- darkmad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0pretty cool, but it's going to use too much power. Either they make a really good battery so that ipod has the same "meh" battery life the ipod currently has, or you can forget listenifn to your ipod during flights.
- roguepirate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0im pretty sure a wi-fi radio would put a good drain on your battery life.
- lollerskates, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Say hello to iPod viruses.
- abdultaiyeb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1hello
- fudgebrown, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0lol
- rocketrye12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hello! this assumes that you are using your ipod in a wifi enabled zone. google wifi anyone? Besides, I use my ipod mostly in places where wifi is not availible (in the car, plane, subway, school, boat) usually not in my house. I sure many would agree
- stereo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'll start paying attention when Think Secret posts something about it. From what I've heard, MOSR isn't the most credible of sources.
- klassik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah think about how happy all the starbucks will be when they've got 65 kids with their ipods sucking up the networks bandwidth clogging it up downloading.
- Gimpace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0MOSR is the worst source for apple rumors. They're almost always wrong.
- chesterton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This has no value proposition - even with 802.11g, you're looking at a data transfer rate of less than 1/8 the rate of USB 2.0, assuming nothing else is happening. This will suck battery life like nothing else. You get ~400 power cycles for the battery pack - this will require you to recharge pretty much constantly (unless it's something you can initiate from the iPod). I would hate to be surprised by a dead battery when the iPod was just sitting there on the desk doing nothing.
- nstern2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, I'm getting tired of all the new ipods that come out every other week. Why cant they just hold off a while and produce something that wont be obsolete in 2 weeks.
- smash, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Who cares.
- chevyorange, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Remember that new battery technology that allows a complete charge in just minutes? I'm afraid I can't remember the manufacutrer but you can bet you hiney that Apple will be amongst the first to use this tech - as all the statements above about power hits are true. Maybe more capacity isn't possible but faster recharging wouldn't be bad at all.
- LethaLImpuLse, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Me.
- MacGyver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Could someone clearify wether or not you can fast forward/rewind with the video ipod?
- Drahknon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, I just don't see buying something like this. I use my iPod for biking, working out, and the plane. I suppose there are people out there who might want to stream their music wirelessly, but there are other, less fussy and battery-draining solutions for that.
- tsupersonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0alright, the iPod thing has gone way too far, and this is coming from an iPod owner, keep the damn thing simple. It's useless to watch videos on a tiny screen, and now wifi? damn, I just wanna listen to music
- tobsterius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's MOSR, please take this rumor with a grain of salt. They have never been the most credible source for rumors.
- your_mom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0we kinda knew this was gonna happen soner or later, but i dont think it is gonna be a good idea. i think that they should make an ipod with built in bluetooth for wireless headphones, wireless itunes updates and what not. THATD be pretty cool and better than that.
- sockeatingdryer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Watch out for MOSR... they're like the grocer's tabloids of Apple rumour sites.
- FunkyWitDaSysTm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0dude!
- drakino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Heh, Mac OS Rumors. Always a site for a good laugh, just like the tabloids about an alien having an affair with some hillbilly.
I'm still waiting for the rumored, well, anything MOSR covers. So far, the only accurate tidbits on their site have been repostings of news reports of events after they happen. - Mongoose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0/orgasm
- soccerob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0sounds like there will soon be wireless podcasting that you can view available podcasts that are broadcasting within range of you. how bout that for an idea? free ipod: http://ipods.freepay.com/?r=23767479
- TheVetos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, I hope that Apple holds on to this one for a while, make it worthwhile, and plus people will be overwhemed.
I was surprised the released the 5g iPod so soon after the Nano, cause I figured they wolud let the sales dwindle on the nanos before the new iPod, but if you look at the two new 'Pods, they do look like a matching set, with the flat top, thinness, big screen for its size, smaller clickwheel.
Sorry, that was kinda off topic, I'm too influenced by the fellas at Diggnation. - frankg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Being able to browse and stream from other's music libraries sounds very enticing, Imagine walking in a crowd and as new iPods come into range sampling what your neighbors are listening to.
- godric21ph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've got a friend who is working for an IC manufacturing company here in the Philippines and he told me two weeks ago that they were currently producing wireless ICs for iPods.
- dgoswick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh what, now that the long standing 'Video iPod' rumor has been realized in an actual product, it's time for the next rumor to start? Next thing you know we'll be hearing Steve Jobs, "No one would use a Wi-Fi iPod, it's not practical..." How about a mobile phone iPod...oh wait that's been done already. What next?
- rewritable, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0New ipod every month? I was gonna buy one but not until they stop coming out with new ones.
- simX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sorry but no digg for MOSR. They have the worst track record, and I stopped reading them ages ago.
- leonbev, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hey... Let's help the Apple rumor sites out, and include a bunch of features that Apple might add to the iPod in the next 5 years! I'll start with 3...
1) A built-in TV tuner!
2) An 80 GB hard drive!
3) A new game simular to PacMan!
OK, it's your turn now! - Seaton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Step 1: Add WiFi To iPod.
Step 2: ?????
Step 3: Profit!!! - TVarmy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does the iPod even have a usable interface for Safari?
- daving31, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i'm kind of confused as to why it's never been bluetooth-enabled as much as apple pushes built-in bluetooth in all their computers.
- zurdo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wouldn't a Bluetooth iPod be a more sensible rumor? Wireless download of songs and podcasts would be great. It would also be harder to keep one's iPod charged.
- theminutetech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Freakin sweet. People are going to hack this IPod to HELL. Im so buying this. http://www.theminutetech.com
- gwjc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pretty weak; vingle could be about lots of things.. maybe it's going to be an iPod based marital aid.. Vag + Tingle = vingle ..
- the_snitch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Im sure MOSR has no sources whatsoever on their stories. pure speculation hoping to increase traffic on their site, and profit from the huge amounts of ads they seem to cram onto each page.
They continuously quote the source as the notorious "Grapevine", which i'm beginning to think may be the marajuana out back.. - Fennmacon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0has anyone seen the video 2015? they predict this and others, calling it the WIFipod
http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/epic - isoprophlex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What apple needs to create is an airport that streams video, like the express streams audio.
Brilliant. - isoprophlex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0as far as wifi capabilities,
streaming is unnecessary but nice,
the ability to update your ipod from a host computer on your network (without having to connect it) would be the real gold.
now if only it could charge wirelessly....
(or if that charge pad was up to par yet) - Thmstec, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0about time someone actually commented on this, its just common sense that it has been in the works. Of course I believed we would have a Safari iPod before a video iPod.
I personally think a bluetooth iPod is even closer to being released, why else would apple be putting Bluetooth 2.0 in all of their products?
Of course there could a conspiracy to do something with the PS3?!?!? (just a wild thought, after all the Cell is supposedly capable of running OSX.4) And with Apple and Sony competing kinda makes all the parallels the 2 companies have really strange... - funderbolt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is it not possible to hack iPods (minus the Nano) to add Wi-Fi capability at say 802.11b speeds?
It sounds like a logical step (albeit much like some bluetooth devices work today). Wouldn't someone at apple realize the power issue so that the iPod would only turn power on to wifi card when you choose the option "sync with the airport."
Why I'm interested in Wifi for the iPod is for the possibility of Roadcasting and TunA--P2P digital radio technology. Then, using Podzilla linux and create a global network of streaming ipod song stations.
The biggest problem with such a wifi adapter will be that the range will be very short like less than 30 ft. - DryPenguin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just get a PSP does everything iPods MIGHT do already, plus more.
- NSXROX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Now if they could just make it recharge wirelessly.
- the_snitch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Could noone digg MOSR ever again please. its just giving them more revenue through ads as people view their site. I personally think that the site might just be a joke (remember a while back when they went offline for 6 weeks or so, and someone actually made a joke copy of MOSR, claiming to be the real site?) That was hilarious.
- ross., on 10/12/2007, -1/+0God Apple is slow this these thing!
The current iPod should have all these things..why are they always years behind what there customers want?
Making one small 'innovation' at a time to maximise profit.
I can't wait for the day that Apple looses it's market. - rossbrown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They're going to have to make the "Don't steal music" caption on the iPod's packaging a lot bigger for this one.
