      Senator Joe Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has not endorsed either Senator Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton in the presidential race. But on Thursday, February 14, he is trying to rush Obama's "Global Poverty Act" (S.2433) through his committee. The legislation would commit the U.S. to spending 0.7 percent of gross national product on foreign aid, which amounts to a phenomenal 13-year total of $845 billion over and above what the U.S. already spends.

He was rumored to have been taking bribes and payments in return for favors, and in his famous speech he promised to release his taxes to prove he was as honest as the average American.
      The speech was a huge success and his taxes cleared him of suspicion, and this led him to be able to run for office in 1960.

      The British government is pretty open and politicians are still fighting an uphill battle to keep some of their finances private and failing, its open if you are looking some people dont look and thus assume it isnt.

Even both parents working is almost irrelevant with the cost of daycare, driving, time etc... Also consider planning for retirement, education, emergency. I live pretty modestly, and I'd say that $200k is just about the break even point. It also depends on where you live and (admittedly) how you live. Perhaps it's not "struggling", but it's also not "rich".

      And to your question: would you rather have a person who knows how to "struggle" on $200k, or a person who knows how to live the high life with tens of millions earned on the backs of others? I think you already have the latter, how's that working out for you? ;-)

(Thats on the cheap end). It gets relatively more expensive as you get closer to downtown. Also in the suburbs - the average house price for 2000 sq ft home is around 350K and up. Property taxes are usually 2-3% of that price annually. Plus gas here in chicago suburbs is around $3.40/gallon and is even more expensive in the city. Not to mention rising cost of food and other necessities. Plus higher sales tax.

        Based on your comment - you seem pretty ignorant. You should travel more. Might give you a better perspective on the cost of living varies nationwide.

      Super delegates inexplicably hand a win to Clinton, who won't beat McCain.

      Clinton can't catch up to Obama, but will destroy his reputation, making him unelectable. Clinton supporters will vote McCain, and Obama won't win any new supporters because of how bad him and Clinton beat each other up.

      I believe the later will happen, which will set up another Clinton run in 2012, this time running on the platform of "Look how bad the party screwed up last time, America wanted "experience", and you put up obama who gave the republicans 4 more years to muck about in Iraq.     We have had a field day with the Tuzla Dash and the exposure of Hillary Clinton as a fabulist over the last few days, although I have been writing about this since December. In truth, though, finding a Clinton untruth is something akin to shooting fish in a barrel. At this stage, political investors have, as they say in Wall Street, factored dishonesty into the Clinton stock price.

    However, Barack Obama has promised a new kind of politics. Unfortunately, he has the same problems with calculating birth dates as Hillary does. In his speech commemorating the 42nd anniversary of the march on Selma, Alabama, he credited the march with his existence even though he was almost 4 years old at the time:

    What happened in Selma, Alabama and Birmingham also stirred the conscience of the nation. It worried folks in the White House who said, You know, were battling Communism. How are we going to win hearts and minds all across the world? If right here in our own country, John, were not observing the ideals set fort in our Constitution, we might be accused of being hypocrites. So the Kennedys decided were going to do an air lift. Were going to go to Africa and start bringing young Africans over to this country and give them scholarships to study so they can learn what a wonderful country America is.

    This young man named Barack Obama got one of those tickets and came over to this country. He met this woman whose great great-great-great-grandfather had owned slaves; but she had a good idea there was some craziness going on because they looked at each other and they decided that we know that the world as it has been it might not be possible for us to get together and have a child. There was something stirring across the country because of what happened in Selma, Alabama, because some folks are willing to march across a bridge. So they got together and Barack Obama Jr. was born. So dont tell me I dont have a claim on Selma, Alabama. Dont tell me Im not coming home to Selma, Alabama.

    The first march on Selma took place on March 7, 1965 (there were three of them). At the time, Barack Obama was three and a half years old. Now, Obama also mentions the Birmingham march as part of this speech but that took place in May 1963. Obama would have been 20 months old when Dr. King led that demonstration.

    Thats not the only bit of fabulism here. Obamas birthdate is August 4, 1961. It doesnt take a doctor or a math whiz to calculate his conception as sometime in 1960 before John Kennedy took office. In fact, it might have taken place on Election Day, when Kennedy won the presidency. That would tend to indicate that Mom and Dad met sometime before the African airlift that Obama credits for his birth.

    So what does that mean? It could mean that his father and mother found hope in America even before the election of John Kennedy. It might mean that hope and change had already started because a broad class of Americans had already found racism intolerable and had started working to end it. It certainly doesnt mean that Obama owes his existence to the marches on Selma and Birmingham, and his appropriation of those marches reeks of something other than hope, change, or new politics.

    Perhaps the Democrats need to add positions to the staff of presidential candidates, just to handle the difficult task of calculating birth dates and world events. Between Obamas Selma conception and Hillarys Mount Everest naming, the Democrats look hopelessly inept at history on both a global and personal scale. (h/t: HA reader Stoo)

For God sakes don't ask any questions about the economy, endless wars or tax returns.
