- outerspaceapple, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I thought that was the best silhouette add yet, wonder why they pulled it..
- webguy2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah, anybody know why they pulled it? I don't see anything wrong with it.
- wonky73, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Pullling anything with Eminem could only be a good decision.
- mlerner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I imagine some people at Apple or some network executives did not feel the ad was suitable.
- naevity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They mentioned in the keynote it would be shown on TV in the coming months for the holiday season. So someone probably put it up too early, it probably wasn't supposed to be shown online until it hit airwaves.
- lewsmind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0naevity, that is the best reasoning I've heard yet. Makes sense anyway.
- hckynck20, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0they pulled it because it sucks lol
- mehron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I liked it, especially with the paint splashes.
As for the whole Eminem deal, I don't know maybe some bad blood resurfaced, but I would have thought tha would have been settled before the ad was even made--since it does appear to be him, in fact, in the ad itself.
Who knows.
P.S. I do have a H.267 version of the ad that I might put up as soon as I get home on the idisk for download. - siouxmoux, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Eh? Why Eminem ad was pulled? Simple, HE SUX!! Big Time!!!
- aaronlidman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0jobs has to be pissed, he said it was his dream that they had been working on for over a year.
- okcomputer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+02nd that. eminem sucks
- djrusty0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Come on, the commercial is obviously for a greatest hits album which has yet to come out. The commercial is fine, there are no PR issues, just released prematurely.
- diggerphelps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0H.267?
I'm just getting used H.264!
Now I have to deal w/ another codec!?! - okcomputer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0by the way, this digg is going to kill your .mac bandwidth
- sys9five, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1they wouldnt have pulled it because it was too early because at the press release thing or whatever, they showed it twice! so i doubt it was that...
my reasoning = eminem sucks. - TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I could think of two reasons: Endorses Grafiti and Violence. :)
Both things I love, ironically enough. - jediboytj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0wonder why they pulled it... they show it in full length (twice) during the Oct 12th Keynote, which you can download right from apple.
the ad is cool... the only thing that sucks is feminem... - TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't think Eminem would stop something that he is obviously in.
- mydecree, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0who cares this is more important
http://www.geek2us.net/forum/index.php
-bogey - MrZop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I thought Eminem Said he would never do a endorsment. Sad he started out with a company that has every single celebrity on there payroll.
The only thing this story has proven is that Digg Geeks hate Eminem...Laf
BTW: I don't hate Eminem. - fr3nch13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't think this is the Eminem ad that was pulled. This is a new one. If you pause it when they show the iPod itself it is the new widescreen video iPod. The ad that was actually pulled has info here:
http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2004/02/20040224090015.shtml - Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0be great if they came out with a eminem inspired ipod
- CryingWolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like the ad and hope to see it again on TV soon!!! It's a good song for the iPod.
- persecuted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They can's have banned it, Steve was really excited about it,
'lets roll it again'
'spent a year wanting this commercial'
btw, both commercials suck in my humble opinion. - blaz3d, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I liked it, but I still think he sucks.
- bobothn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0i agree with eminem sucking. maby he sued apple for it or something.
or it could have been it got released to early. - Mysk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not a fan but I think that the commercial looks cool.
It does look like there's a touch of violence in it, but whatever. Not near enough to be pulled over. - grizwald, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i found it odd that Jobs made such a big deal about it during the webcast .. he said they had been working on it for 'over 2 years'???
- DCJoeDog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think this was the BEST iPod ad ever.
- nessup, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can't imagine how upset steve must be right now, he was dreaming of this commercial. This would've been the best ipod ad ever.
really disappointing. - tanxadillo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Apples Reasons : They remembered iTunes was for music. ;)
- suicidal-kid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0That was an extremly pathetic ad.
- snowthrower, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0LMAO tanxdillo
- Dustin3737, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Thank looks really good, but I just dont like Eminem, if it were like slipknot, that would be kick ass.
- BASK1104, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Probably because its crap
- treelovinhippie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0lol, wonder why they banned it? They would have got all the eminem supporters buying ipods.
- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That was a pretty good ad. Helluva lot better than those plain silhouettes.
Should've kept it. - Unimaxium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's very wierd that they pulled it. Steve Jobs was _very_ proud of the eminem ad when he showed it to the audience at the special event Wednesday when he unveiled the new iPod. He even showed it twice, saying that they (Apple) had been waiting for years to make an ad like this one. Very strange.
- canucksin2006, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0cause it blows 1337 chunks
- revoltor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nobody wants to see iPod thefts rise even higher.
- fugitivALiEN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Opinion stated as fact is a bad thing... obviously his music does not "suck" you just may not like it. The ad does get away from the original silouette ads, but keeps the same feel. I'd imagine they want to be able to advertise this better... stop with the conspiracy theorizing, i'm sure we'll get straight dope on it soon =/
- l0g1cal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0That's what D!GG is all about!
- scarper86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Eminem's publisher sued Apple because the song was used without proper persmissions. This happened February last year. The lawyers eventually sorted things out.
- jay314, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This just looks like an alternate edit. The version shown at the announcement was probably preferred because it is slighly less aggressive (ie: he pushes some dude and throws the mic in this version). The word "banned" just crops up in the stupidest places because it gets people riled up.
If you read here:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/3519153.stm
http://www.usatoday.com/money/media/2004-02-24-eminem-apple-mtv_x.htm
You'll see that the real pulled video features a "young boy singing", and the issue was whether or not permission was given to use the song. THIS VIDEO HAS EMINEM IN IT.
And this suit is from February 2004.
You people need to be more realistic and do some fact checking. Quit digging *****. - nwagers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My guess is this ad was premature. Eminem's upcoming album "Curtain Call" isn't due in stores until December. On another note, I think the way the song was cut ruins the entire commercial. His lyrics always flow well, but in this case it's choppy, showing the shoddy job apple producers did.
- mehron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1First, the whole lawsuit deal was a different issue, this video I placed up had no relation to it. Obviously Eminem is in this video, why would he be sued if they obviously contracted him to partake in it.
Second off, stop digging *****? It's up to people to make things, not you. So if you don't like it. Put up, look past and don't digg in hopes it dies! Simple enough.
And I made an error in my previous post with the 267, haha. It's been midterms week, can you blame me? I am finally done. Just one more paper...
But back on topic, even if there will be an alternative version, this version is thus 'banned' meaning it won't make air time. Since it was obviously pulled from Apple.com within hours.
I totally didn't link the pushing and the dropped mic as to a means as to why it could have been pulled. Shows how desensitized I've become to certain images in media.
As for the killing my .mac bandwidth. Good, at least it'll be serving a valid purpose. ;) Hopefully it'll keep up with demand. :) - SuperNick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Haha, users here are so judgemental (and borderline racist).
- alxdman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Notice how all the sites mentioning suing are dated 2004?
Notice how the keynotes had the whole curtain/act/theather look thats all too familiar looking to the Eminem covers?
Notice how the only ad in the iPod tv ads is the new U2 one and no other ads (ie. all the other silouhette?
And why would he be suing if their announcing that their releasing his new album?
People are seeing too much into it. - mojaam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"OMG, that was the most dispicable thing I have seen. Good riddins, now my kids will be safe. Phew..."
NOT (that was sarcasm). What the hell is that "pulled" worthy? I don't get some people. Same thing with the whole GTA thing? - mehron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1He is in the video -- he is not suing.
That is not what the video link was implying... The video was pulled off of the Apple.com site hours after it was placed up. Some sites, just as another member here has mentioned that it was 'violent' in nature and thus could potentially reflect badly on the company. In addition, seeing that Eminem doesn't have the cleanest rep of all the artists out there.
So once again, I'll repeat, this video is not the center of a lawsuit. Just simply was put up because of the fact that it is no longer available for viewing from the Apple.com homepage and the fact that this version will never make it to airwaves. :) -
