- galv0, on 08/20/2008, -0/+49They both have at least 27 articles per day related to them on Digg.
- Hayburner, on 08/20/2008, -2/+7Put them both together and you've got a few thousand diggs.
- OMGWTFROFLMAOx2, on 08/20/2008, -2/+1Digg has apparently turned into the Gizmodo of swimming.
- rpgmaker, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1Apple + Michael Phelps = Front Page.
- zionKing, on 08/20/2008, -1/+18The comparison overreaches, used Phelps's name to snag more page views. I should be happy that Forbes didn't put each word of this article on a separate slide to force-feed me their ads (like they do with pictures/lists).
- rpgmaker, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2Didn't Michael Phelps co-founded Apple?
- DeFex, on 08/20/2008, -3/+10hmmm.
do you have to send him back to the factory for a new battery?- EntropyFan, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2Nor do you have to jail break him in order for him to be useful. He doesn't only swim in AT&T pools.
It goes on and on. Stupid comparison.
- EntropyFan, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2Nor do you have to jail break him in order for him to be useful. He doesn't only swim in AT&T pools.
- KSUdesigner, on 08/20/2008, -2/+24The only thing in the article that they use to relate Apple to Phelps is, "And getting that far ahead of the competition is something that Michael Phelps would surely understand." If you're going to title an article "What Apple and Michael Phelps Share in Common" then the majority of your article should probably be comparing/contrasting the two. Instead they just threw that stupid line in at the end in order to attract more attention. Buried as lame.
- borez, on 08/20/2008, -5/+6What Apple And Michael Phelps Share in Common... err ***** all to be honest.
- stone2020, on 08/20/2008, -6/+6Wow...People believe Marketing. What a shock. Profits are huge for Apple. Apple is ripping you off. They sell you crappy Chinese electronics that have a high failure rate and are made in horrible conditions. They have one of the worst environmental records (Dell has one of the best). Keep spending those Marketing dollars Apple, Americans will eat it up.
- ventralnet, on 08/20/2008, -1/+3pretty much. Their success has nothing to do with quality. I count Apple's ad campaign of recent years the best of all history and their marketing department should be running the company
- nicheplayer, on 08/20/2008, -2/+2I'm waiting for a citation on Apple's environmental record v. Dell's....
- stone2020, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1Dell is carbon-neutral now. Is Apple?

- stone2020, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1Dell is carbon-neutral now. Is Apple?
- clak, on 08/20/2008, -2/+1Apple has bad quality? O'RLY? Tell that to my G5, which has been running 4 years without one hardware problem. NOT ***** ONE problem. Tell that to my aluminum iMac that hasn't had ONE ***** problem all year. Tell that to my Mac Pro, which hasn't had ONE ***** problem in 7 months.
You PC guys can keep on dreaming that stupid ***** if it makes you feel better about your crap PC.- stone2020, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1Ummm...you own a PC now. Macs have an Intel CPU with an Asus or Foxconn motherboard. Nice try though. I will give that your G5 is better made than PC's of that time but not true anymore because they are same parts, they just have an Apple logo slapped on them. Heard of a Hackintosh?
- MacParrot, on 08/20/2008, -2/+1"Wow...People believe Marketing"
Some do, other like me just prefer the OS
"They sell you crappy Chinese electronics that have a high failure rate and are made in horrible conditions."
You mean like every other computer maker...Dell as well? As far as a high failure rate, can you back that up or is that just you spouting crap?
"They have one of the worst environmental records (Dell has one of the best)."
So you believe the hype from Greenpeace? Really? The fact that Dell has certainly made a lot of noise about changing their environmental policies but have done dick (Apple is guilty of this as well) all about it?
Greenpeace choose Apple because they seem to get the lion's share of attention these days. They show up at Macworld with diesel generators running all day long to keep some inflated Apple going (way to green it up GP), passing out paper fliers that most people glance at and then throw away, and then use the same deisel generator to power a green spotlight at the Apple Store near the Moscone Center. They got lots of press to come by and listen to their nonsense because of it. How much press would they get if they sat outside Dell's headquarters with the same tactics? Don't strain yourself, I'll give you the answer...zero.
You don't have to use, like, or even pay attention to Apple products. I won't be offended. But if you're going to talk garbage, at least make an attempt to be accurate or post links to back up what you say. Otherwise you're an idiot spouting nonsense.
- ThirdPrize, on 08/20/2008, -1/+6They are both computer manufacturers?
- HornyHeathen, on 08/20/2008, -5/+0Does Michael Phelps Have A Apple Tattoo?

- k4rm4, on 08/20/2008, -2/+18Dumbest article ever.
- Chronictrees, on 08/20/2008, -1/+1If it has to do with Apple, Linux, a top 10 list or Legos, people will Digg it regardless of how stupid it is.
- GarryBarker, on 08/20/2008, -8/+4they're both cool, have done great achievements, both beat the crap out of the competition, and both break records! Go Apple!
- imnojezus, on 08/20/2008, -2/+11Man, talk about a pointless, sensationalist title.
- xatx3, on 08/20/2008, -9/+3look at apple trying to piggyback on phelps' fame
- MacParrot, on 08/20/2008, -2/+2This is an article by Forbes. Forbes is not owned by Apple. Michael Phelps is a swimmer...also not owned by Apple. Apple had nothing to do with Forbes, this article, Michael Phelps, or the fact that you are an idiot that can't seem to grasp simple concepts.
Please assure everyone on Digg that you have no interest in breeding- xatx3, on 08/20/2008, -1/+0there are a ton of paid apple fanboys at forbes and businessweek
- MacParrot, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1Paid by whom? Apple or the publication they work for. People who report on technology naturally have their own biases based on the technology they themselves prefer. There are many people at those same publications that prefer Microsoft Windows as well, so what?
If you had said that this was a poorly concieved article, I would not have disagreed with you. Neither have anything to do with the other and this should never have been published. But your original response was that somehow Apple was behind this and THAT is just stupid.
You didn't get dugg down by fanboys ( though I'm sure that's what you want to believe), you got dugg down by people who know the difference between a bad article and hyperbole. Apple had nothing to do with this article. Your only redemption is to at least acknowledge that.
- bebizzy, on 08/20/2008, -3/+4OOOVER-RATED! *clap. clap. clapclapclap.* Ok. Not true. Phelps pulled off one of the greatest athletic feats of all time. Apple is an OOOver-hyped company that is finally starting to behave like everyone else in the industry with failed launches, poor customer service, and under-performing hardware.
- bbtweb, on 08/20/2008, -5/+1poor customer service? you must not have ever dealt with them. under-performing hardware? it depends what you use it for. I wouldn't put any other computer in my recording studio, because no other computer could handle what a Mac tower can in terms of recording.
- ventralnet, on 08/20/2008, -1/+4BS... thats all in the software
- KSUdesigner, on 08/20/2008, -1/+5No other computer can handle what a Mac Pro can? Sorry that's just plain wrong, there are plenty of PCs that can be built that are just as powerful. Maybe you prefer the recording software that you use on your Mac, but the Mac is far from superior when it comes to hardware performance.
FWIW, I own two iMacs and have a Macbook being delivered today. - bbtweb, on 08/20/2008, -5/+1I'm not arguing that the Mac is far superior in hardware performance all around, but - as I said - in terms of recording, it would cost me almost $1000 more to build a PC that could handle what my Mac can in the studio. I have used both before and it's definitely not in the software since the software is made by another company completely and is available for all platforms.
- MacParrot, on 08/20/2008, -1/+4@bbtweb
Both ventralnet and KSUdesinger are correct. Since Apple went Intel, there really is not that much difference between Macs and WinPCs these days. While you may prefer Macs for your recording studio, it IS the software that makes the difference - bbtweb, on 08/20/2008, -3/+1i'm running a G5
- phoomp, on 08/20/2008, -1/+1You're running a computer that, at best, is over 2 years old and you think no other computer can handle what it does?
- bbtweb, on 08/20/2008, -5/+1poor customer service? you must not have ever dealt with them. under-performing hardware? it depends what you use it for. I wouldn't put any other computer in my recording studio, because no other computer could handle what a Mac tower can in terms of recording.
- kayfouroh, on 08/20/2008, -1/+1They both look good and can both really excel at one thing?
- doctordbx, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1Oh dear... is someone going to clean this mess up?
- nonsequitur668, on 08/20/2008, -7/+1Apple's causeries are utterly disgusting -- so much so, that if there are any children or sensitive people reading this post, I suggest that they stop now and not read what I am about to describe. For the sake of review, some vapid ninnyhammers are actually considering helping Apple do away with intellectual honesty. How quickly such people forget that they were lied to, made fun of, and ridiculed by Apple on numerous occasions.
Apple somehow manages to get away with spreading lies (black is white and night is day), distortions (without its superior guidance, we will go nowhere), and misplaced idealism (its plaints are a breath of fresh air amid our modern culture's toxic cloud of chaos). However, when I try to respond in kind, I get censored faster than you can say "deintellectualization". If Apple's hatchet jobs aren't demented, I don't know what is. Apple is possessed by the devil. I always catch hell whenever I say something like that so let me assure you that it seizes every opportunity to wage an odd sort of warfare upon a largely unprepared and unrecognizing public. I cannot believe this colossal clownishness. Any sane person knows that it would be charitable of me not to mention that the wisdom that comes from maturation of the spirit, mind, and body will some day prevail over the idiocy of Apple's snow jobs. Fortunately, I am not beset by a spirit of false charity so I will instead maintain that we must work together to break the spell of great expectations that now binds bumptious pissants to Apple. What can you do to help? For starters, you might want to defy the international enslavement of entire peoples. I personally derive great satisfaction in doing that sort of thing because Apple has been known to "prove" statistically that an open party with unlimited access to alcohol can't possibly outgrow the host's ability to manage the crowd. As you might have suspected, its proof is flawed. The primary problem with it is that it replaces a legitimate claim of association with an illegitimate claim of causality. Consequently, Apple's "proof" demonstrates only that its "I'm right and you're wrong" attitude is poxy because it leaves no room for compromise.
We are at a crossroads. One road leads into the light of a bright, shining future in which deluded, sordid criminal masterminds like Apple are thoroughly absent. The other road leads into the darkness of communism. The question, therefore, is: Who's driving the bus? The complete answer to that question is a long, sad story. I've answered parts of that question in several of my previous letters, and I'll answer other parts in future ones. For now, I'll just say that I can say one thing about Apple. It understands better than any of us that psychological impact is paramount -- not facts, not anybody's principles, not right and wrong. I'm not suggesting that we behave likewise. I'm suggesting only that we must show Apple that we are not powerless pedestrians on the asphalt of life. We must show it that we can follow through on the critical work that has already begun. Maybe then Apple will realize that its argument that it's okay if its flimflams initially cause our quality of life to degrade because "sometime", "someone" will do "something" "somehow" to counteract that trend is hopelessly flawed and entirely circuitous. I think I've dished it out to Apple as best as I can in this post. I hope you now understand why I say that Apple's goal is to bathe in splendor while the rest of us go to work in the mines.- Laminarcissus, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2This person is copy/pasting auto-generated text from Scott Pakin's complaint generator, found here:

So not only is it a waste of everybody's time, it's not even an attempt at an original creative effort. He's also done it over and over and over again, so I'll try to post this each time so no one else has to waste their time responding.

- vrillco, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2This has about as much to do with Phelps as uhm... iphones have to do with chia pets.
***** Phelps, and ***** Forbes for promoting this article like the millions of foreign blog plagiarists... that's really ***** low of them, a big ugly tarnish on their reputation. - dropbox, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2What's the point of comparing Dell to Apple? I see no correlation what-so-ever. From the perspective of desktop market share Apple is a software vendor, whereas Dell is a hardware vendor. Dell may ship with Vista, but they do not develop it. Apple may ship with PC hardware, but they don't develop it either. So in effect, this article is complete *****. Apple's market share may be increasing due to the failure of Vista, but that doesn't mean Dell is collapsing. Nor does it prove Apple is gaining on the market.
Apple vs. Dell is a weak argument in any right. Both use the same hardware format, and both are compatible with Mac OS, Linux/Unix, and Windows. Apple computers are no different once you remove the shinny case and stickers, including the OS.- ftx437, on 08/20/2008, -0/+2I never thought of it like that but that does make sense...
- phoomp, on 08/20/2008, -0/+1What *don't* Apple and Michael Phelps share in common?
