In Debate, Obama Takes One Step Closer to Presidency
eyesonobama.com — Going into tonight ‘s presidential debate, John McCain didn’t just need a win. A knockout probably wouldn‘t have even done it. He needed one of those power-punch, drop-the-other-guy to the mat fight-finishers that go down in history among some of the greatest comebacks of all time. His failure to achieve it may have effectively ended his bid.

- col381, on 10/08/2008, -0/+22Obama looked cool, calm, respectful and in control - basically he looked Presidential.
McCain looked increasingly grumpy, condescending, somewhat pasty and decidedly unhealthy. I think he needs a rest. All going well he will get one in a few weeks time. - gobbstopp, on 10/08/2008, -0/+9i was totally let down by both candidates last night. yes, obama was smooth and slick and, sure, 'presidential', but he rambled on in ways that i didn't expect, rehashing ***** that he's been saying 'needs to be dropped to focus on issues'. i thought to myself maybe he didn't get enough sleep the night before? his thoughts seemed jumbled in ways i hadn't seen since the primaries. he was even forced to distort facts in ways he doesn't usually do, but that was all due to mccain's prodding. what was stopping him from saying: 'look, let's seriously focus here, i'll stop even MENTIONING you, mccain, if you agree to stop mentioning me. let's answer some questions.' THAT, to me, would have been a very human moment during a race that has been anything but. just my opinion, but i was agitated, bored, and looking for more from BOTH since this was culminating into a debate for the ages. it was not.
then there's mccain. i'm assuming i don't need to elaborate on his performance. whatta maroon. - Bartboy919, on 10/08/2008, -0/+5You can't stop Barack.

"I apologize if I sound like a broken record. But once again, Obama won the debate according to essentially every objective metric. And recall that, even if the debate were a tie, this would not have helped John McCain; he needed a clear win tonight. Instead, he's continued to dig himself into a deeper electoral hole."
