- normalkid, on 10/11/2007, -1/+26it's a much better watch than the impression you get from the transcripts.
- junkalam, on 10/11/2007, -2/+142Anyone else find that Kara lady extremely annoying?
- Quix, on 10/11/2007, -33/+6"it's a much better watch than the impression you get from the transcripts"
I dunno, the video is kinda painful. Does anyone do awkward silences better (or worse) than Bill Gates? Wow. There's absolutely no doubt when Gates is feeling bothered. That facial expression would look great in a Mylanta ad.
Reminds me of the agonizing dialogue with Conan O'Brien a few years back when the demo went sour and Conan tried to salvage the mess with humor. King Bill was not amused.
Note to Bill: don't ever play poker. - the_snitch, on 10/11/2007, -2/+29@Quix: Actually, Bill has been know for his awesome poker skills. He played it all through college until he dropped out of Harvard to start MS
- Culled, on 10/11/2007, -14/+2"Note to Bill: don't ever play poker."
Yeah he might lose money. - dn11, on 10/11/2007, -2/+18I thought Bill was relatively relaxed and in good humor compared to most interviews he does - something to do with the reality distortion field no doubt
- fossilnews, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12@junkalam
I don't know if it was her specifically, but the combination of those two (especially in some of the other segments) was almost painful to watch. They were closer to fisticuffs than Gates/Jobs. - diabolicdiablo, on 10/11/2007, -6/+5Great interview, I had no idea that Microsoft helped develop Apple operating systems.
- hoppdawg, on 10/11/2007, -1/+37That chick needs to stop talking.
- themastersb, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16Does Steve Jobs always wear the same attire?
- toxicvarn90, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3Wow, a lot of ass kissin and no straight talkin.
- norbiu, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1The moderator mentions Digg in Part 3 at 4:53.
- dafragsta, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Billy G wasn't being more sociable or candid because of the RDF. I think he was being himself more because he didn't have to dumb down his approach to reach a broad audience. His audience in this particular case is very much in-the-know. I'd be a lot less on edge around people who weren't going to take pot shots at me. I don't even think Jon Stewart gave Bill Gates a fair interview and I love Jon Stewart.
- ruindpzzle, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3i totally agree with junkalam. Swisher was SOO annoying, I wished she'd not been part of that. Where did she come from anyway? Like Mossberg needs a sidekick. Leave her home at D6 please.
- tdrizzle, on 10/11/2007, -16/+1Man Steve Jobs looks so man right near the end when Bill is talking about Gil Amelio.
- 8bit_Hero, on 10/11/2007, -5/+24Epic!
- Ireland, on 10/11/2007, -13/+1I thought the second Pirates of the Caribbean was better myself.
- Technopundit, on 10/11/2007, -15/+1I'm not sure what these two are up to, but I don't like it.
Am willing to bet it has something to do with the letters D-R-M ! - mediaspree, on 10/11/2007, -19/+5Hello, I'm a Mac... And I'm a PC.
- musntSurfatWork, on 10/11/2007, -12/+2Hello, I'm a Mac Billionaire Dictator (that gave you green burn in screens from Loderunner)....And I'm a PC Billionaire Dictator (with 20% stake in your company har har)
- BristolMyLove, on 12/21/2008, -14/+2This video was already posted. It was on an Engaget story.
- VoraciousPanda, on 10/11/2007, -17/+10Y'know, if you submit something to digg and the beginning of your headline starts with "VIDEO:", maybe it should go into the videos section.
- rpgmaker, on 10/11/2007, -10/+8I don't know why is he being dugg down...
- metalhead3767, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8This is important enough to go in the technology section.
- rpgmaker, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Then nothing is important enough to be in the video section. So we only gonna have the most seen youtube video in the video section?
- bgii2000, on 10/11/2007, -9/+0Whoops, wrong digg.
- Quix, on 10/11/2007, -9/+2Oh thanks, now I have to retract my retort...
- pr5owner, on 10/11/2007, -8/+0billie and jobs in the same boat? isnt that like a doomsday apocalypse type thing?
- thedragon4453, on 10/11/2007, -16/+6You know, I love Apple products, but every time I see Job's on something, I always wonder the same thing: With 4 billion dollars, couldn't he afford a different outfit?
- Quix, on 10/11/2007, -4/+29It's called minimalism. And I'd love to be able to get away with it myself, but I'm not rich enough.
If you're rich and wear the same outfit every day, you're considered a minimalist, at worst an eccentric.
If you're not rich and wear the same outfit every day, you're considered a creepy slob. - tobsterius, on 10/11/2007, -1/+22You can look at it the other way: Gates has 40 billion... why does he look like he slept in his clothes all night and woke up just before he went on stage?
- ninsei, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16b/c he probably did?
Just b/c you have money doesn't mean your personal habit change.
- Quix, on 10/11/2007, -4/+29It's called minimalism. And I'd love to be able to get away with it myself, but I'm not rich enough.
- Technopundit, on 10/11/2007, -16/+1In the video, Jobs' body language unmistakably says of Gates "I don't wanna be here with this guy!"
- Jammerdelray, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15can't we all just get along, good example
- kolywater, on 10/11/2007, -4/+51i hope that fanboys (all sides) watch this video and realize how completely pointless it is to be a fanboy. its really nice to see that the "war" between mac and pc is all internet fiction. very cool of jobs and gates to do this interview.
- Arkonnan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18Bill and Steve have been spotted(and photographed) shooting the ***** at other functions and they seem to get along well. I doubt they're bestest friends in the whole wide world, but I doubt they're sworn enemies, as Mac/PC zealots would have you believe. This whole Mac vs. PC rivalry was made up by Internet dorks who think they're crusaders against some kind of grand injustice brought upon them by evil tech corporations. It's an overcompensation thing.
- noahhoward, on 10/11/2007, -4/+43So - Apple haters and Windows haters, from the mouth of the legends themselves - Microsoft (and by inference Windows) would never have happened without Apple and Macintosh probably would not have survived without Microsoft.
Side note, I'm so glad Steve interrupted Bill to tell that story; Bill Gates is a lot of things but he is most definitely not a speaker.- Cimlite, on 10/11/2007, -6/+5Your absolutely right that Bill does not say things as eloquently as Steve.
That said Bill did actually say more things in the interview that made sense instead of sounding like a marketing ad. Steve has a tendency to quotes and stuff that does not really have anything to do with question.
About what you said with that people should just get along and stop the Mac/Windows-fanboyism going on. That's not going to happen. The two companies might have been very much dependent on each other at the beginning but now their products are very much alike. When that happens people will always have favorites and stand by them. - toxicityj, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1i think its unfair to imply that MSoft needed apple more than Apple neded MSoft. They needed (and still need) each other equally. If Apple hadnt provided a platform on which MS could create software, MS wouldnt exist. and if MS hadnt invested so much money, software, etc. in apple, apple wouldnt exist.
- Cimlite, on 10/11/2007, -6/+5Your absolutely right that Bill does not say things as eloquently as Steve.
- kolywater, on 10/11/2007, -0/+35to anyone that says they look like they don't like each other, just stop. there's a clear mutual respect between them. i think bill looks uncomfortable because he's a nerd, and steve gets antsy because he likes to put on a show.
- anthony1124, on 10/11/2007, -1/+79"i like PC guy a lot better!"
okay...
"i like PC guy a lot better!"
"I like PC guy a lot better!"
"I like PC guy a lot better!"
"I like PC guy a lot better!"
Kara shut the ***** up, we heard you the first time, the second, and there after. - paragonmatrix, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8http://www.socialham.com/2007/05/31/video-of-steve-jobs-and-bill-gates-at-d-conference/
all 7 parts on one page
(also some bonus material) - hode, on 10/11/2007, -1/+53The interviewers are inexcusably unintelligent. Jobs gets visibly annoyed with them as they interrupt with their stupid comments.
- eseiat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+27Agreed, these are easily the worst interviewers I have ever seen.
- metalhead3767, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11"don't be mean"
- Amplix, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13"You're getting in trouble for saying that"
".. why"
"Just kidding"
"..why"..
"well-"
"why?"
- filmbandit, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9in any industry you can't reach the stature these 2 guys have without having mutual respect--really great to see how much it shows in these clips.
- phoenix1974, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Good to know they have been married for so long.
- dean2105, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1Does this only work in the US? I'm getting a 'video currently unavailable' error
- robuk24, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Why is it split into annoying 10min chunks?
- mateo60, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Ads.
- Sawta, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Very intersting video, although I was a bit surprised to see people walking in front of the shot on several occasions. I was surprised they didn't just rope it off or something..
Oh, I must agree that the people that were interviewing them were somewhat annoying, but we must try to keep in mind that part of their job description is conversing with who they are interviewing and I could have easily seen Bill and Steve going on long tangents; although I would have prefered that over their insights. - stormist, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13Jobs: We've kept out marriage a secret for over a decade now...
Great stuff - mateo60, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Anyone have just the audio? I want to listen on my iPod.....er... portable media player.
- fibreoptix, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12The interviewers are annoying, they talk to much. I'm a PC guy and when the dude interrupted Jobs I wish Jobs yelled "Shut the ***** up and let me answer."
Over all good stuff. - nroose, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I think it is interesting that on the front Digg page, there is this story that has a video that mentions a computer with 128K of memory, and another story about iTunes Plus. In the new 256kbps format, the 128K would hold about 4 seconds of music.
- BlackOp, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1the memory is in bytes though..
- Soccrmastr, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Everyone has pointed out the annoying interviewers, and I totally agree. But everyone also said paradigm an awful lot heh. Overall good interview.
- inkhead, on 10/11/2007, -7/+2why the hell is this so historic? They were at dinner together three months ago at a conference, which they both go to every year, and SIT next to each other at the table. Look at flickr.com
- LoganT, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5But was their an interview inkhead? No.
- slipgate, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I wish fanboys from each side could hold intelligent discussions like this without insulting each other at every opportunity. If Bill and Steve can do it why can't all their followers? Forums like this would be a much better place.
- majorbabu, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9wow steve and bill talking together and actually looking like they get along?
*fanboy head explodes*
on a serious note though. the interviewers were really annoying and quite possibly retarded. Most of the questions had something to do what steve and bill thought was going to be the next big 'thing'. Alright, I heard their responses the first time and they were interesting, you don't have to ask what are basically variations of that same question eleven times. Here are two giants blessing us with their presence under the same roof... the least you could do is do some homework and come up with better damn questions to ask.
The highlight was probably at the end when the audience members were given a chance to ask their questions. Far more interesting. - GeorgeStone, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4If Jobs adds the prefix "super" onto a word ever again, I'm gunna hunt him down and kick him in the balls.
- chaoticprout, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Wasn't that last question Woz? Why didn't they say anything to him.
- rumbl3r, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0LOL, I thought the exact same thing... Way too funny...
- trancelgic, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Where can a brutha download the videos?
- jonclifton, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It looks like the site is not publishing the videos right now. Did anyone already rip the video so we can download it?
- mattstooks, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It's a long interview and worth every minute. Brilliant stuff. Yeah the interviewers blew, but if that's all you walk away with, I'm sorry.

- freakout1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I really enjoyed this interview, interesting points and views from both sides. It was good to see something that was just a normal interview, or conversation, rather than a scripted opinion.

- jhaks, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Steve jobs ment post-pc as in new type of devices like smartphones and portable media devices. By PC he ment personal computers in general like the Windows PC's and Macs. They both said how both types of devices will be integral in the future.

- sweetloli12, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3The interview of the century got ruined by the ***** retarded pieces of scum who "interviewed" them. That bitch needed to die for blabbering on and on about her stupid *****. What a ***** retarded bitch. I want to abduct her and rape-murder her so she learns a lession. I didn't really find the guy that annoying, but that's probably just in comparison to the extremely annoying bitch.
WHY was every ***** question about "the next great thing"?! I can't believe they missed the chance to make the best damn interview ever. What a bunch of wankers. (I liked Steve and Bill.) - jbschusty, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Great watch. Three men I (and many others) greatly respect. If it weren't for Kara, this could be live broadcast and generate millions in ad money.
- drewh01, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Steve Jobs is quite an emotional guy... did you notice at the start when Bill was saying what he felt was Steve's most important thing, he clearly got a bit teary - you could hear it in his voice.. A few other times I noticed it too. Then when he quoted the Beatles "Two of Us" line - which was a very genuine thing to see, you could see that Steve was on the verge of crying. haha.... his eyes like locked to two or three spots as he tries not to get upset. Bill either doesnt have much emotion or doesnt show it. BTW, I think Steve 100% meant that comment... it wasnt just a nice way to end the speech. He meant it, and it was a nice way to acknowledge all the two have been through.
Also... anyone notice Steve turned a bit arrogant/irritated about half way through the interview? his answers started getting more rougher. Probably because of the way the two "interviewers" were butting in.- Nick519, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1i agree. i think that nearly dying has really made him appreciate his life more.
- finezapa, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3i thought this was pr0n
- importpsycho, on 10/11/2007, -6/+3Japanese couldn't write software for their mp3 players?
steve, iTune is a garbege- ruindpzzle, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1first of all "iTune" isn't what the iPod runs on. Second of all, if you wanted to compare music management software, what japanese software would you say was better? Sony Connect? Yeaaahh.
btw-try to grasp the language before commenting.
- ruindpzzle, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1first of all "iTune" isn't what the iPod runs on. Second of all, if you wanted to compare music management software, what japanese software would you say was better? Sony Connect? Yeaaahh.
- FrozenGonad, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Did anybody notice the whole "post pc" thing Steve talked about. It seems he's suggesting that eventually the whole desktop computer concept will end. Is that why he seems to be putting more emphasis on peripherals these days?
- Nick519, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2yes -- but i don't think he's the only one thinking that. looks like bill also is thinking in that direction.
- jhaks, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0I don't know; I didn't get that impression at all. They seemed to both think that the PC will be part of a larger ecosystem of devices and services.
- diggik, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Opening with Rush +1 digg.
- vicarmike, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I did see that, I like them kind of being insecure about the pc guy ads (Jobs: it is the pc guy who makes it work).
However, leaving Steve Job's hair alone,
what is that with Bill Gates' hair?
a curled up hairnet?
It is for sure not a rasta piece .....
(forgive, I just could not hold that back........Leno? Want to add something about comb-overs?)
Mike - varekai, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg are really not good at hosting/interviewing. They have a knack for interjecting awkward statements and asking uninteresting questions. This would have been much more compelling in the hands of real media masters like Leo Laporte and TWiT.
