- DreKor, on 10/09/2008, -2/+6Linux people really want a Blackberry? RIM is pretty much the epitome of closed systems.

I know
I test Blackberries all day long
and I own an iPhone - DreKor, on 10/09/2008, -2/+4I test Blackberries too! We should totally have a party sometime, off the clock, without RIM.
- Hindu_Wardrobe, on 10/09/2008, -1/+4I use Linux, and personally love my Blackberry.
- bootup, on 10/10/2008, -0/+2Not the point- I'd prefer the Freerunner over a Blackberry though. Allot of IT guys get issues these things who NEED support for GNU/Linux. Then they do something like this? Another reason not to get a Blackberry.
- migitalwarfare, on 10/10/2008, -0/+2@bootup - do something like what, expand their support level to another OS? yeah, that's just childish
- 4NDr01D, on 10/09/2008, -4/+6and suckage
- BossKey, on 10/09/2008, -6/+4Linux people keep saying the beauty of the system is that it's so open you can build whatever you need...so RIM and the rest of us said fine, why don't you go and do that then.
- noerrorsfound, on 10/09/2008, -0/+5M-M-M-M-M-M-MONSTER IGNORANCE!
- Roryking, on 10/10/2008, -0/+2At least the Linux community will try to write something, as opposed to the Mac community that only crybabys about a private company not supporting their crappy platform
- migitalwarfare, on 10/15/2008, -0/+1funny, since the article states exactly the opposite, and the only crybabies in the comments are Linux users.
- ilgaz, on 10/10/2008, -0/+2Why are you crying? Buy from companies who gives support to your OS of your choice. Minimal at least.

- TracerBulletNPI, on 10/09/2008, -1/+4I second that. The Blackberry syncing situation on windows is just as abysmal. When I used a BB, before switching back to windows mobile, the syncing drove me nuts. The periodic, by design, wiping of all the data off the device when it's memory filled was the last straw (what kind of software engineer thought that was a good idea?)...
- onelikeseabass, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1Memory management on BlackBerry's is crap. However, wiping of all data? Wrong. Only SMS messages and Phone Logs are wiped when memory levels are critical.
I'm not saying that's a good thing either, but it's definitely a lot better than erasing everything like you said.

- bonds, on 10/09/2008, -2/+5There's something to be proud of
- bootup, on 10/10/2008, -0/+2It amazes me that people brag about Mac as if it is something to be proud of. Apple is worse than Microsoft with its lock-ins and THEY CHARGE YOU MORE FOR IT! I guess Mac users are too stupid to realize everybody is laughing at them who has a clue. I have to admit the premium price is not my objection what-so-ever. I've paid 3 times the amount for better service/decent hardware for GNU/Linux. It's the scams Microsoft & Apple pull that irritate me.
- jonshipman, on 10/09/2008, -2/+9Congrats! Here's your pat on the back so well deserved!
- ncc74656m, on 10/09/2008, -11/+4Honestly, who cares? Serious businesses use Windows.
:P
FTA: "Now if Microsoft would just make the Zune compatible, then Macs would finally be just like real computers." lol- bootup, on 10/10/2008, -0/+2Businesses that survive use GNU/Linux, businesses that eventually go bankrupt use MS Windows, and companies that never get off the ground use Mac.
- mgill3, on 10/09/2008, -4/+2bout *****' time.
Also: Mactastic! WTF? lol - 4NDr01D, on 10/09/2008, -7/+2the only overlap between RIM BlackBerry users and Apple are Verizon customers

there is a huge churn rate of BB users switching to iPhones
with good reason, they are fed up with such a crappy OS on the Berry- dvoddo, on 10/09/2008, -2/+3lol
- moog, on 10/09/2008, -1/+2This is all hearsay. The proof is in the pudding...where's your pudding?
- miken32, on 10/09/2008, -0/+6There are thousands of people using Blackberries for work, who have no ability or inclination to replace it with an iPhone. Work is what they're meant for, although you wouldn't know it looking at this software. If I want to listen to music I've got an iPod. How about they let me sync my Exchange contacts without firing up a virtual Windows machine.
- onelikeseabass, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1If you are using Exchange, why not pony up and get a BES (BlackBerry Enterprise Server). No need for cables then as all data is synchronized wirelessly.
- sgglynn, on 10/09/2008, -1/+3The systems and networks group in our IT department tried switching to iPhone's. Their responses to problems went from a short description of the problem and what was fixed to "call you in 5 mins" so they could call me and explain the issue. People who use blackberry's for fun might be switching, but people who use it for business will want to stick with blackberry's.
- PEMDAS, on 10/09/2008, -4/+11Does anyone know if they are hiring? I'd like a RIMjob.

- NathanielJ, on 10/09/2008, -0/+5The headline on my University's homepage for a while last year was "RIM Job Fair This Week".
Ah, good times. - rpgguy1o1, on 10/09/2008, -0/+3I actually just started my position here at RIM on Monday but I've been using that joke for over a month solid now, people are starting to get really sick of it.
- itsbob, on 10/09/2008, -0/+8Yes, apply online at RIMjobs.com
- NecroDigg, on 10/09/2008, -9/+7Buried as inaccurate. Everyone knows Mac users use only Apple products, and have iPhones not BlackBerries.
- PhineasPoe, on 10/09/2008, -3/+5I use a Mac and I would never trade my Curve for an iPhone.
- BoneheadFarker, on 10/09/2008, -2/+4Well, except when the businesses they work at use Blackberries because of the Exchange Server integration that you can't get in the iPhone. But other then that...
- macslut, on 10/09/2008, -0/+5The iPhone now has better Exchange Server integration than BlackBerry, not much better as the BlackBerry is pretty close to 100%, but the difference is that Apple licensed ActiveSync and the iPhone can go directly to your Exchange Server of choice as opposed to hopping through the RIM servers in Canada...which have been known to go down.
- smirkypants, on 10/09/2008, -1/+2AT&T < Blackberry < iPhone
It's a conundrum.- ericsabourin, on 10/09/2008, -0/+1Coffee Tables < Cats < Dogs
- BoneheadFarker, on 10/09/2008, -0/+2Rick Moranis < a meatball sandwich with cheese < Pluto (the stellar object, not the cartoon dog)
- peestandingup, on 10/09/2008, -4/+4This is just a better media sync tool, like the current PocketMac, just hopefully less sucky. Why the hell cant they make the full on Desktop Manager Mac compatible so we can actually, you know, update our phone's software & stuff like that is beyond me.
Why dont you try harder, RIM?? - raublekick, on 10/09/2008, -1/+2I guess if you really need it this is a good thing. I'm a Linux user and have been using my Blackberry Pearl for about 6 months with no need for the bundled software. I have a machine with Windows too, but really I've just never been inclined to use the software.
- syda, on 10/09/2008, -3/+6RIMM is the stock symbol as listed on the NASDAQ - it's not a typo.
I've seen people refer to Apple as AAPL, Microsoft as MSFT, and IBM as IBM.- NathanielJ, on 10/09/2008, -1/+2Yeah, I always see those headlines that say things like "MSFT release new ads to compete against AAPL."
- CMuffa, on 10/09/2008, -1/+2Did you mean IBMM?
- ZigVicious, on 10/09/2008, -0/+4Yeah, those people who refer to IBM as IBM are weird...
- spectre_25gt, on 10/09/2008, -2/+5As far as I can see, you still can't upgrade the firmware on a Mac. Fail.
- latin69, on 10/09/2008, -2/+4A bit late now isn't it?
- tehmark, on 10/09/2008, -13/+3hmm, blackberry = useless
mac = useless
seems like a great match- syda, on 10/09/2008, -0/+9watch nascar much?
- Shaman760, on 10/09/2008, -0/+3I wish Verizon would pull their heads out of their asses and get Mac Friendly. If a Verizon rep says that a phone of theirs is "Mac compatible" do us all a favor and punch them in the mouth for being a DAMN LIAR.
- johnpaul191, on 10/09/2008, -0/+3I agree 100%. I even broke down and paid the $40 for Missing Sync and have had a bear of a time getting it to work properly (and lost lots of phone numbers in the process).
I realize that RIM is responsible for the software, not Verizon, but Verizon's sales reps mislead you into thinking it'll work. At least AT&T offers the ultimate MAc compatible cell phone.... verizon kind of strands you.- vault, on 10/10/2008, -0/+3Is Missing Sync crap? I'm a mac user on Verizon, and I was thinking about getting the Blackberry Storm when it comes out...was going to rely on that.
- onelikeseabass, on 10/10/2008, -0/+2Missing Sync is total garbage. There's seemingly no rhyme or reason why it doesn't work. I think the driver the Mac uses to talk to the BlackBerry is at fault, but I'm no engineer.
- johnpaul191, on 10/09/2008, -0/+3I agree 100%. I even broke down and paid the $40 for Missing Sync and have had a bear of a time getting it to work properly (and lost lots of phone numbers in the process).
- macslut, on 10/09/2008, -1/+2I can understand people using Windows desktops and notebooks for a given company. And I can understand using a BlackBerry as a Windows user at the same company. What I don't understand is using a BlackBerry with a Mac as opposed to an iPhone. It would be interesting to see what the numbers are for this.
- Sambora, on 10/10/2008, -0/+2How about because a BlackBerry =/= iPhone and they are two very different devices.
- jwoulf, on 10/09/2008, -4/+3I love working as tech support, especially because I get to tell mac users "No, our products don't work with mac" and "No, we are not going to start supporting Apple products"

Aw *****, someone already made the joke - bootup, on 10/10/2008, -2/+2When RIM open sources everything I'll switch. Until then I'll stick with a Freerunner.
- ScottyDelicious, on 10/10/2008, -0/+2I have been a Mac user for the last 11 years. There is no AT&T coverage in my area, but I bought a used iPhone on ebay, jailbroke, unlocked, and activated it as a PAYG. It is an incredible device. I WISH I could use it as a phone (works fine when I get to a populated area). I am intensely interested in the BlackBerry Storm since there is great verizon coverage in my area. I have a feeling that the Storm could be the greatest phone since, well... since the iPhone, but the experience of syncing has the potential to make it so painful that many Storm users may end up finding it more useful as a suppository.
I would love to see an iTunes SIMBL bundle to handle syncing the BlackBerry devices just like the iPhone. That would be rad. - jer2eydevil88, on 10/10/2008, -0/+3You mean I need to sync my portable device? Isn't that the whole reason Android is going to own the market in a year or two...
- ilgaz, on 10/10/2008, -0/+3Dear RIM, Nokia, Sony, Samsung and possibly MS Windows Mobile division.
Too late guys, you are wasting your money. I am saying as a guy who had to run MS Virtual PC to backup his smart phone. Too late. Your image isn't bad on Mac land, you don't simply exist.
For 5 years you just couldn't buy a low end Mac (e.g. Mini) and run XCode eh? Yes that was all you needed for developing for Mac. - erickdan, on 10/10/2008, -1/+2Try RIM not RIMM
