Why don't you get an OS that doesn't steal everything from everyone else. At least quit praising the outsourced mac hardware. There's nothing to be a fanboy of really. Nothing Apple is actually Apple except for the iphone which is a joke and the ipod which is actually good.

- Zero2aHero, on 11/15/2007, -0/+146Wow, look at this quote...
---
"We used to fool ourselves," he said. "We used to think our content was perfect just exactly as it was. We expected our business would remain blissfully unaffected even as the world of interactivity, constant connection and file sharing was exploding. And of course we were wrong. How were we wrong? By standing still or moving at a glacial pace, we inadvertently went to war with consumers by denying them what they wanted and could otherwise find and as a result of course, consumers won."
---
That quote needs to be on the wall of every music execs office- hawarkarem, on 11/15/2007, -0/+41Is this a dream?...
I mean..what happens now?- Coded1, on 11/15/2007, -0/+3I bet if I called this in 2002 I would have cleaned up nice right now.
- bitspace, on 11/15/2007, -0/+3Nothing, because none of the other execs will listen to him. Let's also keep an eye on how Warner develops business in the future to see if he means what he says.
- Kerrigore, on 11/15/2007, -0/+6Not a dream, but it may be one of the signs of the apocalypse.
- nfxmedia, on 11/15/2007, -0/+5Cats and Dogs living together. Mass hysteria.
- Ratteler, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1They sucker people into paying the same price for CD for DRMed music they will have to buy again and again for every new device they want, and cut the manufacturing cost for CD's and Jewel cases.

(of course apple is getting praised because it's the new warner - ***** them all. DIY FTW)- chaosium, on 11/15/2007, -2/+4At some scale you can't do it yourself. And no, not even Ani DiFranco is DIY, but definitely an "indie".
- NoOneButMe, on 11/15/2007, -2/+11Better late then never. There are people who wouldn't mind buying stuff if it was as easy/fast/has as many files as bittorrent or some other method does.

- digitallysick, on 11/15/2007, -2/+6It is a very profound quote, the music industry has finally started to wake up and realize they spent all this time fighting it, instead of embracing it. Years ago they knew their was a demand for digital content , but instead held on to the cd, while apple created an empire.
- VitriolAndAngst, on 11/15/2007, -0/+3Usually, these revelations occur about two weeks after it is too late.
Bravo for him -- but our economy is about to tank. And the Music industry is going to get replaced by iTunes. Can he change it around? I think the Indies are,... but the major labels will have to subsist on less profit margin -- it's that simple.
- hawarkarem, on 11/15/2007, -0/+41Is this a dream?...

- Cooperjones, on 11/15/2007, -7/+0Now that some studio mogul has finally realized the truth, the Writers Guild needs to pick up the iPhone and get Steve Jobs in there to negotiate the strike. Jobs gets excellence, rewards creatives (Jonathan Ives anyone?) and has already done the work the lazy and overpaid studio executives won't do -- Jobs has THOUGHT THROUGH the problems of internet media content and come up with his magic 99 cent music download formula on iTunes. He can do the same for the movie business. Jobs needs to get in there and help settle the strike before Hollywood succumbs to this Civil War. The moguls need to free the slaves (the writers)!
- colincornaby, on 11/15/2007, -1/+12Look, I'm a Mac guy, but Jobs is not a magic angel who can come down from on high and solve any world problem.

- Coded1, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2Some how to have Hollywood complaining about politics is a bit too drastic, why don't both of you take a pay cut and cut me some slack on the prices and commercials, maybe something better then reality tv too.
- ssj2119, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2We'll see where this goes - all this means is that they have come up with a way to get the same revenue as they were before but in this day and age, they're not really waking up and changing for the better, they are changing their plans in order to get more money for themselves...they are very short sighted..personal experience
- sobo310, on 11/15/2007, -0/+3I think it's kinda sad that when i first read the title/article I thought it was a fake/spoof. - CrashKC, on 08/25/2008, -0/+5Can I digg this twice, please?
- chkdg8, on 11/15/2007, -0/+2The recording industry has known this all along and specially during the Napster scandal. They just milked it for as long as they could and finally they realized that the game is over. They can go after bit torrent sites all they want but it'll never stop the bleeding. They're fighting a war that can be best described as "death by a thousand cuts". News Groups have been around since the late seventies and they're not going away because there is no source or a head to cut off. Apple on the other hand is just playing the game by selling digital distributions and more big name artists are selling their music online or through itunes. Everyone downloads and pirates media. That's why media players sell in the first place! If people payed for media then believe me when I tell you that Apple's stock wouldn't be where it is today.

Thats what the music "industry" did with the CD, and that is what apple does with its iproduct line. Don't get fooled, its just effective marketing, but you are in a locked status, all the same.
- antitab, on 11/15/2007, -0/+1I don't recall MPEG-4 being proprietary in any sense of the word, considering it's an open standard.
