- melkor1984, on 07/02/2008, -13/+1the only reason i've signed this is the lack of unlimited data plans. otherwise i'm really on the fence between the different groups of people i see leaving comments. some say its way too much we are getting screwed and i disagree: its a hi-tech device, and warrants high tech prices (see the at&t plans just released, they are closer to rogers than expected, with the exception of unlimited data). i'm sure a lot of people complaining about the price can't afford a 52" tv or a blu-ray player either, you just have to suck it up and wait for the prices to come down.
- gfunk84, on 07/02/2008, -0/+6Unlimited data and like 3x the minutes. I also doubt AT&T starts their evenings at 9pm.
- lmulaire, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1They should change it to unlimited Nights and weekends.
- eengineer, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1I will disagree with you. I dont quite have a 52" tv, I have a 46" lcd and a bluray player, BUT I am certainly unhappy about current phone plans. This goes for more than just Rogers (i live in the US). I think more people should be complaining to their phone companies.
- jatt0012, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3What about the paltry 150 minutes on the base plan and then paying extra for stuff which should be included.
- fredmv, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1SHIFT key; use it. You don't look intellectual, you don't look artistic. Buried.
- gfunk84, on 07/02/2008, -0/+6Unlimited data and like 3x the minutes. I also doubt AT&T starts their evenings at 9pm.
- Fsyy, on 07/02/2008, -3/+39everyone support http://www.ruinediphone.com and http://www.notrogers.com because we need unlimited data plans
- foxhaze, on 07/03/2008, -4/+6I pointed out recently that signing an internet petition is basically signing a list saying "Please ignore the following people: "
Considering the circumstances, I find that I am quite right.- NavS, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3same here, but might as well do something than nothing. The best way to deal with this is to have everyone concerned call in.
- Quicksilver4648, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1You do realize an online petition was used to change Netflix's mind about removing a feature from their site? I don't know what to believe in anymore.
- oderdigg, on 07/04/2008, -2/+1The best thing you can do as a consumer is NOT buy the product. Simple and effective.
- fudged71, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1please see mine as well. made over a year ago, almost 9000 signatures:
www.petitiononline.com/iPhone99/petition.html - gregoryan, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1why isn't fido getting any backlash? their plan is almost identical to rogers', save for the unlimited evening start time (which is one hour earlier).
- frantzmail, on 07/04/2008, -0/+3Because Rogers owns Fido. Bashing Fido would be like blaming elves instead of Santa for bringing crappy gifts. Fido is billing per second and the evening starts 2 hours earlier (not 1)
- foxhaze, on 07/03/2008, -4/+6I pointed out recently that signing an internet petition is basically signing a list saying "Please ignore the following people: "
- radoslav87, on 07/02/2008, -12/+4what's all the fuss?
iphone? just glue your ipod to your phone flight of the conchords style!- skidooer, on 07/02/2008, -3/+2I wish the iPod Touch had bluetooth so that it could use the cell phone features from any phone. Maybe not as handy as the iPhone, but better than dealing with Rogers.
- nutsackninja, on 07/02/2008, -1/+11We need lower prices, $60 for a plan without voicemail, or call display and evenings starting at 9 is a rip. You would have to add another $30 a month to make that plan usable.
- lmulaire, on 07/02/2008, -1/+25If 27000 signatures is actually the amount of people that were going to sign up and get the value pack (you pretty much have to cause the plan sucks too much), Rogers has lost $93 000 000. That's no chump change.
- darkane, on 07/03/2008, -1/+4Except that Rogers already knows that all the people bitching about it are going to pay for it anyways. That's why the prices are so high to begin with.
- NavS, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2I am definitely not going to buy it. I have a plan with Telus that comes to a grand total of $50.
- phphreak, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1Does the device compare in the slightest to the iPhone?
- max420, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2Just because the iPhone itself is an expensive device, doesn't mean the plan has to be.
- darkane, on 07/03/2008, -1/+4Except that Rogers already knows that all the people bitching about it are going to pay for it anyways. That's why the prices are so high to begin with.
- elfuego, on 07/02/2008, -1/+44Dugg... Bell offers $30/month unlimited data. Telus offers $30/month unlimited data. Just about every carrier in the civilized world, iPhone or not, offers $30/month unlimited data. Rogers thinks they can buck the trend because Steve made a pretty phone which only Rogers can sell.
Rogers is about to learn a hard lesson in how much Canadians love comparison shopping.- MrTRiX, on 07/03/2008, -2/+2Unlimited E-Mail Unlimited Data
Unlimited Browsing Unlimited Data
All CDN mobile providers suck, Rogers is just King. - phphreak, on 07/04/2008, -1/+2I've tried web browsing on non-iPhone Telus and Bell devices and they simply DO NOT compare to the iPhone Safari browser. $30 unlimited data on a crappy device is not worth $3 a month.
- bawpcwpn, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1Not even Vodafone in Australia nor 3 offers unlimited data to Australians.
- oderdigg, on 07/04/2008, -1/+1You're comparing apples to oranges.
Telus / Bell = CDMA max speed 300 Kbps
Rogers = GSM / HSDPA. max speed 300 / 1500 Kbps
Ask Telus when are they going to have 1.5 MB speeds on a wireless device and you'll get laughed at.- Yarnage, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1Sprint has EVDO-Rev A (faster than both of those speeds) and I get unlimited with that for $15 a month. His comparison is fine and I'd go further saying $30 is a rip.
- MrTRiX, on 07/03/2008, -2/+2Unlimited E-Mail Unlimited Data
- thehype2049, on 07/02/2008, -7/+30its actually making headline news in papers and on tv. Go Canada. We don't take ***** from our Big Corporations. FYI Rogers has about a 80-90% monopoly over the cell phone market here.
- sum33t, on 07/03/2008, -1/+9What're you talking about, we do take ***** from our big corporations. Compare anything in canada to the rest of the world, we have out dated ***** and its over priced. Everything is over priced here
- vw2005, on 07/04/2008, -2/+4.... and they don't have an 80-90% market share either.
try 30%...... 40 is pushing it. - oderdigg, on 07/04/2008, -3/+1No kidding, this guy is full of *****. There is no monopoly in Canada with regards to phones anymore. You could argue that Rogers has a monopoly on GSM in Canada but that's only because Telus and Bell are holding on to very old equipment.
- brewno2k, on 07/03/2008, -1/+5Fire this Liz Hamilton. Consumers are not imbeciles. We know what we want, and what we want is unlimited data for 30$. And at least 250 min base plan. And no hidden fees.
That's not a lot to ask, just see all the other iPhone carriers, starting with our neighbors in the south.- willynilly, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1What? If anything, this should be extended to the U.S. We need a world-wide backlash to the offensive, pathetic rip-off that this entire iPhone rollout has become.
- VCAT, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2That PR rep is so annoying. "we offer high value..blah blah." & "There seems to be confusion in the marketplace" or the best one yet: "We can't offer unlimited because if we did [our greedy asses] would have to raise rates for everyone else" - which is ofcourse true but highlights all too well the real problem: their monopolistic greed is CAST IN STONE.
What a condescending bitch.- Gutterpunk, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1It's not Rogers' fault IT'S ALL YOUR!
sign my petition at ruinedvcat.com and notovcat.com!

- Yarnage, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1I would disagree. Concumers are typically imbeciles. Work in retail for a year and you'll understand.
- vancanucksfan, on 07/03/2008, -9/+4i bet you not even %10 of those people are canadians. this petition has been posted everywhere on the net.
Also, you dont have to sign up for these iphone plans. You can use your pre existing plans, both for voice and data. $30 for 300mb is enough for a lot of people, and im sure most customers will use this plan. Theres $50 for 500mb, or 60$ for 1GB. Fact is, the people who wanted this phone as still going to get it regardless. They will just use the internet not as much as say, if there was an unlimited internet connection. Petitions do nothing. Not buying the product will. Unfortunately, the iphone is going to sell well here, even if the data plans were $100 for 20 megs. This gives rogers no reason to slash the prices of data.
By the way, im making absolutely no excuses for rogers. I dropped them long ago and went with Telus. I actually get $30 unlimited data and a good voice plan.- alpha88, on 07/03/2008, -0/+5"Fact is, the people who wanted this phone as still going to get it regardless."
Oh yeah? Really? It's a fact? Where'd you get your statistics asshat? I wanted the iPhone. I would have even payed their outrageous prices. But they don't have a single plan with unlimited data, so I will not buy it.
They are going to lose business big time.
Also, I would go with Telus too if they had GSM coverage, but instead we're stuck with this monopoly. Frig.- ChillyEli, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1I also wanted the iPhone. I was not going to use an unlimited data plan as 3G is not available in my area (try to download over 2G on 56k speeds using a phone).
But if they were to even throw in Caller ID into the iPhone package too or even shift the data packages down one slot so that where the 1G is not 2G and the 2G is now unlimited, I would be happy.
I may still buy the phone, but not right away. I may wait a year or something till either a price drop occurs or to see if I get 3G up where I live. If not Bell has some very tempting offers with $7.00 and an HTC Touch
- ChillyEli, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1I also wanted the iPhone. I was not going to use an unlimited data plan as 3G is not available in my area (try to download over 2G on 56k speeds using a phone).
- Blax, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3vancanucksfan: While not everyone is a Canadian, I doubt it's only 10%. Probably more in the 60-70% range, if not more.
I'm with alpha88 on this. I intended to buy the iPhone 3G, but at these prices there isn't a chance in hell. I'm sorry Rogers, you let me down. I even got a job at a "Rogers Authorized Dealer" to help show off the features of/sell the iPhone, but now I feel horrible that I would be sticking people with such awful plans...
And alpha88, Telus wants to roll out a GSM network for the 2010 Olympics, at least here in Vancouver, so hopefully that will happen. And the spectrum auction should also bring in a couple of new nationwide players in the coming years. - YacozA, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1i'm also in the "intended to buy segment", however until i can get a cheap plan, or get the corporate to pay for an iPhone,
i'll keep my money in my bank account
- alpha88, on 07/03/2008, -0/+5"Fact is, the people who wanted this phone as still going to get it regardless."
- willynilly, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3Another problem with outrages like this is that, as the backlash around the world grows, the market for iPhone apps is shrinking. Thus there is less incentive for developers to create them, and (if they require others to have an iPhone) the apps are less useful.
- shiftyroach, on 07/03/2008, -7/+1i think 27,032 is the number of people that will get an iPhone in canada and sign up for the plan. i agree with vancanucksfan, 300mb is quite a bit of data for $30.
everyone seems to overlook the fact that you also get free UNLIMITED wifi at any rogers hotspot across canada.
all you starbucks haters: how often are you NOT near a starbucks? free hotspot. much faster than edge or 3G speeds.- NavS, on 07/03/2008, -1/+2Theres way more Tim Hortons than starbucks, and I've never been around their wifi spots.
- StayPuft21, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Are there maps available showing hotspot locations? It seems like a bit of a farce to rely on these to save a few bucks on a ***** plan. Rogers knows this and loves it when silly consumer like yourself playinto their hand by trumpeting the utility of a ***** hotspot that no one knows exists (outside of a Starbucks-area WiFi).
- phphreak, on 07/04/2008, -1/+1So if I'm sitting in the break room at my workplace, with no-wifi and 30 minutes to kill, hotspots help me how?
- 10001110101, on 07/03/2008, -0/+6Mmm... I think the kids that work at Rogers Video would get pissy if I started hanging out in the store all the time.
Honestly, I had never heard of the "rogers hotspot" until I read that article.- vw2005, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1hmmm lemme surf the web while I pick up "physical" medias ...
... if Rogers put as much effort into improving their Data networks, they wouldn't need archaic video stores and can provide decent movies over their networks.
- vw2005, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1hmmm lemme surf the web while I pick up "physical" medias ...
- TomK88, on 07/03/2008, -2/+12I'm not going to sign this petition. Why would I? I'll vote with my wallet.
- davecachia, on 07/03/2008, -2/+5Its just simple.. No one can survive on 150 minutes a month. For $60/mo I better get unlimited everything.
- phphreak, on 07/04/2008, -1/+4This is a little unreasonable, considering no one in the world gets this for $60.
- Yarnage, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1phpfreak, dave's $60 is very reasonable. With Sprint and a Sero plan I can get unlimited everything (except minutes; round 450 or so) for less than $60.
Phone companies make a _huge_ amount of money with their plans. If they wanted to, they could all release $60 plans with unlimited everything and all of them would still make money. The problem is it isn't enough money for them.
- Yarnage, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1phpfreak, dave's $60 is very reasonable. With Sprint and a Sero plan I can get unlimited everything (except minutes; round 450 or so) for less than $60.

- SenorChach, on 07/03/2008, -7/+2You bunch of crybabies. Why hasn't anyone complained about this before, Rogers has been shafting everyone who does not own a crackberry but would like data on their phone for YEARS. But now that there is an IPhone in Canada.... OMG IPHONE FAP FAP FAP...... it matters. Vote with your wallet. Go Telus/Bell for cheapo (albeit CDMA 3G) data, or wait till June for a completely new carrier (hopefully GSM) to come.
- hobbit, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2Actually Rogers was the first to carry RIM products, of all the Canadian providers they have the closest partnership with RIM. Not surprisingly, Rogers' Blackberry plans are lower than those of other providers but also lower than the iPhone. Why do these two smart-phone products have different price points in their respective plans?
"Crybabies" or not, the points being made are valid, Rogers Communications Inc. is screwing the Canadian cellphone marketplace. Due to the GSM monopoly Rogers has in Canada the only thing people can to is not buy their product. The iPhone IS the best smart-phone in the marketplace currently so it is acting as a catalyst for this complaint against Rogers.
- hobbit, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2Actually Rogers was the first to carry RIM products, of all the Canadian providers they have the closest partnership with RIM. - yearofmark, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1I feel sad because I know a lot of people are really ticked off with this situation. I hope Rogers can look past the "Profits" they think they will get by doing this, and see they can make more money by making people happy and creating a community. Its just old world mentality of the "Mens Club" that just pisses me off.
- AchaIemoipas, on 07/03/2008, -6/+0Serves you right for buying that stupid ***** product, knowing full well what the service offer and restrictions are.
And your petition serves absolutely no purpose. It's a private company with a proprietary deal, they don't even have to acknowledge your existence and you chose to not have the right to an alternative. - Jadey, on 07/03/2008, -1/+3Maybe I'm used to getting screwed by Canadian mobile providers so I'm hopelessly cynical about them, but my knee-jerk reaction to this petition is: this will change absolutely nothing.
- Seidoger, on 07/03/2008, -0/+11From the site:
"Breaking News:
Oilchange.com has acquired ruinediphone.com.
Oilchange.com is going to do their part to help Canadian cell phone users.
Check back frequently for updates."
What the ***** is that?
Abrupt credibility drop for the win....- derekivey, on 07/04/2008, -0/+3Looks like someone just made some money off of everyone's signatures...
- Yarnage, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1Just think. Over 30,000 people have put their name and e-mail address into this website. That's a spammer's goldmine! OilChange appears to be some *****-tastic company that does SEO so I wouldn't be surprised to see ads and other crap appearing on the website.
The original owner of ruinediphone.com must not have really cared about the situation, heh.
- MAGZine, on 07/04/2008, -0/+6Over 32k now.
Holy moly. - phphreak, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1While these plans are criminally overpriced, the real question that I would like answered is: how much data will the average iPhone 3g user actually use in a month. On my unlocked iPhone (not 3g), the most I've ever used was approaching 300 mb. Does this mean I will use 900 mb on the new phone?!?
- rytr23, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1I routinely exceed 1GB per month on my current iphone without 3g. 300 MB is a piddling amount.. A joke really. Rogers execs should be summarily canned for poor management. 60$ for 1GB? That's an insult.
- knopper67, on 07/04/2008, -1/+3Correction: 32,378 people say no to Rogers.
- pradaaddict, on 07/04/2008, -0/+4Well 32,000 signatures, MSM coverage, lots of internet rage but Rogers is still sticking to their guns. You gotta hand it to them, they sure know how to stick to their *****.
- AZRoboto, on 07/04/2008, -0/+11Over 550 diggs, it's an online petition about the iPhone, and it's still not popular? WTF?
- MavRevMatt, on 07/04/2008, -2/+1This is great but I don't see how it will do anything. Rogers obviously doesn't give a ***** about their customers, so what can you change?
- RSterkenburg, on 07/04/2008, -1/+1Well, if they HAD no customers, obviously something would HAVE to change. Now that's obviously not going to happen, but there's, what, 35000 signatures now? That's pretty significant. 0.1% of Canada's population right there, which is huge when you look at the percentage of Canadians who are Rogers customers.
- MavRevMatt, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1What I'm saying isn't that that amount of people is important but rather a petition won't change anything. Boycotting them will surely have an effect of course, but then the petition is useless.
- RSterkenburg, on 07/04/2008, -1/+1Well, if they HAD no customers, obviously something would HAVE to change. Now that's obviously not going to happen, but there's, what, 35000 signatures now? - vw2005, on 07/04/2008, -0/+4Between traffic shapping/throttling, lousy cell phone rate plans, and now this .... I'm glad I don't feed a single penny into the Rogers coffers.
I suggest everyone 'diversify' their communication/entertainment consumption to spur more competition .... who cares about 'Rogers One Bill'? .. Pay 3 or 4 to different companies so a situation like THIS doesn't happen again! - paulsabo, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1I just hope the majority of them are Canadian...
- eltardo, on 07/04/2008, -1/+3Guess what? Rogers STILL doesn't care. They're still going to ***** you if you sign up. Your petition doesn't mean *****. I wish it did, I hate Rogers as much as the next person.
- RSterkenburg, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1Any petition can mean a lot if it gets enough genuine signatures.
- grant1080, on 07/04/2008, -1/+3Sadly, Rogers isn't going to do a damn thing about their ***** data rates until there is more competition. They have a responsibility to the shareholders!
- dizavin, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2I absolutely hate our cellphone plans here in Canada. you can get better plans in a 3rd world country.
I refuse to use a cellphone, outright. the iPhone was attractive enough to get me interested about cell's again... but alas, the plan is the same old story. I'll pass. - ScottyDontKnow, on 07/04/2008, -1/+2I wonder if RIM put pressure on Rogers for the iPhone Data plans. Because the Blackberry plans are half as much s the iphone plans and they do the same things for data. the bold has a full browser... why is it cheaper?
thoughts on my conspiracy theory ?- Gutterpunk, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2Yeah that is what everyone was saying when Rogers dropped the Sidekick in Canada to replace it by a BB Connect device. Say what you want about the Sidekicks, but Rogers promptly dropped the BB device it replaced it because no one wanted that crap.
I don't think that RIM has nothing to do with it. Rogers are just full of crap. - grant1080, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1RIM has publicly stated that they want lower data rates from Rogers to further their market penetration. They've also seen the iPhone increase RIM sales as its helping the entire smartphone market. Rogers is simply charging rates as high as they think they can for maximum profit, that's all!
