- thecompkid, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14Well, considering we can now develop apps without apple's "permission", I wouldn't be surprised if some of those ideas became a reality (save, of course, the itunes store and VOIP)
- EBFoxbat, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Not save VoIP. VoIP will be owned soon, or now if you include that voice by proxy web-based stuff that's around now.
- Noobist, on 10/10/2007, -14/+2let's hope your site can survive... THE... DIGG EFFECT!
- naio, on 10/10/2007, -28/+3Crapple is a ***** company. Therefore the iPhone is a turd.

Crapple...how brilliant of you. Does daddy know you're using his computer?

- zezerik, on 10/10/2007, -27/+3buried for being an article about anything Apple
- abid786, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9I know...I come to the Apple section of the site too and get pissed off because there are so many Apple articles.
- chedabob, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Lots of people come from the front page...
- Terc, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4and people like you cant seem to muster up the wit to disable sections they dont have interest in hearing about.
Instead, they go to the comment section of those stories and bitch. I wish there could be an option to ignore all the people that dont want to read about the story they are commenting on.- chedabob, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Hey, I wasn't bitching. I was just saying that people come from the front page and don't realise what section they are in. I never said I didn't have an interest in reading the article...
- ericatha, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4and if they don't want to see apple stories they can just go to customize and turn that off, there's no reason to be a jackass about it.

- tbenathan, on 10/10/2007, -13/+4Buried because a mobile movie editing program would be worthless on my iPhone.
- JasonPrini, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I thought it was the coolest idea there!
Give me ebook, camcorder, and integrated GPS and I'm there! - eternal, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Hey, you take a quick movie, do a little editting, and upload it to youtube.
Sounds great to me.
- JasonPrini, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I thought it was the coolest idea there!
- cgfranco, on 05/23/2008, -1/+29I like the eBook idea. A lot, actually.
- mthole, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I want the eBook reader, but with really cool speed-reading support. As you drag your finger under a line, it can highlight it for you and automatically scroll the page so you don't have to.
- jawbreaker4fs, on 10/10/2007, -2/+23Where's iChat?
- ninetimes, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I agree. Let's get some basic functionality first, things that really should have been built in in the first place. AIM/Jabber connectivity is one. I also think you need a way to sync calendar Task/ToDo lists from your computer to the iPhone, and to sync the iPhone Notes to your computer.
I mean, really, how did this thing get released without a todo list? - deadbaby, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Try the Jive Talk iPhone app. It's very iChat-ish minus the video chat options. The only drawback is the lack of audio notification for incoming messages.

- macenthe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Not a chance in hell that VoIP will show up on the iPhone. Does anyone seriously think that AT&T will let that happen? It doesn't even matter if VoIP is disabled when the phone is on EDGE or whatever broadband service AT&T provides. If there is a SIM chip in the device I doubt any wireless carrier would allow that.
- diggerdong, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Actually T-Mobile launched a phone during the iPhone launch which is capable of making phone calls on VoIP when using Wi-Fi and using the regular service when not at a HotSpot. They also included a router with the phone so whenever you're at home, you can make calls without wasting your precious minutes. It's a genius idea, really. Hopefully AT&T will soon follow suit.
- davidhildreth, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9imovie for my iphone would be amazing
- exomni, on 10/10/2007, -6/+2lol at VoIP. Never going to happen. iPhones get unlimited calls anyways.
iBook reader concept looked nice. I love the Delicious Library clone interface.- davidhildreth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3they get unlimited calls? man i should really check my bill more often
:| - ianweir, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3They're called eBooks, not iBooks.
iBooks are laptops, such as the one I'm using right now.
eBooks are electronic books. (go figure)
- davidhildreth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3they get unlimited calls? man i should really check my bill more often
- kdhoffman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3How about the ability to edit song information, like genre, artist, song name, even attach artwork from the camera or Safari images.
- davidhildreth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2well, currently all your music comes from itunes, which already does that in a much easier way.
but if you could share music or download new tracks that would be great- kdhoffman, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1That can be said of maps, weather, basically the whole thing. My point is that frequently I am listening to a song from a smart playlist and think it should have some different genre or something else. With the keyboard and drop-down controls figured out, why not give me some mobile control over my music?
- davidhildreth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2well, currently all your music comes from itunes, which already does that in a much easier way.
- nutmac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2iMovie and eBook look nice and all, but top requested? I can think of other apps more frequently cited as missing, such as iChat, MMS, to do list, games, and file browser (with additional viewers).
- davidhildreth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1most of those things are pretty easily replicated by web apps... we all know that the whole "all well apps" thing is lame but there is room for a lot of them.

- djdole, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Can I has Delicious Library for 2 CATalog chezburgerz?
- spargett, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The eBook reader looks ***** awesome, beautiful mock. I would love something like that. The VoIP would kick so much ass, even though I know that its the least likely of all.
I really like the sketch, such a valuable tool when trying to explain a concept to someone when words just wont do. - cl0r0x70, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1iPhone needs an ssh client. At that point, I get one.
- aallan, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Err, it's got one...? Just jailbreak the phone, install it, and the Terminal.app
http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/breaking/first-third+party-native-iphone-application-285830.php
and then you're there?- cl0r0x70, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Ummm. . . no.
From your link:
"The application is MobileTerminal, "a terminal emulator application for the iPhone. MobileTerminal.app is NOT an SSH client, nor Telnet for that matter. It can however be used to execute a console ssh-client application."
An ssh client is more than just connecting to your own phone. It requires accessing the tcp/ip stack of the OS, the AT&T network, and encrypting the communication via the ssh protocol.
What you've pointed out is simply the iPhone equivalent of Terminal. Not the same thing at all, or even close.- embraceware, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I have an SSH client on my iPhone - it's part of the guide here: http://iphone.macworld.com/2007/08/the_iphone_hacking_kit_step_by.php
I use it to send files to the phone over wifi using the iPhone's IP address. - Terc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2That's an SSH SERVER. The client is the part on your computer that you use to connect to your phone's ssh server.
That said, there is an SSH client for the iPhone. You'll probably want to use install.app to get it running though.
- embraceware, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I have an SSH client on my iPhone - it's part of the guide here: http://iphone.macworld.com/2007/08/the_iphone_hacking_kit_step_by.php
- deadbaby, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You seem to be confusing clients & servers. The iPhone has both an SSH server AND an SSH client. The server is called Dropbear. The client is called ssh-client and it works like any other ssh client. (ssh-client username@host)
- cl0r0x70, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Ummm. . . no.

- dewar2002, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I know the medical software epocrates is top on the list for most people in medicine. I think there is even a petition somewhere about it. Going through safari just doesn't cut it and it sucks to have to carry two devices.
- jabberwolf, on 10/10/2007, -6/+3Wow these requests are almost like the ones already on other Smartphones.
How "innovative" it would be if Apple would get up to par with the rest of the phones out there!
(burns another black turtle neck shirt!!) - mrroarke, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2How about WM6 so we can pretty much get all of those at once?
- davidhildreth, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2... you've never used an iphone have you? the ui is light years beyond anything else, so if they still have to fill in the holes with some small apps its ok.
- HelloNavi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The ebook program might actually put me over the top on the "will I shell out THAT MUCH MONEY for a good damned phone" debate.
- l0rdn1k0n, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Here's a great one: The ability to SEARCH through my 2000 contacts. Hell, Windows Mobile has that (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm pretty sure though)
- dougdug, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I would go for the T-Mobile VOIP clone on my iPhone since the AT&T reception at my home just sucks.
- l0rdn1k0n, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Searching through contacts? That was ridiculous not to include.
- bjarkebech, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2And for that matter, songs. Even the iPod does it. The iPhone even has a god damn keyboard!
- ScrumFritter, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Does anyone else think an iPhone SDK is inevitable? I don't doubt at all that soon Apple will release one. I mean think about it, the state of hacks right now is quite impressive, given it's not even been 2 months since it's release; imagine what that's going to be like in a few months time, by Christmas? By this time next year, even? Apple can't seriously have that many people hacking it's device to get the functionality they want... eventually they are going to have to make it legitimate to create apps for it... at the very least to save face.
I'm guessing they didn't release the SDK because it wasn't ready yet. Perhaps they're trying to ensure that 3rd party apps won't compromise the integrity of the OS? - bjarkebech, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That is the coolest blog layout i've ever seen.
