- OddyOh, on 07/04/2008, -3/+60The flaw in all this media coverage is that they never talk about how Rogers is the only GSM network in Canada. We're always told "well just don't get the iPhone at Rogers"...sigh, if only we had a choice! I won't be getting one.
- jumanji69, on 07/05/2008, -0/+15Media stories are also failing to point out that we have ridiculous System Access, and 911 fees that add about 8$ a month more to all of our plans. So the $60 plan really is a $68 plan.
- orgazmo, on 07/05/2008, -0/+16And it doesn't even include CallerID... A 68$ dollar plan, in 2008, that doesn't include CallerID
Bravo Rogers - mizike, on 07/05/2008, -0/+6The system access fee shows just how broken the Canadian cellphone market is. The telecom companies are so crooked that they were flat out lying to the public telling them that the system access fee was levied by the government, whereas in reality, none of it goes to the government. The CRTC had to go so far as to make it a condition of a telecom provider's license that they can no longer lie to the consumer and blame the fee on the government. Of course what they should have done is tell them to either stop charging the damm fee or roll it into the price of plans, so the customer knows up front what they'll be charged instead of having to wait for their first bill to see the extent of the gouging...
For what it's worth, i'm pretty sure all pay-as-you-go plans don't have a system access fee (my virgin phone certainly doesn't). I'm currently on a pay as you go plan as I don't want to commit to a three year contract and deal with ***** like the arbitrary $7 fee they feel like assessing every month. Also I was on fido a couple of years ago (pre-rogers), I canceled my contract as I was leaving the country for over a year, paid a $200 ETF for the privilege of doing so, and then mysteriously my final month's bill was more than 2x higher than any bill I had had with them previously; greedy *****.
- orgazmo, on 07/05/2008, -0/+16And it doesn't even include CallerID... A 68$ dollar plan, in 2008, that doesn't include CallerID
- Inspiron700m, on 07/05/2008, -0/+8Ted Chernecki told us the 6pm slot didn't allow enough time to air everything...especially the "monopoly" part that we talked about in the interviews. So it was a case of not enough time, but it's a start to send a message to Rogers!!!
http://www.iphoneincanada.ca/iphone-news/global-tv ... - ABadPerson, on 07/05/2008, -0/+13***** Rogers!
- loconet, on 07/05/2008, -1/+2and Apple for not putting pressure on Rogers.
- loconet, on 07/05/2008, -0/+7They are not saying don't get it "at Rogers". They said, don't get it at all which IMO is the best choice.
- Rossoneri22, on 07/05/2008, -6/+1quit your bitching, in the states we can only get it through AT&T.
- schrutefan, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2Yeah but even if we got an unlocked one, our other GSM provider is Fido... which is owned by Rogers.
- kelowna4life, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1Yeah, They are also failing to point out that while telus and bell offer unlimited data, their networks are slower than the 3g network ("rogers vision") that you use when you are on the iphone.
- jumanji69, on 07/05/2008, -0/+15Media stories are also failing to point out that we have ridiculous System Access, and 911 fees that add about 8$ a month more to all of our plans. So the $60 plan really is a $68 plan.
- Koree, on 07/04/2008, -0/+21I have wanted this phone since it came out last year, but always thought 'how much' to actually have it and get all the features they talk about, well Rogers you have just made me lose that desire, will be watching for a while longer.....
- VCAT, on 07/04/2008, -0/+25I just cancelled my Fido month to month cell phone, and my home rogers phone. Going cell-less for now, but switching to Bell for the home phone. I hate Rogers so much.
- manitoba98xp, on 07/05/2008, -0/+5Make sure you tell them why you're leaving them so that they take note of it.
- loconet, on 07/05/2008, -0/+4Regarding Roger's home phone..http://www.loconet.ca/2008/07/02/3g-iphone-plans-a ...
- MikeyTwit, on 07/04/2008, -0/+22My Bell Mobility contract was just about up and I was going to switch to Rogers for the iPhone, but then their rate plan was released and I just renewed another 3 years with Bell at a pretty damn good rate for the features I have. Your loss Rogers
- dhughes, on 07/05/2008, -0/+6 My three year contract was up at the end of May and I am never ever getting a three year contract again no matter who it is with, it's far too long.
I was thinking of going with Rogers too, because they are GSM, but not for the iPhone since I don't give a crap about it, I was thinking an N95 or something similar. I thought people were going to jump all over the iPhone and the other phones would drop in price.
Now I'm stuck with Bell at month to month. I tried to find some info on phones but Bell's website looks like it was a high school computer class project. - djepik, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2Make that two losses. *Exact* same situation here.
- assbeard, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1ditto here too... actually, i have 1 year left on my bell contract and I was going to cancel it for the iphone... I'm now considering taking a look at the Samsung Instinct which Bell plans to offer in August. the HTC touch diamond looks interesting too, or even the blackberry thunder if and when it comes out.
I really like the iphone, but i dunno if I want to subject myself to the insanity that is Ted Rogers and his brood.
- dhughes, on 07/05/2008, -0/+6 My three year contract was up at the end of May and I am never ever getting a three year contract again no matter who it is with, it's far too long.

- a1cd, on 07/04/2008, -0/+12Good on Global for showing this stuff, hopefully it can get out and people can get informed about this crap and help the people who dont understand how these plans work.
- Emachine, on 07/04/2008, -1/+11$115 for 2GB in 3G OR $30 (+ $20-$30 voice plan) for UNLIMITED Data on non 3G network...
Hmm, I think I can wait 5 more seconds for a page to load, than to be mugged by Ted Rogers.- loconet, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1where exactly would you get Unlimited Data plan in Canada? And no, Bell's new data plan is not unlimited DATA. It's unlimited "web browsing" - very different.
- spiralspirit, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1telus.
I caught the unlimited data back in february - so i only pay $15/m for unlimited data. - Trichomonas, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1I have the HTC Touch from Bell and only pay $7 for unlimited data (not just web browsing). There was a window of time that you could get this deal but I'm not sure if they still offer it.
- spiralspirit, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1telus.

- bigbchew, on 07/05/2008, -0/+9I want the SkyDome back.
- affanjam, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1I was pretty bent when they changed the name, "SkyDome" > "Rogers Center"
- grant1080, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1Ditto, to bigbchew, and Funpolice
- bigbchew, on 07/05/2008, -0/+9I want the SkyDome back.
- jako45, on 07/04/2008, -1/+7I'm quite sure that even Ted Rogers will be able to do the math of (at last count) 33,000 people signing a petition objecting to his companies pricing plans and customer service policies is a potential customer loss of 33,000
- ZimbuTheMonkey, on 07/05/2008, -3/+3Why don't you people ever mention the potential profit gain from keeping the plans as pricey as they currently are?
You don't have access to the company's finance reports and projections, so don't make clueless remarks. - HumanRecalled, on 07/05/2008, -5/+033, 000 people with retarded plans that could be up to as far as 1000 dollars a year or more is more than 33,000 loss rehab !!
example 12 months x 1000 $ a month = 12, 000 =
12,000 a year total each paying person! x 33, 000 paying customers forking out that amount = 396,000,000 moron !!
See thats how math works !!- Abatrour, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1The question is do YOU see how math works?
- jboettcher, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1Ok.. base rate is $60 a month right? So IF you're going to do the math, might as well use the base rate.
$60 / month x 12 = $720 /yr per customer.
36,206 x $720 = $26,068,320 / yr
On a three year contract, that is potentially $78,204,960 in revenue. The 36,206 figure is up to the minute on RuinediPhone.com.
Not sure why I just did this. It feels useless.
- ZimbuTheMonkey, on 07/05/2008, -3/+3Why don't you people ever mention the potential profit gain from keeping the plans as pricey as they currently are?
- xero9, on 07/04/2008, -11/+4Is anyone else surprised that Global did this despite the fact that it's owned by Rogers Media?
- Diggrock, on 07/04/2008, -0/+16actually, global TV is owned by the Canwest corporation, which is not affiliated with rogers.
- str3ama, on 07/04/2008, -1/+22The biggest problem for Canada is that there entire market is being consumed by Media Imperialists. Entering Toronto you realize that the city is carved up between Bell and Rogers, with even buildings being owned or licensed by either of the companies. The Sky Dome where their local Blue Jays and music venues are held is now the Rogers Centre. In America we have quite the same problem, but even with the little that has been done by our government we're still not in as bad shape as Canada, who's government has done next to nothing to regulate the level at which these companies are allowed to buy other media outlets out.
- aidave, on 07/05/2008, -1/+2Thank the Conservatives (and Liberals) for our new corporate state.

- mizike, on 07/05/2008, -1/+3I don't really have any love for global but comparing them to fox news is insane
- kentifer, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2The only news i can't stand is City TV in Canada. (Formerly A-Channel)

I'll stick with my Sony Ericsson S700i despite its age and size. - moo113, on 07/05/2008, -0/+7Look into the HTC Touch Diamond (3G, Touch, Wifi) and the Samsung Instinct instead of the Rogers iPhone. ***** you, Rogers.
- loconet, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2and where do I get my unlimited data plan from (in Canada)? People don't realize that the problem is much bigger than just the Iphone + Rogers. It's the whole Canadian mobile industry that needs a big shake.

- BluesFan, on 07/05/2008, -0/+4Aren't they coming out with a cheap alternative to the iphone? that's just as good? if they are everyone should go for it switch to bell.
- akula89, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3Bell is terrible. Look into Virgin Mobile.
- BluesFan, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2Virgin mobile it is then...anything to stick it to rogers!
- jboettcher, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1I'm on Bell now... I get crappy reception in my own house, but I'm not sure if it is the phone or the carrier.
Still, the other carriers would be smart to take advantage of this Rogers thing and offer some stupidly cheap discount for one of their better phones. I bet they could pickup a butt load of new 3 year contracts out of the deal just b/c people are pissed off at Rogers.
- akula89, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3Bell is terrible. Look into Virgin Mobile.
- DeFex, on 07/05/2008, -7/+1Global is owned by bell they are bound to give a bad review this is what happens when the providers of the service are also creating the content
City is owned by rogers. i doubt you will see any negative coverage there.- rdolishny, on 07/05/2008, -0/+6Would everyone please get your facts straight. There is a connection between CTV and Bell, Canwest owns Global.
- aaryn, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3Rogers does not care about petitions or customers, only profits, the only way to make a change is to not buy it. They will come around when they see below average sales for the iPhone.
- thecockbanana, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1I really wish and hope for people not to buy but I fear most people will not be able to hold out (or at least enough people for Rogers to notice)
- glimp7, on 07/05/2008, -0/+9"High value bundles"?! Maybe when you compare them to walking stick.
- DeFex, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3what do you need all that crap for on a phone. its just another way to suck you for money. and force you to pay for content thats free.
- AchaIemoipas, on 07/05/2008, -0/+0Yeah but it's got electrolytes. It's what humans crave.
It's overconsumerism. They can't even blame the stupid product or the company that made the deal with Roger's because that would insult their little plastic phone and their little idol who is the one screwing them over in the first place.
Look at two posts down, calls Rogers a "tyrannical monopolistic company." It's one of dozens of cell phone service providers in Canada. Apple decided to give them a proprietary deal, which probably comes with market info and phone numbers and email addresses for marketing purposes. But they can't possibly blame their idol for that.
- AchaIemoipas, on 07/05/2008, -0/+0Yeah but it's got electrolytes. It's what humans crave.
- kd420, on 07/05/2008, -1/+30Don't even try to compare Global to Fox. Global may be biased, but never have i seen some of the ***** up crap they pass as news on Fox.
- fudged71, on 07/05/2008, -0/+4Global is fine. I agree. Hardly any bias.
- quakken, on 07/05/2008, -1/+4"Terrorist fist jab? We'll see."
-Fox news, on obama raising his fist above his head.
Fair and balanced. Yeah.
- rawkaphella, on 07/05/2008, -0/+5Having wanted to get an iPhone and looking into the plans in Canada I've come to realize one thing.... Rogers is a tyrannical monopolistic company. Secondly I found out that there are going to be new Rogers competitors in about a years time on a GSM network. Rogers is Hell bent on getting customers locked into lengthy contracts and snatch up as much cash as it can before the competition starts. The sad part is, Rogers is using the hottest piece of technology right now, the iPhone to achieve it's goals. Rogers will tell you it's great strategic planning. I'll tell you that it's just hosing the customer.
- mizike, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1I hate to be too much of a cynic, but Bell / Rogers / Telus have a pretty good track record when it comes to either buying out or simply undercutting and obliterating the competition. Last time spectrum was given to "new entrants" in the market, they had all either gone under or been bought up within three years (see fido).
- jboettcher, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1No... it's strategically hosing the customer.
- moosepile, on 07/05/2008, -2/+8As much as a boycott sounds nifty, I can't see it happening. The guy in the story who commented on people getting the base plan and then getting big bills is probably more correct.
A boycott will fail because John Q iPublic doesn't understand what 400MB is in relation to a mobile device. In fact, all the Jon Q iPublics are probably on omgiphonecanada.ca right now, commenting "YES! $10 bucks CHEAPER than AT&T! What's this data plan *****? OMG I'm gittin in iPhone."
I would argue, based on nothing but viewing a friends cracked iPhone, that 750MB is probably likely use for day to day use of cool features, and once it's 3G that can only grow due to even better use of the network. I base that on checking email auto every 5, etc.
Oh, and Kristi Gordon is the best looking weather anchor I've ever seen. But I miss BCTV.- HotGore, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1BCTV was awesome!
- CountSessine, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1Actually, I think you've got it backwards. Data plans have always been unpopular with non-business types in Canada because people know exactly how expensive $0.05/kB is (for you Americans, that's what Rogers charges you in overages if you exceed your data allowance).
If anything, most people are going to see the 400MB monthly limit and think of their limewire account or the size of their iPod or a flash card and think, "Damn! That's nothing at all! That's really expensive!"- moosepile, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1The Data Plan is what really going to hit the iPhoneEh user. Business will flock to it briefly, then go all Blackberry-happy again. It will become a cost scapegoat for business, and an elitist toy for consumers, who find themselves *****, 'cause they can't use it like it was intended. Without paying.
Unfortunately, many will think "400MB? *****, my HD was half that size a few years ago" and have no clue about mobile use.
Sheeple will configure their iPhones to check email every 5 minutes, and they will use Safari to surf "real world" websites en masse, and they will easily reach 1GB/mo.
It doesn't matter though, it'll be too late. Contracts are a bitch.

- macerroneous, on 07/05/2008, -0/+0I use my iphone data HEAVILY. I've never been able to top 200MB.
- rdolishny, on 07/05/2008, -4/+3That reports wasn't quite accurate. It's not $60 it's far more including caller ID and the extra fees. Someone did the math but it's well over $80 out of the gate at minimum.
But people, the US rates aren't THAT much cheaper. I think it's $65/m, sure unlimited data, but reports are that the average user is using just over 100M.
Friends of mine with iPhones generally wait for a WiFi signal for things like Youtube becuase it's faster than even G3. And WiFi is free.- lukehh, on 07/05/2008, -0/+4100MB number is on EDGE, which is like comparing dialup to broadband. And that comparison doens't include the app store stuf fyou'll be downloading and using. OR Maps that use GPS. OR Push email.
100MB is gone in like 20 minutes of youtube. that's 40s a day per month.
And wifi isn't free. unless you're hanging out at a Rogers store, or at home.
Rogers' is eating the pooch.- iChopPryde, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1exactly think about it this way the average youtube video on the iphone is between 15 - 30 MB with 3G you will be able to view these videos instatnly like you do on wifi so people will be watching youtube no problem vs edge which is very slow. the 400mb cap is garbage, then think about checking the weather, surfing the net, using GPS and maps, using the appstore and whatever services from the appstore that will use internet as well that will be blown away in no time! Oh ya forgot about checking mail too and push messenger and mail the list just goes on! unlimited internet is a must for this phone!
- Justin6512, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1what the hell is "G3?"
and your friends don't have very good data plans which is why they would prefer to wait for wifi signals.
if you are in a 3G service area the speeds are quite close to wifi speeds, so it would be nice to have unlimited data, and not have to worry about trying to find a wifi hotspot all the time.
- lukehh, on 07/05/2008, -0/+4100MB number is on EDGE, which is like comparing dialup to broadband. And that comparison doens't include the app store stuf fyou'll be downloading and using. OR Maps that use GPS. OR Push email.
- mHtt, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3After a week with Roger's customer service re: a 700$ disconnection, it was revealed that I was owed 830$ worth of credits. I was without internet, emergency telephone service, and tv for over a week.
The problem was the difficulty in finding a customer service representative who could do simple math -700+830 equals a credit of 130$ (I'll scan my bills and toss em on line if anyone doubts me)
In my opinion they attempted to extort 700$ from me, by withdrawing my legitimately paid-for services.
As a Canadian I feel a nationalized telecommunications system would help bring our vast distances closer, and prevent Roger's and other privately owned organizations from manipulating arguably a vital cornerstone of a functioning democracy, that is a legitimate access to information and communications.- moosepile, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3Couldn't agree more.
Call me a Canadian socialist pig-dog if you like, but a public communications infrastructure is preferable to me ONLY for the following reasons:
- Unlike the US, we don't have the population to maintain healthy competition in the market, which would be preferable. Instead, our market can only maintain an duopoly disguised as an oligopoly, both of which hold us hostage.
- Yes, publicly funded and govt. managed services are poorly managed money pits for the taxpayer. But I'm finding it hard to find a reason that a national wireless network is any worse than the current situation. Hell, like the above post, a national Communications system. Internet / Mobile / Voice as a service to the citizens. (I'm sure there actually are a a lot of reasons, like the valid argument that "Universal Healthcare" seems to be a term in direct relation to the age of the universe.) - PrincessSalami, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2Agreed!
What I would hope for is a nationalized Internet and cell phone service...
eg we have fibre to hubs then wifi repeaters and we all share the signal, we all have "high speed Internet" and contract-less unlimited use wifi phones. ***** 10mbit was fast in 1998, but the Internet has changed dramatically since then.
"The average broadband download speed in the US is only 1.9 megabits per second, compared to 61 Mbps in Japan, 45 Mbps in South Korea, 18 Mbps in Sweden, 17 Mpbs in France, and 7 Mbps in Canada, according to the Communication Workers of America. "
Canada GDP: $1.178 trillion
South Korea GDP: $1.196 trillion
sure Canada is way larger with a more dispersed population but we could at least boost the speeds to the major centers
I ***** hate being Canadian for the fact that we are in the stone age technologically and the Government is doing nothing to keep us ahead of the curve and they just bow to corporate interests as seen in bills c-61 and c-51.
At the same time I love not being an American, because you yanks are all ignorant tools
Well not Digg Americans most seem to be cool its just all your neighbours/(every computer illiterate person IN THIS WORLD) THEY ruin it for you by doing things like electing Bush twice (its not like you had any real choice anyways as the same puppet-masters pull the stings anyways ENJOY ALL THAT SPARE CHANGE FROM BARACK)... that was a great idea how do you like our par dollar now/enjoy your recession!
that's not to say we don't have retards in Canada too, most people everywhere could care less about the current tyranny we all live under everywhere.... the would could be a much better place... its just too bad we give all the back scratching greedy SOB's all the power
I want my ***** HD broadband. AND FREEDOM BACK!- MaritimesMan, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2You make me hate Canada... and I'm Canadian.
- jboettcher, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1guys, nationalizing isn't the way to go. You're just going to pay through the roof for it, and then you'll have NO recourse. They'll end up subsidizing it because it is poorly managed. It's not true that our market is too small for good competition, its jus that the fish in our pond have gotten a little too large for good competition. If you want gov't intervention then ask them to break up the current companies. LOL. that will get some people riled up.

- doiveo, on 07/05/2008, -1/+1I have a Bell plan with my Treo that costs $110 a month for 30mb!!
All three are pricing in the "business needs us so let's **** them over" mode.- Brad324, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1my bell cellphone bill has never cost me over $80 in one month, and I have unlimited internet.

- ButlerMonkey, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2The cost of data plans and the lack of options in Canada is the result of what you get when you only have one CDMA network owned by Bell and one GSM network owned by Rogers. I'm just looking forward to sometime in mid August when people start getting their bills and get shocked by the cost of their data usage.
- Viakenny, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2don't forget about TELUS (CDMA).
- ButlerMonkey, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1But I beleive Telus buys access to Bell's CDMA network, atleast in part. I may be wrong with this, or it may no longer be true.
- djdragon, on 07/05/2008, -0/+4Who ever said Global was owned by Bell is wrong. It's owned by Canwest Media, Bell Media owns CTV/MTV Canada.
Anyway you slice it we suck for Telcos up here. - cuevas4711, on 07/05/2008, -1/+17Anyone notice how all the shots of the streets dont have fat people? In the U.S. that's all they show D:
- dhughes, on 07/05/2008, -0/+20 It's because our cell phone bills are so high we can't afford food.
- ButlerMonkey, on 07/05/2008, -0/+6I just re-watched the clip, and is it just me or does that news anchor sound super Canadian? I've been in Australia for about half a year so maybe I'm starting to hear that Canadian accent. And what was with the lady "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore? - who actually says this, she couldn't even keep a straight face.
I actually think this report did more damage to the iPhone's appeal with the people it used in it's story more so then anything regarding the cost of owning one.- bxblox, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3Shes quoting "Network"

- robotmansa, on 07/05/2008, -5/+1No company in Canada has unlimited DATA. Perhaps unlimited "BROWSING" but not general DATA.
The people that wanted to sign up for an iPhone want a plan that is less than $30 bucks. Nobody in the whole world has an iPhone plan less than that. Look at AT&T; their plan is $75 bucks!- bxblox, on 07/05/2008, -1/+2I hope you're being sarcastic, for your sake.
- srossi, on 07/05/2008, -1/+2I have a BlackBerry Pearl on Telus with unlimited data (web, email IM - whatever) for $15, so, yeah, you can get unlimited data plans in Canada.
- loconet, on 07/05/2008, -1/+1It's not unlimited dammit. Telus data plan is limited to the usage of: Email (with approved devices), Instant Messaging, web browsing. That is it.
There is much more to the internet than those things. There is no unlimited data plan in Canada. - spiralspirit, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1loconet - I've had $15 unlimited data from telus for about 7 months. I use it for everything, browsing, email, IM, youtube, googlemaps (my p4000 has gps enabled thanks to sprint). No fees for using non-telus programs, no fees for youtube, etc. $15, unlimited (so far). I think I use 1gb-2gb a month.
- loconet, on 07/05/2008, -1/+1It's not unlimited dammit. Telus data plan is limited to the usage of: Email (with approved devices), Instant Messaging, web browsing. That is it.
- mizike, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1I think you misunderstood; they want to pick a plan, then add $30 for unlimited data. If rogers was offering an identical plan to the one that AT&T is, I think there would be ~20 signatures on the petition, instead of upwards of 30k.
- supermanred, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2I pay 24 dollars a month for my iPhone service. (unlocked) I also get free data at home, at work and pretty much anywhere in Toronto using wifi.
- AndrewWiggin, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1I also live in Toronto and hardly ever find free wifi with my iPhone. I don't know what people are talking about when they seem to find free wifi everywhere.
- Canuck, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1My current voice plan has unlimited incoming calls, 150 minutes free evening weekends, caller id, voice mail, 100 text messages for $65. I want to keep my voice plan and add an unlimited data plane for $20-$30. I would even consider a 2gb data plan for $30 if I can keep my existing voice plan.
- HumanRecalled, on 07/05/2008, -0/+0i payed 25 dollars a month on my HTC Touch and had unlimited texting and unlimited music downloads service ! and free calls to other Bell users and vice a versa !
- diggity_dank, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1What are you talking about? Telus has had an unlimited data for smart phone plan for a while. It's true unlimited data and for $40 includes unlimited text messaging as well.

Cancelling your ***** Rogers contract the next day 170.00
Using your unlocked iPhone on a pay as you go plan (from Rogers or other network) for 24.00 a month... priceless!!!
Sucks you can't get EDGE going, but Ive been using my iPhone in Toronto for 5 months now for 24 a month. There's so many wifi hotspots that it doesnt matter I dont have edge.
By the way people, one podcast download costing you 30.00 with that 400mb capped plan is *****. Don't stay with Rogers.- AndrewWiggin, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2Cancelling a Rogers contract is $400. I'm not sure where you got $170 from, though I think that's approx what it cost to cancel a contract from AT&T so maybe that's what you're thinking (yes, another way Rogers screws us, $400 [max] termination fee).
- loconet, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2actually, if you read the fine print. the 3G Iphone contract with Rogers makes you pay at least $400 for cancellation
- spiralspirit, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1not just that but even if you use it as just a phone you won't have any data services - that ***** sucks!
- lazerflesh, on 07/05/2008, -0/+4***** paying for per byte. The internet companies don't deserve *****.
- dvandewalle, on 07/05/2008, -0/+5have an unlock 1st gen iphone in Canada currently, the current best data plans are 500mb for $80 a month and that doesn't even include voice!!!!!! come the 11th i'll be seeing if i can move to an actual iphone plan, funny but i actually see it as a cost savings!
- jsauter, on 07/06/2008, -0/+0Fido? Do you have them wherever you live? Unlimited data for about $70 a month I believe.
- lefthome, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3Rogers and Bell represent everything that is wrong with Canadian industry. Old men who don't understand technology taking advice from greedy lawyers, accountants and shareholders. We can't move into the future when greed and ignorance hold us back at every turn.
Hopefully people start to realize this and stop paying over $100 for crappy TV, crippled internet, and basic phone service. - HumanRecalled, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3Global News is as Canadian as Maple Syrup and these ***** at ROBBERS wouldn't even give them the tiem of day to rebut or saying anything !! Cause they know they are ***** !
BOYCOTT !! ....35 to 30cents each additional minute over ? and 40 cents for every MB downloaded !! ***** THAT NOISE !
I wonder if a jail broke 2nd gen iphone will the net link up be free ? Cause if it is i recommend everyone get the lowest plan and jail break the ***** out of this ROBBERS IPHONE !! - guitarchitect, on 07/05/2008, -0/+0I've never been happier to be a land-liner. Far as I can tell, for my non-phone-using ways, $20/month for a landline is a great deal compared to some of the "deals" out there for cell phones (not to mention the quality of the calls)
- DragonForce4, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1might this mean...
some people will have to buy an iPod Touch!!

- blacklilyninja, on 07/05/2008, -1/+1you know... with this and other telecomm and media organizations ripping you off more and more along with recording industry special interest able to sue people without proof i'm starting to think ted kozinsky was not too far off the mark. Your governments control your every move in the name of corporate profits and charge you for it instead of the corporations. In fact .... they get a tax break.
oh and my land line costs me 20 bucks a month. i don't have to sign a contract and pay 600 dollars for a phone. My phone was 10 dollars from a bargain store. ***** cell phones. telecomm companies are robbing you blind. - OpCzar, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2Rich/foolish folk logic: Wow, look at all these people refusing to buy the iPhone. - delmauriow, on 07/06/2008, -0/+2This has very little to do with the iPhone, and more to do with the "crappy" rates that Rogers charges it's customers. People in canda will have to work 2-3 jobs to afford to pay what Rogers calls "a cost saving to the consumer" and "no one really wants unlimited data, it would cost too much" The company has been robbing the people of Canada for years, it's finally time to "stick it to the man" and quick getting screwed over!!!!
