TV News Displays Windows Photoshop on iPhone in Story
forums.mactalk.com.au — Someone at channel 9 has absolutely no friggin' clue or is a genius prankster. Check out what's on the home page of that iPhone seen on the Friday 6PM channel 9 news in Melbourne. There's even a button for Parallels on the iPhone's dock which isn't even out for the iPhone until 2009. The image they lifted originally sourced from kottke.org

- cmrn, on 06/19/2008, -3/+12A video of the news story would be interesting, just to see how convoluted the rest of the information was. But bravo to the guy at the Nine Network for getting that past muster.
- estvir, on 05/03/2008, -2/+1I'm not sure whether I should be ashamed or proud of Channel 9 (Basically, in Aus we have 3 huge/most popular TV stations and Channel 9 is one of them).. though, this was the 6 o'clock news session, so it's known for ridiculous stories and the like.

- nmnnotmyname, on 05/03/2008, -0/+2Channel 9 vs FOX News
who would win that?- 23MAL, on 05/03/2008, -0/+2FOX. they have Waaaaayyyyy more monies

- estvir, on 05/03/2008, -1/+1It'd be an epic battle for sure but unfortunately, Fox would win hands down. It may be better to instead of thinking of them as competitors, think of Channel 9 as Fox News' prodigy for the Australasian region.

- skunkman62, on 05/03/2008, -4/+25here is the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZ-97pxT3LU just kidding. its a rick roll
- defectDS, on 05/03/2008, -1/+8This happens all the time. They obviously just searched Google and picked the first picture they could find. In this case, it was this one:

Do a search for "parallels iphone." - LoneWolf01, on 05/03/2008, -0/+1Did anyone else notice that the words "Optus Deal" are written in Nokia's font?
Also, the iPhone still has the Cingular logo in the top left.

- estvir, on 05/03/2008, -0/+2Optus? Uh.. Hopefully the rumours of an unlocked one are true, I don't really want to go back to Optus.
- reemixx, on 05/02/2008, -3/+1Haha, either way that is awesome! :D
- JlmAWP, on 05/02/2008, -4/+49If I was responsible for graphics that went on-air, which would be read by people who are completely out-of-touch with technology, I'd probably do the exact same thing.
- cruzweb, on 05/03/2008, -1/+8I'd put NeXT on it.
- JlmAWP, on 05/03/2008, -3/+15I'd put Rick Astley on it. One frame Rick Roll. Who needs video?
- ufia, on 05/03/2008, -2/+3Speaking of being out-of-touch with technology, ever noticed the iPhone is rectangular shaped? The normal ergonomically shaped mobile phones was not feng shui enough for Mac fanboys? They prefer looking like a complete tool in public by holding a brick to their head when speaking over the phone?
- cruzweb, on 05/03/2008, -1/+8I'd put NeXT on it.
- jared79, on 05/02/2008, -5/+12No wonder channel 9's ratings are slipping when they can't even get their graphics right. Idiots.
- mohabitar, on 05/02/2008, -3/+201most complicated title ive ever read...
- Sashwan, on 05/02/2008, -8/+3Yes a title like "Windows XP running on an iPhone" would have been a lot better and more eye catching.
- sfacets, on 05/03/2008, -0/+3Except that would be LYING.
- Servebot, on 05/03/2008, -4/+1there was alot of information to convey
- coldeve, on 05/03/2008, -3/+31Maybe the words just needs to be rearranged then slightly change a couple of words
"Windows Photoshopped onto iPhone Display in TV News Story" - PimpinOnWelfare, on 05/03/2008, -2/+2But it all makes sense once you see it.
- agentlame, on 05/03/2008, -1/+6Further, the title implies that the Windows (version of) Photoshop was displayed on the phone.
My vote for a more succinct title would be:
"Local news depicts XP running on iPhone."
-OR-
"Local news fires graphic artiest." - kiplinght, on 05/06/2008, -0/+0I understood it. But I guess you are right, it's complicated
- Sashwan, on 05/02/2008, -8/+3Yes a title like "Windows XP running on an iPhone" would have been a lot better and more eye catching.
- 5DMT, on 05/02/2008, -10/+5At least its not Windows Mobile....
- JudgeMonkey, on 05/03/2008, -1/+3Yeah, I hate going to websites and streaming embedded content as well as all the software readily available without jumping through hoops having to seek Microsoft's approval to program for it.
- luchid, on 05/03/2008, -2/+1Streaming embedded content is also possible on the iPhone. At least with the iPhone you don't have to deal with a clumsy, convoluted, ass backwards, unstable OS and UI.
- JudgeMonkey, on 05/03/2008, -1/+3Yeah, I hate going to websites and streaming embedded content as well as all the software readily available without jumping through hoops having to seek Microsoft's approval to program for it.
- TheThirdLevel, on 05/02/2008, -5/+2Practical jokes ftw.

- RevoFM, on 05/03/2008, -0/+1They fail again.
- altinnovation, on 05/03/2008, -0/+2What's actually funny is that the Digg comment system is the biggest pile of ***** I've ever seen. Not only does the Duggmirror not work anymore, but when I submitted my post, it dissapeared after I pressed refresh. That way I couldn't edit it or do anything else.
Piece of *****.
- snagra, on 05/02/2008, -1/+4Even stuck a Parallels logo in there too, gotta try harder than that.
- MykeXX, on 05/02/2008, -4/+1Mirror?
- solidus636, on 05/02/2008, -3/+3I really want to know what the guy who photoshopped this was thinking at that very moment.
- CrimsonBlur, on 05/02/2008, -0/+25"I'm going to be famous on Digg. Mwahahaahaha!"
- Aidenf77, on 05/02/2008, -2/+31Oops, somebody did a quick google image search and nabbed the first result they saw. Either that or they thought it would be a good joke.
- basevillin, on 05/02/2008, -3/+2It only comes up first if you search with "iphone windows" and not just iphone.
- joshjx, on 05/03/2008, -1/+3i searched "iphone" on google, then clicked "images".... this was the first image!

- krnldmp, on 05/02/2008, -7/+4Something is wrong if you care.
- Startemus, on 05/02/2008, -6/+2Epic Fail.
- springo, on 05/02/2008, -2/+3So (nine)MSN couldn't just avoid a reference to Windows even on iPhone news...
- Vegabondsx, on 05/02/2008, -1/+2Not sure if that's funny or sad.
- Wootstapler, on 05/02/2008, -2/+1...how?
- swift, on 05/03/2008, -5/+3The original photo - http://www.kottke.org/07/01/iphone-running-paralle ...
Very Lazy and the graphics guy had no idea what an IPhone looks like...
***And no Parallels will not run on a IPhone! Different Arch. - homercles337, on 05/03/2008, -14/+5Hey look! ANOTHER macophile thread! What the ***** do you guys do with your life while youre not jackin' it to mac "news?"
- catachip, on 05/03/2008, -3/+3To revive an old phrase: Get bent!
- mrtrevin, on 05/03/2008, -1/+5This was a funny story dude, not a "Mac OSX pwns Windows" or vice versa. Nice that you take the time to insult people doing the exact same thing as you, without even discovering context of the article.
- OfNumbers, on 05/03/2008, -4/+1Please take my upmod as a "I totally ***** god damn all the way 100% agree." What the ***** ARE they doing? The only answer I can come up with is the IKEA brainwave syndrome, "I must collect this whole set!" even though next month the set will be discontinued and replaced. Still, it's shiny, they tell you to want it, you finance it, and now YOU MUST OBEY. This BIG ASS investment you just got suckered in to FORCES even the most dimwitted to comply, all in harmony, all in synchronization: We love Mac. We love Mac. We love Mac. We love Mac....
- JudgeMonkey, on 05/03/2008, -1/+1I use windows. I don't think I'll ever use a Mac again. But this story isn't about Mac, windows or anything else like that really. It's about a horrific blunder by someone we are supposed to expect SOME level of accuracy and research from.
- luchid, on 05/03/2008, -0/+1You know you DON'T HAVE TO ***** CLICK ON THE APPLE CATEGORY. Ughh. So many retards.
- senatorpjt, on 05/03/2008, -1/+5I'm surprised nobody tried to play this into a "Parallels working on iPhone!" story.
- NinjaPirateDude, on 05/03/2008, -1/+3my head just exploded...
- OfNumbers, on 05/03/2008, -6/+1So what? I see photoshops everywhere in day to day life. From pictures of babies on diaper packages, to models in clothing magazines, to "file photos" used by the AP. But when it touches on Mac, FREAK OUT PEOPLE.
- OfNumbers, on 05/03/2008, -0/+1Here's more absolute proof that right = negative mods.
http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/TheNote/story?id=31 ... - AP, ABC
NOBODY'S FREAKING OUT. WHAT IF THEY ***** CRASH THOSE THINGS? - ShinRaTDR, on 05/03/2008, -0/+1Who is freaking out besides you? All i've seen are possible explanations and jokes, as per usual digg commentary.
- OfNumbers, on 05/03/2008, -0/+1Here's more absolute proof that right = negative mods.
- woofers07, on 05/03/2008, -2/+7I also like how they skewed the apple logo a bit too, probably the biggest cardinal sins in any sort of graphic art.
- mindsnare, on 05/03/2008, -1/+3amen to that, it's bloody horribly done.
- DeezKnots, on 05/03/2008, -7/+2Fake. Video screen shot would look worse than that. Bogus.
- diemunkiesdie, on 05/03/2008, -1/+4Its a screen grab from an HD source. I know I can take a screen shot that looks that good from my HD tuner.
- onoffswitch, on 05/03/2008, -3/+2What is this... some sort of a "magical" iPhone... hummmph, i hope some got fired for that.....
- candyungirlish, on 05/03/2008, -1/+3The other day I saw IE popping out on an iPhone. It was an ad about wi-fi.
- muzza001, on 05/03/2008, -1/+2It's just because channel 9's website is www.ninemsn.com.au, So obviously channel 9 has a deal with microsoft, hense they put windows on the iPhone
- Pliep, on 05/03/2008, -1/+2The graphics in this TV programme are blindingly ugly anyway. This iPhone mistake is simply a continuation of a total lack of design principles.
- nebkiwi, on 05/03/2008, -0/+3http://www.kottke.org/07/01/iphone-running-paralle ... someone else posted that link ^ but it came up with a 404
- SystemError51, on 05/03/2008, -0/+2Looks like this is the source of the image used in the news story
- Echomote, on 05/03/2008, -0/+1Maybe it's a summerboard theme with all the icons hidden except the dock ones :p
- WiredBob, on 05/03/2008, -0/+1Ugh... a bastardisation of the lovely iPhone...
- juanej, on 05/04/2008, -0/+1vnc?
- samuelcotterall, on 05/04/2008, -0/+1There is a Dominos Pizza add in the UK, in which a guy is ordering a Pizza on his PC laptop, then we see his desktop (a video of the laptop, not a screencrab) it's running OSX.
- richthomas, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1could be Hackintosh?
but seriously we have an Home loan ad in Australia where a guy uses OS X on his PC laptop too. the iPhone and OS X are just too groovy!
- richthomas, on 05/05/2008, -0/+1could be Hackintosh?
- Trat, on 05/05/2008, -0/+0They actually knew what they where doing: they added a Parallels icon to the iPhone: that would be major kick in the nuts for WMobile...
- rroberts45, on 05/06/2008, -0/+1Whenever I see a news story, print or broadcast, on a topic I know well -- I'm always stunned at the reporter's lack of understanding of the topic. It's uncanny.
