- NightRush, on 10/12/2007, -22/+1Anyone here actually use iCal?
- Ludwig, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Yes.
- cmilki, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I use it too, but now mostly Google Calendar
- OrangeTide, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I use iCal. Google Calendar falls flat on it's face for me.
I normally sync with http://icalx.com/ .. which also lets me view my calendar when I'm away from my Mac. The other bonus is iCal syncs with my cellphone, while Google Calendar cannot. - gmillerd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yeah, ical + cellphone + web is key, ical from 10.5 seems insane. a lot of people i know dont have it yet though.
- inkswamp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I use it extensively to keep track of tasks to do at work. I don't use the times per se, but I do add events on the day and type quick explanations for stuff I have to do. Those notes are colored green in a calendar called "TO DO". Then I have a calendar called "DONE" that is a gray color scheme. When I finished a task, I right+click on it and switch it to the "DONE" calendar when I've finished it which turns it gray. It gives me an clear, color-coded system for seeing what I've done and what still needs to be done. I also have a calendar set up for weekly, recurring tasks that is colored orange. Those are set up to show up automatically each week. It's incredibly convenient, especially if you have a job like mine where deadlines come fast and furious and you have lots of small tasks, meetings and details to keep straight.
Honestly, iCal has evolved to the point where I'm not sure why someone wouldn't be using it. - digitaldivider, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1buries as lame because anything made by apple inevitably is.
- gjunkie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I do actually, not extensively, but its helpful for some event warnings and keeping track of a few things...
- stukdog, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1It's still a good program, it just needs some updating. For instance, get rid of the brushed metal and the pop-out drawer.
- whiteyMcBrown, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3I'm a HUGE Apple fan, but google calendar blows it out of the water. Even though it's over the net, Google Calendar is way faster than iCal. Google Calendar also has the Agenda view (something sorely lacking from iCal) so I can have a simple list view of things going on with times next to the items. The only thing I miss from iCal is being able to subscribe to some pretty cool public calendars.
- dmoney06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4No way in hell GC is faster than iCal.
- LucidParody, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i cal has the same feature. if you click "show and hide search results" without actually searching, it gives you a list of your stuff...
- Uruviel, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Google Calendar beats the crap out of iCal.
Not only from a User Interface perspective, the Quick Add function is holy.
But also from a usability point of view, the ability to instantly access your calendar on the internet, with a PDA for example, and the possibility to share appointments are a huge step forward in the evolution of Calendars. Client side storage and seeing sharing as an 'option' instead of basic functionality are so pasé- Veamon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Can you sync it with a PDA yet? Last I heard, you couldnt. I have an ugly hack for syncing it with Outlook, but it doesn't let you publish without screwing it up and making duplicates.
- OrangeTide, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3except Google Calendar is still full of bugs and loses its mind occationally.
- longterm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yes, it'll sync with the Palm quite easily, using Palm Desktop or Missing Sync. I do it all the time...
I also use .mac to sync my calendar w/ 2 others, which is really useful. - Veamon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Does it let you sync and publish to from Outlook?
- oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i love ical but i am hoping that leopard makes further strides.
- LucidParody, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I use iCal because (a) I don't always have Internet access at all times, but I do have my laptop at all times and (b) some confidential events are better saved locally.
- mokolabs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1iCalShare has lots of calendars you can use with iCal (and other apps that support iCalendar... Google Calendar, 30 boxes, etc.)
http://icalshare.com - Jhary, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Google calendars are much better than iCal. Like many of you: I am a big Apple fan, but you have to be open to new/better products. I think what makes GCs better is the networking capabilities. Also, I can add a calendar to my web site. Too cool, and beyond iCal.
I'll be happy to try iCal again when they bring in some new features. - solecist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It took me a yaer to find a workable GTD software solution, glad to finally find it.
