A common turn of phrase on the internet, generally used as an expression of quiet, subdued admiration for one's wit. Especially appropriate after a particularly deft pun.
It's used on fark a lot, usually with the picture of Fry from Futurama.

- IEatHamburgers, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Commercials are really, really targeted these days - it's hard to find a commercial for something you're not more or less expected to buy. Of course, it doesn't always work that way: I'm 17 and all I see are commercials for Countrywide refinance loans or whatever they're called. If I don't own a home why should I put up with these ridiculously repetitive commercials?

- toast1226, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8To me it'd be stupid to assume that it could even possibly have bluetooth built-in but just disabled -- why? Because it is going to cost them more per unit to make. And why add something that won't even be usable into the final build?
- mentor972, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5Because they're going to enable it later.... duh.
- Radan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Well, I don't think there's bluetooth in it either, but theoretically it could have bluetooth even though officially it shouldn't, like for example how the MacBook Pros had 802.11n Wifi cards built in even though they shoudn't. Apple could want to build in a bluetooth chip into it so that they can activate it later on if they decide to release some bluetooth specific features or accessories like for example wireless headphones or wireless syncing with your computer. Though, it's probably not the case (it's most likely just some leftovers from the iPhone), but who knows?
- toetagger, on 10/10/2007, -7/+1A carry over from the iPhone... Cheaper to leave it than retool.
- BrK1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14The software shown could be a carry-over also. Ie: the Bluetooth icon shows it's not working, because there IS NO BLUETOOTH HARDWARE.
- toetagger, on 10/10/2007, -6/+0Buried, I prefer Captain Crunch with the crunch berries.
- bowe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I bet only part of the bluetooth hardware is there. It's like my laptop. I went to my device manager and saw a device that said toshiba bluetooth and said 'wtf I don't have bluetooth do i?' I of course didn't have bluetooth but my model is available with bluetooth, so the onboard components to make bluetooth work are still there.
- digggggggggg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That's kinda like Dell and their servers with SATA RAID capability. The chipset is there, but you gotta pay them $500 for a 1x2" card containing a single IC to unlock it.

- mikesay98, on 10/10/2007, -18/+9As it stands, I'm going with the nano. However, if the iPod touch had bluetooth, I'd definitely go for it instead. Though someone did mention it doesn't have A2DP support, so I wouldn't be able to use my Motorola wireless bluetooth headphones...

- jads, on 10/10/2007, -3/+73I doubt it has disabled bluetooth. The X probably means no bluetooth found. The diag software may be similar to the one used on the iPhone.
If a device is using a wireless radio signal - disabled or not - doesn't it have to show this legally?- samuelcotterall, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14I'm with you on this theory, although, I'm sure the iPhone diagnosis software would have "Microphone" and "3G" or whatever it uses.
- philippbock, on 10/10/2007, -3/+45Yeah, looks like it doesn’t come with a battery, either …
- bkemper, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Oh, it has one, but Apple disabled it. That is what this article asserts a red X means. Supposedly they went to the trouble of squeezing the bluetooth hardware into this slim little package, adding to the manufacturing cost, and then decided they really don't want it to do anything.
- PathDaemon, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1It could just be part of some chipset. It can often be cheaper to get something with more features than you need than custom build a chip.

- kent1146, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I believe you are correct, jads. If a device has the capability to transmit radio signals, then it must include a message from the FCC and abide by FCC rules for consumer electronics (you know.... this device will nto cause harmful intereference, and must accept any harmful interference from external sources).
Lack of this message would mean lack of radio hardware.- senatorpjt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+22It does already have Wifi, though.
- geminitojanus, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2And? Because it has WiFi it has Bluetooth?
Sheesh, they have to declare on the box what radio technologies at what frequencies are in use according to US law, so no, the thing doesn't have Bluetooth.
Need even /more/ evidence? Break the ***** thing open and PROVE it doesn't have Bluetooth, so we can put the silly rumormongering to rest for good.- senatorpjt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1No, because it has WiFi it needs to have a FCC message. Bluetooth and Wifi also use the same frequency range.
- geminitojanus, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2And? Because it has WiFi it has Bluetooth?
- Kitsune818, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3What you are referring to is the FCC Part 15 notice... sometimes called the "Part 15 License" although it really means that it's an unlicensed device that may produce emissions but at a level that's passable by the FCC. Since the device has wifi that operates under Part 15, it will have that notice somewhere in the docs. It doesn't tell us anything about blue tooth.
- senatorpjt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+22It does already have Wifi, though.
- toetagger, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Isn't WiFi radio? Is there a warning for that? They could satisfy the FCC requirement with the enable process.
- ChuyMatt, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4You can apply for a waver from the FCC to include it in the documentation and not on the hardware. Do you think apple would let that crap be on their products?!

- DaleoftheUK, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Cool temp sensor and maybe bluetooth. Not going to be convinced until someone takes it apart and shows it has bluetooth.
- jellomizer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It could be for the iPhone they can use the same software. They may have experimented with bluetooth in beta but didn't get the results they wanted from it.
- ihate2regist, on 10/10/2007, -8/+2ebay?
- robogobo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7so what are they going to do, in a year they'll say, "hey, by the way you had bt all along. hehehe, aren't we cute?" I don't think so. If you don't have bt hardware in a computer running OS X, you'll see the same indication that no bt is found.
- toetagger, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1I was thinking that... but what's intriguing here is a special Icon for it...
- geminitojanus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Why is this so interesting to everyone? It's the same platform as the iPhone. The iPhone has Bluetooth, the iPod touch doesn't. The software is very likely common to both devices.
- toetagger, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1I was thinking that... but what's intriguing here is a special Icon for it...
- roflcopterdown, on 10/10/2007, -16/+3What is an iPod? A miserable pile of secrets! But enough talk... Have at you!
- ncapone, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Dugg for Symphony of the Night.
- gaijintendo, on 10/10/2007, -6/+9The only sensible use for bluetooth on an iPod Touch is for A2DP high quality bluetooth headphones.
Apple are probably trying to make a proprietary protocol for bluetooth earphones so they can sell a lorry load of their own headphones, or license this technology. It would be a poor show on Apple's part, but it is good money making.
A2DP is the one main thing I would buy a Ipod Touch for, but for now I am willing to wait it out.- jellomizer, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Or it is the same diagnostic software for the iPhone.
- DanITman, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1There are many more reasons to have bluetooth. You could also use it to connect to your phone and use Safari over EDGE or 3G when wifi isn't available.
- aservin, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0And then you do not need and iPhone. It rocks.
Also, you could sync your iPod with itunes without cables. I think the use of bluetooth will be just great. - bkemper, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That assumes Safari for iPod/iPhone can accept or do anything with sound input, which is a pretty big assumption.
- aservin, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0And then you do not need and iPhone. It rocks.
- toetagger, on 10/10/2007, -4/+0Coexistence-friendly WiFi and Bluetooth (using UniFi and BlueCore)
Developers co-locating both Bluetooth and WiFi functions inside a very small form factor such as a cellphone have to contend with 'front-end overloading' (an effect caused by the transmission power levels which - when combined with the proximity the embedded system imposes - are enough to saturate or de-sensitise the front end of the nearby RF chain). Co-ordination using time domain multiplexing (TDM) between the two protocols - also known as Activity Signalling - is required to overcome this, and several proprietary schemes have been devised.
CSR's Bluetooth devices such as the EDR-equipped BlueCore4 support all common co-existence measures developed by WiFi silicon vendors. However, as CSR also manufactures the UniFi 802.11 b/g solution for embedded applications, it's been possible to include further optimization measures. CSR has implemented these additional features, because even when current protection techniques are utilised, there are still co-existence issues. Take the example of someone using Bluetooth for voice communication while also surfing the web. The synchronous Bluetooth SCO connection will be disrupted by the packet reception acknowledgements that WiFi is forced to transmit - resulting in bad voice quality for the Bluetooth link.
We have produced hardware which demonstrates that obtaining both devices from CSR provides access to a ready-engineered co-existence solution. Demonstrations include a VoIP call over a WiFi link using a Bluetooth headset; streaming stereo music to Bluetooth headphones while simultaneously browsing the internet or downloading an MP3 file; receiving a phone call over a Bluetooth headset while surfing the internet; and simultaneous transfer of files over Bluetooth and WiFi links. The TDM and proprietary measures built in the UniFi device (with UMA-compliant 17 dBm radio frequency output power) ensure that synchronous Bluetooth HV3 packets do not cause interference. - xswag, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Bluetooth Filesharing between devices would be a nice touch.
- CATSCEO, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2That would get the music industry up and arms.
- jpinsonault, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0it has wifi
- neferiousrich, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1do british people really say lorry load?
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Apple's propensity in the past has not been towards the use of proprietary protocols when open ones already exist. Thus the use of the open standard "Bonjour" instead of some other closed discovery mechanism.

- CovardeAnonimo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+30this whole "touch has bluetooth but it's disabled" stuff is plain wishfull thinking.
my notebook came with linux pre-installed, it has no bluetooth hardware, but mandriva came with all the bluetooth software right there on the menu. i just installed mac os X on my desktop, it has drivers for apple's airport card even thought i don't have such hardware.
the bluetooth icon on this touch only means it's the same software build as the one in the iphone, just the bluetooth hardware isn't there. the software stack will just take a few kB of flash space for nothing, just like the bluetooth apps in my notebook or the airport drivers in my hackintosh.- batmant, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Exactly. That take-apart shows where the Bluetooth chip in the iPhone is, and what it looks like. Taking apart the iPod Touch would reveal whether bluetooth hardware is present or not.

- ChoadNamath, on 10/10/2007, -10/+2What's all this BS about iPods and iPhones running OS X? They run OS X just like my PDA runs Windows XP. Maybe it looks like OS X, or even shares *some* code with OS X, but it's not really OS X.
- ucg1, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3Yes, and my [insert Linux-based device here] doesn't run Linux, it just runs an OS that looks like Linux, and shares *most* code with Linux, but it's not really Linux.
- Elranzer, on 10/10/2007, -7/+1Actually it runs on a firmware, not an OS.
- akhomerun, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8nobody ever claimed your PDA ran windows xp. it runs windows mobile, which may or may not share some windows code. Apple said that the underlying code is straight from OS X, which is true. They just changed the graphical shell and optimized it for running on a portable device. You know, an operating system is a lot more than just how it looks.
It's not BS just because you're a noob. - 35263526, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Poor analogy. "OS X" is "Windows" in Mac terms. 2000/XP/Vista would be Panther/Tiger/Leopard etc.
Your PDA runs a version of Windows(!) CE, likely WM2003 or WM5, just as the iPhone runs a version of OS X (we just don't, AFAIK, have a specific name for it).
- ucg1, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3Yes, and my [insert Linux-based device here] doesn't run Linux, it just runs an OS that looks like Linux, and shares *most* code with Linux, but it's not really Linux.

- karrock, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1It can only get hacked if there's actually a Bluetooth chip on the logic board. If not, everyone is SOL until Apple decides to put one there.
- TheSolomon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'm still waiting for the Bluetooth on the iPhone to get hacked so it's usable for more than headsets--you know, on the device that actually *has* been hacked and acutally *has* Bluetooth. I'd hold my breath on someone hacking Bluetooth on the Touch until the non-imaginary is hacked first. ;)
- freshgrease, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Doesn't the accelerometer icon look like a penis? Apple sends hidden messages!
- davidfilms, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0actually, the accelerometer actually moves whenever I pivot and move the iPod. The arrows grow longer or shorter and change toward the direction I'm tilting in the X, Y, and Z axis. The temperature also changes on that screen.
This all was cool , I was able to sell the iPod to someone in California thanks to this whole Engadget posting my pics. Gizmodo also has my pictures up. I sent them later pictures that are crisper.

- akhomerun, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1i don't think the bluetooth icon means anything. it's probably the same diagnostic software used with the iphone. why would they put bluetooth in without enabling it?
besides that, this could easily be faked. how do i know this isn't just the image viewer?
it all just smells funny.- JungleJimThink, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0yeah its all full of *****
oops bury me
- JungleJimThink, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0yeah its all full of *****
- kriminalintent, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6what would be killer is if you could use the wifi to connect to your shared itunes library, so then your could connect to your whole Music collection from your handheld when at home.
- jabberwolf, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1You can already do that with MS Mobile phones :P
- ahawks, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If you're home, why not just play music from the computer or extender (e.g., airtunes, appletv, etc)
Also, wifi will drain the battery quicker.
- jabberwolf, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1You can already do that with MS Mobile phones :P
- sfinney180, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0i dont what is an ipod touch without os x :)
- sfinney180, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0i messed that comment up dAMN ;O
- JungleJimThink, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0abit stingy :)
- davidfilms, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Yep. I've tried everything on this baby , and the "reset" button on the right doesnt work. I've even tried to zap it in iTunes. BTW, how would i go about dumping the flash. Peeps keep telling me to do it.
Any buyers? I just posted this on ebay (they kept recommending me to do this) - Nxt471, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5"Note that clicking on the Bluetooth icon brings up an empty screen which reads "nothing to see here.""
hmmmm - jferrari, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Maybe they are waiting for leopard before they release the bluetooth.. and hopefully they will then support stereo bluetooth on MacBook's too.
- exomni, on 10/10/2007, -5/+0If the iPod touch had bluetooth, I would buy it almost immediately.
VOIP ftmfw! - jabberwolf, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1Um I already have a phone, mp3 player, blue tooth ( using Rokr headset), can link to home mp3 files and listen to streaming radio.
It's called Windows Mobile. Mine's a Sprint Mogul but I'm sure there are quite a few others.
Common, why so slow in the game or are Macfans really that blinded? - lunasc, on 10/10/2007, -5/+0how did this guy get a touch anyway? I didn't think they shipped until the end of Sept.
- latca, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2What's with the speaker button. I thought the ipod touch does not have any built in speakers.
- CATSCEO, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Maybe its the clicker?
- davidfilms, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0It has a clicker and it has an alarm sound (for alarms ;-) ). But, when I tried selecting the speaker icon there, it says "Nothing to see here" and Reset on the top right (which doesn't respond!)
- kyote, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2If it has bluetooth, wouldn't it have an FCC ID sticker on it somewhere?
- CATSCEO, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Apple wouldn't allow that eyesore on the device, maybe a laser engraving or something
- mateo60, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Maybe the bluetooth is disabled at a temprature above 34.5 degrees...... Duh.
- bohbohs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0i digg it. Doesnt look like a fake especially after seeing the video..
- maybeway36, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2no /bin/sh for you :(

Aviation Resources - http://www.sristysaviation.com/airhostesstraining. ... - edebiyat, on 12/31/2007, -0/+0Apple are probably trying to make a proprietary protocol for bluetooth earphones so they can sell a lorry load of their own headphones, or license this technology. It would be a poor show on Apple's part, but it is good money making. Regards,http://www.anarsist.org/
