Danish Police Befuddled by 1G iMac
macobserver.com — The police wanted to confiscate the author's computer. When the author's roommate agreed to also let the police look at her first generation iMac, they were frustrated because they thought the iMac was just the screen. They wanted to know where the actual computer was and got rather heated about finding it.

As for the story, whoop whoop for non-tech savvy police. I'm sure it BLEW THEIR MINDS when they realised they were looking at the computer. Oh man, what news worthy material. Truly, it is so fantastically hilarious I almost expect this digg to be a script for an episode of According to Jim. I will definately be digging this *****!

I don't understand why would anyone believe this story. - jonshipman, on 02/07/2008, -1/+1Their heads asplode?
- Winston84, on 02/07/2008, -1/+2I'm surprised they didn't just tell him to shut the ***** up when he asked to see the badge .
That's what they say when I ask them, Fogh's little brownshirts .. - rowlodge, on 02/07/2008, -1/+4thats one of the first apple computers i ever bought ,put some extra memory in it too.

- Orng, on 02/07/2008, -0/+8I have family working in IT who report, among other things, that sometimes when people are asked to restart their desktop computer, they turn off the monitor. Or they try to press the big round Dell logo as if it's a button. Makes you wonder how they turned the computer on the first time, and if it's been running the whole time they worked there.
It's all part of a greater ongoing rant that the computer is a tool they need to do their job, why the heck don't they know how to use it??!?- bbqsalad, on 02/07/2008, -0/+3some people also use the cd drives as cup holders. Or think opening a new ie window is actually using another internet.
- Spankov, on 02/07/2008, -3/+2Oh how comical. You mean there are actually people that didn't go to college/university and study IT yet still use computers??? What are these dolts thinking of? It's like people owning a car and not knowing it's every nut and bolt, how it fits together and how to fix any problem that might occur.
- Cyberbladewolf, on 02/07/2008, -0/+1Your comparison is inaccurate. It is like people owning and driving a car without a drivers license. I don't need to know how the car goes together to drive it, nor do I need to know how everything in the computer works to use it.
- darkphenox, on 02/07/2008, -0/+3The way he described it is a person who owns a car and dose not know how to turn it on, or thinks that the radio tuning knob is the steering wheel.
- Orng, on 02/07/2008, -0/+1If it is a tool of your job, you should have certain basic operators skills. You, on the other hand, are just a tool.
If you worked in a deli and had to use the meat slicer every day, I would expect you to know how to turn on the meat slicer and adjust the blade.
If you were a photographer, I would have certain moderate expectations of your ability to change the lenses and adjust the aperture.
And if you work in customer service sitting in front of a computer all day long, nobody should have to explain to you how to shut the computer off, how to drag and drop, and how to change the signature on your email.
So tell me, when you accidentally open something in a second tab in internet explorer, do you throw your hands in the air and go "Aah! Something is different!" and then cry for IT/Tech support/Mommy to come and fix it? If you do, then you are one of the people I'm talking about, and you're an idiot.
- feshmania, on 02/07/2008, -0/+3i honestly, no joke, have a bit of a headache after trying to comprehend that...
- leffunov, on 02/07/2008, -4/+4NOT 1G more like 3G, because I have the first gen and it was cathode ray not the LCD sexyness
- Lapdog1123, on 02/07/2008, -0/+4I don't think that was the actual picture of the MAC.
- Spankov, on 02/07/2008, -4/+16What they actually said was "That's the computer??? That piece of *****???"
- InfamousAtheist, on 02/07/2008, -1/+2FTA: "Danish swear words aren't as satisfying"
lulz - HanSolo69, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2Man, what a great excerpt from a novel.
- techsmack, on 02/07/2008, -0/+6These are just police officers, and its not limited to Danish folk. Just imagine what all the 50-70yr old judges think when hearing a court case dealing with technology. Thats why people either get off when they shouldn't, or get prosecuted when they shouldn't. No one knows how the stuff works. I got raped on WoW.
- vofuse, on 02/07/2008, -0/+5I guess Danish police officers don't hang around coffee shops and art studios.
- sputnike, on 02/07/2008, -0/+16Scotty into Mouse: "Hello Computer"
- friarcrazy, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2"Keyboard, how quaint."
- Aaronraw, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2Dugg for the befuddled Danish
- ryancxx, on 02/07/2008, -0/+4Mmmm...befuddled danish
- redwallhp, on 02/07/2008, -0/+8'The police were also very confused about how a neighbor could log onto their open, wireless network. "The internet doesn't work that way," was the officer's response.' WTH?
- Ganja420, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2Where are the tubes!!!!
- hilo4321, on 02/07/2008, -0/+1got your quotes switched, although i commend you for trying a lot harder than most
- andritchie, on 02/07/2008, -0/+5I'd like to see them deal with a more recent model.
- cmuwriter, on 02/07/2008, -0/+2Replace the Danish police with police from Georgia police and you'll have the same problem.
- garfonzo, on 02/07/2008, -0/+8"Right there. The blue object the size of an armadillo."
ha! - Prepressology, on 02/07/2008, -0/+1Ha! I have had several people react to my iMac here at work the same way. Takes a second for it to sink in. Got to love clueless people when it comes to technology.
