women).
Not only will McCain lose centrist Democrats with this decision, he's probably going to lose the Republican center as well. - alapoet, on 08/29/2008, -8/+9Women are going to vote as a block, all right -- against McCain, against Sarah Palin, and against the policy that both of them have of opposing equal pay for equal work, regardless of gender.
- JenniferInMO, on 08/30/2008, -7/+5To add to Thomas, yes there are many of us who would love to see a woman as VP or Pres. It would be nice to have someone to point to when you tell your daughters "you can do anything" if you put your mind to it, but Palin is so far away from any of the many various issues that are important to women.
She is ideologically opposed to abortion even in the case of incest and rape, she is opposed to any effort to promote equal pay for equal work, she participated in a beauty pageant which is offensive to the more left women. She has 5 children, one of whom is a special needs child who is less than 6 months old. If you think grandma is going to think well of her as a mother when she is vying for a position that will likely keep her traveling much of the time you are sorely mistaken. She is a far right evangelical Christian which may bode well for some, but certainly not enough people. Frankly, a lot of Hillary supporters are insulted by this transparent attempt to sway them to the dark side.
The image of this young former beauty queen standing next to old fogey and his young wife for whom he left his ailing first wife is not just dirty-old-man-icky, it's down right creepy- 4wheel, on 08/30/2008, -1/+4Bottom line. We don't want a Marxist
- BuddyOne, on 08/30/2008, -2/+5Libs are a tortured lot. They believe the crap they're told and worse, they believe the crap they write. In a tizzy now because a successful Republican woman can't be THE WOMAN.
- notanidiot, on 08/31/2008, -0/+1It shouldn't be about being "the woman" it should be about being the right person for the job. And Palin falls very very short of qualification. You made the point against your own point, in that the motivation behind her nomination is that she is a woman, and thats just sick politics, and dangerous for our nation.
- notanidiot, on 08/31/2008, -0/+1Mother to Daughter: "See honey, you can do anything, if you're lucky enough to have a man choose to use you for the fact that you are a woman to gain strategical advantage! Oh, and yeah, if you put your mind to it, I guess."
