LAME - Silv3Ro, on 06/09/2008, -1/+2So... I guess unlocking won't save you anymore from expensive data plans... and the iPod Touch is far from dead...
- binford04, on 06/09/2008, -0/+8...and AT&T takes a crap on what would have been an awesome day.
If it was like the old plan, $60 a month, I would have bought one for sure. But almost $80 a month now? Sorry. In-store activation only sucks too. :(- CubeNerd, on 06/10/2008, -0/+1So much for the claim of a less expensive iPhone.
New claim:
Less expensive iPhone for people who can't do math.- oiooioio, on 06/10/2008, -0/+1Here is the math .... upgrading for me will actually save me $ (only 80 but still)
3G
$360 ($30*12 unl data) + $240 ($20*12 unl txt) + $480 ($40*12 voice plan) =$89.99/m or $1079.88/y +$199 (phone) = $1278.88
2G
$480 ($40*12 iphone data + unl) + $480 ($40*12 voice plan) = $79.99/m or $959.88/y + $399(phone) = $1358.88- ryansmith18, on 06/10/2008, -0/+1You pay 240 bucks a year for unlimited text messaging?
- oiooioio, on 06/11/2008, -0/+1no I currently pay 480/yr for unlimited data and txt ... i know i know, crappy
- kkiran, on 06/11/2008, -0/+13G
$360 ($30*12 unl data) + $480 ($40*12 voice plan) =$70/m or $830/y +$199 (phone) = $1029
2G
$240 ($20*12 iphone data + 200 texts) + $480 ($40*12 voice plan) = $60/m or $720y + $250(refurb phone! practically new!!) = $970
Your mileage may vary!

- ThePeacemaker02, on 06/09/2008, -1/+1So i guess I can't unlock it? I doubt I'm ever going to find an old iPhone now without being overpriced on eBay.
- sb07, on 06/10/2008, -1/+1knowing at&t's ***** customer management, this shouldn't be too hard to get around
- digitallysick, on 06/10/2008, -1/+1wow, thats crazy, if i worked for at&t the iphone launch week i would call in sick for sure! . It will be a lot of pissed people in line
- LMControl, on 06/10/2008, -1/+3As well, there are no more pre-paid plans either. ATT just took a big dump on the customers, but then again, what else is new?
- kkiran, on 06/10/2008, -2/+2This gives a reason for iPhone 1.0 users to rejoice. Except for 3G (not much of a coverage - http://windows-mobiles.com/?p=284 ) it ain't worth it. No processor speed bump, nothing attractive except for the supposed price which was debunked expensive at the end of the day over the current iPhone. GPS : Good option but no, I don't want to spend $400 / year just for 3G/GPS given their n/w.
Best bet : http://windows-mobiles.com/?p=282 and save on some initial charges. Don't subscribe by overlooking the data plan - it might end up $85+ after taxes. iPhone 1.0 is still priceless after iPhone 2.0 firmware!
Please educate your friends before they end up with massive phone bills from ATT! - MaxMWood, on 06/10/2008, -0/+2Im so pissed off that you have to activate in store. As a student I really can't afford the contract, so I would have no choice but to hack it and run it on a cheaper contract.
- DaviDaviDaviD, on 06/10/2008, -0/+1This is seriously lame news. 02 employees get to smother my new iPhone with their hands :/
