huffingtonpost.com — Responding quickly to the character assaults being launched his way, Barack Obama is out with a new ad Sunday morning that, while attempting to place his candidacy above the fray, also digs John McCain as "erratic." (Watch)

- VoteGOP, on 10/05/2008, -15/+1If Mr. Husein Obama can't handle the heat, he should get out of the kitchen. This is politics. John McCain is putting his country first and trying to win the presidency for the good of the people. Mr. Husein Obama on the other hand wants nothing more than to turn this country into a socialist regime that would make Castro and Putin proud. Good for him for preempting these attacks. Seems like he's handling the heat well. I have faith that the American people, however, will see the light vote for two mavericks who will shake up Washington.

- nottanner, on 10/06/2008, -10/+4SO sick of every huffington post story hitting the front page regardless of content.
- nernie, on 10/06/2008, -1/+7This is the kind of temperament that I want in a leader: calm, collected, and intelligent. But when attacked unfairly he responds strongly, quickly, and convincingly while somehow always holding the high ground. This is how I want the world to see our country.
If you agree, don't tell me and all the other diggers. Tell the world: Vote. And make sure all your friends do too. http://make.ourpledgetovote.com/- THEScapeGoat, on 10/06/2008, -0/+0You are right on the money!
- lola29, on 10/06/2008, -1/+4I hope that enough American voters will see through these smears and attacks against Obama. We are hurting, these are difficult times and we need a leader that actually leads and stays focused on what is good for the country. I think Obama and Biden continue to demonstrate that kind of leadership.
- hierophantus, on 10/06/2008, -2/+3Who didn't know McCain would sink to this? The only surprise for me is that he's willing to admit he's desperate enough to play this card so far out from the election.
I thought since he went over to the Rove Dark Side, he would have learned from 2000, when Rove pulled that "black illegitimate child" smear campaign on him when it was too late for him to respond.
And what kind of dumb-ass campaign announces their intention to smear ahead of time, giving their opponents plenty of lead time to prepare a response to defang the attacks? *****' incompetent, just like everything else about the McCain campaign.
What's the point of selling out if you can't even do it well enough to reap the benefits? - spankaccount, on 10/06/2008, -4/+1These are not merely smears. BO has real ties to domestic terrorists AND racist hate mongers. Digg kids are not smart enough to realize how distasteful this is - thankfully, Digg kids are a very minor subset of America.
McCain in 08!- medfreak, on 10/06/2008, -0/+1McCain was a chair on a board that was a gathering of racists, extremists and AntiSemites.
McCain '08!

- gwayo, on 10/06/2008, -1/+1I dunno...I didn't like it much. It seemed weird as a preemptive strike, so to speak. Why doesn't the campaign put out an ad or two rebutting the 'smears' that we will be hearing repeated soon? Hard facts always are more impressive than subjective digs...just take the responses from these anti-Obama peeps here. Plus, there are so many better ways to expose McCain in an expensive ad...
- medfreak, on 10/06/2008, -0/+1Responding to them will open the door for a discussion on the attacks. Their strategy is to ignore them entirely, and flood the media with all kinds of attacks against McCain such as Keating 5, Palins Alaska Secessionist party affiliation and many others, thus eventually diluting the whole discussion. So when people see crap being swung both ways, it will lose its effect.
I think it is a much more effective a strategy than playing on defense. Offense is the best defense.
