macmothership.com — Ahhh, the good 'ol days when Apple and Microsoft despised each other. Here's an ad from 10 years ago showing Apple's Sarcastic side.....

- MoeB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i think many who didnt understand what that meant thought itwas a free publicity stunt.
- TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Pfft. RECYCLING is much better for the earth. You'd think a hippie like Jobs would know that.
- Ramble, on 10/12/2007, -9/+0Old, old and old.
- sabarsky, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3old but still funny.
- roeboedog, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Back when they worried about what the other was doing.
I will get flamed for this, but it's true - Now that Apple is leaving MS in the Dust, it's like comparing a Real Apple to something you want to anchor your boat with. - MosX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11"Old, old and old."
Well obviously it's old if it's about Windows 95 you ass. Maybe some people didn't see it? - Ramble, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2"Now that Apple is leaving MS in the Dust"
False, MS is kicking Apple's arse and has been for years.
It won't slow down either, becuase of the obvious suckage of the Apple OS. - modularsky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"the good ol' days when Apple and Microsoft despised each other." - you act as if those days are in the past?
- roeboedog, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I loave it! I was flamed in under a minute.
- laughterkillsme, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Awesome, another apple story with no substance on teh front page ... w00t
- Anaphiel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If I remember these ads, there was a whole series mentioning features in Windows 95 and saying "imagine that...", followed by a blank black page saying "We did. In 1984."
- roeboedog, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0loave=love
curse these fingers - computerdude33, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6"False, MS is kicking Apple's arse and has been for years.

Really now... I guess you'll be downgrading to Vista soon? - Ramble, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2"Really now... I guess you'll be downgrading to Vista soon?"
Damn right I will.
I don't suppose you've ever used it, take my word for it, it beats the Mac OS on all levels. - lollerskates, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"I will get flamed for this, but it's true" - Roeboedog
How long did that take, from your post to "lol apple os sux"? - l0ne, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3*cough*cough*Redmond, start your photocopiers*cough*cough*
I'd say they still have some sarcasm in there :D - Khilona, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Only reason why I haven't tried Apple = PC games!!
Don't think I will switch ever. - computerdude33, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3"I don't suppose you've ever used it, take my word for it, it beats the Mac OS on all levels."
Let's reverse it: have YOU used a Mac within the past year? If you think Mac OS sucks, why don't you try USING it. Even Linux 5 years ago was better than Windows today. - Geterix, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5Macs are ok. However, they are not this wonderboxes that these fanboys make them out to be. they break down like any other computer and do other stupid things.
- geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2"Damn right I will.
I don't suppose you've ever used it, take my word for it, it beats the Mac OS on all levels."
I don't suppose you've ever used it either if you think it's any good at all. I've tried the Vista beta and I was a Whistler beta tester, but OS X blows both out of the water. Since Panther there's no turning back for me. Go give it a try some time and realize how stoned you were when you made that statement. - laughterkillsme, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5@computerdude33
Windows is a pain, but if you know what your doing it works flawlessly. - Ramble, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2"Let's reverse it: have YOU used a Mac within the past year? If you think Mac OS sucks, why don't you try USING it. Even Linux 5 years ago was better than Windows today."
Yes, yes I have. In fact, I've extensively used all three major OS's (Linux, Windows and OS X), as well as some BSD in the last year.
So you see, I have evidence and experience to base my hate of Apple on, not like your "lol M$ Windoze sucks !!!!111" comments. - computerdude33, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9I don't believe Windows sucks; I just believe that everything else is better.
- YoDiggity, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Can't we all just get along? Apple stole the GUI from Xerox back in the day; MS stole Apple's stolen GUI, and here we are. Both Jobs and Gates have been quoted as saying (at some point) 'good artists copy, great artists steal'. That being said, use linux. :D
- Ramble, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"good artists copy, great artists steal"
Actually Picasso said that. - jonshipman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"I don't suppose you've ever used it, take my word for it, it beats the Mac OS on all levels."
Of course it does. Just like future processors are better than processors of today. Comparing an unreleased OS to an OS available since April of this year is a bit ... odd. I'm sure Apple will surpass Vista when 10.5 is released, still before Vista. - laughterkillsme, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0BUT LINUX IS COMMUNIST! rofl. I wish Winex worked better,
- Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Just once, I'd like to see a Digg mentioning an operating system that doesn't turn into a flame war...
Ad was funny. Dugg by this Windows user. - laughterkillsme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@arramol
rofl, the entire story is a windows flame .. how could this one not become a flame war? plz pffft and stuffs lol - KarlSage, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Apples break windows, if the windows are really thin.
- YoDiggity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ ramble
I know dude. I'm just saying they've quoted it, for the specific nature of the quote. - manfesto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@Arramol
Which is why I think Digg should just straight-up rip off /.'s comment system - thread comments and moderate so that flames get buried under comments with actual insight and rational thought. There have been a few rational debates about OSs on Digg - they were just hard to follow because every response had the "@whoever" that you had to look for, and they were separated by at least three one liner comments like "lol OS X rox." - bonchbonch, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0"Damn right I will.
I don't suppose you've ever used it, take my word for it, it beats the Mac OS on all levels."
I've used it. It sucks. Even Paul Thurrott is calling it a trainwreck. Have fun with that virtual folder mess on the Start menu, the virtual folder hierarchy hacked into run old apps, the 1GB of RAM/3Ghz system requirements, etc.
OS X Tiger is so far ahead, it's pathetic. Every single new end-user feature in Vista already exists in Tiger. Heck, Microsoft's even cloning OS X's folder layout.
Lame. :) - h4lofourt33n, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Pretty lame. I mean, I'm not a huge fan of windows, but anything beats a mac. no digg.
- manfesto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Oh, and I still find it kind of hard to see how this turned into a flame war - this is basically a really old ad that everybody - regardless of OS choice - can just look back on and laugh at, say "Man, Jobs was/is a pretentious *****," and move on.
- frozendice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Have any of these people that are saying OS X sucks tired using Mac OS X EXCLUSIVELY for more than 4 months? It's like if you only knew dos and were dumped into UNIX. You wouldn't be able to do everything you knew how to do instantly. IT HAS A LEARNING CURVE. Lots less than windows.
I've trained dozens of users on the Mac and it has always been easier and faster than training windows users. I started out using windows. I have only switched myself a few months ago.
You can't really tell something unless you've walked the equivalent of a mile in it's shoes. That means at LEAST a few months. - geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Man, Jobs was/is a pretentious *****," and move on.
And you're surprised to see how it became a flamewar. Nice flame btw. - heinousjay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@manfesto

I'm sorry, is this slashdot.org? Insightful and rational thought? Do you read the special secret comment section or something? - headphonist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0That just made me laugh, great find.
- Geterix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Neither OS is easy to use. Everyone has a story of their granny who was confused as hell with OS "A" and when she was in front of OS "B" she was like a pro. Pleeeze. My mom did ok with Windows, Xandros Linux, and OSX. She also had problems with all three. Just use what the flip gets you off and shut the hell up!
- astrosmash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Better ad:
http://fsinfo.cs.uni-sb.de/~abe/pictures/windoof/whymac.png - ManScum, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1If Apple is the such an "Innovative" company why is it that just about everything they have has been ripped off from other companies?
Example: IPOD and Video IPOD
Creative had them both before Apple.
Now I know what your going to say (even though you have never used a Creative MP# player) "Yeah those suck! IPODs are SO cool" - Mudcrutch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0""" the good 'ol days when Apple and Microsoft despised each other. """
they still do.. remember the OSX ads? "Redmond, start your photocopiers" - tarun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0And you wonder why people accuse anything Apple to reek of elitism?
- mixpix405, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0surprise surprise - this article turned into a "Mac v. PC" battle once again... when will it ever end?
No point in arguing, because both of the sides are usually to stubborn to change or stand down and say "you are correct on that point, but i still prefer _____ OS"
grow up you whiney little fanboys.- mrfx2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1no i just switched to mac and they are awesome!
- tarun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0And another thing--what's so freaking innovative about the Trash Can? Wasn't exactly a huge leap in the way we compute. 10 yrs later I still don't make use of it.
- mrfx2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How parts of the OS are made make it a OS its pretty important look at how vista uses pictures!
- qwertme, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0I use OS X, Windows and Linux every day.
No intelligent person can can say OS X is not the most advanced OS of the lot. Anyone saying different doesn't know what they are talking about - chill392, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Ok, I agree with anyone on Apple's side, I just don't want to read all of the comments.
More recently, Apple's OS X introduced the "Aqua" look. Windows Vista also introduces a new "Aqua" look.
Apple's most recent iteration, Tiger, introduced brushed metal on many windows and programs throughout the system. Windows Vista's IE7 is coming in a brushed metal look as well.
Apple's Tiger also introduces the Dashboard and Widgets, and Windows Vista will have the Sidebar and Gadgets. Sound familiar?
I've been using Windows for most of my life, and once I got a Mac Mini (I got the best version of the mini available), I vowed to never go back. There are things you can do without thinking in the Mac OS that a Windows user could never imagine doing... My teacher, who doesn't even know how to get a file from one folder to another in Windows, works efficiently and comfortably in a Mac environment.
In short, Microsoft just isn't able to think anything good up. It never has been very good at that. That is why I like Apple. -
