Huffington - Sarah Palin: A Trojan Moose
huffingtonpost.com — The point is that Palin, and the circus she's brought to town, are simply a bountiful collection of small lies deliberately designed to distract the country from one big truth: the havoc that George Bush and the Republican Party have wrought, and that John McCain is committed to continuing.

- VCubed, on 09/08/2008, -14/+74Arianna's right, back to the issues, and hit them hard, directly, leave them breathless. The only things I want to hear about Palin from now on are her status as Queen of Pork, wife of a man who joined a party whose leader said "I hate America", and member of a church that takes credit for praying Mother Theresa to death - seriously! Her church is praying to eliminate "Mary" worshippers, and rejoices that Mother Theresa died! How sick is that?
- freedomflame, on 09/08/2008, -3/+6Hi VCubed, thanks for listing several red flags about SP in one place.Would appreciate if you would list links/references to the following so I may share it with my friends:
Queen of Pork, party leader saying "I hate America", church taking credit for praying Mother Theresa to death, church praying to elilminate "Mary" worshippers. Thanks again - SethEllis, on 09/08/2008, -3/+8The comment is the perfect example of why Palin is being so effective. Trying to hit AIP is not getting back to the issues. It's the same stupid attacks that have already helped push McCain ahead in the polls.
- magus_melchior, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1Of course, there's always the possibility that VCubed was just being ironic.
- navcat, on 09/08/2008, -2/+5Whoa, a person who prays someone to death. I'm a christian but i never heard christ teaching that you pray someone to death even if they make the mistake of worshipping something else.. Hmm interesting. Thanks for the info.
- GiggleStick, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1It's a trap!
- uqdroma, on 09/09/2008, -1/+0Some diggers have a screwed up view of Christians. I've grown callus to it. Even though I don't identify with most far-right Christians, some diggers should really educate themselves about it as much as they do "other" religions. If they did they would find that most religion tries to teach one thing, morals. Unfortunately, most religions worldwide fail at teaching tolerance. This goes for far-right Christians and far-right Muslims. I guess the word is Orthodoxy. I actually find it to be ironic that Islamo-Fascists claim to want the Democrats in office. True or not, it would contradict that very Orthodoxy. The reason (no source) the Terrorists want left-leaning Democrats in office is that they hate Bush. "Like-minded" with the left, if you will. The reason they hate Bush is not the same though. They hate him because he has set their failure in motion. Like 'em or hate 'em, no politician will stop it now. The Democrats have always had a position different from Bush. That's not to say the Dems don't care about our safety, or support the troops, but the Terrorists believe that to be true. Both the left and the right think each other are loony. That's why they refuse to learn about and tolerate each other. I have however witnessed tolerance on both sides. Like when my Father, despite being a Baptist Deacon, uses the f-word when he's not around other Christians. Or when I see my friend, whom is a girl, violate her "morals" on Saturday, then attend an Evangelical Lutheran church on Sunday. Hypocritical or not, it's those "morals" that give the right the thought that they can temper force to bring peace and safety. I don't believe in war-mongering, but war is a necessary evil. The left seems to think they can buy peace, love, and happiness. I'd rather it would not be on my dime. So they can bash Christians all they want, but 22% of those Evangelicals still vote Democratic. This I WIL source...
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/artic ...
This is why it only makes them look bad to "dumb" Americans when they bash Palin for the way she deals with private issues despite campaigning on a "moral" platform. What do you think Obama's campaigning on? If we all agree politicians are liars, doesn't that make this Huff Post spam valid for Obama as well? Think people think. Preferably with your own mind.
- booksnmore4you, on 09/09/2008, -2/+6The only issue that needs hammering about Palin is: she is an _*extremist*_.
If your nephew, God forbid, rapes your daughter, she would have it illegal for her to have an abortion.
If, God forbid, a man kidnaps and rapes your daughter seven times a day over seven weeks, Palin would have it illegal for her to have an abortion.
No one, no one likes abortion, but again, Palin is an _*extremist*_.
That's really all we need to hammer home, again, and again, and again.
And here's the *reported* rape statistics in the U.S.: http://sa.rochester.edu/masa/stats.php - chr0nic21, on 09/09/2008, -1/+2yeah...but their kickin our asses on polls.......these ranting crap are useless
- mrsteveman1, on 09/09/2008, -0/+3I can kick Sarah Palins ass in Unreal or Quake too.
That's right, meaningless, just like polls. - akchrs, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1Yep, you're getting beat down in the polls. Kinky Friedman just said McCain and Palin were going to win.

- MacDreidel, on 09/08/2008, -17/+48She did a perfect job, distracting everyone from the issues. Her stance on issues is backwards and just plain wrong. She makes me sick!
McSame/Big Oil '08- patpl22391, on 09/09/2008, -8/+2Are we talking about Arianna Huffington who managed to distract the media for days with bull stories about Palin and her family? Arianna herself is the problem.
- bodisatvah, on 09/09/2008, -0/+4Not considering if her and McCain wins, she has a significant chance of being president when McCain dies. Understanding why Palin is a dumb ***** is as important as understanding why McCain has betrayed his service and lied to our faces.
- maz2331, on 09/09/2008, -1/+1I, for one, can't stand Arianna Huffington at all.
Knowing that SHE hates McCain and Palin is almost enough for me to hold the nose and vote for McCain.- magus_melchior, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1That's a very shallow and petty reason to vote for McCain.
Let's put it this way: I don't have a very high opinion of Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh, but their dislike of Obama isn't why I'm voting for the Democrat.
- magus_melchior, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1That's a very shallow and petty reason to vote for McCain.
- TigerStar337, on 09/09/2008, -0/+2Sarah Palin lies about everything. I find her church to be really scary too. Sarah at church: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QG1vPYbRB7k.
God Bless Barack Obama!- bodisatvah, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1I hate seeing "God Bless X".
God Bless should only be used as "God Bless EVERYONE" if at all. Then again, I'm an atheist.
- bodisatvah, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1I hate seeing "God Bless X".
- magus_melchior, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1I think continuing to point to her falling lockstep behind McCain and her commitment to the war should be a good way to tie her to Bush.
To repeat the tired Penny Arcade strategy: Shoot the Medic (McCain, Bush), not the Heavy (Palin).
- Kim41042, on 09/08/2008, -14/+40She is an extremist no different than those we are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. Palin and her kind believe they are anointed by God and God speaks to her in tongues that only she can understand. Our rights would be eliminated and the Constitution shredded. Add to the equation, John McCain, who can't think for himself and she will over power him. If elected, Palin will be the real one in control and that is the end of what our forefathers fought so hard to establish. We will no longer be free. We must fight back.
- ulsterwrod, on 09/09/2008, -1/+4"She is an extremist no different than those we are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. "
So according to you...Palin is a terrorist???- langdonalger, on 09/09/2008, -0/+4her buddies at church say israel deserves terrorist attacks for not believing in jesus. she might not be an active terrorist, but she is a sympathizer.
- IphtashuFitz, on 09/09/2008, -0/+3Anybody who believes that "god" or some other deity has anointed them and/or their country as the one true chosen people to wage war against non-believers is a religious zealot and terrorist in my book. That goes for Muslim extremists like bin Laden. It goes for whacko cult leaders like Jim Jones. And it goes for Christian extremists who invoke "god" to justify wars against those of other religious beliefs. Killing in the name of a god has never been justified, but it has resulted in millions, perhaps billions, of deaths throughout history. The Romans had a god of war and used it to help justify conquering their neighbors to expand the Roman empire. The Crusades of the 9th through 13th centuries resulted in an estimated 1 million deaths, all the result of Catholics targeting Muslims. In the 1400's the Spanish Inquisition resulted in mass tortures and the deaths of thousands who weren't Catholic. In the modern age we've got the Taliban who ruthlessly attack anybody who isn't a Muslim fundamentalist. As far as I'm concerned those were all terrorist in nature because people killed or were killed simply for their beliefs.
If Palin believes that "god" tasked the USA with the war in Iraq then she's no better than the Muslims who believe that Muhammad requires them to attack the USA and other "non-believers".
- bodisatvah, on 09/09/2008, -0/+4She has the mentality of a terrorist. You don't need to suicide bomb when you can smart bomb. Turn the tables and there wouldn't be helluva difference, I'm sure.
- pinchduck, on 09/09/2008, -1/+2You think the Democrats will protect our rights? Bush & Co. designed the Patriot Act, the Democrats signed off on it, and haven't done squat to roll it back, even when they gained Congress. Obama's "bold" vote on the FISA bill just ensures 4 more years of the same. You are presenting a false dichotomy. On the one hand, you can have a Corporetocracy with a Welfare State shredding your rights. On the other hand, you can have a Welfare State and a Corporetocracy shredding your rights. Vote Libertarian, or write in Ron Paul, or the taxpayer party, or whatever, but please do not present the Democrats as a credible alternative to the Republicans. They have far, far more in common than they do differences, and they both suck.
- magus_melchior, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1'You think the Democrats will protect our rights? Bush & Co. designed the Patriot Act, the Democrats signed off on it, and haven't done squat to roll it back, even when they gained Congress. Obama's "bold" vote on the FISA bill just ensures 4 more years of the same.'
The Democrats were cowed by the 49 Republicans in the Senate-- 50 if you count Cheney-- who can FILIBUSTER any attempt to repeal Bush's laws. The media likes to talk about the "lame duck" Bush, but in reality he has the Democrats in a deadlock in the Senate. All the Democratic victory in 2006 did was slow down the Bush White House.
Only a supermajority of Democrats in the Senate would have conceivably turned things around, but even then, the Blue Dog Democrats like Lieberman would have stood with the Republicans.
And Obama's move was a choice between: Vote against a FISA bill that would have passed anyway and give the GOP an easy, sticky, and persistent avenue of attack, or vote for it to give another law for Bush to break.
'You are presenting a false dichotomy.'
And 3rd-party advocates such as yourself often use the fallacy of composition-- you paint the whole of the Democratic party with the same brush that is appropriate for a subset. It is not a false dichotomy, because there is a reason why a 3rd-party President will not work this year; more below.
'Vote Libertarian, or write in Ron Paul, or the taxpayer party, or whatever, but please do not present the Democrats as a credible alternative to the Republicans. They have far, far more in common than they do differences, and they both suck.'
Yes, vote Libertarian, where you still don't have more than single-digits in the polls despite the Libertarian party's best efforts, and where you run the risk of voting in McCain-- and even in the current snowflake's chance in hell that a Libertarian, Green, Independent, etc., you have to deal with the fact that none of these parties have significant numbers of seats in the Congress, nor have they really decided to reach out to work with the 2 mainstream parties they seem to loathe.
Do you honestly think that in such a situation, Congress will do anything the President wants? No, the Democrats and the Republicans will simply legislate what they want and override any vetoes, no matter how well-intentioned and well-thought-out the President's plans are.
Get some seats in Congress first. The 3rd parties need either a significant minority there, or a coalition with Democrats and Republicans-- NOT the parties per se, but with members of those parties. You need allies in that branch of government before you can begin to work with them from the White House, and district and Senate elections are more reasonable targets to achieve. The upside is, you get to knock out corrupted legislators.

- ebethgrace, on 09/08/2008, -14/+36Sarah Palin has three things going for her, and, thus, the Republican party: 1) her "hockey mom" identity is distracting the "soccer Moms" of America. They don't have time to get any real information on the issues (and see how badly the republican party is screwing them)... They aren't big on McCain, but are loathe to pull the Blue Button for Obama... Palin could swing it for them; 2) her "Hotty SideKick" status (one who can "bring home the bacon, fry it up in and pan and never-never let you forget you're a man") is the sex appeal needed to grab the attention of waivering blue-collar guys who will now vote with their extensions; She is a Bush-Fembot; and 3) her anonymity is pure, decadent MYSTERY to the media, making her the perfect distraction from the heinous crimes of the past eight years. THAT is what the New Republicans do, instead of standing up for anything real and getting any work done. Oh, that and spending all of our tax money, calling themselves "small government," then blaming the Democrats for everything.
- magus_melchior, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1'Oh, that and spending all of our tax money, calling themselves "small government," then blaming the Democrats for everything.'
Not only that, the Republicans give the surplus to the wealthy and the corporations with the on-the-surface promise to "trickle it down", and borrow a big wad of cash to spend on... the corporations. And even though they're for fiscal responsibility, they, for some reason, forget about balancing the budget for 6 years, and don't materially help the Democratic majority try to do the same, whining about "tax and spend" Democrats who just want to dig the government out of the massive hole.
If they were the board of directors of a big Fortune 500 corporation, we (the "shareholders") would be suing the pants off of them.
- magus_melchior, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1'Oh, that and spending all of our tax money, calling themselves "small government," then blaming the Democrats for everything.'

My friends have been distracted. The media has been distracted!
Meanwhile McCain and Palin are having a field day which I can only hope blows up and continues to reverberate with backfires until election day.
But Obama and Biden need to get rid of some their fine manners and let loose -- not just about what needs to be done to revive our country but why McCain and Palin will only set us back to the stone age. - Xihix, on 09/08/2008, -44/+9***** that *****, Adrianna Huffington. - gophigure2, on 09/08/2008, -10/+18Once again, Arianna cuts to the chase. Kudos! My primary concern is that our nation has become so obsessed with tabloid style news. It seems that people today are far more likely to be fascinated (or titillated) by Palin's daughter, or church, or moose, ad nauseum, than they will be interested in any actual policies or plans McCain/Palin might or might not have. I think this is a major problem in America and I don't see an easy answer.

Keep doing John McCain's work for him. - georgemason01, on 09/09/2008, -26/+23Arianna Huffington: Please stop sucking Kevin Rose's ***** and get off my front page. - btschul, on 09/09/2008, -14/+12From the description and article: "simply a bountiful collection of small lies deliberately designed to distract the country from one big truth:" That sentence perfectly describes the Huffington Joke. - deleo, on 09/09/2008, -7/+11The most disturbing thing about all of this is how much it shows that the media controls elections. The mainstream media is the middle of a deep love affair with Sarah Palin right now. They started asking tough questions about her for two seconds, and then when Sarah Fever popped up, they jumped right on board to celebrate. Now we are stuck with the prospect of having a VP that doesn't know what the f*ck she is doing, which is really not funny, considering McCain's age and bouts with cancer.
It will be up to the media to decide whether they want to take off their rose colored glasses on Sarah off or not and ask the serious questions about Sarah that are being posted here and other places. The swing voters who will decide this election are not seeing these stories, and that's a real tragedy for our country. Shame on the media for allowing it to happen. If you'll send me your address, Todd would like to take you out for a day of absolutely back breaking labor. It sounds a bit harsh - but it's really tough love. When you're finished for the day, I promise to make you the best moose meatloaf and mash potatoes you've every had. For dessert: warm oatmeal cookies served with a glass of really, really cold whole milk.
It sounds a bit harsh - but it's really tough love. It'll help your emo state of mind.
PS. Don't forget to comb your bangs.
