Apple working on "iPhone server" for restaurants, merchants?

appleinsider.com — The concept calls for a short-range wireless network comprised of a central server and wireless routers that merchants or attraction organizers could install in their venues. On the central server would be a proprietary software-based application capable of interfacing and serving up customized information and applications to iPhones and iPods.

I mean, would Apple not implement something like this just because it were not patentable? This kind of obvious patents stifle innovation, not encourage it.
  • dssstrkl, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2I doubt that this patent could really be enforceable, especially since people have been thinking about this exact application for the iphone since it was announced. Roughly Drafted had a couple of articles about this last year.
