- reland1, on 07/03/2008, -1/+5of course it's torture...that's why they call it torture....reading Christopher Hitchens is torture, too...they could read a whole bunch of his articles to them.....they would be begging for water boarding.
- greenfyre, on 07/03/2008, -0/+5Further, there is a huge difference between having anything being done when you know you are ultimately in control, and having it done by "enemies" who as far you know can and will do anything.
As we know now more than a few prisoners at Abu Ghraib and in Afghanistan have died at the hands of their American interrogators, and the Gitmo prisoners had no reason to expect any different.
For this to be any sort of realistic experience for Hitchens and the various media who have done it they need to be turned over to the folks at Gitmo and not released until they confess to their terrorist training with bin Laden.
Of course once they confess they should be tried and punished ... after all, they admitted it, right?
But before they are executed we should ask them if they think it was torture. - greenfyre, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4Here is a good article about Vet Eric Lomax who was waterboarded and tortured in numerous ways by the Japanese. Journalist Heather Mallick rather intelligently thought to defer to the guys who really know because they went through it.
