It's official: Rogers to bring iPhone to Canada this year
appleinsider.com — Canadian wireless carrier Rogers Wireless said Tuesday it has reached an agreement with Apple to begin offering the iPhone later this year. "We're thrilled to announce that we have a deal with Apple to bring the iPhone to Canada later this year," the carrier said in a statement. "We can't tell you any more about it right now, but stay tuned."

- xerexes1, on 04/29/2008, -1/+5I feel for you but this happens to a lot of us. There is no use in being bitter, just know that you picked a topic of interest and move on.
- wellyuk, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2It's not a competition you know.
- miketest, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1reported to digg... sorry had to do that..
- n8to, on 04/29/2008, -3/+51This news rocks although I also have that sinking feeling that somehow Rogers will royally screw this up. As I type this I am looking at a banner ad next to this comment advertising $99 for "everything" from Sprint in the States. In Canada we can only dream of having a competitive mobile industry. Here in Canada your data plan is $25 for 5 MB, (yes, MB) of data.
Whoa, check that...I just found this
http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/08/02/05/roge ...
Unlimited data for $20? Oh look, its raining donuts.- mrhaines, on 04/29/2008, -4/+7Too bad it wasb't with Bell. Their unlimited data is only 7 bucks!
- fliped, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1but that's not even real unlimited data because its only WAP not for full HTML websites except maybe for the HTC touch. Rogers and Fido have the same plan too.
- smacksaw, on 04/29/2008, -4/+6 I already have unlimited HDSPA data and video on my Rogers for an extra $7/mo
- mlostracco, on 04/29/2008, -0/+23Here's some more analysis on how notorious Canadian telco Rogers could dick it up royally with their historically atrocious prices: http://torontoist.com/2008/04/iphone_appears.php
Rogers has said that they are a "premium brand" and that they're not fans of unlimited data plans—audaciously saying that unlimited data plans are A BARRIER TO ADOPTION for new customers! WTF! - tehnico, on 04/29/2008, -0/+14Update from that: Unfortunately, Rogers' new $20 Communication Value Pack is presently limited to just web browsing on cell phones with only those browsers authorized by Rogers for the plan. Browsing through other means, as well as use of email clients over the network, will continue to incur a 5 cents/KB charge.
- Raian, on 04/29/2008, -0/+15That's because the people at Rogers are a bunch of bozos.
- mlostracco, on 04/29/2008, -1/+11Plus it's only for browsing the few Rogers-vetted WAP sites. So you can visit Google under the plan, but if you follow a link, you get charged for that data. Stuff like Google Maps and your non-Rogers webmail gets charged, and the unlimited data plans is only for a few phones, and NONE OF THEIR SMARTPHONES.
- smacksaw, on 04/29/2008, -6/+2Yeah I have that plan and you don't know what you're talking about.
- fliped, on 04/30/2008, -1/+1what phone do you have?
- nogami, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4Basically they only offer the unlimited data on PoS phones. Believe me, if you have a Windows Mobile phone, or anything with a keyboard that would actually let you USE the data plan, they won't give it to you (if the IMEI of your phone isn't an authorized one on their list, the billing is $0.05/kb).
- smacksaw, on 04/29/2008, -3/+3All that means is that you can't tether the phone as a modem to another device.
I love how I'm getting Dugg down, yet I actually have this plan on two phones and understand it and everyone else is Digging each other up when they don't know what they're talking about.
I have installed several applications like Google and Yahoo software, I check my POP3 gmail, I go to whatever websites their little browser supports and it's all good.- mlostracco, on 04/29/2008, -2/+1Wrong: http://torontoist.com/2008/02/unlimited_meani.php
- smacksaw, on 04/29/2008, -3/+3That article is worthless. I have Yahoo Go and Google Maps, and except for the lack of GPS on my phone they both work just fine WITH NO EXTRA CHARGES.
The fact is that I could tether my modem and as long as I don't go overboard they don't care.
Why have I never been billed for these things? It's like the people who download a ton on their cable modem. Some get the charge per GB and others do not. Who gets it? The people that go overboard.
Even when I changed my plan I asked if there were any sorts of "exceptions" and they said as long I don't blow it away or defraud them, nothing is going to happen. And the example they used is video calling. If they are giving me that much transfer rate with video calling, why do they care about Yahoo Go? - mlostracco, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3They have no extra charges because they are part of the Rogers-vetted sites that don't get dinged the extra fee. When you leave these pre-approved sites (Yahoo!, Windows Live Mail, MySpace Mobile, Facebook Mobile, Google Mobile, the custom YouTube portal) you get the other rate.
- smacksaw, on 04/29/2008, -3/+3That article is worthless. I have Yahoo Go and Google Maps, and except for the lack of GPS on my phone they both work just fine WITH NO EXTRA CHARGES.
- mlostracco, on 04/29/2008, -2/+1Wrong: http://torontoist.com/2008/02/unlimited_meani.php
- ofathens, on 04/29/2008, -0/+7The "unlimited data" will in fact be restricted to web browsing, and only for those phones that Rogers wants you to be browsing with. The same goes for Bell; the unlimited data plan is only available for the HTC Touch.
- Sweigh, on 04/29/2008, -0/+5Update: Unfortunately, Rogers' new $20 Communication Value Pack is presently limited to just web browsing on cell phones with only those browsers authorized by Rogers for the plan. Browsing through other means, as well as use of email clients over the network, will continue to incur a 5 cents/KB charge.
- dsenman, on 04/29/2008, -1/+1Telus is $15 unlimited
- worldchanger, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1correct me if I'm wrong, but that's only unlimited email, last I checked.
- smacksaw, on 04/29/2008, -4/+5This is a funny thread. Either people have an irrational hate towards Rogers or it's filled with people who work for Telus and Bell. I think that if anyone cares to disagree with me they should respond with proof.
I have the unlimited data plan. I combine it with a different plan for my TXTing. It's $7 for the data and $15 for the communication pack for my VM and TXT.
* I cannot tether my phone as a modem. To do that I would have to unlock it. It is not allowed.
* I can browse any website my phone will support. As much as I like. Unlimited. I can follow links to whatever I want.
* I can install any apps that work on my K850i and use them as much as I like, including Google Maps.
* I have never had a charge for $0.05/kb for anything I have ever done. I have never been charged above the $7 for my internet.
And...I have unlimited video calling on my phone. The iPhone will have video calling capability. That means that using Rogers HDSPA network I get 15 fps full-motion video when I vidcall other people. If that doesn't JACK UP the bandwidth usage, I don't know what does. Yet they give it to me for free while I still have to pay for my mobile minutes for non-vidcalls. That is how robust this HDSPA network is. It exists, as does my plan for the iPhone when it arrives.
In summary, I have never been billed for internet and I use it a ton. The only way I will get billed is if I unlock my phone and tether it to my PC as a modem. I have first-hand experience. I have my bills from Rogers with no internet charges on them. To say otherwise is questionable. I think that if you want an iPhone you should not let people scare you out of it. Basic monthly service is $25/mo and you can get the data in a $7 plan or a $20 plan, so I would guess you can use your iPhone for $32-45/mo + taxes and fees. Which is what Rogers wants, because they can transition people off of the older towers with limited capacity and move them to the high capacity HDSPA towers.- worldchanger, on 04/30/2008, -0/+3I love how you assume that the people who hate Rogers are either irrational or work for Telus or Bell. You must work for Rogers.
- AndrewWiggin, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2I looked into that "unlimited data plan" (since I have an iPhone in Canada). They told me it was merely web page browsing and could not be used with blackberries or other devices that use data rather than simply view web pages in a rogers compliant phone browser (i.e. not useful for the iPhone).
- mykotron, on 04/29/2008, -1/+10man I remember being on Sprint in the US 4 years ago and unlimited data was $5.00!!!!!!
Rogers is such a rip off. Canada in general sucks in so many regards to monopolizing companies and lack of competition. Rogers / Telus, Air Canada / West Jet
Rogers has doubled it's profit in the first quarter of this year. They don't do that by being "FAIR" to their customers: http://technology.canoe.ca/2008/04/29/5418281-cp.h ...
www.ihaterogers.ca - nanboya, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2You get dinged for being a Blackberry user regardless of the carrier though.
- mrhaines, on 04/29/2008, -4/+7Too bad it wasb't with Bell. Their unlimited data is only 7 bucks!
- mattclare, on 04/29/2008, -3/+5It's true, here's the press release!
http://micro.newswire.ca/release.cgi?rkey=16042925 ... - melak, on 04/29/2008, -1/+14finally, unlimited wireless data in Canada, let this be the start of something beautiful
- betadan, on 04/29/2008, -4/+14As nice as it is that the iPhone is being released in Canada.
I (as a Canadian) believe that it will be met with truly little fan fare. the first factor will be the price i am sure, and as there are already touch screen smart phones offered by Rogers.
Also Like the article says there is still no real good-value data plans on the rogers network, and as we have all seen one of the major selling points is the Web based features of the iPhone.
Sure people will buy them, but not as many as they hope, and those that do will really be using it as a status symbol.
Just my 2 cents.- galvanize, on 04/29/2008, -0/+9My prediction is that people will still buy grey market unlocked iPhones as an alternative to Rogers exorbitant prices.. just like it always has been and always will be.. until the CRTC (Canadian communications regulator) opens up the gates for more competition..
- steveiskfc, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4Yea I already have my iPhone on the rogers network, but having limited data really reduced the greatness of the phone. I want my youtube!!!
- smacksaw, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2Rogers has their own portal to YouTube so they will probably control access to it. I can only watch YouTube through my Rogers browser.
- everfresh59, on 04/29/2008, -4/+9Won't believe it till I see it....
- musntSurfatWork, on 04/29/2008, -6/+0Won't believe it till iSee it.
- stokd, on 04/29/2008, -0/+1There's an announcement on Sales Central (their activation portal...thing...) too, it's coming. I'm really hoping it'll be the 3G version that's in the works...otherwise that's retarded.
- Senturion, on 04/29/2008, -2/+66If any company has the ability to screw this up it's Rogers.
I wouldn't get too excited yet.- bejayel, on 04/29/2008, -1/+5Yeah rogers pretty much sucks. Want to drop your call? walk under a tree, or into your house. Need to phone someone on the highway when your car breaks down? Too bad. Want a half decent plan for your phone? Not a chance.
Most of the time its just better to go with Telus or a Crown Corp (if you have one). This is just my experience in central Canada to this point. I havent been to eastern Canada so i have no idea for there.- evil-doer, on 04/29/2008, -1/+3i absolutely hate rogers and they should die in a fire but reception is not one of their problems. you either live in a very bad area or you have a ***** phone. they have the best coverage in canada, everything else about them sucks
- viruz, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2Tha's funny, I've only ever had a few calls drop on me. I talk in elevators and in my basement, while I don't care much for rogers, I don't lie about their service(it is as advertised, although overpriced)
- wellyuk, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3I've been using Rogers since December and have never experienced any of the problems you're talking about. It's always been an absolutely solid connection, even at the top of Whistler mountain.
- bejayel, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1i live in Saskatchewan where Sasktel Mobility is the dominant cellular provider. It also happens to be a Crown Corporation that doestn like to share. It's really the only option we have but they have good rates and everything so it isnt a big deal. You would be having the problem i have if you drove through Saskatchewan.
- bejayel, on 04/29/2008, -1/+5Yeah rogers pretty much sucks. Want to drop your call? walk under a tree, or into your house. Need to phone someone on the highway when your car breaks down? Too bad. Want a half decent plan for your phone? Not a chance.

- Sweigh, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3I believe it's $20/month for each remaining month in the contract.
- Coffeedemon, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3Usually to a maximum like $200.00 though. Check the contract.
- tiuk, on 04/29/2008, -2/+1Actually (and you're not going to want to hear this), I believe when my ex girlfriend was on telus the amount was $500. Yeah.
- Coffeedemon, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1Jebus. Rogers has the $200 maximum.
- tiuk, on 04/29/2008, -2/+1Actually (and you're not going to want to hear this), I believe when my ex girlfriend was on telus the amount was $500. Yeah.
- pradaaddict, on 04/29/2008, -0/+1wow damn... "sorry rogers/apple, you guys were a year too late. I waited until i could wait no more and bought the htc touch"
this is what happens when you wait too long to adapt to new technology, you lose money. 400$ to cancel Telus and 500$ for the phone x2 for my wife is worth a new suit.
- Coffeedemon, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3Usually to a maximum like $200.00 though. Check the contract.

- IanPatterson, on 04/29/2008, -0/+11It's probably cheaper and easier to buy it from the sates and unlock it and not have to have a a 3 year plan to go hand-in-hand with it.
- mlostracco, on 04/29/2008, -0/+8Rogers has been checking IMEI numbers for some of their plans and charging extra for a phone you didn't buy from Rogers. That's the Canadian wireless market for ya. Sigh.
- luchid, on 04/29/2008, -1/+2Wow, that's really ***** up. Doesn't Ziphone have an option to change IMEI numbers on the iPhone's baseband?

- cmer, on 04/29/2008, -0/+9Later this year = June, when the 3g iPhone is announced.
- mlostracco, on 04/29/2008, -1/+2Announced in June at WWDC, but likely a release in September for Q4. Remember, that Q4 is the most important sales period and they need about four months to ramp-up an ad campaign.
- LilBoyLuver, on 04/29/2008, -1/+1That doesn't really make sense for three reasons:
1.the first quarter is actually the biggest in terms of sales because it is the holiday shopping season.
2. Why would Apple forgo all of the sales from June-September, a 3G iPhone will not get the same kind of attention and excitement that the first iPhone got? Even if they add a large number of features it will still be an evolutionary product
3. They would not announce a 3G phone and then not release it for four months because it would cannibalize the sale of the current iPhone from the time the 3G phone was announced to its release. The reason they did this with the original iPhone was because they didn't have a product in the marketplace and they knew that people would hold off on buying a phone and wait for the iPhone.- mlostracco, on 04/29/2008, -0/+11. Q4 is holiday shopping season, not Q1.
2. If Rogers just signed a deal, they need a 3–4-month period to mount an ad campaign and do media buying and network testing.
3. The 3G iPhone should be released by then, so Rogers customers would only have that option. They won't likely be selling the old handset. The iPhone isn't yet available in Canada, so there is no cannibalization of the original version.
- mlostracco, on 04/29/2008, -0/+11. Q4 is holiday shopping season, not Q1.

- stinkypyper, on 04/29/2008, -6/+43LOL, Hey Rogers, everyone in Canada is already sporting unlocked iPhones, and their all on your network since you are the only one using GSM(Fido does too, but they resell for you).
How ***** stupid is your marketing department, it has to be them, their the only ones stupid enough to delay something like this for this long. Great strategy, lets wait forever to release new technology. I hate cell phone service in this country, we need a good European carrier to come over and set up shop so we can get some proper prices.- mlostracco, on 04/29/2008, -0/+23Rogers owns Fido, and has a GSM monopoly in Canada. And they wield that over their customers like a club.
- nogami, on 04/29/2008, -0/+10Thanks again to the CRTC that allowed Rogers to buy-out Fido. At least before the buyout, there used to be some decent competition between Rogers and Fido. The CRTC has done nothing in Canada except ***** up both the broadcast and the wireless industries by listening to their management instead of customers.
- mlostracco, on 04/29/2008, -0/+6They also allowed Telus to buy their competitor, Clearnet, and they don't feel that Rogers having a GSM monopoly is a competition issue since customers can still buy CMDA phones from Bell and Telus. Duh.

- CountSessine, on 04/29/2008, -0/+1The rumor is that 1) Rogers needed some time to implement IMEI tracking on their network, which lets them give out nice unlimited data packages to iPhone users while continuing to charge $0.05/kb to people using other phones, and 2) they want as many of their users to transition over to UMTS/HSDPA (3G) as possible and didn't want a flood of new EDGE phones on their network.

Gotta love having only 2 real companies out here.- CountSessine, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2It will almost certainly be the 3G model. Everyone inside Rogers was saying that Rogers didn't want the EDGE iPhone on their network. A 3G version was almost certainly Rogers' condition for carrying the iPhone.

- Sweigh, on 04/29/2008, -4/+1As far as data plan rates go, Telus already offers unlimited data plans for their smartphone customers, with the highest plan priced at $45/month. The biggest downside of course is the lack of a GSM network for them. Regardless, this will create some much needed competition in the industry.
- brendanryder, on 04/29/2008, -0/+1no, they dont. im pay 45$ for 5mb a month.
Fail. - WolfDV, on 04/29/2008, -0/+1Actually the one to get is the older promo: Unlt'd Personal Email & IM 15 .. it includes all your mobile smartphone data. Call L&R to get try and get that.. $15 .. unlimited data on your device... btw I'm loving my BB Curve.

- rwblackbird, on 04/30/2008, -0/+0I hope your username doesn't mean what it appears to mean.
- cquilliam, on 04/29/2008, -1/+3Rogers still sucks. Very limited coverage in this province, only covers the corner of the east coast, you drive and hour and you no longer have coverage.
- spankr, on 04/29/2008, -0/+1Agree - decent GSM coverage would be great. Now CDMA is the only choice for people who move outside the urban core...
- rohan1234, on 04/29/2008, -9/+2They've already been selling unlocked iPhones here for years.
- danwallace, on 04/29/2008, -1/+6For years, eh?
- miketest, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1iphones for years. last time i saw one was in 1823... LOL
- rdolishny, on 04/29/2008, -1/+17Meh. I can see it now. Rogers logo plastered all over it, and on the startup wallpaper. Plus it will be 1st gen EDGE not the rumoured latest and greatest.
And the data plan will require personal lubricant.
I wouldn't get too excited yet.- nogami, on 04/29/2008, -0/+1If they offer an unlimited data plan for under $60 a month, I'll probably bite. If not - forget it.
- stokd, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2Why wouldn't it be 3G? If the rumors are actually true it'll be shipping in June or July, from what I'm hearing from my operations manager (we're a Rogers distributor) it's likely coming for Q4. Rogers is the first to have 3G coverage in North America, why wouldn't it be the newer version? that would be absolutely retarded.
They'll have to revamp their data packages too, considering Telus has a $7 unlimited browsing data add on. They're already changing them up a bit but they're still not necessarily cheaper, just more data...laaaame. - CountSessine, on 04/29/2008, -0/+31) The Steve will never allow the iPhone to be carrier-branded. His antipathy to cell phone companies is well known. If Rogers insisted on that Apple just wouldn't release it in Canada at all.
2) It will almost certainly be the 3G model. Rogers views themselves as a technology leader (their 3G rollout is well ahead of AT&T's in the US) and they probably didn't want to see a flood of new EDGE users on their network.
3) The data plan will probably be similar to the one in Ireland. Not great, but much better than what we have now.
- grambones, on 04/29/2008, -3/+6I work for Rogers (rogers video) I sell cell-phones and I find that most people don't want to spend a lot of money on a phone, they just want one that works. Then there is the people who do want to spend a lot of money and there the ones who comes in with their iPhones they already got and unlocked. It was a major mistake to hold it off from Canada for so long and sales will show that.
I remember about 2 months ago I heard over a conference call that the iPhone was not coming to Canada due to Apple wanting too much money per phone sale. So I guess that has either changed or this is all just hype still.- CountSessine, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4What you're going to find is that your experience is self-selecting and almost no one will walk into your store to get an IPhone - much like AT&T stores in the US. Saying that most people want a cheap phone or an expensive unlocked phone based on your experience at a Rogers store is like a Walmart cashier saying that no will buy a shirt from Ralph Lauren because no one has ever paid more than $10 for a shirt at your till. IPhone users will completely bypass you and your Rogers store because most people don't like salespeople and cell phone stores and upsells and the SAF bait-and-switch and all the other cell phone store BS. We hold our noses, we walk through your door, we get our phone, and we're gone. And if I can buy my phone online at the Apple store and activate it without ever seeing you, so much the better.
As for the money, more likely Rogers caved in to Apple's demands - the AWS auction is coming up and if their don't sew-up a deal with Apple now, Apple's going to have GSM alternatives a year from now.
- CountSessine, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4What you're going to find is that your experience is self-selecting and almost no one will walk into your store to get an IPhone - much like AT&T stores in the US.
- cplusplus, on 04/29/2008, -1/+4Slightly off topic...
I want a phone that switches to WiFi when it can. Since I am cheap.- Reci, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4Cheap and data plans do not mix too well.
- Skootles, on 04/30/2008, -0/+2HTC Touch
Nokia N82
Nokia N85
The list goes on.
- dasmonki, on 04/29/2008, -2/+20Great, the iPhone is being released in Canada by the worst company possible.
- davidkeithjones, on 04/29/2008, -4/+3Still better than Bell and Telus.
- ScreenSaver24, on 04/29/2008, -1/+1The iPhone already does that, just so you know.
- scamper22, on 04/29/2008, -0/+1did you mean to say the only company possible?
- teh_techie, on 04/29/2008, -1/+1Could be Fido... but in the end, Fido is owned by Rogers.
- davidkeithjones, on 04/29/2008, -4/+3Still better than Bell and Telus.
- jordanlgta, on 04/29/2008, -7/+1What the hell is Rogers?
- ChrisWickenscom, on 04/29/2008, -0/+7Try google. Not that difficult.
- TEMM, on 04/29/2008, -0/+1Think AT&T+Comcast, and you have Rogers.
- phosdex, on 04/29/2008, -0/+0Except that Rogers isn't nearly as competent or customer friendly.
- al11588, on 04/29/2008, -0/+0Roy Rogers. Microsoft-FTW
- TEMM, on 04/29/2008, -0/+1Think AT&T+Comcast, and you have Rogers.
- teh_techie, on 04/29/2008, -0/+1Rogers used to be Rogers AT&T Wireless. As soon as Cingular bought AT&T back in the day (2003?), Rogers dropped the AT&T name, as I assume the name could no longer be licensed to use...
- miketest, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1Question should be "Who the hell is Rogers?"
- ChrisWickenscom, on 04/29/2008, -0/+7Try google. Not that difficult.
- MrViklund, on 04/29/2008, -4/+1Already?
- stokd, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2Faster than the N95 I guess...
- ChrisWickenscom, on 04/29/2008, -0/+11Maybe if Canada had even somewhat decent rates on data plans, it would be something I would think about.
- Tyr7BE, on 04/29/2008, -5/+2Yeah yeah yeah - another smart phone, does all the basic smart phone stuff, minus a few big features. How many of these stories are people going to digg up before the news gets old?
- steveiskfc, on 04/29/2008, -2/+2Give us our AT&T!!!
- evil-doer, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3rogers wireless used to be called at&t..
- davidkeithjones, on 04/29/2008, -0/+18WE NEED UNLIMITED DATA!!!!
- steveiskfc, on 04/29/2008, -0/+7I agree. REAL unlimited data. As in youtube on the iphone, or laptop tethering. The carriers need to get with the times.
- InSectWar, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2and MORE VESPENE GAS!!!!!
- Ikulus, on 04/29/2008, -5/+4The iPhone is old now. They've missed the hype train by many months.
Do people still want it?- TheRealDeal, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1Yes.
- iChopPryde, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1lmfao omg yes iPhone is ridiciously amazing and only getting more amazing ones teh appstore is released no phone can compete with it apps will be made every single day its insane this phone has something new everyday whether its a game or something to help with your everyday life.!
- NotaFanboy87, on 05/05/2008, -0/+0There's a reason why the company's sold out of them....
- brendanryder, on 04/29/2008, -9/+1sweet we will get the "new" okld phone, first gen, while the sates gets the new 3g phone.
*****, i hate living in canaa- giveer, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4If you hate living in canada because of a single handheld item, your loyalty is rather *****. Travel somewhere on the globe or break your leg for a good-points reminder.
- miketest, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1its easy.. leave it then..
- Reci, on 04/29/2008, -3/+0So what you have to sit in line at the grocery store and watch youtube on your phone? Oh how important, I am sure the people around you will envy you for having the newest gadget, or consider you an idiot for blowing your hard earned money. Then again Canada is right next door to the US.
- iChopPryde, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1OMG $399 for a phone is just INSANE (sarcasim) not like any other smart phone would ever dare cost that much ..... I hate people who just hate on Apple products you never have a good excuse there so lame if you dont like iphone or apple then dont read these articles!
- Reci, on 05/06/2008, -0/+0Smart Phone (sarcasm) How nice, now you have adopted the industry catch phrase. You hate me for not liking Apple products? It is sad you feel so passionately about a corporation to the point you will feel hate.
Don't get me wrong any phone that costs more than the average mobile phone for whatever "smart" reason is a waste of money. If it was the price of an average phone I would own one, why not. But to spend 4-5 hundred dollars and then have to spend an additional 10-15-20$/month for data service is pure and simple waste. Why? To watch Youtube??!!! So you pay monthly to watch some stupid pet tricks and people posting home videos of themselves talking.
Blackberrys, HPQ, Palm all a waste of money so people can have something to play with. These are toys for adult children. I remember when Palm pilots were hot. Everybody had to pull theirs out in the elevator and "use" it as if they cannot do the same thing when they reach their office in 1 minute. hehehe Now I do not feel so bad living in the US when I see that Canada has citizens that are just as silly with their consumption.

- Malarie, on 04/29/2008, -4/+2The real Question is: Do I need one? No!
- TheRealDeal, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1The real Question is: Do I need one? Hell yeah!
- Reci, on 05/06/2008, -0/+0Malarie, do not say that. We are dealing with gadget phreaks here. They love to look important when they "jog" through their playlist while waiting for their latte at Starbucks. hehehe
- Senturion, on 04/29/2008, -0/+23Rogers: "Introducing the brand new iPhone, 4 Gb, EDGE data, only $799! Add the Ultimate Rogers pack to add unlimited web browsing for only $99. Disclaimer: unlimited does not actually mean unlimited but in reality 25 Mb, overage charged at $1 per Mb. 3 year contract required."
- davidkeithjones, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4Nobody needs more than 640k ~ Rogers.
- amcnamar, on 04/29/2008, -0/+5I already brought the iPhone to Rogers in Canada.
Now if the assholes will sell a decent data plan.
I actually spoke with a Rogers rep and he said that all of their current data offerings are locked until August 2008. That might give some hint as to what's going down. - cofo, on 04/29/2008, -2/+2Shame its already played out with myself and everyone I've sold one too already selling theirs. The novelty of having one in Canada seems to have worn thin.
- bergheim, on 04/29/2008, -7/+1OMG OMG zomg zomg IPHOONE!!! PHOOONEE!! MAC MAC APPLE APPLE IPHOOONEEEE! IT IS COMMING!!! AN ARTICLE WITH IPONE IN IT!! WOOOOOOOOO!!! APPLE APPLE APPLE UPVOTE UPVOTE UPVOTE!! IPHOOONNNEEEE!!
- miketest, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1HAHAHAHAHA.... You must be from Nokia ... LOL
- scarlet85, on 04/29/2008, -8/+0Verizon...T-Mobile...Vodafone...Rogers...wait, Rogers?!! What kinda stupid name is that!!!!
- mlostracco, on 04/29/2008, -0/+5It's the name of the founder, Ted Rogers, Sr.—who actually played a large part in radio history: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_S._Rogers%2C_S ...
- crowbar77, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4Same kind of name as Bell, a dudes last name...
- pyrates, on 04/29/2008, -0/+1Well if I can only get the iphone in Canada through a 2 or 3 year contract, when my current iphone gives out, I will just go to the US to buy one and unlock it, like I did the first time I wanted an iPhone. You will not lock me into a contract rogers. I also won't give up my city fido plan.
- garble7, on 04/29/2008, -0/+2City FIdo 1st Gen FTW! I hear ya, and 12MB of data for only 2bucks on my value plan, why not? unlimited talking for $45 why not?
- flickr, on 04/29/2008, -0/+1Anyone else find this a bit strange, what with the rumors that the 3G iPhone will be released this summer? A 3G iPhone will warrant Apple working with another mobile provider no? Is this Rogers trying to get a bigger cut of the iPhone pie before it slips away forever?
- purplehaze420, on 04/29/2008, -2/+1Damnit... was looking for this article to submit it as soon as I heard on the news...
- FAHQ2, on 04/29/2008, -0/+1Does anyone out there know if you can get a unlocked iphone working on Rogers "pay as you go" plan?
I have thought of buying an unlocked iphone, but i don't plan on using it much, so a $100 voucher pay as you go plan is good enough for me. For Internet i will just use the Wifi in the iphone as most everywhere i go in the city has wifi, so i don't need an expensive data plan.- notfred, on 04/29/2008, -0/+3This works fine; I do it. No internet, of course.
- alpha19, on 04/29/2008, -11/+1Canada has cell phones?
- blacklilyninja, on 04/29/2008, -1/+2Canadian data/voice plans for mobile market is too high too slow and too ridiculous. I'll never own a cell phone. Rogers however is the worst carrier service in canada.
- DeFex, on 04/29/2008, -0/+16you think AT&T sucks in the US. Rogers has brought sucking to an art form.
- iChopPryde, on 04/30/2008, -0/+1YES and remember when AT T and Rogers were teamed together for ULTIMATE SUCKINGNESS!
- fudged71, on 04/29/2008, -1/+4When the rumors started coming out that Rogers was going to bring the iPhone to Canada, and heard all the people complaining about Rogers, I made a petition about it online. http://www.petitiononline.com/iPhone99/ After about three months, I was called by a guy from the National Post, so I got a mention there and in a CBC online article. It was really great talking to the reporter on the phone, because of how casual it was... we were talking about the google phone, and cellular networks, just random things. The petition now has 5411 signatures. This article makes no indication o the price of the service, but I hope that people aren't going to get as screwed as all the people who emailed me about the petition, copmlaining about their experiences with Rogers. I really hope.
- digjam, on 04/29/2008, -8/+1Thank GOD! Finally all the Canadians can stop biatching on DIGG about ... "Whennnnnnnn willlll iiiiphoneeeeeee be releaaaaaaaseeeeeeeeed innnnnn caaaaaaaaaaaaanaaaaaaaadaaaaaaaa?????????????"
- AndreiOttawa, on 04/29/2008, -6/+2Who cares?....
- supersteve, on 04/29/2008, -1/+2why are you even reading this if you do not care? get a life dude
- AndreiOttawa, on 04/30/2008, -2/+1I have a life (and a wife). And I don't give a rat's ass about iPhone in Canada.
- NotaFanboy87, on 05/05/2008, -0/+0That still doesn't answer the question... why are you fervently reading iPhone posts AND commenting on them if you personally claim that you 'dont care' about the iPhone? Your 'wife' can't really bail you out of this one...
- AndreiOttawa, on 04/30/2008, -2/+1I have a life (and a wife). And I don't give a rat's ass about iPhone in Canada.

- mauriceh, on 04/29/2008, -1/+1Virgin Mobile Canada offer UNLIMITED Data plans now for $7 a month.
You know Virgin: The guys who do not charge any bogus "access fees"
And, NO PLAN. you can do this on a monthly "pay as you go"
http://www.virginmobile.ca/vmc/en/rates/rate-plans ...- pell, on 04/29/2008, -0/+4Do they offer a SIM card?
- n8to, on 04/29/2008, -0/+1Hey, has anyone tried this out? I notice that Rogers limits their "unlimited" data plan to only certain phone browsers. Does Virgin's unlimited plan work for the iPhone?
- TDoucet, on 04/30/2008, -0/+0Virgin Mobile uses Bell's CDMA network in Canada. No iPhone for them anytime soon.
- NotaFanboy87, on 05/05/2008, -0/+0and Pay as you go is still a huge scam... you end up paying a lot more and getting a lot less.. sorry bub.
