McCain Leaks Details Of Obama's Iraq Trip

huffingtonpost.com — Republican presidential candidate John McCain said on Friday that his Democratic opponent, Barack Obama, is likely to be in Iraq over the weekend.If Obama is going to be in Iraq this weekend, this is a major breach on McCain's part.

    I don't understand how this is a "major breech" considering that the media usually announces trips like this ahead of time for members of the sitting administration. I don't see why a mere candidate should be afforded more courtesy than those currently in office.

    FTA: It's known that Obama is leaving on his foreign trip this weekend and the Journal OpEd page this morning said that Obama could arrive in Iraq "as early as this weekend." And with a slew of reporters in tow, it's not exactly highly classified information.

        Remove yourself from the Obama v. McCain partisan garbage and you'll see that this is a non-story. Reverse the actions of the two men (Obama making the same statement about a McCain trip), and it would be the same non-story. This trip is no secret.

        Again, refer to the part of this overblown blog's article that I quoted. His trip was far from a secret, and far from a highly classified operation.

        Apparently, those that have dugg me down haven't been paying attention to the countless news stories from every major media outlet that make no secret about Obama heading to the Middle East. Here I though Diggers were well read when it comes to current events. Silly me.

        As for the comment about senior officials visits, then why does the news constantly run stories stating "(insert official here) will be heading to Iraq next week/month, to meet with commanders and troops"?

      • txchica, on 07/19/2008, -1/+2Actually "today or tomorrow" is not very specific if you are planning some type of attack, that's a huge window, not to mention we don't know where he'll land, may be at some airbase outside of Baghdad and then fly in by helicopter. We don't know exacts, which is why it would be virtually impossible to plan any attack. You do realize they do security sweeps before these Congressional trips arrive, so even with an exact time, it would be really tough to carry out any sort of attack.
        As for the stoner comment, have you ever ventured out and read any of the other submissions, there are a lot of very juvenile posters.
