- solid12345, on 11/09/2008, -11/+1Nice? Journey is a ***** safe-for-radio power ballad pop-rock band for preps and middle-aged lawyers.
- username7410, on 11/09/2008, -0/+8Dude, this isn't about Journey, it's about 'Don't Stop Believin'... that song transcends Journey. Lighten up.
- jaihu, on 11/09/2008, -7/+1I agree. It is nice. Journey fans are the only ones stupid enough to pay for their downloads. Seems consistent to me.
- streak, on 11/09/2008, -1/+2The #1 song has been downloaded on iTunes 2M+ times. At 7 cents each to the artists, that's a whopping $140K+ for them.

- Brododium, on 11/09/2008, -10/+30I've heard that (believe it or not) André Rieu ranks highly in paid-downloads on iTunes, because his target demographic doesn't know how or where to download them free-of-charge. I may be totally talking from my arse... oh well.
- kylejn, on 11/09/2008, -1/+11Who? Never heard of him.
- Vincent21212, on 11/09/2008, -1/+2The truth is, nobody knows that guy well enough for him to pop up on LimeWire, he's no Young Jeezy
- MikeonTV, on 11/09/2008, -8/+39I say Tony didn't get shot!
- EmitStop, on 11/09/2008, -0/+12I agree. People like to say that the one guy was going into the bathroom to get a gun (like in The Godfather).
But that doesn't make sense, you aren't checked for a gun before entering an ice cream parlor.- machocheese34, on 11/09/2008, -5/+1he did come in at the same time as AJ, maybe it was his bodyguard?
- DiggityDugged, on 11/09/2008, -1/+4When he walks into the restaurant he has a bulge in his left pocket -- he already has a gun. He just goes into the bathroom for a better shot at Tony, and possibly his family. Earlier in the season, not once but twice they say that only members of the mafia get killed, never family. However, not once, but twice, they also said that killing Phil would bring out hundreds of others in that family to be the next in line of command. When Phil got shot, it was right in front of his family. So when he died, one of the hundreds of others ordered Tony to be shot in front of his family.
The only thing about the last episode I can't figure out is how (if it's even explained at all) that they knew Tony would be there. There's an odd scene where Tony says "who could she tell?" in reference to AJ's new girlfriend who stays with him at the family safe house, and she is given the information of where they're eating at that night, but it makes no sense that she would be a rat. To who? Then there's Meadow, whose boyfriend who is the son of a mafia man, would probably know where she was going to dinner that night, but again, it makes little sense that he would be a rat.
I got the feeling that Paulie might be the rat since he was paranoid of the mouse (rat) finding cat that appeared in the last few episodes. The one that looks at Christopher's photo all the time. But I side with the theory that the cat is a symbol of the character Pussy (pussy-cat) and he stares at Christopher because Pussy was also killed by Tony. In the last episode Paulie agrees to step into a role that even he admits will probably kill him, so the cat is there to warn him and watch over him.
Sure, even Tony says the rat was Carlo, but that doesn't explain how they knew he'd be at that restaurant unless it was as simple as someone following Carmella there. The only other explanation is that it was the FBI, and not a death in the final scene. Which is unlikely. - andrewlotta, on 11/09/2008, -1/+2Paulie signed for this show with an agreement that he would not be portrayed as a "rat".
- Mujokan, on 11/09/2008, -1/+10I say he did get shot. The guy was going to the bathroom to pull out his gun for a surprise attack. I doubt he shot the rest of the family, going by the MO of other such killings in the series.
From David Chase's various comments, it is clear to me that he got wasted. Note that the suspicious guy is credited as "Man in Members Only Jacket". There was an episode called "Members Only" about a jacket from that 80s clothing line that was all about "the only way out of this thing is death".- BoonTobias, on 11/09/2008, -0/+4is that the episode with richie? now i gotta watch it again
- Mujokan, on 11/09/2008, -0/+3It's this episode when Eugene Pontecorvo wins the lottery.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Members_Only_(The_Sop ... - Mujokan, on 11/09/2008, -0/+2Sorry, he inherited it, he didn't win it.
- 12916studios, on 11/09/2008, -0/+10A shot by shot analysis of the scene reveals that in all likelihood...he did. It's honestly an incredible read if you have any interest in how well a film is constructed and how everything really does mean something.
http://alessonaday.wordpress.com/2007/06/15/sopran ...- Mujokan, on 11/09/2008, -0/+4For me the overwhelming reason is that it's the only ending that makes sense in terms of Tony's character. He is supposed to be a tragic figure, who had so many other possibilities, but couldn't escape his upbringing. That is a theme in a lot of episodes. It would make no dramatic sense to have him live happily ever after.
Then looking at all the various clues (references to past shows, symbolism like the blogger mentions in your interesting link) and things David Chase has said, I just can't come to any other conclusion.
- Mujokan, on 11/09/2008, -0/+4For me the overwhelming reason is that it's the only ending that makes sense in terms of Tony's character. - snowbeard, on 11/09/2008, -2/+2Word. Who was left to order a hit? No one, that's who.
- DiggityDugged, on 11/09/2008, -0/+9This is crazy. Every time winter draws near I go back and finish an old TV show or two I never had the time to finish. I literally JUST watched the last episode of The Sopranos yesterday, and then I see this on Digg. Just baffling.
There's no doubt in my mind that the last episode's final scene was indeed a "last supper" that ends in death. So many religious symbols, the "Members Only Jacket Guy" listed in the credits to refer directly to the first episode of the last season where a similar nobody shot whacked someone with the theme of that episode being that you can never retire the mafia only die or be killed.. or in a mental hospital, but most importantly the talk with Bobby that was a flashback in the previous episode about how when you die you don't see or hear it coming. I just rewatched the first episode of season one about 20 minutes ago, and there's even a long camera pan of the Last Supper art in it at one point. Having onion rings being symbols for pieces of communion in church was genius. And if you say that's stretching for symbols, then ask yourself why they rebuilt the entire back wall of the restaurant during film shooting to more resemble the three sectioned backdrop of the Last Supper painting. Ironically, earlier in the last season, there's even a time when Tony looks at his burger and says he can't eat it, because there's onion on it -- that they will kill him. It all works like clockwork.
Hell, even Tony's shirt in last episode that resembles the shirt he was wearing when he got shot by Junior, both of those shirts resemble the shirt he was wearing at the end of episode one. It's obvious David Chase tried to make the last episode coincide with the first episode's imagery and symbolism as much as possible. The whole last season was a blatant full-circle conclusion to the events that happened in the first single episode. Rewatch it and you'll see all the scenes (Christopher's movie and death) and camera tricks (the same long pause on the same therapist's statue in the lobby as in one of the last episodes) I'm talking about.
6 seasons of one hour shows, and never a bad episode. What an amazing show.- bluepass, on 11/09/2008, -0/+1I agree with everything you've said. In fact I was going to mention the chat he had with Bobby in the boat.
I also think that they wanted to keep it open in a way in case they do decide to make another season or a movie later on. - Mujokan, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1Nice post.
The only episode I didn't like was the one in the last half of the last season where "Tony gets a gambling problem".
- bluepass, on 11/09/2008, -0/+1I agree with everything you've said. In fact I was going to mention the chat he had with Bobby in the boat.
- conaaah, on 11/09/2008, -3/+2I say it was the most ***** ending i could ever imagine to a television series that i had been watching for eight years...
- andrewlotta, on 11/09/2008, -0/+5No way, it was a phenomenal ending. When the scene cut to black, my heart was racing.
- androo002345, on 11/09/2008, -0/+1You must have missed the final episode of Seinfeld.
I wanted more from the Sopranos ending when I first watched it, but I've grown to accept the fact that it's open for debate and your own interpretation.
- cactusjack901, on 11/09/2008, -0/+0...does anybody but me recall that David Chase himself said tony didn't get shot? It was just meant to symbolize that things just keep going on, Tony isn't a changed man, Tony doesn't feel any sort of horrible regret for all that went on, it's just business as usual
- andrewlotta, on 11/09/2008, -1/+1I believe he didn't get shot. The scene was a completely normal day for Tony. Whenever he goes to a restaurant he is checking everyone that walks through the door to see if they are a threat to him.
- Mujokan, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1E.g. "There had been indications of what the end is like. Remember when Gerry Torciano was killed? Silvio was not aware that the gun had been fired until after Jerry was on his way down to the floor. That's the way things happen: It's already going on by the time you even notice it."
As I recall, on one of the commentaries they say that he made the same remark to James Gandolfini at the table read for the final episode: the flashback to the conversation Tony and Pussy have on the lake is supposed to be significant. - Jabba208, on 11/10/2008, -0/+0I thought it was a great ending, Tony died, His greedy family died (except for the daughter). They got what they deserved. No one needed to see the bloody ending to know that it happened. PS I bought the song from itunes after watching the episode.
- EmitStop, on 11/09/2008, -0/+12I agree. People like to say that the one guy was going into the bathroom to get a gun (like in The Godfather).
- anderzole, on 11/09/2008, -5/+17I think it was a cop-out of an ending
- Mujokan, on 11/09/2008, -0/+6I don't. I agree with David Chase that it would be ghoulish to see Tony die with his brains all over Carmella. I thought it was fine. The only question I have is that I don't think Tony would go out to eat with his family so soon after the end of a mob war. He has laid low for longer for less reason. I would imagine he would go to Italy for a few months or something.

- deadasdisco, on 11/09/2008, -3/+2i'm a dj. i can honestly say that i love journey, but every girl in america thinks this is "her song". this is right up there with "paper planes" by m.i.a., and "whatever you like" by t.i. how many times can you hear one song before you move on.
- mrraven200, on 11/09/2008, -0/+1Word!
- casey08, on 11/09/2008, -1/+3god no. never play this song at a party unless you want to hear single girl sing it as loud as they can
- dvsbstrd, on 11/09/2008, -1/+5GOD DAMN YOU DIGG.
Now this song just keeps playing over and over and over and over on my stereo.
It's too catchy. Stupid Journey. - BLish, on 11/09/2008, -7/+2i've loved Journey since i was a kid ... always loved them. i've had their greatest hits album since i was like 12 years old. The band Journey has been amazing throughout the years and their music has always had great shelf life.
the band Journey can thank their revived career directly to Sopranos using that song "Don't Stop Believing" as the closing song to the closing scene of this series. Because of the cult following of this show and their huge fan base, this song became a revived instant cult classic and revived Journey the band as being "cool" again.
I'm proud to say, I like Journey when Journey wasn't cool ... which was prior to about a year and a half ago.
I just don't like Journey with the asian guy singing Steve Perry's parts in concert. That asian dude sounds like Steve, but he'll never have the same stage presence! I still can't get over the fact that they found the asian dude through YouTube.
Thanks for the memories Journey... and we miss you Steve! come back!- ruforealz, on 11/09/2008, -2/+1stfu trying to get street cred for saying you liked 'em when they weren't cool

- Morose7, on 11/09/2008, -0/+6agreed
- SpeakerCity, on 11/09/2008, -0/+1I disagree. There was an in depth analysis of The Sopranos that was really interesting.
- Joliman, on 11/09/2008, -1/+4I for one am happy so many people have this song on their iPods, because there are virtually no opportunities to hear this song otherwise.

- DiggityDugged, on 11/09/2008, -10/+3This is crazy.
What an amazing show. - lou2005, on 11/09/2008, -13/+4Just a small town girl, livin' in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin' anywhere
Just a city boy, born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train goin' anywhere
A singer in a smoky room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile, they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on
Strangers waiting up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people living just to find emotion
Hiding somewhere in the night
Working hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice
Just one more time
Some will win some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on
Strangers waiting up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people living just to find emotion
Hidin' somewhere in the night
Dont stop believin'
Hold on to the feelin'
Streetlight people
Dont stop believin'
Hold on
Streetlight people
Dont stop believin'
Hold on to that feelin'
Streetlight people
