The Cold War (Eastern Block? Ever heard of it?) ended. The wall that separated the two Germanies fell.
Suddenly, we were one country.
And there was something you might call a culture shock.
Or to put it differently:
A lot of people from Eastern Germany - crawling out of an economic ***** and a 1984-ish system of repression and distrust - expected a capitalist paradise, and many of them got ***** over pretty bad, or did stupid things, or both.
The intention behind this slideshow (I can only guess here, but I'm pretty sure) was not your sexual arousal, but to show women who for the first time were offering their bodies as products that were evaluated on stage.

Why don't we think of men who compete in pageants as victims as well? Oh, that's right, men are adults who are fully capable of making decisions while women need to be protected from their innocent, childlike-naivety. Not condescending at all.
