BMW's fascinating GINA Light Visionary Model design study
37signals.com — "BMW presents GINA, a new take on car design, materials, and flexibility. The GINA replaces the traditional metal/plastic skin with a textile fabric skin that ’s pulled taut around a frame of metal and carbon fiber wires. Even the shape of the car can change. Fascinating and creative design study."

The best thing for me was, in the video when the head lights of the car open like human eye in the video.
My concern is, will it pass the crash test; Is it too flexible for safety? - jdawg, on 06/11/2008, -0/+1dang... thats slick.
- EAMUS1CATULI, on 06/11/2008, -0/+1Very nice! And very expensive.
- equinoxChild, on 06/11/2008, -0/+2... And Mr. Bond, bring this back in one piece, will you?
- Kris2999, on 06/11/2008, -0/+0So...when somebody rips the fabric, do you just duct tape it shut again?
- Orsenfelt, on 06/11/2008, -0/+1That is awesome! I'd love a car like that, Although, Surely it's far more dangerous to crash than a regular car..?
- twilson44, on 06/11/2008, -0/+1Although BMW have commented that it is unlikely the system will make production anytime soon it does offer an interesting glimpse into the possibilities of the BMW Z4 Roadster's replacement in 2010. - Obishawn11, on 06/11/2008, -0/+1Slick looking car. It'd be interesting to drive it to feel how it handles since it theoretically should be much lighter of a car. A couple questions come to mind though. Would the fabric cause more drag or is it tight enough that it wouldn't? How do you wash that car? How flammable is the material? And how cold is that car in the winter (or is that material a fairly good insulator)?
- The_Wallbanger, on 06/11/2008, -0/+1What if it fades in the sun? Or splashes in mud puddles? Or flaps at high speed? etc....
- optimusprime01, on 06/11/2008, -0/+1I hope the next time thing is not "Turbo Tean"
