- jordanwlee, on 07/09/2008, -3/+27.Mac will crash one last time tonight....
:( - dfnj123, on 07/10/2008, -11/+0"CRIES"
:(
You will be missed! - edkrk, on 07/10/2008, -5/+8I'm gonna miss it a lot. I guess it's part of Apple's transition from Mac-centricity to being a "product company". Very sad.
- vault, on 07/10/2008, -27/+38dot mac was stupid anyway. Why would anyone pay $100/yr. just to get an @mac.com email address?
- killerknives, on 07/10/2008, -11/+45yeah, that's exactly right, .Mac didn't have any features like wireless syncing or 10gb of storage or anything everyone just really wanted the @mac.com. you're a genius
- vault, on 07/10/2008, -9/+26Oh wow a whole 10 gb of storage! Can't get that anywhere else!
Definitely no way to sync either. - ryleyleckie, on 07/10/2008, -11/+20@vault: what he's getting at is that the $100/yr wasn't "just to get an @mac.com email address"
whether .mac was a unique service or not was beside the point.
douche. - knuckles, on 07/11/2008, -2/+12.mac also hosts your domain. I have 6 parked on it right now. Pricey? Sure. But damn easy to operate.
- vault, on 07/11/2008, -1/+2@ryley Yes it was. You guys are just vain and wanted to see yourname@mac.com and then pretend it was actually worth it.
I pay the mac premium for my computers, I'm not going to pay the mac premium for what amounts to an email address and little else considering it's all free elsewhere.
- vault, on 07/10/2008, -9/+26Oh wow a whole 10 gb of storage! Can't get that anywhere else!
- JeffMaster, on 07/10/2008, -2/+6I'm pretty sure you could pay less for just the email address.. though... maybe that option was taken away
- nakile, on 07/10/2008, -4/+19People liked .Mac because of how well it integrated with OS X. It was more like an extension of the OS and not a separate service.
Although I never did pay $99 a year for .Mac. But if you could afford it and own a Mac, it's worth it. - Asshate, on 07/10/2008, -13/+4I say ***** apple. I bought an ibook in 2001 and part of the attraction was the free email and hosting. "email address for life" it said, what a crock of *****. I dumped the service as soon as they started charging and never bought a mac again.
- DanMiller, on 07/11/2008, -2/+6Way to show em!...
- jd72277, on 07/11/2008, -2/+6What a good reason to never buy Apple again, over a stupid $100 email upset.
- Aggaman, on 07/11/2008, -1/+4You sure schooled Apple, bro. They've never recovered from this ownage.
- kelly, on 07/11/2008, -4/+7"Why would anyone pay $100/yr. just to get an @mac.com email address?"
You wouldn't. dot mac was SO much more than just an email address. - MrPat8oHed, on 10/09/2008, -0/+1I used .Mac for a year and along with the 10GB of storage, and the iPhoto web gallery, I also liked the iDisk back up sync. I didn't like the price tag but I tried it so I could have a wireless way to back up important files.
- fadeout, on 07/11/2008, -0/+2The only reason I got it was iDisk and Safari sync, was pretty useful for University stuff when I was hopping between 2 computers. Not worth $99, frankly, but better than emailing ***** to myself over and over again.
And now I'm stuck because i don't want to switch email addresses. :(
- killerknives, on 07/10/2008, -11/+45yeah, that's exactly right, .Mac didn't have any features like wireless syncing or 10gb of storage or anything everyone just really wanted the @mac.com. you're a genius
- HookmasterCH47, on 07/10/2008, -4/+26Why did they have to change the name? I loved .Mac. MobileMe seems like just another log on the "Mac users are all conceited douche bags" fire...
- Rezistik, on 07/11/2008, -3/+7They aren't?
- sjolliff, on 07/11/2008, -0/+3Because they want to cash in on that whole myspace / facebook teenie bopper stuff. As long as I have my idisk I don't care what they do with the rest of it.
I don't use the email address but I agree with others. I'll never be a "me" person. - rasmasyean, on 07/11/2008, -4/+1It's a lot better than .stevejobsblindfollowers
- MacParrot, on 07/11/2008, -0/+2mobileme is Apple's way of changing .mac to suit a larger potential customer base than just Mac users. Chances are more people that use Windows will buy iPhones than Mac users.
- killerknives, on 07/10/2008, -0/+18I'm keeping the @mac.com, for some reason I really don't like the @me.com, just doesn't feel right.
- Bolarg, on 07/10/2008, -0/+10Agreed. me.com sounds too self-absorbed for my taste.
- d1a1s1, on 07/10/2008, -0/+6Do you get a choice? When and how?
- josereyes0, on 07/10/2008, -0/+5You can keep .mac if you already had a .mac account prior to me.com's release.
- d1a1s1, on 07/11/2008, -1/+5Ok good cause Im all about me but I dont need to be advertising it ;)
- AlexBellisBrown, on 07/10/2008, -7/+20I´m sorry, but i still belive only fanboys should get a me.com address. Its just so far up ones own arse.
- saggygrandma, on 07/11/2008, -0/+7you can create alias email addresses so I took the opportunity to reserve some cool one's for spam etc a few days ago.
ie xxxx AT ME dot com
ideas:
flashyourboobies@me.com
throwspam@me.com
- saggygrandma, on 07/11/2008, -0/+7you can create alias email addresses so I took the opportunity to reserve some cool one's for spam etc a few days ago.
- JeffMaster, on 07/10/2008, -2/+13personally, I like the name 'dotmac' a lot more that 'mobile me' it just... sounds... windowsy
- TriZz, on 07/10/2008, -0/+12I dunno, there's new things you can do with @me.com address. I know a guy who got holla@me.com -- which, beyond it's gangsta-ness, is kinda cool and original.
- Atomic1fire, on 07/11/2008, -0/+2Shout@me
yell@me
shoot@me (the most gangster one yet)
getthecopstoshoot@me (another gangster one)- redwallhp, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1tase@me?

- kiwifish, on 07/10/2008, -4/+2A heads-up: http://me.com just went live for me! Check it out - way slicker than the old .mac web apps.
- audiologic, on 07/10/2008, -0/+3Was for me too...but now it redirects again :(
- kiwifish, on 07/10/2008, -1/+2Huh, and then it popped a "Cannot communicate with MobileMe servers" error, and it's gone again. They're toying with us!
- myhandleondigg, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1works for me, not sure why you're getting dug down.
- mossblaser, on 07/11/2008, -0/+3"We recommend the following browsers..."
wtf - firefox 3 not good enough!? - redwallhp, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1Looks great. (I can't get past the login screen though because I'm not going to spend $100 on something that's useless to me since I can't afford an iPhone...)
- DanPlainview, on 07/10/2008, -2/+4Hmm. And I never even got to say hello.
- baseballerkra, on 07/11/2008, -15/+9saying goodbye to .mac and hello to .fag
- bubut, on 07/11/2008, -1/+3lulz
- MacParrot, on 07/11/2008, -4/+3So good of you to come out of the closet. And on such a large network as digg.
- phqu88, on 07/11/2008, -2/+1You need to go back in macparrort...nobody wants you, not even your mom.
- SlpingInsomniac, on 07/11/2008, -1/+3Holy clever! If that comment was anymore clever my head would probably explode from HOW FREAKIN' CLEVER that was.
Not even kidding. Clever.
You're so clever.
I can't get over it.
- KyleMistry, on 07/11/2008, -0/+6.Mac didn't become crappy. It just never changed while everything else did. There're things out there that do all that .Mac does and more. The only thing .Mac offers, really, is better integration with Macs. And I'm sure that for saving $100 a year, that little bit of "better integration" can be sacrificed.
- redwallhp, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1Their webhosting has been $&*@ from the start though. I'd never use a host that doesn't have PHP, MySQL. MobileMe sounds great though, if you have an iPhone.
P.S. I'm a Mac user, and a web developer. Odd that I'm criticizing Apple, but I can't believe they'd charge people for, basically, GeoCities.- mrgermy, on 07/11/2008, -0/+0As a fellow Mac user and web designer/developer I totally agree. I had it for awhile but only because my (yeah I know. .) mom was paying for it because she wanted some of the features. As soon as she didn't want it any more I didn't continue on paying it.
The whole back-to-my-mac thing is a wicked cool feature (though still buggy) but again, something you can do free with other services.
.Mac/MobileMe is really for those people who don't know how to go about getting all those other services and/or are too lazy to do it and want it all in one place. Those same people who give Mac's a bad name.
- mrgermy, on 07/11/2008, -0/+0As a fellow Mac user and web designer/developer I totally agree. I had it for awhile but only because my (yeah I know. .) mom was paying for it because she wanted some of the features. As soon as she didn't want it any more I didn't continue on paying it.

- verkon, on 07/11/2008, -1/+1The what now is ending?
- spacebuddy, on 07/11/2008, -1/+2.me is still not working
- Palaceguard, on 07/11/2008, -0/+4mobileme nor .mac is working
- kaaBOOM, on 07/11/2008, -2/+3They can rebrand it as many times as they like. They still won't get my business. I'm still pissed that they took away my original "Free E-Mail For Life". If you like to pay for what should be free. Dot.mac, or Moble Me or what ever you want to call it is for you.
- r3zonance, on 07/11/2008, -0/+2"If you like to pay for what should be free."
Yes because Exchange (which Mobile Me is for 'the rest of us') is free also isn't it?
And businesses never have high charges internally when recharging Exchange mailboxes either?
/sarcasm- redwallhp, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1I believe he was talking about the old iTools. Free email and remote storage...and then they rebranded it .mac and took it away.
- r3zonance, on 07/11/2008, -0/+2"If you like to pay for what should be free."
- michaelnojutsu, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1they should at least call it iMe
- Atomic1fire, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1MeOnline sounds good
- ikrit2006, on 07/11/2008, -6/+1Wow, they use IMAP... amazing...
- Philbert, on 07/11/2008, -0/+4bye.
- myhandleondigg, on 07/11/2008, -1/+1Does this website scroll super slow on anybody else's computer?
- flarn2006, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1No.
- r3zonance, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1No. Unless you're running windows and IE that is
- flarn2006, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1No.
- X9001, on 07/11/2008, -1/+1Both @'s sound really pretentious
- Niightwitch, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1"@mac" doesn't sound pretentious, but "@me" certainly does.
- ZephyrNinety, on 07/11/2008, -1/+5NOOO! Putting "me" on the end of any software makes it fail terribly!
- flarn2006, on 07/11/2008, -0/+4What about Windows ME? Oh, right...
- mrgermy, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1I see what you did there
- flarn2006, on 07/11/2008, -0/+4What about Windows ME? Oh, right...
- jacklink01, on 07/11/2008, -1/+0Here is how you can stay up to date with the mac.com and me.com's page status:
http://digg.com/apple/MobileMe_Status_Checker - flarn2006, on 07/11/2008, -1/+1iTools > .Mac
- nbeighley, on 07/11/2008, -1/+2.Mac is dead...what a coincidence...so is mobileMe!!! As a paying subscriber, it blows my mind that the service has been down nearly 12 hours now!!!
- KaneElson, on 07/11/2008, -3/+2But the Apple fanboys will still support it :)
Apple can do no evil... - r3zonance, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1Really it "blows your mind" how a web based service with is generally not really accessed (from the web at least) suddenly leaps to most likely somewhere in the region of 1 million people trying to use the web-based service at once to see "how it works now" isn't going to take that site down, no matter what amount of planning goes into it.
I seriously hope you aren't involved in IT in anyway. - redwallhp, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1The email servers are still up, and I'll be you can access them via POP3/IMAP.
- KaneElson, on 07/11/2008, -3/+2But the Apple fanboys will still support it :)
- zardoz73, on 07/11/2008, -1/+3I've recently "switched" (but not really) to a Mac last year, and didn't know anything about .mac. It seems like it would be a nice service to use, but why in hell would anyone pay for it? If this new service is free--like everything else on the Internet--I'll definitely check it out.
Apple has more money than God, why not front some money for this and build an online foothold? - abajaj2280, on 07/11/2008, -1/+2never knew you, never cared, and i'll never miss you.
- abrandnewday, on 07/11/2008, -2/+0Hey great information. I have a .mac account. When I first purchased the MAC .mac was very helpful. I would use it for helpful hints, etc. Then the Apple Site really took off and .mac was not as much in demand anymore. I guess if you are not a MAC user and if you never used all the .mac had to offer I would understand how one would say the .mac account was not worth paying for. If you took full advantage of a MAC and used the MAC Web Pages for integrating your movies, pictures, etc. you would find that the .mac account did offer some beneficial services. To me, being new to the MAC world the .mac account was worth the $100.00.
- Asshate, on 07/11/2008, -1/+2Take jobs' ***** out our your mouth when you speak to me.
- Qiler, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1Awwww.... i thought that you meant all macs :(...
- alphadog, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1So far I am not impressed. Two days without my email account. Way to go Apple.
As a new customer to the whole .mac community; this does not bode well in my opinion.
I expect this type of service to be available 24/7. Will Apple extend my service for the
time that it has been inaccessible?- dlowder, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1iDisk and their IMAP mail servers are still working -- only the web applications (web mail, etc.) are down.
- mikeopubco, on 07/11/2008, -0/+1Remember when Jobs announced the mac.com email addresses that were going to be ours free forever? Yeah, that lasted what, a couple of years. Nothing surprises me about that service anymore.
- mrgermy, on 07/11/2008, -0/+0Remember when Microsoft said Vista was going to be the best OS ever?
Take it all with a grain of salt.
