- AManWithNoName, on 05/25/2008, -1/+3Thanks for the speedy mirror!
- sam4280, on 05/25/2008, -16/+3what does that mean... not a fan of art? What kind of single- minded statement is that?
- Ploppyplop, on 05/25/2008, -0/+12One that you misread.
- scotticus, on 05/25/2008, -1/+3My wife isn't a fan of music... I'm not a fan of poetry. To each his/her own.
- rrbest, on 05/25/2008, -0/+3Not a fan of music? Your wife is kinda ***** up.
- scotticus, on 05/26/2008, -0/+1But she reads more than I do and appreciates other art forms that I don't get. I barely ever read books... I'm sure plenty of people think I'm ***** up.
- banthis, on 05/25/2008, -12/+7Hasn't this been on digg over 20x already? on the frontpage...
- Zera, on 05/25/2008, -0/+6Yes. Digg continues to find a new audience, it appears, even if it is the Sunday Morning audience. I think this art first started floating around the net in 2004 or 2005.
- vexxefx, on 05/25/2008, -6/+1"Because it looks cool", saddening to hear this so often
- rrbest, on 05/25/2008, -0/+1Why?
- rahamm, on 05/25/2008, -5/+3"I am not a fan of art".........what does that mean?
- Dubbsacc, on 05/25/2008, -1/+6Reading comprehension.
"While not particularly a fan of THE art".
The OP is not a fan of this particular art. It doesn't mean they don't like any other forms of art.
- Dubbsacc, on 05/25/2008, -1/+6Reading comprehension.
- Rage67, on 05/25/2008, -0/+1it is really clever, I almost didn't believe it

- TTT1, on 05/25/2008, -3/+52The motorcycle one was surreal.
- idleeyes, on 05/25/2008, -3/+5This is not cool that this website it giving credit where it is not due. The motorcycle piece is by Shigeo Fukuda, called "Lunch with a Helmet On". Fukuda is freaking amazing. These two, Nobel and Webster, are, as Randy would say, "just okay". Plus it takes two of them to do the work Fukuda does better by himself.
- samfishercell, on 05/25/2008, -0/+2Why is this guy getting buried? He's totally right. The last piece is by Shigeo Fukuda, who received no credit on the blog post. Many of his pieces are more impressive and more detailed.

Definitely getting tired of blogs who slap up a post full of pictures and don't cite them :- idleeyes, on 05/26/2008, -0/+1thanks for the back-up

- cvrti5, on 05/25/2008, -0/+3Yeah, I saw the twitter post from Jeff too. But really, wow, cool!
- badassninja, on 05/25/2008, -0/+13Like it matters. I have summited tons of stories that I thought for sure would hit the front page... but there are 10000000 sources for the same thing and clearly some diggers are stronger with the force then others.
- dudeguy1234, on 05/25/2008, -0/+8It's SHOULD HAVE!
- Lambeco, on 05/25/2008, -0/+3It REALLY doesn't matter since this has been posted to Digg at least 2 other times. Maybe 3. And dudeguy1234 is right, in spite of having the lamest handle I've ever seen.
- Alegoo92, on 05/25/2008, -0/+1Can "in spite of" and "despite" be used interchangeably?
Edit: do they have the exact same meaning? - IamKrAzE, on 05/25/2008, -0/+1I was thinking the same thing.. I thought I saved these images when I saw them on digg awhile ago.
Perhaps this is digg's version of going green, you have to recycle.
- Alegoo92, on 05/25/2008, -0/+1Can "in spite of" and "despite" be used interchangeably?
- strobelite33, on 05/25/2008, -2/+63That is really cool. I wonder what the process is like to create those?
- peterjmag, on 05/25/2008, -12/+2Very carefully.
- sarixe, on 05/25/2008, -0/+8The process is like very carefully?
- EmileVictor, on 05/25/2008, -1/+86Take a picture of a model in that pose, or illustrate one, then project it onto that surface with an overhead or data projector.
Carefully suspend random objects so that they lay within the black area of the projection. Remove projector and replace with lamp.- sarixe, on 05/25/2008, -0/+4It would probably easier to do it with a lamp in a different position anyway, so you could work with two different shadows. Otherwise you can't know whether the shadows of the trash completely fill the shadows from the projector.
- Mutton, on 05/25/2008, -1/+4I'm sorry. We were looking for "LSD." What do we have for him, Johnny?

Profit
- Blablah01, on 05/25/2008, -5/+26- Put some trash in a neat bunch
- Hang a white curtain in front of it
- Place a lamp on the other side of the curtain
- Place an object or yourself in between the lamp and the curtain, casting a shadow on the curtain.
Nevertheless, this is pretty cool =)- sarixe, on 05/25/2008, -2/+9I see what you did there...

- hoodratthangs, on 05/25/2008, -1/+1oooh oh! i know! they take a pile of trash and take a chain saw and shape it to a template projected from a light.

- DaviDaviDaviD, on 05/25/2008, -1/+7Mind blowing to say the least...the time..the effort. If your from the UK then this will remind you of the M&S advert from Christmas.

- MooreWV, on 05/25/2008, -1/+10The shadows are all wrong.
- ChileanGoD, on 05/25/2008, -3/+13So, what did we all learned from this?... yeah.. that deep down we're all made out of trash.
...But in all seriousness... It would have been awesome if the type of trash used to cast the shadows depicted the kind of people that produced that same particular type of trash. It would have been equally artistic but with a message.- AgentVladimir, on 05/25/2008, -5/+1"If your from the UK then this will remind you of the M&S advert from Christmas."
They actually used products available from the catalogue to build the ones for these adverts. So perhaps the artistic integrity was lost but the idea was there.- Olivaise, on 05/26/2008, -0/+1I'm sorry, but: FAIL.
- AgentVladimir, on 05/25/2008, -5/+1"If your from the UK then this will remind you of the M&S advert from Christmas."

- jennabunnykins, on 05/25/2008, -0/+3I think you answered your own question then
- prophetpimp, on 05/25/2008, -9/+6Now that truly deserves to be called art rather then the pretentious crap that we see mostly.
- akcom, on 05/25/2008, -14/+16#4 makes me think its fake. Where do you see the cup, the extended leg, or the differentiation between the two heads at the top of the pile? I call shenanigans
- karmaghost, on 05/25/2008, -1/+0I agree. I don't think the purpose of the artist was to deceive, but with no explanation on the page showcasing the art, it's not clear that those probably aren't the real shadows of the "junk."
- KnutTheBear, on 05/25/2008, -0/+3I am not so sure. I think that it is a little deceiving because the angle the picture is taken from is not the angle the light is shining from. Number four makes a lot more sense if you move the light source about 25 degrees to the left of where the picture is taken. That accounts for the differences in cigarette size (the garbage cigarette is much longer than the one in the shadow) and it allows for the cup to be pulled much closer to the 'body' of the garbage, which if you look closely, it is.
- bighinch, on 06/01/2008, -0/+0There just does not appear to be enough shadowing across the floor behind the "artwork", though entirely possible to create, these appear to be back lit from behind the sheet . . .
- yourpalOZ, on 05/25/2008, -7/+3most of what is marketed as art is a farce.

- BedPost, on 05/25/2008, -7/+26I call BS. Look at number 4. In the silhouette, there's a gap between the back of the man's head and the woman's head. In the garbage, there's a blue can, blocking where said gap should be.
I can't be certain, but color me skeptical.- hangglide, on 05/25/2008, -2/+5I agree. The shadow on the second one (peeing) is cast down at the floor. I think it is clear that the wall is really a rear projection screen. Silhouettes are projected from behind and just (kinda) line up with the general outline or the trash from the front.
- beloitpiper, on 05/25/2008, -0/+4Only from the camera's POV, I bet if you looked at it from the light source it would make more sense.
