- corevette, on 10/12/2007, -12/+201) "Handbrake is a great Mac tool " handbrake is not only for mac's
2) why did they write a guide to the mac version of handbrake, when the linux version doesn't even have a gui??
3) why not use handbrake's offical guide: http://handbrake.m0k.org/trac/wiki/HandBrakeGuide- flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -13/+211) dosent matter if it is for other platforms, its still a good mac tool.
2) Its a mac specific website, why would they give out linux advice?
3) I dont know, *****. - nthitz, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5The point corevette is making, is there doesn't need to be a guide for the Mac version of Handbrake, it's pretty straight-forward and there is documentation provided by the makers of Handbrake. However for the Windows/Linux version it's all command line so a tutorial on how to use those two tools may be more useful.
- perre, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7LAME. I agree with @corvette. Read the official wiki guide to handbrake. If you're looking for tips and tricks or a tutorial which contains an analysis of video or audio quality trade offs, or anything even remotely advanced, this will disappoint.
Nothing new here, move along. - gxcdesign, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21. I watch these movies on my Mac and Apple TV too...so they must be high quality
2. I don't care for file size as I can stil manage to fit 45+ full length movies either way
3. I like watching the credits (most film students do) - DaMacGamer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9do we really need a guide to handbreak? this has got to be the easiest to use application ever!
- willynilly, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4"Mac's"? Why not learn the difference between PLURAL and POSSESSIVE?
Why not learn to use capital letters? See, they come at the beginning of sentences and are used for abbreviations like GUI. - tamrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2better yet the question stands; How does this get over 650diggs!!
must be slow news day again.. - CLShortFuse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11) Use iRiverter
For the people who NEED a tutorial for Handbrake, it doesn't get easier than iRiverter. It's just an mEncoder GUI written in Java (which makes it completely multiplatform). Plus it has the iPod profile (if you go that way) and can convert files and folders. Oh yeah, opensource+free. 3 Clicks max, DVD to iPod
- flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -13/+211) dosent matter if it is for other platforms, its still a good mac tool.
- mehss, on 10/12/2007, -5/+29I thought this had to do with cars :(
- Tenlow, on 10/12/2007, -8/+9I expected to see a clip from the drift bible.
I'm sad now. - drgruney, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4I was so excited... learning to turn with the hand brake would be awesome.
- Iam8up, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I thought this had to do with cars as well. Boy was I disappointed =(
- Tenlow, on 10/12/2007, -8/+9I expected to see a clip from the drift bible.
- spyderfreek2k, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12better yet why is this front page?
- huckmank, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21Awesome, I've got my guide to Handbrake. Now can anyone write up a short tutorial on breathing in and out?
- steelmaverick, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Breath in through your nose. You may also do so using your mouth, as you will take in more air at once. However, this is not always favorable, since it may result in dry mouth.
To breath out, simply release your diaphragm and exhale via your nose or mouth.
Simply put,
1. Breath in.
2. Breath out.
3. ???
4. Profit!

- jagojon3, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Here's a question:
When ripping a DVD to ipod format, it defaults the resolution to 640x480. Seeing how the ipod's native resolution is 320x240, I'd think that shrinking dimensions in half would cut the file size a good amount while no noticable decrease in quality. Am I right, or am I missing something?- ClunkClunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What you're missing is that 640x480 is good for viewing on a television via the iPod (using an iPod AV cable). Also, if you encode at 640x480, you can get "acceptable" results on both a computer display and an iPod for the exact same file (though 640w looks like crap for some movies on a computer display).
- digitallysick, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4maybe they could tell you how to install the linux version? that would help?
- icaruscollapse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Whether it deserves front page or not is irrelevant. It doesn't even cover the newest version of Handbrake that was released recently, and I believe that even the last version before that, which was months ago, had the newer tabbed interface which the screenshots don't show.
Even though it mentions the relatively new Apple TVs, we're dealing with an old guide here, folks. - trivialmaggot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ corvette & digitallysick & anyone else looking for a windows/linux tutorial
judging by the screens of their version of handbrake, this tutorial was written before the official releases of the windows and linux versions.
i'd say the tutorial was back in the days of handbrake version 0.7
just a guess though. - crazybrit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Thanks, for teaching us the Mac only GUI. That certainly needed a lot of explaining.
In other words, what about the CLI? - holyskeleton, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1handbrake.......great title.
- chrisipedia, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Marked as inaccurate. This is the old Handbrake.
- punkrock4life, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2great tutorial for a great program. dugg.
- Crumbeast, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4crap tutorial for a great program. buried.
- hode, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4If this is considered "the ultimate guide", I weep for the future. The tutorial doesn't even show the user how to use h.264, the best video codec. Buried, inaccurate.
- BWhaler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Wow. Way out of date. No digg here....
- gnawph2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Man, I thought this was about spinning tires and driving like a rally car.
Lame.- plagiats, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1me too. I'm so disappointed. I was expecting something about where, when, how to turn the weel/use your regular breaks/when you use your handbrake.....
- Stonekeeper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1When I saw this picture in the tutorial http://www.macinstruct.com/new/images/columns/handbrake/handbrake7.jpg
I thought "I'm in Tremulous! Must bite his head. Must bite his head".
I really must have a look at handbrake. I need something to convert files for my gp2x - KineticShampoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I thought this was about using the handbrake in cars. =(
Buried as FALSE PRETENSIONS!. Heh, just kidding, I'll digg just so others can see it. - dugem1, on 01/26/2008, -1/+1That's great find
