- WiseWeasel, on 09/02/2008, -0/+1No. They have a one-year warranty, extendable to two years for $100.
- DeFex, on 09/03/2008, -3/+8When a new model comes out the iwarranty chip is activated which gradually deteriorates the battery and electronics.

Actually, that trend follows for used MacBooks and MacBook Pro laptops (as well as Mac Pro and iMacs) -- Apple products have just an insane resale value (compare used MacBooks with used Dell, Acer, Toshiba etc. laptops).
- cheez124, on 09/03/2008, -0/+3wow, didnt they sell like 6 4gb iphones?
- Harbinger1080, on 09/02/2008, -1/+34I didn't plan on upgrading to a 3g until I saw how much I could get for my unlocked 1st gen on ebay. The fact that I could make money in the deal sort of pushed me along.
- sasper, on 09/03/2008, -0/+4Same here. I realized I could sell my old iPhone 8gb (in perfect condition, but with no accessories) for the same price as a new iPhone 16gb + activation + a new case, I had to sell it.
- evanmorris, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1I just sold my old 8GB iPhone for $590 on ebay. Mine was still barely under warranty so I went to the Apple store and told them it was randomly restarting (which it did a couple times). They gave me a replacement one. Then I turned right around and bought the new one. Sold the 1st Gen one on ebay a couple days later for almost twice the price of the new one.
Good stuff.

- kazakal28, on 09/03/2008, -7/+9This is going to get dugg down obviously but.... I'm starting to hate my iPhone.. The auto-correct feature cannot be turned off and impedes my texting and google searching constantly. It is impossible to type shorthand or slang
- mikusd, on 09/03/2008, -0/+4ok, so did you miss the fact you can tap the autocorrected word to cancel it? thats what the x is for....
OR
Jailbreak and install one of several autocorrect utilities available on Cydia and The Installer...then you can turn it on and off at will - sasper, on 09/03/2008, -0/+6Or just go into an email and type the word(s) you keep getting "corrected" on over and over (clicking the x every time) and the phone remembers the words that you use. Really easy to do actually.
- rocknrollninja, on 09/03/2008, -3/+6All these "solutions" are an unnecessary hassle though. He should be able to turn it off without having to install an extra program or start blank emails to type every single word it may autocorrect. or tapping every signle word it did autocorrect to undo it
- kazakal28, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2Thank you
- r00fus, on 09/03/2008, -1/+1Apple won't let you turn it off because it's that much worse to type without correction than to let it learn your habits.
If you don't like it, hack it or go back to your blackberry. It took me 6 months, but I'm now faster on my iPhone typing than I was on my Treo. - robogobo, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1These are not "solutions". They're the designed procedure for making the touch keyboard function properly.
- chip0wa, on 09/03/2008, -0/+4i like auto correct. when im drunk as ***** i can still type!
- dumbkiwi, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2I know this is crazy talk, but why not turn it off in the settings? Settings -> General -> Keyboard. Set "Enable Autocorrection" to "off". Or is that only available in the 1.1.* firmware on a 1G?
- Powerdrift, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2Unfortunately, that is not present in the 2.0.* firmware…
- kazakal28, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2Wow was that really in 1.1, WTF would they take that away
- robogobo, on 09/04/2008, -0/+2too many people with fat fingers were complaining that the keyboard didn't work well after turning off the auto correct. so in 2.0 they disabled the disable and now because it learns your word usage and eventually doesn't make the wrong correction anymore.
- mikusd, on 09/03/2008, -0/+4ok, so did you miss the fact you can tap the autocorrected word to cancel it? thats what the x is for....

- mugupo, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1Yea, i know i was making a wise choice, choose get the original instead of waiting for 3G, it will take a while to solve all the 3G issue they had now. Of course long term 3G still will be top, but as it now nothing beat the old school iphone.
- Galaxylander, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2There aren't any 'iPhone 3G' issues, AT&T has essentially been proven to be the problem, set the iPhone 3G to Edge and it's exactly the same as your old one with a bit *better* reception with WiFi and Edge. Most of the problems are with 2.0, the only reason I can see to buy an older iPhone is for software < 2.0.
- jls33fsls, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2I got $450 for my year old, well used 8GB iPhone on eBay a few weeks back.
- Scopitone, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2You know this is also leading to increased accounts of people getting their iPhones stolen?
- GrandMaster, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2I had my buddy come to the apple store with me and buy me a 16gig 3g and then we swapped sim's in the store out of his Tmobile blackberry into my 8gb 2g iPhone, transaction complete. he got a good deal.. cancel of his data plan and no contract..and Im an att bitch for 2 more years..
- samimnot, on 09/03/2008, -2/+5NextWorth:
“On eBay: a 16-GB version of the first-generation iPhone goes for about $600, and an 8-GB model in good condition commands $500”. When it was new, the 16-GB phone sold for $499; the 8-GB model went for $399.
Chris Whittome:
“If enough consumers opt for used rather than new devices, Apple CEO "Steve Jobs [may have] a big problem"
A big problem?
LMAO…I bet every CEO in the world would love having a problem like this. Your old generation electronics device, selling for more then it did when it was new (1 ½ years ago)…- MoFoKeR, on 09/03/2008, -1/+2he isnt getting a cut of the resell..worst thing that can happen he can jackup the price of future phones..just becouse of this
- samimnot, on 09/03/2008, -0/+0Apple never expected a cut of any "re-sales"...and prices of each new version will be coming down (not up). Because they have improved distribution, and lower component costs.
- dreadful, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2Not sure why you say apple would love this problem people are buying the old iphone and not from apple
- samimnot, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2They've sold almost 3 times as many 3G's already...first gen. keeping their value is making Apple look great.

http://www.iphone-hacks.com/ - HOTM, on 09/03/2008, -4/+3Ok quick question. I heard somewhere you can pay like 100-200 bucks to terminate AT&T service. Couldn't you buy an iPhone, unlock it, sell it on ebay for 600 bucks, and cancel? Someone tell me what I'm missing.
- greensky, on 09/03/2008, -1/+1Only thing I can think of is that I know the 1st gen will run on a non-AT&T service. Will the 2nd gen ones do that?
- robogobo, on 09/04/2008, -0/+1nope.
- durazine, on 09/03/2008, -4/+1Bought my 4GB for $100. Just told the guy it's half the price of the new one. The 2g broke a couple days before he got the 3g, apple gave him a brand new 2g instead of fixing it. So I bought a brand new 2g in the box for $100.
- rocknrollninja, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2i hate you.
- 13373h4X0r, on 09/03/2008, -2/+0If you buy a new 3G iPhone today, will things displayed on the screen appear yellowish when compared to the same things displayed on the original iPhone screen?
Some 3G iPhones are evidently back-lit with a yellowish light instead of a white light. I'm wondering if that has been corrected, or if that's something that Apple will never fix. (Perhaps some people think the "warmer" colors are better, but I think it is terrible to let the back-light decide that white will not be white.)- species, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2this was fixed a long time ago with a firmware update........
- cheez124, on 09/03/2008, -1/+1i just upgraded my 1st iphone to a 3g on sunday, the new one is great, and my dad will be using my old one, i dont think i could sell it due to the camera lens being scratched to ***** (hunch it was a jealous friend who has a ipod touch)

- rowlodge, on 09/03/2008, -1/+1ill get one ,when they go down to 50 bucks and only if its refurbished with a new battery.
- InorganicMatter, on 09/03/2008, -0/+1Sorry, I can't part with my original iPhone. There's just no compelling reason to "upgrade" - unless cheap plastic, a bulkier unit, tons of software glitches, connectivity problems, and draconian AT&T service terms are something to be desired. I'll say one thing for this original iPhone: it may be a bit slow by comparison to the 3G unit, but at least it always works.
- optophobia, on 09/03/2008, -1/+1a bulkier unit ? Obviously you havent held a new one since it is a lot lighter and feels LESS bulky. My guess is you can't get one.
- InorganicMatter, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2Eh? Put them side-by-side: the 3G unit is larger in every dimension: wider, taller, and thicker. (Don't be fooled by the curved edges - that's the oldest trick in the book to make something appear less bulky).
- optophobia, on 09/03/2008, -1/+1a bulkier unit ? Obviously you havent held a new one since it is a lot lighter and feels LESS bulky. My guess is you can't get one.
- cgruber, on 09/03/2008, -0/+2Funny, my original iphone 2G 8GB got damaged back around Christmas when I dropped it. It still works but its case is dented up and the buttons stick. I decided to put it on ebay when it became more hassle to mess with the buttons last week and it sold for $200 which surprised me quite a bit. But it got me a 3G 8gb so I'm not complaining.
- wangxiaoyu, on 09/04/2008, -0/+0good!!
- Lancelot9201, on 09/07/2008, -0/+1How can anyone be proud to have bought a 3G iPhone.? Considering all the 3G conneciton issues, the software lags that still exist, the need to buy programs, via the apple store, that are included on other similar priced phones, no "MMS", no "Bluetooth" & being forced to pay $15 extra per month for a service (3G) that's unreliable at best. Please, someone explain this to me, I'm a long time apple user & I can't for the life of me figure this out. Don't people read & do research before buying.?
