- thunderer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The display backlight function works on my iMac G5.
However, I'm not trusting it for more than a couple seconds because it's reeeaaalllly not supposed to do that.
*goes back to G-Force*- 1021, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2I couldn't really see through the youtube fuzz. Try zuneo next time.
Must say, iSpazz is a pretty hippie name for this. - kLacK, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Official Website:
And from the website:
"Oh, and before I forget: No warranty whatsoever. If the display flicker mode eventually kills your computer’s back light, it’s not my problem - sorry." - trylleklovn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8"Oh, and before I forget: No warranty whatsoever. But why would it.. It's LED's isn't it? - strikerK, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5that is so crappy..
- rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -16/+2Cool, but how many Apple MacBooks will this sell? If you are a MacBook fan, post videos to YouTube that show PC users WHY they should switch. Not some iCandy. This is the reason why PC users DON'T switch. They think the Mac is superfluous.
- steelmaverick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7To me this would actualy look very annoying.
- pinky24, on 10/12/2007, -8/+6burried for the lame music
- PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@"But why would it.. It's LED's isn't it?"
No, the display is something else... cold cathode or fluorescent, I believe. - kLacK, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Me: "It doesn't really go with the music"
Girlfriend: "It tries, its a white computer" - fusionFactor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's actually aluminum.
- gothicx00, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@PathDaemon
They are talking about the *keyboard backlight* not the display backlight. RTFA please :P
- 1021, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2I couldn't really see through the youtube fuzz. Try zuneo next time.
- MrBlack08, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Just got it, pretty cool. But I don't trust it with my keyboard backlight or my screen backlight for that matter.
- KingLeo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@ Rasterbator,
I don't think the intent of this video was to wow PC users at all, or to appeal to them. I think it's simply someone trying to get their app downloaded and appeal to already Macbook Pro owners.
- KingLeo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@ Rasterbator,
- MrMacMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17are 3 leds made to support fast dimming and switching between on and off like that?
dont want to burn out your leds man...- tecmec, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2LEDs? 'course LEDs can do that. Ever watched your HD activity LED for a while?
Depending what apple uses to regulate the brightness of the LEDs tho, this may not be a great idea. And doing this with the LCD backlight is defiantly not a good idea.
- tecmec, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2LEDs? 'course LEDs can do that. Ever watched your HD activity LED for a while?
- xtmno3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Wow, good going iwa87... the only step you missed was to post the Youtube video you uploaded in your own blog, then link to that from Digg...
- MattLat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3That'd get really annoying really quickly.
- shauncullen, on 10/12/2007, -11/+20Macbooks don't have a keyboard backlight.
- dragon69, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8why digg him down? they don't have a backlight. Macbook Pros have the backlight.
- MegaBabu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11thats pretty cool, I wish all mac laptops had the backlit keyboards
- MeatBiProduct, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1lol what a 'next best thing'.
work productivity just went up -5% boss. - PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I've had this for a while, and it's rather cool. Fun to show off.
I think the LEDs'll be fine, but I don't trust the backlight to survive. - durazine, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8I did this with my macBook and it totally changed my life.
- dooraque, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You did THIS with your macBook? I'm sorry!
- Sphinxer, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Ehrm.. Horribly broken English in that headline.. Let's try to stick to the language we've all agreed on, shall we?
Anyway, cool feature.. Great to annoy your friends with too, I think. - KD5VMO, on 10/12/2007, -11/+9wow, that is a great way to burn out your keyboard back-light, this is a dangerous little hack/trick to use.
- fusionFactor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually, shouldn't this lengthen the life? See, instead of having it on all the time in the dark, it's only on a fraction of the time whenever they blink off.
- LooterMcBeer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Mine does that everytime my cell phone rings anyway............
- yonas, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2This is the four hundreth time that someone has posted this vid to Digg. Cut it out.
Buried. - jonashwing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3i might have dugg if it weren't for the really horrible music
- hadimirza, on 03/26/2008, -1/+1Wasn't iSpazz first on digg like a year ago....Kind of a duplicate...
- zenmouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1kind of a good idea. terrible execution.
- neilbakker, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Video from website - better quality
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOkbJRZmCR0 - dude187, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Now I'm not a Mac user, but I'm going to assume from reading this thread that the backlight for the keyboard uses LEDs. Assuming this is the case, all of the people claiming that the flicker from this will shorten the life of the backlight are simply wrong. Next time you see a car with LED breaklights spin your head back and forth like your saying no really fast. You'll see a million dots instead of a steady stream from the LED's in the back. That is because LED's are most effiecent at their normal brightness, so to dim them to a reasonable level they are accually turning on and off super super fast.
- t3hX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The screen backlight, on the other hand, is CCFL, not LED and will NOT like this, however.
- stoppedcode12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1well, isn't the screen visualizer kinda annoying anyways? Though I can't be sure, most people would probably settle for keyboard backlight. Because it's less annoying, and it doesn't do much (if any) harm.
- clydefrog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the keyboard is fiber optic
- tachijuan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Loaded it up, looked kinda cool for about 15 seconds. Then I turned it off. Now it has permanently turned off my keyboard backlight on my 17"PB G4 1.67Ghz. Installed it back again, and the keyboard lights work fine with iTunes - but still won't work for its intended purpose.
AHhhhHh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Help - my keyboard backlight is being help hostage......- dDuk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There is a system available now which can re-boot your backight, it's called the 'iWallet' - once you get hold of it you can safely purchase a replacement MacBook Pro and your backlight will work again.
The problem with this app, which is not clearly documented, is that it requires an 'iBrain' to be there by default prior to installation, of course if the 'iBrain' detected you where installing such a piece of dodgy ***** in the first place it would have intervened stating "why do you want to risk burning out your backlight for what is basically a simulation of a broken, flickering backlight?"
This is the worst visualiser I have ever seen.

- NinJar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1does it really have it for macbook? i thought macbooks dont have leds on their keyboard. @_@
- kuturak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0wow, how annoying!
- BassJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This would be great fun as a practical joke :-) Would be better if each key was illuminated individually tho so you could get something resembling a bar chart rather then a light show!
