Investigation into Palin Now on Fast Track
abcnews.go.com — Sources Tell ABC News that Report Will Be Released Almost Three Weeks Early

- HeidiRenee, on 09/05/2008, -11/+124oh let this be the "October surprise"
- lajaw, on 09/05/2008, -44/+6Because Democrats can't win on ideas. They must win be "default" like obama always has.
- Br3ach, on 09/05/2008, -8/+17Proof or shut the ***** up
- DVmaker, on 09/05/2008, -3/+18Apparently, you sir, have no ideas of you own.
- Mejari, on 09/05/2008, -1/+9You're really going to claim that Obama is the one who wins by "default", when the only reason McCain is the nominee because he just muddled along while everyone else actually tried to win and screwed themselves over, so he was the only one left.
- Hillsfar, on 09/06/2008, -1/+6The Alaska Legislature, DOMINATED BY REPUBLICANS, in a bipartisan effort, started this investigation. So for Republicans to say it's a Democratic witch-hunt is out-and-out lying. It goes along with McCain/Palin promising to bring transparency and honesty to Washington, while her lawyer tries to delay the investigation and even tried to get the investigation to be transferred to a 3-person panel made up of appointees APPOINTED BY PALIN (who owe their jobs to Palin). Until Republicans address this little hypocrisy issue, anything else they say in these comments are not to be believed.
- an0nymous, on 09/05/2008, -6/+11Really? I'ld like the october surprise to be the release of the anti-American propaganda that McCain recorded while in Vietnam.
He keeps talking about how he was a POW and how it made him love America and no one ever mentions that he collaborated.
http://www.snopes.com/politics/mccain/warcriminal. ...- SkippyDoorknob, on 09/05/2008, -3/+10POWs are forced to say things all the time like that, including written statements. No one takes them seriously.
Remember the pilots shot down in the first Gulf War? They were all put on Iraqi TV making anti-war statements. - an0nymous, on 09/05/2008, -5/+2Cool. Then you agree they should be released.
Let's lay all the cards on the table. - SkippyDoorknob, on 09/05/2008, -0/+6What cards? He admits to what happened, he's not trying to cover anything up. No one would fault him for anything. He was tortured. His statements under those conditions are meaningless. If anything it would help him get the sympathy vote.
That link doesn't support your point. Perhaps you're having some problems with reading comprehension? - an0nymous, on 09/05/2008, -4/+1I don't know what he said. I haven't heard the tapes. It's a matter of pertinent historical record. While I don't fault him for it personally, I think everyone should get the chance to make up their own minds.
Don't you? - BotaXero, on 09/05/2008, -1/+0Perhaps that's a better question for the Vietnamese, or do you just secretly want to see a video of McCain being beaten?
- SkippyDoorknob, on 09/05/2008, -3/+10POWs are forced to say things all the time like that, including written statements. No one takes them seriously.
- bridow, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2and a great way for French, the investigator, to get a nice payoff from mccain. he'll be working in the WH if mccain wins for sure.
- rolf, on 09/05/2008, -7/+1I find it disturbing that a single democratic Senator, Hollis French, is heading this thing and announcing he's releasing it at an opportune time and already saying this will damage her administration. No bias there, yeah:(
- Mejari, on 09/05/2008, -0/+4Actually, releasing it at it's original date would have been more devastating for McCain, at least now he has a few extra weeks to spin the fact that his VP pick is an unethical hypocrite. So, if you look at it logically he has just shown his lack of bias.
- banzai26, on 09/05/2008, -5/+4It will be a whitewash that completely exonerates her.... No suspense here....
- arcangelgabriel, on 09/05/2008, -0/+1Dream on Laughing boy.
- fluxion, on 09/06/2008, -0/+1that's what i originally thought, but it is still the same guy that initially started the investigation, and he doesnt seem to be sitting on good news. i doubt anyone has gotten to him, it would be too risky to get involved in a conspiracy like that at this point in the game, particularly with a guy that probably wouldnt cooperate as expected.
- PleaseJustDie, on 09/05/2008, -1/+4Wait what? I thought the governor was throwing up road blocks to halt the investigation, but its on a fast track and will be finished early? Oh media, where art the truth?
- an0nymous, on 09/05/2008, -1/+4Her stalling has been unsuccessful.
The investigation has been stepped up.
- an0nymous, on 09/05/2008, -1/+4Her stalling has been unsuccessful.
- dk911, on 09/05/2008, -7/+0Oh, how interesting. If this were reversal of parties, you better bet it would read "Sarah Palin (R) plans to release the report on Senator Hollis (D)" three weeks early. Instead, I had to search out Senator Hollis on the web to see that he's a Democrat. Obviously this is a smear tactic, orchestrated by the Democrat party. Obama's probably behind this (or at least, his campaign managers are).
She's also already addressed this. Why do people keep beating this dead horse??- an0nymous, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2She said she welcomes the investigation. You should respect her wishes.
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/aug/30/pa ...
all she's gotta do is cooperate.
Her "addressing this" was limited to a denial which seems to be contradicted by the recordings of the phone calls.
Some questions have to be answered.
- an0nymous, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2She said she welcomes the investigation. You should respect her wishes.
- nixfu, on 09/05/2008, -7/+2I think your going to find the October Surprise is going consists of some Birth Certificates, Muslim Adoption Papers, Indonesian Citizenship records, and Passports.
- Mejari, on 09/05/2008, -0/+4http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/born_in_th ...
- arcangelgabriel, on 09/05/2008, -0/+7I think your going to find the October Surprise is that your Rush Limbaugh Press on Penis™ is really a kosher dill and some pushpins.
- Viperidae, on 09/05/2008, -0/+7Sarah Palin is a muslim from Indonesia?
- lajaw, on 09/05/2008, -44/+6Because Democrats can't win on ideas. They must win be "default" like obama always has.
- pennsykid2000, on 09/05/2008, -10/+51This is what Palin wants. I think the implication is that Palin and the Republicans want it speeded up so they have time to minimize the damage. If it was released when scheduled, Oct 31, they wouldn't have time to react. This is like the news of Bush's DUI arrest from 1976 that was disclosed to the press just before the 2000 election. He didn't have time to respond.
- Buddhaismybuddy, on 09/05/2008, -3/+24Or they will bend some arms to make sure it says shes innocent then exploit it to the max.
They aren't stupid they are republican.- azhura, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2Isn't that in some ways both?
- brb1031, on 09/05/2008, -0/+3az, The *politicians* are wily, while the voters are ...
- IphtashuFitz, on 09/05/2008, -0/+5Only problem is that if it does provide some really damning evidence then the Democrats will have three whole weeks to hammer her over it instead of just three days.
- lajaw, on 09/05/2008, -1/+10And he still won the election.
- SkinnerBox, on 09/06/2008, -1/+2The President America could have a beer with.. and then get in the car and run down a family of four with.
- samthurston, on 09/06/2008, -0/+4"Now watch this drive!"
- BenKenobi88, on 09/06/2008, -0/+3SkinnnerBox, with what...with what?
- VigRoco, on 09/05/2008, -5/+8or better yet we will all learn that this is nothing and is just a baseless attack.
- an0nymous, on 09/05/2008, -2/+2I hope that it is. She's one labored breath from becoming president. It would be nice to know that she was not the sort of absolute ***** that would abuse her position. I look forward to seeing the report. One hint of impropriety will end McCain's campaign.
- Mejari, on 09/05/2008, -1/+5"One hint of impropriety will end McCain's campaign."
Hahahahaha.
"one hint"? Really? You haven't seen the hundreds of hundreds of "hint"s?
- Buddhaismybuddy, on 09/05/2008, -3/+24Or they will bend some arms to make sure it says shes innocent then exploit it to the max.
- SushiCW, on 09/05/2008, -1/+46Good. Get it settled soon, one way or another.
- Ralphdraw3, on 09/05/2008, -10/+4get choice John McCain:
a governor who is under investigation!!! from a state that is racked with corrruption...- VigRoco, on 09/05/2008, -7/+4..oh yes, sooooooo much corruption.
please - oscenester, on 09/05/2008, -1/+4Shut up Vig. You obviously haven't been paying attention to recent events in Alaska.
- VigRoco, on 09/05/2008, -7/+4..oh yes, sooooooo much corruption.
- lalalalamppost, on 09/05/2008, -0/+4I agree. Let us not rush to judgment. I appreciate that they are not delaying this beyond the election.
- Ralphdraw3, on 09/05/2008, -10/+4get choice John McCain:
- jsatz23, on 09/05/2008, -8/+72It should be released before the election because the public deserves to know everything about this woman who will basically be President with McCain having one foot in the grave already if McCain wins.
- VigRoco, on 09/05/2008, -12/+6You are correct. We do need to learn that this is utter nonsense before the election.
...oh wait, some of us already know that. silly me. we will wait for the rest of you.- twiztidsinz, on 09/05/2008, -5/+4Share or STFU.
- lajaw, on 09/05/2008, -14/+3And Obama should release his birth certificate and his medical records and his grades because the public deserves to know everything about this man who will may be President .
- ralph123, on 09/05/2008, -1/+13Sigh:
FactCheck.org staffers have now seen, touched, examined and photographed the original birth certificate. We conclude that it meets all of the requirements from the State Department for proving U.S. citizenship. Claims that the document lacks a raised seal or a signature are false. We have posted high-resolution photographs of the document as "supporting documents" to this article. Our conclusion: Obama was born in the U.S.A. just as he has always said.
http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/born_in_th ... - twiztidsinz, on 09/05/2008, -0/+8*covers ears and closes eyes* LALALALALALALALALA
WHERE'S OBAMA'S BIRTH CERTIFICATE?? - ohokyeah, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2Sadly, when I saw the original photo copy of Obama's birth certificate I knew it was real without having to have FactCheck tell me. It looks pretty much identical to my daughter's birth certificate (she was born in Hawaii).
If anyone is not certain to be a natural born citizen it's John McCain who was born in Panama. The courts have never actually covered the issue of a child being born in a foreign country to American parents being a natural born citizen or not.
"In fact, the phrase "natural born Citizen" is not defined anywhere in the Constitution itself and its interpretation has never been the subject of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling. Thus, some argue that even those born abroad to US citizens are not eligible to ascend to the Presidency, since an act of the United States Congress such as the Naturalization Act may not overrule the Constitution (see "Natural born citizen" as presidential qualification). Thus far, presidential candidates George W. Romney (born in Mexico), and Barry Goldwater and John McCain (born in U.S. territories), were never seriously challenged on the basis of their "natural-born" citizenship, but no candidate falling under this classification has ever actually become President, and therefore the question must be regarded as not having been finally decided." - VigRoco, on 09/05/2008, -12/+6You are correct. We do need to learn that this is utter nonsense before the election.
- johnnr2, on 09/05/2008, -23/+20Who do think will be McSame's next VP choice? I think his mother would be a good VP.
- bushisafag, on 09/05/2008, -3/+27I understand he is already "vetting" Paris Hilton.
- BufordT, on 09/05/2008, -6/+5Sorry, you lose. I saw a guy earlier today who used McSame and was only the fourth comment posted (he had more diggs as well) I realize using Mc____ names get you diggs, but for the sake of your own dignity you should really stop using terrible name insults. You people are all the same in the sense that you're all using McSame instead of McCain.
- stix213, on 09/05/2008, -8/+3All your McSame lines are pretty McLame. Mommy look I made a funny too! I'm really politically and stuff!!!
McCain's claim to fame, and the only reason he is known to most americans, is that he has been a constant thorn in Bush's side, and gives the finger to the GOP whenever he thinks they deserve it.
Keep using that lame "McSame" line, cause no one buys it, no one ever did. The only people who do are people like you who are so stupid they actually think "McSame" is clever.
I know, lets all do lame word play! Baroccoli Obama
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://grum ... - heystoopid, on 09/06/2008, -1/+1Looks like he is down to the last candidate his mistress !
- AmericanGunner, on 09/05/2008, -55/+6WHOOOOO CARESSSSSS
- EtherGnat, on 09/05/2008, -0/+17Seriously! Who cares if the woman who wants to be the second most powerful person in American politics likes to illegally abuse her power. Nothing bad could possibly come of that.
- Br3ach, on 09/05/2008, -1/+7Americans who dont want their country turned into a fascist police state under McCain/McMilf and their party pals
- twiztidsinz, on 09/05/2008, -0/+9Um... I'm gonna take a long shot here....
The American public? - jellygraph, on 09/05/2008, -0/+5Everyone but you...
- mach68, on 09/05/2008, -22/+53HOPE FADES FOR McCAIN/PALIN.
- lajaw, on 09/05/2008, -24/+9Democrats are in panic mode. It's really enjoyable to see too.
- an0nymous, on 09/05/2008, -1/+13Interesting interpretation. Situation looks reversed to me.
- flashback99, on 09/06/2008, -0/+3is this what the feed from fox news to your tin foil hat is telling you?
- Wakkyweed, on 09/06/2008, -0/+2The Republicans are in panic mode, and the Palin pick is proof of that. McCain knew that he was going to lose the race (Newt Gingrich admitted as much in a Daily Show interview the other day) and he needed a Hail Mary pass to save his failing candidacy. Palin is his answer to Obama: very attractive, well spoken, telegenic, and a dynamic speaker. Unfortunately for McCain, he didn't properly vet her first and so he missed all of the skeletons in her closet.
Palin may be the kick in the pants that McCain needed to get elected, but more likely she will crash and burn, bringing his candidacy down along with her.
- Suzilla, on 09/05/2008, -4/+14@lajaw
You ENJOY seeing a country divided? You ENJOY seeing mud slung at specious issues? You enjoy seeing energy expended to make up lies and divert attention from the real problems facing us all?
Really?- HamNCheese, on 09/05/2008, -2/+6I would ENJOY seeing this neo-conservative wench lose. Period.
- SDeluxe, on 09/05/2008, -0/+7Yep, I want to see her this cynical tyrant who calls himself a republican be taken down. Give it a good few months time. Obama will settle in, the wealthy will cry, and all of those born into less fortunate situations, or those of who don't live the good life, can maybe.. feel a tiny bit of this "prosperity" that John McCain speaks of
- ryborg, on 09/05/2008, -0/+5exactly why McCain/Palin wont have my vote!
- pwrx, on 09/05/2008, -1/+0SDeluxe: Fully agree that those born into less fortunate situations need, and deserve help to get an education, support and tools necessary to be successful.
When you start talking about redistributing wealth to 'those that don't live the good life', you come across as a lazy, mindless, wacko freak. I'm pretty darn conservative but agree the left side of the aisle 'usually' has good intentions at heart when it comes to social programs. It's not possible for everyone to 'live the good life' as there would be no motivation for anyone to take the risk to start a business or bust their hump to do better for their families.
Let's help everyone with the necessities. But for you: get a job.
I doubt the left even wants to frame Obama up as you have. - Suzilla, on 09/05/2008, -1/+2@pwrx
SDelux said nothing about redistributing wealth. In fact, that's not what the Democratic approach is about at all. It's about creating opportunity and making it available to those who are not born into the good life, those such as John McCain, the Bushes, and their ilk. It's about ending corporate socialism and making sure this government remains one of, for, and by the People.
Your knee-jerk transmogrification of "feel a little bit of this prosperity" into "redistribute the wealth" demonstrates that you've been well-conditioned by the corporatist media. Congratulations. You're today's right-winged cockatool. Enjoy your cracker, Polly. - pwrx, on 09/05/2008, -2/+0Suzilla,
Nice try, especially by wrapping up with a witless crack.
SDeluxe is clearly referring to individuals in his post and not attempting to tow your standard, anti-corporate line.
Nice republican-only examples of wealth by the way.. - vexingmodstwo, on 09/06/2008, -1/+3If you want marxism, get the ***** out of this country.
Thanks. - BrainInAJar, on 09/06/2008, -1/+2@vexingmodstwo
"If you want to not be subject to the King's rule, get the ***** out of the colonies."
Seriously, dumbest argument ever. I don't agree with marxism either but this is a country founded through revolution. People holding revolutionary thoughts ought to be shown how they're wrong, not simply told "get out"
- pat25fire, on 09/05/2008, -0/+5"There never was much hope. Just a fool's hope. "

- iamghost, on 09/06/2008, -1/+1Didn't Bill Clinton lie under oath to the country? SCANDALS
- BrainInAJar, on 09/06/2008, -0/+3about a blow job, something he never should've been asked in an official capacity anyways
- lajaw, on 09/07/2008, -2/+1He lied under oath. Fool...........
- lajaw, on 09/05/2008, -24/+9Democrats are in panic mode. It's really enjoyable to see too.
- savagesteve13, on 09/05/2008, -11/+46Now what?!? She's so scandal ridden she makes McCain look clean, or maybe thats the purpose.
- swollentiki, on 09/05/2008, -14/+12Scandal ridden? How so? Are you referring to all the baseless FUD that's been flying around on digg from biased bloggers?
- ajames01, on 09/05/2008, -9/+4Wow... scandal ridden huh? That is amazing for someone not really caught up in any scandals. I can't wait until this report comes out as well and you can put it on the shelf next to the other failed and debunked "scandals."
- Suzilla, on 09/05/2008, -4/+1This all has the stink of Rovian "innoculation" -- putting some bad news out there in a way that we can all be "infected" by it so as to build up a resisitance, rendering any further information about it moot.
- kigcoopa84, on 09/05/2008, -59/+15Chicago's shooting deaths this summer are two times the US troop casualties in Iraq for the same time period. Way to go Obama! Great organizing!

Over 200 diggs and 150 comments= not on front page
At the time I posted this, this article had 117 Diggs; 9 comments and is on the front page.- clak, on 09/05/2008, -6/+23Listen, idiot, Chicago has 3 million residents. We have 130,000 soldiers in Iraq. Do the math. The percentage of American deaths compared to population is much higher in Iraq than it is in Chicago.
And there has also been 756 Iraqi murders in the month of May to Chicago's 125 over the entire summer. But I guess Iraqi lives don't mean much to patriotic Americans like you.- dk911, on 09/05/2008, -6/+0Right back at ya *****. Seems that those 756 murders were done by... wait for it... Iraqi's. The deaths in Chicago... wait for it... residents of Chicago. Which one is Obama (or was he) responsible for?
I'll give you a hint: Not Iraq. - Mejari, on 09/05/2008, -0/+3So, wait, you're calling Obama a murderer?
Chicago = Part of the US
Iraq = not
So why are our men fighting and dying over there when, probably, they could be put to better use in their non-military jobs here in the US?
- dk911, on 09/05/2008, -6/+0Right back at ya *****. Seems that those 756 murders were done by... wait for it... Iraqi's. The deaths in Chicago... wait for it... residents of Chicago. Which one is Obama (or was he) responsible for?
- TheToecutter, on 09/05/2008, -2/+7There's nothing I can do about gangbanger thugs shooting each other in Chicago. There is something I can do about who our next president is.
- kigcoopa84, on 09/05/2008, -4/+1well it looks like Obama need something else to run on
- ericderrick, on 09/05/2008, -1/+1The reason for the increase in shooting deaths is because of the dismantling of the entire gang hierarchy leaving small gangs to take up the power. get your facts straight
http://chicagoist.com/2008/08/07/chicagos_murder_r ... - EtherGnat, on 09/05/2008, -1/+6Quit whining, and quit spamming your story. The Digg algorithm includes many factors, most notably rate of diggs. That story has averaged less than 10 diggs per hour. I know you think it's some kind of liberal conspiracy, but maybe this will change your mind:
http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Iraq_Vets_Infilt ...
Liberal story, 475 Diggs in 18 hours, no front page. - pintomp3, on 09/06/2008, -0/+1funny how that study ignore the shooting death's of iraqi's in iraq. if you are only going to count solider death's in iraq, you should only count police deaths in chicago.
- ziffel, on 09/06/2008, -0/+1I don't even know where to begin addressing this level of idiocy.
I can only surmise that you're one of those 20% of American buffoons that still support the Bush Regime.
- clak, on 09/05/2008, -6/+23Listen, idiot, Chicago has 3 million residents. We have 130,000 soldiers in Iraq. Do the math. The percentage of American deaths compared to population is much higher in Iraq than it is in Chicago.
- VigRoco, on 09/05/2008, -34/+7And 'sources' will soon say it was all a baseless claim. Everyone seems to want a piece of her. Is she really that attractive or are they just afraid she might actually bring real change to Washington?
- liquidmetalband, on 09/05/2008, -2/+1Of course.
- twiztidsinz, on 09/05/2008, -1/+9How is being deceitful and corrupt a change?
- ajames01, on 09/05/2008, -3/+1Looks like you got the report early... care to share your findings?
- VigRoco, on 09/05/2008, -6/+1um...because McCain did not pick a Washington insider for a running mate like Obama did. That's why
(and this investigation will reveal nothing because no one has anything on Palin)
- stix213, on 09/05/2008, -4/+1Lefties are only afraid they won't get credit for such change, as that is more important than change itself (otherwise Obama would define what his version of "change" is)
- SmartfulDodger, on 09/05/2008, -0/+5I don't see how Palin will bring change to Washington. Her platform is still pretty small, but so far it is the exact same as President Bush's.
Support for oil companies, pro drilling for oil without support for developing other domestic energy sources, abstinence-only sex education, pro-life......see where this is going?- VigRoco, on 09/05/2008, -0/+1that is true, which is why we have Congress to weed out some of the crazier stuff.
- SmartfulDodger, on 09/05/2008, -1/+1Ahh, so it's Congress that will change Washington, not Gov. Palin. Glad to see you've come around in your opinions!
- VigRoco, on 09/06/2008, -0/+1They will have to work together to produce any change at all. Which is what McCain and Obama are both working for.
Except Obama has not really done anything of substance yet, unlike McCain - SmartfulDodger, on 09/07/2008, -0/+1Well you and I both know that claim is full of *****. McCain is certainly not working toward any change at all. As its been well publicized, he does seem to support Bush 90% of the time....which isn't really change at all.
But you know Roco, I'll bite. On what issues is McCain and his campaign platform different than the current Bush Administration? For every difference you can name, I'll name three for Obama. Let's see who wins!
- Blasphemous88, on 09/05/2008, -8/+14They'll delay it at all costs. Anything to get the election over with with a victory. Who cares what the country finds out afterword. I mean look what we tolerated after we found out how horrendous the Bush administration was?
- liquidmetalband, on 09/05/2008, -17/+39She is so obviously a crook. Look at her extremist creationist and educational policies. Look at her wrecked household family. And most importantly, look at how she always stresses the "hockey mom" aspect to hide her lack of credibility. It's all about personality for her.
- IphtashuFitz, on 09/05/2008, -3/+10Are you really trying to equate extremism & creationism with her being a crook? That's the way your comment reads to me...
- stix213, on 09/05/2008, -2/+5Your comment is so ridiculous I first thought that it was completely sarcastic...
- SmartfulDodger, on 09/05/2008, -0/+9It's all about personality. Or as one conservative commentator put it, "political ***** about narratives".
- ButterLoyalist, on 09/05/2008, -35/+7I'm from the future, and I just wanted to let you know that McCain / Palin won the election.
Love,
ButterLoyalist- twiztidsinz, on 09/05/2008, -1/+10Well.. that'd sure explain why you felt the need to escape the future.
- ruforealz, on 09/05/2008, -0/+5Is there a cure for herpes in the future?
...
don't ask

- chrissku, on 09/05/2008, -8/+30If McCain had done his job in the first place the media wouldn't have to dig this hard. This has nothing to do with Sarah being a women. If it was Sam Palin they would be doing the exact same thing. If the media were to stop digging they would be doing the American people a huge disservice.
FYI McCain campaign.....the more you try to bury Sarah's past, the harder they will dig.- BobSconce, on 09/05/2008, -2/+1Dig hard? McCain knew about this and apparently believed that it wasn't important enough or that she didn't actually do anything wrong. He has an entire team doing the vetting and *of course* they would know about an ongoing investigation.
The complaints about different treatment for her being a woman have nothing to do with this episode. Those complaints are focused on people like Gloria Steinem calling her a man and feminists publicly saying that she won't be able to be the VP and a good Mom at the same time, while nobody questions whether Obama could be both a good Dad and President.
Don't take the "sexist" thing for more than it's worth. Much of the criticism is not sexist. But, a good portion of it was, especially between the announcement and her speech.

- Dibou, on 09/05/2008, -21/+14It is incredibly funny to see people thinking Palin did something wrong here. With so many diggers and their popular, "***** the police / ***** the RIAA" slogans because of the occasional police brutality (that is universally condemned by everyone, but used to stereotype ALL police by the left) perhaps they just haven't heard from their "balanced and fair" news sources that this particular policeman tasered his own 11-year old son, drank beer in his police car and other things. Who wouldn't fire the guy? Apparently that guy's boss didn't think tasering an 11-year old was a big deal. So Palin fired him.
Palin should be the hero of diggers because of this.- levelred, on 09/05/2008, -3/+8Great statement. But however, the question should be, how come he wasn't fired before the custody hearing, and not tasering the kid, dui and shooting the moose.?
- sigsegfalt, on 09/05/2008, -2/+6The kid asked for it. Really, he did.
- stix213, on 09/05/2008, -7/+8"So Palin fired him. Palin should be the hero of diggers because of this."
You forget, there is only one thing lefty diggers hate more than a bad cop, and that is a Republican getting the credit for busting him. - BobSconce, on 09/05/2008, -2/+5So, I would agree with you, but that's not what the probe is about. The basic charge is that she pressured the head of Alaska's public service department to fire the bastard, but the department head refused to fire him. Then, Palin fired the department head, saying she wanted to take the department "in a different direction."
It's pretty clear that she wanted the bastard fired -- there's plenty of evidence of that. But, she's being accused of firing the bastard's *boss* for personal reasons. And, that's where the whole thing breaks down -- there is very little evidence of her reason for doing so. And, it's not completely clear that not firing the bastard was strictly a "personal reason." - Mejari, on 09/05/2008, -2/+2If all the horrible things about this cop are true, then yes, he should definitely be fired. But that's not Palin's job, and she used her power to try and force the person whose job it was to do what she wanted. That's the problem.
- Dibou, on 09/11/2008, -0/+1It is a problem that Palin wanted the people under her to have ethics in their dealings with the public?
The horror of it all!
- Dibou, on 09/11/2008, -0/+1It is a problem that Palin wanted the people under her to have ethics in their dealings with the public?
- BotaXero, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2Palin was ultimately responsible for who worked for the state. If she knew of a potential problem and didn't correct it by getting rid of the officer(s) before a lawsuit, she is doing a disservice to Alaska. It doesn't matter how you hear about it, wether it's your neighbor, brother in law or husband.
- RationalCenter, on 09/06/2008, -0/+1Has anybody listened to Wooten's side of the story? Everything we've heard is what the disgruntled ex and her family accused him of, and only a few of the accusations have been proven. As to tasering his step-son, according to Wooten, the boy asked to try it out, and Wooten put the taser on the very low-powered "demonstration" setting. It may have been bone-headed, but it isn't necessarily the evil-step-father going medieval on a helpless child story Palin and her sister have made it out to be.
- hierophantus, on 09/06/2008, -0/+1Due Process. I guess you don't care about it, but it's in something called "The Constitution."

Try harder please. - Mejari, on 09/06/2008, -0/+1So your logic is that if she isn't qualified for the job she should be allowed to get away with illegal abuses of power? I do agree that she is a threat, however. She is a threat in the way that teaching creationism in our schools, attempting to drill our way out of the energy crisis, and taking away a woman's right to choose (the very choice she is publicizing that her daughter made) are threats. BTW, the "libtards" pushing this investigation are REPUBLICANS in the extremely REPUBLICAN state of Alaska.

- mrwjd, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1"If she is innocent all the better, right? If not we have a right to know she abused her power"
________
This reply totally misses the point.
In a nation of law, an official doesn't bypass channels and ignore due process to punish someone first, when her blood is up, and justify it later. Or DIDN'T before 2000.
Regardless of ANYTHING that might have happened in the custody battle involving her sister, Palin had already grossly abused her authority when she took matters into her own hands in the first place. It makes NO DIFFERENCE what the underlying facts were; there is a process for dealing with them, and it does not consist of her clubbing people until she gets what she wants..
Do you want someone who thinks they can justify corrupt actions after the fact to be making decisions about, e.g., attacking foreign nations? I should think we'd had quite enough of that.
- kigcoopa84, on 09/06/2008, -1/+1I agree but already the media is not being fair
- mrwjd, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1The operative word is "inquire." What Palin did was to high-handedly take up her sister's side in a custody dispute, together with all the true and untrue allegations. and run with it--straight into corruption.
If she is so hotheaded she can't discipline herself to go through legal channels in this routine, if emotional, matter, what do you think she'll do the first time someone in government crosses her? Or, for that matter, a foreign power?
- kingofinternet, on 09/05/2008, -5/+2even though i think she's horribly underqualified and a token candidate. i have to agree with you here.
- Br3ach, on 09/05/2008, -6/+5From what it seems like she may have just pissed off the wrong people when she stood up instead of bowing out as a yeswoman jellyfish to her administration, though other aspects are indicating that she could be in trouble for abusing her position.
Either way, in the end all Palin's various daily skeletons are only an engineered distraction from McCain's embarrassingly bad "mis speaks" and to take the eyes and thunder away from Obama with good ol' fashioned gossip.
Pay attention to who really deserves it, gOBama! - thugbrian1, on 09/05/2008, -3/+7I'd investigate into Palin any day.

Here's my question: Why do democrat men hate women so much?- kingofinternet, on 09/05/2008, -2/+6i bet you were really upset over the sexism hillary faced. you hypocrite. call her good and upstanding once she's been vetted by the press.
- MindTrigger, on 09/05/2008, -5/+5You, sir, are ignorant. You and your moronic party had Palin shoved down your throats, just like you did John McCain. Like the good little sheep you are, you fall right in line. The only reason McCain is your candidate is because the other hopefuls self-destructed early on in the game. Your party ended up having to take their last choice. Now McCain went out with somewhere between 24 hours and 3 days of vetting, because he loves this country so much, and picked Palin. He's never worked with her, and probably never even heard her name until someone else told him about her. Now all her dirty laundry is coming out, and the republicans want to hide it while they are busy trying to dig up garbage on Obama.
Do you really think McCain chose her because of her qualifications? Or was it something more like the fact that he needed a big gimmick to help him gain a few points in the polls? Palin and her family are a train-wreck, and now you are stuck with two candidates your own party never wanted.
This is why I am an independent. I do not fall in line behind *any* party. I fall in line behind the issues I believe in and vote accordingly. Man it feels good to have an open mind and not letting a political party dictate my stance on issues, or my talking points.
- rolf, on 09/05/2008, -3/+8I'm looking into the original newspaper story of his dismissal, and it's interesting how none of this was mentioned, but:

"This is not the first time Monegan has lost his job. In 2006, Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich asked him to leave his post as Anchorage police chief early, although Monegan was willing to stay on another year. At the time, Begich had just won re-election and was restructuring department leadership.
Monegan joked that he's "getting a complex," but said the kinds of jobs he's had lately are ones where you serve at the pleasure of your boss.
"They can call me in and say, you know, 'I don't like your hair; you're fired,' " Monegan said." - SSAG, on 09/05/2008, -13/+6Bring it on. Voters really love when a mother is attacked by the press.
- foofightrs777, on 09/05/2008, -2/+4LOL you Republicans love to claim sexism as a motive on any attack but then defend her in sexist ways. Guess what? All of the candidates are parents of children. Great doublethink there.
PS: Which party was it that shot down ERA, denied there was any glass ceiling, and generally opposed any progress for woman as upsetting the status quo?- SSAG, on 09/05/2008, -1/+0Well, first you assume wrongly I am a republican, I'm a libertarian.
Second, I said nothing about sexism, only to point out that no one likes when a woman gets beat up and people aren't as protective over men, that's just plain fact. Go to a populated area and punch a random guy in the mouth and then punch a women in the mouth and see for yourself.
Third, the party you're attempting to slam freed the slaves while the democrats fought against that up through the 60s (look into Al Gore Sr.), so try boning up on your history before you run your jackass mouth.

- IrishJoe, on 09/05/2008, -2/+9A sped up investigation usually means whitewash. Excessively long investigations are fishing expeditions. Look at the years of Ken Starr investigations of Clinton trying to find anything until they hit pay dirt with Monica Lewinsky. Since McCain sent a battalion of his lawyers up to Alaska to twist arms and the Alaskan government is almost entirely Republican the outcome will be a whitewash. Trust me. Long after the election the truth will trickle out, but it will be too late to do any damage to Palin's VP chances. She's being kept silent to allow for heavy arm twisting and document shredding and bribing.
- nemo001, on 09/05/2008, -0/+1Partisan politics aside, if this were the truth:
The trooper, Mike Wooten was an abusive drunk and abusive person who tasered his 10-year-old stepson and Monegan would do nothing so Palin got rid of them both
is that justification enough?
I admit I do not know what happened. There may be a lot more to this story. Palin could be in the wrong.

- stix213, on 09/05/2008, -3/+6They wouldn't have moved up the release schedule if they thought they actually needed to do more investigation. Considering the sensitivity and what is at stake nationally, I don't see how this points to anything other than they don't have a damn thing on her.
If they did have some evidence they were working on, they would want as long as possible to find any other information to back up their accusations and to verify the existing information. - azhura, on 09/05/2008, -2/+8Dugg for being accurate.

- shredswithpiks, on 09/05/2008, -0/+1We could probably use this to show some sort of correlation to the type of people who watch Jerry Springer...
- kreighaus, on 09/05/2008, -8/+2Wow you Libs are really scared. Funny how the left is supposed to be so compassionate, yet the most vile and disgusting comments come from that direction.

- foofightrs777, on 09/05/2008, -0/+4The only thing we're scared of is a grossly under qualified individual being 2nd in line to the presidency when the president is 72 and had had cancer 3 times already. If McCain picked anyone with a shred of experience whether it be nation politics or business then this would be such a big deal. Instead McCain picked a pretty daughter of an oil baron who basically has two years of experience governing a state with more moose than people. When you top it off with her Bush-like positions, yes, it is a damn scary fact that she could be second in line to the presidency. Why couldn't McCain have chosen someone like Meg Whitman? Just goes to show that this i sall about the narrative and pandering to the evangelicals.
- kreighaus, on 09/06/2008, -1/+0And Obama is just such a wealth of experience?
- ashwinmudigonda, on 09/05/2008, -2/+11This is the republican ploy:
For the convention, get a chick. Get Hillary voters to switch camps and love McBush.
October surprise:
-> VP chick is Jack Abramoff's clone. Lose the VP chick. Get Lieberman/Romney and solidify base.
-> Release Bin Laden from secret prison and shoot him as he blinks for the first time in sunlight. Carry corpse on Fox news.- ajames01, on 09/05/2008, -3/+2"Release Bin Laden from secret prison and shoot him as he blinks for the first time in sunlight. Carry corpse on Fox news."

- johnnyfistfight, on 09/05/2008, -0/+3The exit polling in 2004 indicated Kerry was going to win in a landslide. You do have a good point regarding pollsters.
- nemo001, on 09/05/2008, -0/+1Yes, let us see what the investigation turns up. I sure hope it doesn't hurt Palin. But who knows, Walt Monegan could have been the greatest guy in the world and Palin had no right to fire him. I doubt it though but we shall see.
