- Chicken, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1Wow that capital ism is hilarious. (Top left.)
- abesdrisb, on 07/06/2008, -18/+13sex, beer, video games, digg
- cuntmate99, on 07/07/2008, -0/+24replace 'sex' with 'masturbation'
- michael43, on 07/07/2008, -0/+8He probably got the order wrong too.
- cuntmate99, on 07/07/2008, -0/+24replace 'sex' with 'masturbation'
- phetasy, on 07/07/2008, -4/+42ain't that the truth.
- damian7, on 07/07/2008, -12/+14So true.
- Incidents, on 07/07/2008, -12/+3This makes me laugh as much as Dilbert does.
- badwithcomputer, on 07/07/2008, -25/+11i made my own version:
http://i32.tinypic.com/wv2zo8.jpg- supermajic, on 07/07/2008, -2/+12I don't get it.
- bullox, on 07/07/2008, -9/+2I get that you don't get it.
- Tr33fiddy, on 07/07/2008, -0/+13Your version is not good.
- nickbeaton, on 07/07/2008, -4/+12you are really ***** stupid
- badwithcomputer, on 07/07/2008, -3/+9dugg you up.
- Zalyster, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Damn bwc, dugg you up.
- twiztidsinz, on 07/07/2008, -0/+15You like to be surrounded by large black men in prison?
- iDiggIt42, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3Hey, they say there is a fetish for everything. Maybe he's into prison rape.
- BoonTobias, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3dude...
- supermajic, on 07/07/2008, -2/+12I don't get it.
- vyralinfection, on 07/07/2008, -16/+190To be honest, you dont HAVE to do anything, theres just positive and negative consequences to doing those things
- Anator, on 07/07/2008, -4/+9Reminds me of a philosophy that goes like this.
There is no such thing as good or bad everything is just different.- dlllb, on 07/07/2008, -4/+2..But its exactly the same.
- Pittance, on 07/07/2008, -1/+2There is no such thing as good or bad. Everything is subjective.
- db0255, on 07/07/2008, -2/+1There was some study that said everything is socially learned, and that nothing is inherently good or bad, painful or not. Just take marijuana. It's a learned experience to like it or not.
- slingr, on 07/07/2008, -2/+23i don't have to keep breathing?
*starts holding breath to save energy*- rhinopig, on 07/07/2008, -5/+48With the consequence of you dying, yes.
- TnTBass, on 07/07/2008, -0/+26With the consequence of passing out, yes.
When you pass out, you will automatically start breathing again. - wickensworth, on 07/07/2008, -3/+7Automatically=have to
- vyralinfection, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1@wickensworth
not really, what if you pass out and land with your face in a deep puddle, all you'd be breathing is water
- bratterscain, on 07/07/2008, -7/+2And technically speaking, the things we like to do are almost essential as well. Play is meant for physical/mental gain and to keep healthy. Looking at it that way kind of takes the fun out of it when you're, in essence, required to do something to maintain your normal self. Thanks, just call me Mr. Sunshine.
- cwmather, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2Maybe your play makes you healthy, mine makes me fat and lazy.
- rhinopig, on 07/07/2008, -1/+5True. Also, who says you can't like to do something and also 'have to' do it. I guess if I had to title a piece of art "Life" mine would have more to do with making sure those 2 list have the greatest overlap possible.
- JustFender, on 07/07/2008, -1/+3i think the reason some lines in the right hand side were at equal height to some in the left was because they are things that are liked to do and have to be done.
- Pittance, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Possibly. A venn diagram would have been clearer.
- pensivewombat, on 07/07/2008, -8/+4It depends. As a determinist (except in the case of random occurances at the quantum level, but you don't have any control over those actions either), I would argue that you HAVE to do everything.
- eriksanerd, on 07/07/2008, -0/+13I was going to be a determinist, but I ultimately decided against it.
- nytejade, on 07/07/2008, -1/+2How can you be a determinist when you agree that occurrences at the quantum level are non-deterministic?
- KriptoNYC, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2True randomness would require the creation of something out of nothing, which is impossible.
- nofx1510, on 07/07/2008, -0/+5My 8th grade teacher always would say all you have to do is die and pay taxes and its so damn true.
- caramba420, on 07/07/2008, -1/+6Hate to break it to ya, kid, but your 8th grade teacher plagiarized Mark Twain.
- blast_flame, on 07/07/2008, -0/+4As a libertarian transhumanist I hope to make it so people don't need to do those either...
- XxLindyxX, on 07/07/2008, -1/+6It was not Mark Twain.
It was Ben Franklin who said, "In this world nothing is certain but death and taxes." - caramba420, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1*****, you're right... it WAS Franklin. I really feel like an idiot now...
- hamstix, on 07/07/2008, -1/+4Who is John Galt.
- morninglorii, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2Yeah... death.
- merreborn, on 07/07/2008, -1/+4Technically, you don't *have* to do anything.
But if you want to continue living the way you currently live, and/or achieve certain goals (which most people do), then there are a list of things you have to do to make that happen.- HoldenH, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3You have to die.
- caramba420, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1@Holden
Ray Kurzweil would like a word with you.
- series0ftubes, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Good point.
- Anator, on 07/07/2008, -4/+9Reminds me of a philosophy that goes like this.
- SuperIntendo, on 07/07/2008, -4/+6The things you like to do should be bolded lines.
otherwise everyone would kill themselves.- theshalit, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2I know what you mean.
- DanMcGuinness, on 07/07/2008, -17/+5This is stupid.
- BlackJacket, on 07/07/2008, -7/+4agreed. pointless and depressing
- thegreenspanput, on 07/07/2008, -2/+2stupid is being nice. This is retarded.
- moo2u2, on 07/07/2008, -1/+35this has got to be the most basic article i've ever seen on the digg front page...
but very true- norbiu, on 07/07/2008, -1/+6A picture's worth a 1000 words.
- tidu, on 07/07/2008, -2/+10A thumbnail's worth a... spoiled picture.
- gsp9216, on 07/07/2008, -10/+1BOWOP
- orenshk, on 07/07/2008, -9/+119oh so that's art.
- BlackJacket, on 07/07/2008, -1/+2Well, at least the artist will be dead before any money can be made from it.
- mhuggins, on 07/07/2008, -2/+18I just took a *****, this inspires me to try to sell it.
- oobi, on 07/07/2008, -0/+20Already had been done:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artist%*****
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piero_Manzoni - SteelFrog, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Wow oobi, how did you even know about that?
(it was a pretty interesting read)
- oobi, on 07/07/2008, -0/+20Already had been done:
- geoman2k, on 07/07/2008, -0/+7yea, its art. no one is forcing you to like it. that's the point of art.
- orenshk, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1Actually I'm pretty ambivalent about this piece. I probably have the wrong idea, and I'm sure other people see it differently, but what grabs my attention most is the combination of skill and creativity. Artists that I like combine their skill (doesn't have to be extraordinary, but it helps) with a meaningful message, and make me pause and think about the amount of work put into their delivery method and about the message itself. The picture linked up there does neither.
- jarklejam, on 07/07/2008, -0/+8http://round-up.tumblr.com/post/36411677/via-barra ...
- Punjabdasher, on 07/07/2008, -0/+56I envy the man that has such a generous work to fun ratio..
- 801NvizioN, on 07/07/2008, -0/+11He doesn't like doin much..
- CorneliusStump, on 07/07/2008, -25/+23buried for being stupid
- Joet1980, on 07/07/2008, -1/+3A little bit too ironic.
- Anator, on 07/07/2008, -8/+8As a computer engineer that is very true in my case. I am developing an eclipse RCP application for a small firm and I am just seeing the "have-todos" pile up. I can no longer say that I "love" doing what I do. It has become a routine. Instead I "like/love" reading slashdot articles, sci-fi books or cracking that occasional xkcd comic and of-course digging. I cannot sustain a life doing only those things that I like.
Ah. I envy those musicians. - judojon, on 07/07/2008, -4/+3from the thumbnail I thought it was going to be a link to xkcd
- dturnbull, on 07/07/2008, -4/+3Heh, I'm studying this guy's work in Art. His other drawings are more interesting (and funnier), although the artist himself seems to be a bit of a downer. Not a very jolly chap.
- ianthepetrock, on 07/07/2008, -6/+2I think this is wrong. You don't have to do the things you like to do...
- FredFredrickson, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Who said you did?
- SolidBones, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1I think you missed something.
- iwilldigg, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1Welcome to my club
- KaiSe7eN, on 07/07/2008, -4/+23So basically I should work at Google?
I have to do: Take A Nap
I like to do: Take A Nap- Punjabdasher, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3No free childcare anymore.
- RobotLeAwesome, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Google says: don't have kids.
- Punjabdasher, on 07/07/2008, -0/+3No free childcare anymore.
- freedmni, on 07/07/2008, -2/+1yup yup
- woowy, on 07/07/2008, -4/+3I think that there are not so meny items in "I LIKE TO DO" rubric!
- johnjohnstonson, on 07/07/2008, -10/+3What the ***** is wrong with digg these days? What a pointless, truistic piece of meaningless ***** on the front page. Did you learn anything from this crappy juvenille picture? Did it enrich your life in some facile desperate manner? What? We all have to do things we dont want to do? I would never have believed it until I saw this picture. Oh rejoice my feckless friends, for today digg has plummetted to new depths of irrelevence and inconsequential trivia.
Leaf stems. bare bones and malnourishment.
Lament with me the loss of the fat and gristle.- bustachops, on 07/07/2008, -1/+2get over yourself
- johnjohnstonson, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1Not exactly a discerning audience eh bustachops?
- DigitusAnonymus, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1GTFO
- fudged71, on 07/14/2008, -0/+1you are such a ***** idiot. get off digg
- FredFredrickson, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2If you thought Digg was anything but irrelevance and inconsequential trivia, you were wrong from the start.
- ZiggyPlayedG, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1No one is impressed by your vocabulary when you're being a douche.
- bustachops, on 07/07/2008, -1/+2get over yourself
- yukevster, on 07/07/2008, -1/+5What if you could turn all those "have to do"'s into "like to do"'s.
- kpne1home, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2I think people would be a lot happier if that could happen.
- RobotLeAwesome, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1comment about an additional obvious observation.
- kpne1home, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2I think people would be a lot happier if that could happen.
- GREEDOnvrFIRED, on 07/07/2008, -6/+5He should have titled it "My Life." Or "Complaining is easier than changing." Or "Boo Hoo poor Me."
- dudetaz2003, on 07/07/2008, -2/+5who pissed in your cereal?
- FredFredrickson, on 07/07/2008, -0/+4You totally missed the point.
- GREEDOnvrFIRED, on 07/07/2008, -1/+2I don't think I did Fred. But in the spirit of fairness why don't you tell me what the point was.
- KMartSheriff, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1I think, GREED, the point is you're an ***** who needs to go take a nap or eat or whatever. Bitter much?
- Issius, on 07/07/2008, -0/+1The last time he ate there was piss in his cereal, let's try not to remind him, kay?
- dudetaz2003, on 07/07/2008, -2/+5who pissed in your cereal?
- Sofi4n, on 07/07/2008, -7/+10I think this drawing sucks.
- Hodor, on 07/07/2008, -4/+2that's funny, what element are you based on the spectrum of likes you have.
I'm a helium. :( - cran, on 07/07/2008, -3/+8I don't get it. And if it's as stupid as I fear it is, I don't want to get it.
- fragsta, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2I have the feeling it's supposed to be two lists, and everyone looks at it and goes "Yeah, my life is like that too. Wow, insightful."
Which, I think, is probably what you mean by "as stupid as I fear it is."
If not, I don't get it. Either way, it don't like it.
- fragsta, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2I have the feeling it's supposed to be two lists, and everyone looks at it and goes "Yeah, my life is like that too. Wow, insightful."
- iChaz, on 07/07/2008, -2/+1that's good
- ExplorerNation, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1So cut out some of the "have to" stuff. Hire a house cleaner, get a gardener, eat out every night. Not only will you create jobs for other people, but you'll have more time for the "like to" stuff.
- erossmu, on 07/07/2008, -2/+2"Life's a garden, dig it." If you don't like you current situation in life, change it. It's never too late to fix your mistakes and get on the right path to a lifestyle you could be proud of.
- SolidBones, on 07/07/2008, -0/+2In my head, that phrase should say "life's a ditch"
- Jektal, on 07/07/2008, -2/+1"Sometimes I do what I want to do. The rest of the time I do what I have to." - Paraphrased from 'Gladiator'
Nothing new here, move along... - Ramenhood, on 07/07/2008, -2/+2...? I've made plenty of lists like these but never made a whole Digg story about it..
- mmockett, on 07/07/2008, -2/+2This guy decorated our entire library at university. Some of his stuff is nice, but most of it is a bit too obvious.
- iSwim, on 07/07/2008, -2/+1Shawn Achor who teaches The Science of Happiness at Harvard University taught me the key happiness is finding and doing what you love. We get off track by doing what others expect us to do and allowing ourselves to be distracted my media. Spend some time each day doing something your passionate about (read to your kids, swim, ride a bike), you'll be a happier person for it!
I just finished swimming for a hour and half at lunch, I feel great! - blindeyeseesall, on 07/07/2008, -2/+1That's loser talk.
- mokayogi, on 07/07/2008, -2/+2I don't HAVE to comment.... but I like to.
- dragonrebornn, on 07/07/2008, -1/+0I think there needs to be another column on that list? called "Why did I do that?" and the entire list can be added to that.
- flyingbuddha, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1This isn't art, its stick figures on a wall.
Should be titled 'Sheep' - kraftj, on 07/07/2008, -1/+1Should be "I SHOULD Do" and "I Do" ...
