Steve Wozniak on the iPod, iPhone and future for Apple

telegraph.co.uk — Interview: Woz thinks that the downgrade on Apple shares was 'correct', doesn't like the limitations on the iPhone 3G, thinks the iPod is near the end of its dominance and thinks there might be an Apple watch in the near future.

I'm not saying that's a bad thing, and I'm not complaining. I'm just explaining why Woz disagrees with a lot of Apple's choices. And honestly, Apple could be run a lot more loosely by Jobs without losing it's flair, but he'd never do it.

    Alla Android, Zune, WMobile, etc, etc... etc.
    Just watch, the econo box will rule ALL at the current market rates.

        Unlike Apple.

        Everyone screams MS monopoly but in all reality as long you drink the 'platform kool-aid' you pretty much get free reign to write software that 90% of all computers can use on their existing machines.

        Apple doesn't allow that, Android(Google) and countless others do.
        The same mindset that killed Apple in the 80s will kill them now.

        Android has already responded and Windows Mobile has gotten its share of the market for the short time its been playing.

        What? Windows Mobile has had many years in the mobile market space, and over the last few years it's market share has almost HALVED ( from 20% down to 12% of the market).

      On the other hand, a simple remote control might be nice for things like snowboarding. This device would attach to the outside of my glove and would enable me to control my iPod, or make calls from my iPhone while on the mountain. That way, I'd have no need to remove my gloves and fish my iPhone out of some pocket.

Heck, Sony knew this when they killed the Clie PDAs, and moved into "music" cell phones. There will still be iPods, nanos if nothing else for the fitness crowd that doesn't want to smash up an iPhone.

    One more thing to note: RIM, Microsoft, (especially) Palm!! Get off your asses and make something we crave to buy! Android is already better than you mp3 player and mobile browser wise!!

    Just think about how 'big' portable time pieces must have been when they came out. And just as you throw your cell phone in your pocket, so did the gentlemen of yesterday throw their pocket watches in their... well pockets.

    Technology got smaller and then they were fastened to wrists for convenience. I've wondered when we'd start toting our computers on our wrists ala Predator.

    Although I would love to see Apple moves away from tightly controlling every aspect of their platforms, Apple as it is today is a reflexion of Steve and not Woz. As seeing the end of ipod dominance? Here in Australia it seems like half of the electric appliances sold nowadays have an ipod dock, haven't ever seen a zune dock or even someone with a zune. If somebody has an mp3 player other than ipod it is most often their mobile or a no-name cheapo chinese thingy. Maybe the market in the US is different or I manage to look at the wrong places. Does anyone have a reliable marketshare pie of mp3 players?

  • kreatre2007, on 10/08/2008, -3/+2Steve Wozniak created the products that launched Apple. It it were not for Wozniak, Apple may not even exist today. That being said, I am very thankful that Steve Wozniak put so much commitment and creativity into building wonderful and innovative designs. However... He needs to shut the hell up. He's a bit late to the party on this one. Apple is well aware of the things that he is talking about. That's why they are slowly transitioning the iPod into less than just a music and video player but, also a gaming and communications device. Apple knows how to evolve and grow. Wozniak did not. That's one of many reasons why he left Apple.
