- OS2Guy, on 10/10/2007, -65/+281Damn them! I ordered a Mac Pro with 8Gig of RAM and 3 Terabytes of hard disk space along with a 30" Apple Cinema and the crazy people at Apple actually delivered it! AND ON TIME! I never have any luck!
- Verdanic, on 10/10/2007, -18/+115Hey, congratulations! I wish I was as awesome as you!
- zybch, on 10/10/2007, -54/+100Go publicly masturbate elsewhere. Nobody here give a flying ***** about what your system has!
- Firehed, on 10/10/2007, -5/+29He got dugg up 65 times. Somebody here clearly cares.
- iChainsaw, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10coming from someone who is insulting someone over the internet....
- Dylson, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11Flying *****.
- masscrazy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Jealous anyone?
- Saiing, on 10/10/2007, -31/+134Sorry dude. It's never going to make up for that tiny penis of yours.
- casual7y, on 10/10/2007, -19/+84no one cares that you can list your fake specs online.
- squirrelza, on 10/10/2007, -8/+85Next time you should put aside $200 from your $5000 rig and buy yourself an iPod
- neurosport, on 10/10/2007, -95/+9you're some kind of an idiot arent you ?
the aluminum of your case is more aluminum than the aluminum of mine ?
your intel xeon is more intel or more xeon than mine ?
your 3TB of space is more than my 6TB ?
your 30" apple screen is superior to my 52" samsung screen because my samsung has twice the brightness, contrast and half the response time of your apple ?
ah ! i got it ! you win because you had your pice of ***** ejaculated on by steve jobs personally and delivered to you by apple and i humbly built my computer myself ...- shortarabguy, on 10/10/2007, -11/+20Someone's a little testy...
- mushoo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20Are you implying that neurospot's post is the result of testis envy?
If I couldn't ejaculate I would be just as mad as him at Steve Job's ability to cum out iPods.
- mushoo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20Are you implying that neurospot's post is the result of testis envy?
- MonkeyFit, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15The 30" Apple probably has much better resoultion than the Samsung (assuming it's a 52" TV being used as a monitor). Sure, a bigger size means everything is, well, bigger. But better resolution means fitting more information on the screen.
- illt, on 10/10/2007, -2/+752" tv would have muuuuuuuch lower pixel density.
- neurosport, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1yeah i dont really use it except for watching pictures, movies and youtube
i use a normal display for browsing
however since i have the 52" connected over DVI it COULD be used as a main display if neccessary as text is perfectly sharp
- luet, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10...were you not just criticizing OS2 guy for bragging about his equipment? Do you even read the ***** you post?
- neurosport, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1i wasnt criticizing him for bragging, but for being an idiot
he thinks that apple is somehow the pinnacle of engineering
in reality apple is just a dell in a shinier wrapper running a crippled linux
- neurosport, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1i wasnt criticizing him for bragging, but for being an idiot
- supermanred, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7His Intel is probably an 8-core. Suck it Neurosport.
Oh, and his has no "blue screens"- neurosport, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1what makes you think i get the blue screen ?
- iChainsaw, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12your computer runs windows...instantly lowers your stats by 75%

- djh816, on 10/10/2007, -1/+40i had to send in my refurb macbook pro 5 times. they tried to bribe me with an ipod but i picked a brand new mbp instead.
- Lux7, on 10/16/2007, -2/+48"In an act of what I can only explain as sheer geekiness I stumbled out the sentence, 'Well, I’ve always wanted an iPhone :)' I chuckled."
This guy is amazing, he can send a smiley face through a phone!- actorboy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15Doubly amazing in that he's always wanted something that's only been available for a couple of months.
- rarson, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Well it's not like you had to wait for it to hit store shelves before you started wanting it. If you wanted it.
- actorboy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15Doubly amazing in that he's always wanted something that's only been available for a couple of months.
- KrazyA1pha, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14When I purchased my Apple Cinema Display a couple of years ago, the postal system lost it and ended up sending it back to Apple instead of me when they found it. One phone call to Apple later, I had a new Cinema Display shipped out and tracked along with $100 store credit.
Apple is actually very good when it comes to customer service from my experience.- dragon76, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I had a G3 iBook, the ones with the ATI graphics problem that required the logic board replaced. About 2 years after that, I broke the power adapter off inside the damn thing. Long live MagSafe! Anyway, Apple does not repair portables themselves. After the first repair, it came back with a bum logic board, after the second, the wrong hard and optical drive, after the third, a bum logic board. Then Apple sent me a brand new iBook G4. WOOT! I sold it and got a MacBook Pro :-).
- lharrod, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I bought a G3 tower from Apple, had it delivered to my house. I set it up, and everything was cool except that I couldn't go online. I called Apple, they walked me through several possible ways to fix it, but nothing worked. The lady asked if I would be home tomorrow (Saturday). I said, yes, all day. She said they'd send someone out tomorrow morning to look at my Mac. The next morning, a man came and examined it. I assumed he was local (from my town, Fresno, CA), but he was from Palo Alto (4 hours away). Turns out the modem wasn't secured all the way in. He replaced it anyway, since he was there. I asked him if Apple always sent repair guys from their HQ. He said, all the time, and that he personally covers the Bay Area and Central Calif. And it was all free. Amazing!
- dunn2953, on 10/10/2007, -9/+4imagine how much less you could have spent if you built that your self...for $1500 i built
Intel Xeon X3210 over clocked to 3.8ghz (99% of the time this will be faster than 8 cores at 3Ghz)
4gb of DDR2-1066
8800GTS 640mb
Asus P5k premium
4x 500gb Sata-2 HDDs in raid0
custom watercolling
and you know what the best part about this is i dont have a computer that is 99% proprietary!!!
Oh and you cant even rip on me for being stuck with windows because you know what Archlinux>OSX- Trevino, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Sure but does it run OSX? If not then it is not comparable.
- dunn2953, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4what can OSX do that neither linux or windows can. and think what can either linux or windows do that OSX cant do...
- fungible, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Yes, but then some of us have actually slept with girls before.

- toetagger, on 10/16/2007, -2/+60"sucker"
- daza, on 10/20/2007, -2/+27MSFT did send us some gigantic Vista lollipops around launch time, was pretty cool :-)
- potterboy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Still have some of those from the launch party
- gak001, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11That doesn't sound like a very substantial meal. Perhaps they should have sent around some Vista sandwiches around launchtime.
- vertinox, on 10/10/2007, -2/+33Actually, Microsoft once sent me a complimentary copy of Windows ME when they had shipping problems with a game I bought from them back in 2000.
Talk about adding insult to injury.
To be fair, I still have the unopened box of WinME to show people as a conversation piece.- Cobainy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+27You must have pretty boring friends...

- zweben, on 10/10/2007, -3/+52Man then emails Jobs and gets a free Mac.
(I wish)- ZenMojo, on 10/10/2007, -4/+43More like, man emails Jobs and gets a free 10 dollar gift certificate toward iPod accessories.
- shortarabguy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+23On an unrelated note, all ten-dollar gift certificates seem to be fake and are not accepted on the Apple store.
- Scorps111, on 10/10/2007, -0/+23Man emails Jobs and revives a free apple logo sticker

- PAJK, on 10/10/2007, -8/+18LOL I love how *anything* can be made negative. No other company would go out their way like this.
- darienphoenix, on 10/10/2007, -14/+8That's bull. Any company will go out of their way if they think it will save them some bad PR.
- konspence, on 10/10/2007, -5/+5Darienphoenix is actually right, but since it's apple that he's speaking against, he gets dugg down.
- Escamotage, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You think Microsoft is sending free XPs to people who've bought Vistas?
- darienphoenix, on 10/10/2007, -14/+8That's bull. Any company will go out of their way if they think it will save them some bad PR.
- univerio, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Pfft, my friend got a shuffle, then he dropped it, sends it back, and gets a nano. Then he dropped THAT into a pond, he sends it back, gets a video.
- Dylson, on 10/16/2007, -0/+11If he keeps it up, eventually he will have a Mac PRO.
- zweben, on 10/10/2007, -3/+52Man then emails Jobs and gets a free Mac.
- damien6669, on 10/10/2007, -21/+10You don't need to email Jobs to get a free iPod... Just have enough issues and Apple will always treat you well.
- tdous, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2...And if you don't?
- illt, on 10/10/2007, -7/+4my friend recently bought a 24" imac. First one was DOA, second one broke within the 14 day full return policy. They expected him to get on a bus and travel 35 mins to an apple store (1way) each time. Apparently they don't send boxes for imacs. Suffice to say, he got his full refund and bought a pc just for the principle of the matter.
- NinjaPig, on 10/10/2007, -18/+95another blogger gets great apple service...
noticing a trend here?- yensed, on 10/10/2007, -3/+83...They always make it to the homepage?
- zybch, on 10/10/2007, -27/+14Of course. And the apple fanbots will ALWAYS digg it up no matter how lame!!
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -2/+18C'mon guys, give zybch a break. You know he has...issues. Soon, school will be back in session for him and he'll be off on the short bus
- Aggaman, on 10/10/2007, -3/+26This is bollocks. I've been an Apple customer for years. They are pretty good at backing up their products. I've had an iMac fail and be immediately replaced. I guess it would be nice if there were never any problems with tech products, but failing that, the best we can expect is for the company (whoever it is) to stand behind what they sell. In my experience, Apple does. So does Microsoft with the Xbox 360. Companies should be saluted for such behaviour, not vilified.
- pukufek, on 10/10/2007, -12/+5No, you are bollocks. If a product fails it MUST be replaced. You dont need to salute the company, they are obliged to replace your product under the terms of purchase and local law. What the ***** is wrong with people "the best we can expect", replacing faulty goods is the very least we can "expect", and if not, the company can "expect" a lawsuit and lost customers.
Fact is, Apple only does this ***** because they know it will give them good press not because they "love each and every customer". I cant blame them, of course you want your company to have a good reputation.- GawtMilk, on 10/10/2007, -5/+7Could you cite a local law that requires businesses to replace faulty products? It would make all warranties obsolete.
- pukufek, on 10/10/2007, -12/+5No, you are bollocks. If a product fails it MUST be replaced. - SJKat, on 10/10/2007, -7/+6Exactly. After a two replaces, you should be getting your money back. Not some ***** ***** iPod.
- nunofgs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8YES. I need to start my own blog!
- dankCIA, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I think the marketing phrase is : coddling market mavens. You treat opinion leaders well and their word of mouth will carry your product image a lot further than any tv ad.
- ferggo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Actually, my father-in-law had to send his MBP in several times, emailed Steve Jobs, and got a free iPod as well. He's not even a blogger at all. This is just their customer service policy. You just only hear about it happening on blogs.
- digitalarcanum, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2that apple's ***** keeps breaking?
- autoy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+106Yeah, I want to know that magical steve jobs mail adress everyone keeps writing to. They say all wishes come true.
- budmademeweiser, on 10/16/2007, -6/+34I believe that email address is steve.jobs@iwillgiveyouwhateveryouwantifyoucomplainenough.com
- aryayush, on 10/10/2007, -2/+54sjobs@apple.com
- anchorman, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4He must have some wicked spam filters.
- wafu, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I thought it was steve@mac.com
- aryayush, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1Well, you thought wrong. :p
- konspence, on 10/14/2007, -4/+1Steve's secretary, while reading his email for him: "Oh my GOD, this person had to replace his Mac three times, somebody send him an iPod! Quick!"
- Crazymaniacc, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4but what is his direct phone number?
- ccanni1028, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1his direct phone number is...changed 20 minutes after it's published, so it's worthess to the blogger who needs it.
- iamr00t, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6His direct line doesn't work because his iPhone was bricked due to unlocking it and running 3rd party apps.
- Flappy3, on 10/10/2007, -10/+20My iPod Touch got delivered to my front door a day before the official Australian release date. Curse Steve Jobs and Apple's customer service! I'll never get anything for free.
- Midnightbrewer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I got mine a week before the official Japanese release date, and the Apple Store in Osaka has yet to get any (they did a temporary stop after the Windows issues, apparently.) Apple excels at under-promising and over-delivering.
As far as the article goes, Apple has been giving away iPod nanos with every new computer, anyway. I don't think the guy got a very good bargain. Does this mean Apple got kudos for giving him something they're giving away to everybody else, too? Neat.- insomniac8400, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7"Apple excels at under-promising and over-delivering." That what they did with the iphone? I think it was the other way around since jobs himself earlier said 3rd party apps were good. They promised a lot and delivered nothing.
- chrisCTI, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I ordered mine on announcement day, presuming that pre-orders would be shipped on or slightly before the release date. Three weeks later and my order status still reads "Estimated delivery: October 16th"
I may as well have not bothered and picked it up in the shops instead...
- Midnightbrewer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I got mine a week before the official Japanese release date, and the Apple Store in Osaka has yet to get any (they did a temporary stop after the Windows issues, apparently.) Apple excels at under-promising and over-delivering.
- Dougcope, on 10/10/2007, -6/+17I've always been impressed by Apple's response to complaints. I once left some negative feedback on one of their UK stores after buying a MacBook. Later that day I got a call from someone in the Apple UK customer relations department apologizing for the issue (it took a long time to get any help in the store). I guess it would have been better not to have to complain in the first place. but it's nice to know they care a bit. More than some other large companies I could mention anyway.
- insomniac8400, on 10/10/2007, -15/+2That's nice, their support pisses you off so you complain, than only after a complaint do they care about your issue. You see what they are doing, right? By only caring about complaints, they get out of fixing the problems of those customers that don't complain.
- darienphoenix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11...that is the single dumbest comment I have read this year.
- MonkeyFit, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Well, how are they going to know there's a problem if nobody says anything?
- insomniac8400, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1You go to an apple store and say your device is broken. They say they won't fix it. THEN YOU COMPLAIN. Then they call you and offer to fix it. See what happened? Had you not complained after being denied service, you wouldn't have got your device fixed. How many people are going to take the guy in the store's word for it and not go above him? Not sure why you think telling it like it is, is a dumb comment.
- j83com, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I've had a very bad experience.
In 2004, after two logic boards and one hard drive being replaced on my ibook i tired to complain.
It was a horrible machine, and there were many out there with similar problems.
All I got from Apple was a "screw off".
I haven't bought anything from them since.
- insomniac8400, on 10/10/2007, -15/+2That's nice, their support pisses you off so you complain, than only after a complaint do they care about your issue. You see what they are doing, right? - matman, on 10/10/2007, -8/+70Try contacting Michael Dell about a problem and ask for free stuff and all you'll get from the16 year old female indian on the line, is the statement 'Computer says 'NO'!
- casual7y, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Funny you should mention that.
all dell employees have the email format: first_lastname@dell.com... EXCEPT michael dell. he changes his email everytime somoene lower than corparate or a member of teh general public finds it out- tdous, on 10/10/2007, -2/+23As he should. Any company that needs the TOP person to sort out 1 customer's problem is ***** at some stage in the chain.
- insomniac8400, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23You think that s.jobs is steves work address? That's a joke right? He has to have a private one that he uses for work, while the public name one is used by his secretary.
- fenixconnektion, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Actually, when I had multiple problems with my XPS Gen 2 Laptop, I just had to endure a couple customer service phone calls. In the end, I had enough problems that they completely replaced my Pentium M, GeForce Go 6800, 1GB RAM laptop with a Core 2 Duo, GeForce Go 7950 Ultra, 2GB RAM, Vista XPS M1710 laptop.
I'd say it was quite the "free" upgrade.- RealityCheque, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Apple did the same for my friend. He had reoccurring hard drive failure in his Powerbook G4, so they replaced it with a refresh model that came out 6 months after he bought his.
- UTPinky, on 10/10/2007, -5/+7So as part of the "upgrade" they threw on Vista? I think you got screwed.
- rarson, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2You know, you CAN uninstall it...
- konspence, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Yes, because Windows XP is of course free.
- jeduan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Because Windows XP is the only thing apart from Vista that you can install on a laptop
- Skor459, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I had to get my Dell 600m screen connector replaced twice.
I sometimes want things to go wrong with my products to get special treatment. Am I a bad person?
- ccanni1028, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I actually got my laptop replaced for free with a newer model by emailing "Michael Dell". I actually got a call on Labor Day from an Executive Support agent in the Austin Texas office (that was closed for the holiday).
- casual7y, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Funny you should mention that.
- gl77, on 03/31/2008, -36/+13"sorry to hear about your iMac..........please have another one of our ***** overpriced products free of charge."
- unreg, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4Actually all he got was the promise of one.
- iFungus, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Yeah I know, its such a rip-off that he gets a free product.
- gl77, on 03/31/2008, -2/+2yes possibly a free product that has a touchscreen that fails. yet another reason for the fanboys to drink the semen of steve jobs.
- Gee1004, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Or have a DELL or a Sony. They are crap too.
- Jeffler, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Overpriced products? The Nano and Classic's are the cheapest in their size range, especially the Classics.
- chellemonkey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The nanos aren't. I bought an 8 gb meizu miniplayer last week for almost $100 less than an 8gb nano...
- MagicCake, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I dugg you up for buying a kickass Meizu over a Nano :)
- chellemonkey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The nanos aren't. I bought an 8 gb meizu miniplayer last week for almost $100 less than an 8gb nano...
- MagicCake, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Hey, you can't complain that they're overpriced when you get it for free.... I'm not an Apple fan, but I still wouldn't say no to free *****.
- Dysarthria, on 10/10/2007, -16/+10He should have gotten a free iMac.
- macdaddy23, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Under most states lemon laws he should have.
- pu-z, on 10/10/2007, -7/+60It's not that unusual for Apple to hand out free extras when they ***** up. It happened to me when I bought a keyboard from them. The first one had a slanted space button, making it difficult to type with. I called, they sent a new one along with a return box. The new one had American keyboard, not Norwegian and made it damn near impossible to use in daily life. New call, new UPS guy on the door with another keyboard. This time, they gave me the old model instead of the new one. I called, complained, the lady at the end was disappointed at the service I had gotten.
So I said: "How about a compensation"
She asked "What kind of compensation?"
"Well, I DO need a new mouse"
"OK, let me talk to my boss" ... two minutes passed "OK, we'll send you a free Bluetooth mouse as compensation for the trouble, is that OK?"
"Yes, it is".
I always liked the old keyboard better anyways. :)- insomniac8400, on 10/10/2007, -8/+2So you weren't mad and got them to give you a free mouse anyways. Nice to know apple gives free stuff away to people that don't need it, but is weasling out of servicing iphones because people unlocked them. All while unlocking is a standard practice in gsm phones, and considering the iphone rebrands itself when on another network, it was designed to be unlock just like all other gsm phones.
- ersnyder, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That is the dumbest ***** I've ever read on Digg.
- Steinr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7I like that. People still have patience and the company still cared. But I do like the new keyboard much more than the old one.
- Klink258, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0For those who know the TechComedy website...
I NEED A NEW MOOOOOOUUUUUSEEEE!
- insomniac8400, on 10/10/2007, -8/+2So you weren't mad and got them to give you a free mouse anyways. - Indy16, on 10/10/2007, -17/+7Marketing stunt, courtesy of Apple's PR department.
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Marketing stunt? By saying that a customer's iMac was toast three times in a row? Yes, I'm sure EVERY company wants to get out that kind of publicity.
- tnoy, on 10/10/2007, -25/+8If I have to have my computer replaced three times, a little mp3 player is not going to suddenly make up for dealing with the ***** product.
- max1574, on 10/10/2007, -10/+5its better than apple telling you to get ***** and deal with it, you ungrateful *****.
- tdous, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Hahaha. What a tool.
- insomniac8400, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Other companies are much better at fixing. They actually replace motherboards, rather than just hand you a brand new computer with all your data still on the old one.
- fanclerks, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2They transfer the hard drives you idiot.
- ibeetle, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9...and yet 10's of thousands of people will send their XBox back to be replaced 11 times and still call it the greatest ever made; and not one of them got a free Zune.
- zybch, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3They weren't fickle enough to demand one.
- insomniac8400, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2Except all those people are extremly pissed. But had it been apple they would just praise apple for extending the warranty and bitch at everyone else for thinking a 6 week replacement time was bad. Make no mistake xbox owners are pissed, but it's not like the ps3 is an equal replacement and ps2 had their fair share of problems, so I wouldn't count the ps3 out. Plus a console is different than a pc use wise. Sometimes pcs are used for work and are very critical.

- Auzy, on 10/10/2007, -7/+15How is this news?
I work at a premium Apple reseller here in Aus, and there have been many times when customers have received hardware which has broken down a few timeswhich have had faulty components a few times, and Apple has replaced them with updated models for free.
And the guy probably paid full retail price for the computer initially anyway. There have been times we have done similar things when they have paid full retail.
And Steve Job's office is probably pretty big. It wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't just forwarded on to a random Applecare guy to handle.
As I said, since I have been working at the reseller, I have seen at least 6 cases of hardware being upgraded for free to newer models. That being said though, the Intel's have been such stable computers (with the exception of the initial MacBook Pro's) that I wouldn't expect it to happen that often anymore.
Also, that being said, don't go to an Apple reseller with constant software issues, thinking that the machine will get upgraded that way, it wont. And Apple will not always swap the computer over either, but Apple (at least in Australia) seem to be pretty good with hardware that has had multiple failures.- zybch, on 10/10/2007, -7/+5Look, I sell computers, and if the client keeps having issues with a particular part over and over through a couple of replacements I will generally just give them the next model up as compensation for their lost time and trouble.
So please tell me WHY THE ***** apple should get so much praise for doing wat pretty much any other company that proclaims to care about its users would do as a matter of course! - insomniac8400, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Don't forget they also always want you to take your crap into the apple store. I had a friend whose hp laptop died, he got a shipment box the same day, and got his laptop fixed and returned the next day without leaving his house. It wasn't a replacement with all his data gone, but same laptop with motherboard replace. Now that is real service.
- Auzy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Umm.. Apple do that too insomniac. And Apple want you to take it to an Applecentre only because most issues are software and can be fixed on the spot. Here in Aus, HP dont do that. They are worse then apple, and took a month to fix my HP
Apple has policies in place in aus to get everything fixed in a fortnight

- sbgskl, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9According to a friend who works at Apple, the sjobs@apple.com emails are read by a marketing team. It's stories like these on Digg that show it's working. It'd be insane for a CEO to publicize his actual personal email address; he'd be deluged with emails and get no work done. As an advertising technique though, it's brilliant.
- zybch, on 10/10/2007, -7/+5Look, I sell computers, and if the client keeps having issues with a particular part over and over through a couple of replacements I will generally just give them the next model up as compensation for their lost time and trouble.

Updates do that to hacked files, deal with it dumbass. Apple shouldn't be wasting their time fixing issues caused by dumbasses who were ignorant enough to ignore the warnings.
- shortarabguy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4People don't like being told why they're wrong, but fortunately people are also generally too lazy to digg you down. dugg.
- shortarabguy, on 10/10/2007, -5/+3Because they dropped the price of the iPhone? You ***** just never take a handout, do you? Take a freebie and be grateful, or at least stop complaining. Basic economics dictates that if you value something at 600 dollars, then it's worth 600 dollars and they can charge you... you guessed it, 600 dollars. Maybe if you had to get the iPhone in order to keep your job or something, then you'd have a right to complain, but you went out and bought that piece of garbage for 600 dollars like a tool. According to the Apple cult members I've encountered, it is physically impossible for a Mac to ever have a problem under any circumstances. - mushoo, on 10/10/2007, -10/+24I'm no apple fan-boy but they do provide great costumer service, at least in my experience.
I bought a used 2g iPod from smalldog.com back in 2002 . I never upgraded because the thing wouldn't die and I haven't liked any of the click-wheel-button combinations on the newer models. Sadly the fire-wire port eventually worn out from all plugging and unplugging over the last five years, and would no longer sync up with my PC. Besides that it still worked remarkably well. I figured I would just continue using it until the urge to load new music into it became so great that I would just give in and buy one of the newer models.
A month later I find myself at the Apple store playing around with the newer models. Just for kicks, I decide to see how much Apple would charge me to fix the fire-wire port on the broken one. The first "genius" tells me the only option is just to hand it in to them for a 25% discount for the purchase of a new one. I reply that "I'll think about it." After playing some more with the newer models and the iPhone I decide to just though it out, thinking that it won't be long before they release a touch-screen iPod .
Not more than a week later the frustration of not being able to listen to new music on my iPod drives me back to the Apple Store. On the way to the store I find myself regretting the idea of doing away with my trusty old friend and decide to go to another Apple store to get a second opinion from another "genius." I guess I must have lucked out, because the guy who helped me out at this different store said that Apple would definitely fix it for me, at a charge of course. While logging my info into the system he came across a problem, and told me that regrettably my only two options would now be the 25% discount, or getting a 2g refurbished unit for $250. With my hope dashed once again I thanked the guy and left the store.
To my surprise the guy caught up with me as I was about to drive away. He told me that he had figured out how to get it fixed. Once back inside the store he proceeded to explain that he would log into the system that the problem with the iPod was not the fire-wire port but a battery problem instead. There would still be a charge but it would only be $70, which is what they usually charge for an out of warranty battery replacement. I thought this was a great deal and agreed. I turned in the ipod, thanked the guy and left.
A week later I get a call from the store informing me that I can come and pick up my repaired unit. To my great astonishment, once there I find that Apple didn't just fix the fire-wire port but instead replaced my old unit with a glossy scratch-free refurbished 2G unit. I happily paid the 70 bucks and left.
Hopefully this unit will last me as long as the other one did, or until I'm pleased with one of the new incarnations of it. Whenever that is I won't even think of purchasing from anyone but Apple due to their great customer service. (that is unless some other company comes out with a really kick ass portable media player that makes me want to stop using my 2G ipod)- tizz66, on 10/10/2007, -12/+2I stopped reading your post when you said 'costumer'. I fail to understand how people manage to spell 'customer' wrong. 'Costumer' doesn't even SOUND right...
- insomniac8400, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Its a form response from an apple employee.
- rarson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You know that "costumer" is a word, right?
- zybch, on 10/10/2007, -12/+6For the record, you ARE a fanboy. Just saying you're not doesn't change the fact that you praised Apple for resolving your problem when it fact it was the actions of a genius bar guy who dishonestly/fraudulently lodged your faulty iPod for a completely different reason than the actual problem, and knowing that he would be ripping his employer (apple) off more than $200 by submitting a false repair reason.
I sure hope that guy never works for me. He'd be fired within a week if he did that sort of ***** again!
Now, truthfully, its not really a good experience you had with Apple then is it.
STOP giving apple credit where it deserves none!- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9"I sure hope that guy never works for me. He'd be fired within a week if he did that sort of ***** again!"

- shortarabguy, on 10/10/2007, -8/+3It took them a week to give you a different iPod? How do you condone that kind of waiting time? If they were just tossing my iPod I would have preferred to just get it within a few days rather than go through the whole charade of getting my iPod "fixed".
- mercurysquad, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10To cut it short, ^ guy gets 2g used iPod replaced for a refurbished one at $70.
- reddikilowatt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Sounds like you should be praising the Apple employee, for hacking the customer care system to get you the best deal. The other two employees, who just did what the company told them to do, are the real face of Apple. I'm not condemning them, just saying that some employees follow the letter of the handbook, and some follow the spirit.
- zybch, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The spirit? By costing their employer a LOT of potential money by submitting a fraudulent repair report??
Actually that makes sense. Apple has always been a bit fraudulent, just look at their 'I'm a mac..." averts.
- zybch, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The spirit? By costing their employer a LOT of potential money by submitting a fraudulent repair report??
- yourmightyruler, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The guys at the Genius bar are usually stuck-up egotistical Apple fanboys. They always think you caused the problem.

- tdous, on 10/10/2007, -10/+41I bought a melon the other day. I got it home, vowing to eat that melon bastard. Sadly, on cutting it open, I discovered it was bad on the inside. All rotten and mushy in a way this particular type of melon should not be. Obviously I had Steve Jobs email address and my hands hovered over my new ergonomic iMac keyboard for a minute before I resolved to return the melon myself and not bother poor Steve.
Anyway, to cut a long story medium-length, I returned that frigging melon once, received another bad one, and a second time to no further success? This was the last straw.
"Dear Steve, as you know, I have your email address from that time your flew over my town throwing business cards out of a helicopter..." I began, and continued to explain my harrowing story. Within 2 hours - seriously, 2 hours - I received a reply. Attached to the email was a bag of 20 fresh melons picked straight from the vine or whatever by Steve himself. I cut into the largest and, to my surprise, found 3 working iPod Think2Touch development models - you know, the ones you control with your mind (many people are concerned about how the typical Apple user with manage this feat but so far I've had no problems) - how cool is that?!
Anyway, the close this down, since then I have proposed marriage and, despite being rejected by Steve, we do meet up every day after he's finished with all the other Apple customers.
I love him.
Please ignore the whole phone thing that's been going on recently.

I think its also nice to hear a story like this, other than iPhone.

"They wouldn't give him a free iPhone? Boo, Apple sucks, etc." - reddikilowatt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Most large companies that deal directly with the public have a group of people who handle customers who "get through" to the CEO. I have had to work with these sorts of issues on several occasions, and was normally well aware of the problem the customer was having prior to them contacting the CEO's office. The nice thing about it was I tended to get a little more push behind me to get the issue resolved, and in one case, was finally able to convince the customer that the problem was not my network, but his firewall (college IT people are the hardest people in the world to work with, because they already know everything... but that's another story).
- iQuinn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2FYI: It is normal for Apple to give out new products when there are too many problems over too short period of time. - CryptiniteDemon, on 10/10/2007, -5/+0Yeah, we keep seeing more and more of these blogs, but all it tells me is that apple sends out one crappy piece of hardware after another. That's like 20 blogs now where people have had to send their hardware back several times because the new version they got craps out. Oh yay for customer service, but it's still a pain in the ass when you have to replace a product three ***** times to get it right.

- compgeek, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1good on the contact guy for getting this customer what he needed and going above and beyond and saying for your trouble here's a free Ipod. I've ran into few places that would offer that kind of service to keep a loyal customer the stores that have done similar with me probably reapy 10x more in repeat and word of mouth referral business (local computer store actually gave me a psu and fan I was buying normal cost of $150 for $100 simply because I was a student) they may have taken a loss on my purchase but I have since referred my friends there and his business has now grown over 3x as large just due to students and knowing that service and parts get a decent discount (I only buy parts I do all my own building and servicing)
