Tesla Roadster's touch-screen interface watch!
news.cnet.com — You may heard about the the 6,831 lithium-ion batteries that power the all-electric Tesla Roadster. But what about the user interface from inside the driver's seat?
- 725 diggs
- digg it
- ironeus, on 08/01/2008, -3/+19pretty cool stats displayed on the touch interface; though placed in the lower left I assume it's not encouraged to view while driving.
- jmattiza40, on 07/30/2008, -3/+10Now here is a environmental dream car complete with touch and go dash board panels.
- RizzoFrank, on 07/30/2008, -13/+3Why is this ghetto looking British Xzibit reporting to me?
- abdo, on 07/31/2008, -4/+2Haven't heard the word "dodgy" in a long time...
- jwebb23, on 07/31/2008, -3/+29That gives me an environmentally conscious erection.
- radsprack, on 07/31/2008, -6/+2Does that mean it runs on hydrogen or electricity?
- MOJIRA, on 07/31/2008, -3/+2Good for you, but you do realize that the electricity you're getting at your house is probably coming from a gas power plant which uses oil?
I still want one though, I'm pretty sure that electricity at home is cheaper than gas at the pump.- kd1s, on 07/31/2008, -1/+1Yes I realize it but it's a much more efficient process than burning it in an internal combustion engine. Especially when you multiply that over millions of vehicles.
If you ever want a good read, check out "Internal Combustion" by Edwin Black. They had electric cars back at the turn of the 20th century but those were pushed aside for the gasoline engine.
Imagine if development had continued on batteries and electric motors throughout the 20th century instead of dumping all that time and effort into IC engines.

- Modestexcuse, on 07/31/2008, -3/+3I'm assuming that you got wood?
- Mickeh65, on 07/31/2008, -14/+4But does it run Crysis?
- time4evacuation, on 07/31/2008, -2/+3***** you, two of my friends died tried to play Crysis in a Tesla!
- Seidoger, on 07/31/2008, -1/+2Yes! Yes.. yes it does.
- sHockz, on 07/31/2008, -7/+3the warranty better be phenomenal...otherwise good luck finding a tesla mechanic
- DarkShroud, on 07/31/2008, -2/+4You're looking at 100,000 miles or 15 years with these types of electric cars. There is almost no maintenance either.
- knowitman, on 07/31/2008, -2/+4There is always no maintenance. Nothing also works perfectly. You also seem to forget that the suspension will still need to be periodically checked to make that sure that the car is properly aligned.
- jsuther, on 07/31/2008, -2/+2No need, just go to radio shack for some AAs
- ObeseSnake, on 08/01/2008, -0/+1Don't you mean an electrician?
- DarkShroud, on 07/31/2008, -2/+4You're looking at 100,000 miles or 15 years with these types of electric cars. There is almost no maintenance either.
- zosoIV, on 07/31/2008, -21/+3***** you, two of my friends died trying to use the touch screen while driving.
- alight, on 07/31/2008, -2/+5i hope this doesn't become a new digg meme.
- shaggyb, on 07/31/2008, -2/+5too late... but someone should tell everyone that they will get dugg down for it
- alight, on 07/31/2008, -2/+5i hope this doesn't become a new digg meme.
- chaos7, on 07/31/2008, -5/+1hope it's not as useless as my windows slideshow/dell miniview
- chkdg8, on 07/31/2008, -10/+3Harry Potter Xzibit: Sounds cool, so when's the Tesla coming to the UK?
Zoloft Salesman: Uh, deliveries will start in May 2009 and we are taking reservations now for a limited edition for uh 2009 cars and we'll increase that production in 2010.
Sam Jackson from Liverpool: Cool, I'll take three, sign me up.
Depressed Ritalin Chewer: Aha, not on your sorry ass salary. - cens337, on 07/31/2008, -2/+5256 mpg equivalent, 220Miles per charge (at the beginning, we all know how our cellphones do after a year), but 0-60 in 3.9 seconds.... thats impressive. $109,000 plus $55,000 to lock in production slot and timeframe... a bit much, no? Anyone have a couple grand i can ..um.. borrow?
- ripple123, on 07/31/2008, -1/+4Well yeah, but then, how much will you save on fuel and maintainence of a combustion engine over the life of this car.
- tidu, on 07/31/2008, -2/+2a couple grand!? anyone have $164,000 I can borrow?
- blacksteve0, on 07/31/2008, -2/+5I'll get one, if I win the lottery.
- tomtefar, on 07/31/2008, -8/+0You can have a touchscreen in your car too...
magden-auto.com - tripledjr, on 07/31/2008, -13/+2***** you 2 of my friends died from not having their batteries juiced.
(For the future of this comment)
***** you 2 of my friends died from you guys saying this joke is outdated and digging me down. - jugglingjon, on 07/31/2008, -3/+2Those are some pretty small screens. I have a Camry Hybrid, and its touchscreen display is far nicer/larger; I'm surprised as expensive and tech focused as these Teslas are, they didn't install anything nicer.
And yes I know another screen is in the stereo unit, but that one is tiny as well. - time4evacuation, on 07/31/2008, -1/+3I think he could have said "charging", "voltage", and "power" a few more times.
- wheresjim, on 07/31/2008, -5/+1The touchscreen in my 1989 Buick Reatta was way more useful than that (when it worked of course!)
- ij00mini, on 07/31/2008, -5/+12As much as I love this car and this company, they couldn't find a more eloquent and well-spoken representative?
- Seidoger, on 07/31/2008, -2/+1My thoughts exactly, didn't seem at ease much.
- sabroskie, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1He said everything he needed to say and obviously knows what he's talking about. So what if he's a little nervous or something, the facts are the selling point.
- topbob, on 08/01/2008, -0/+1Actually, it sounded like he hardly knew what he was talking about at all...
- Roundbadge, on 07/31/2008, -1/+2That car is so f'ing awesome. Have you all seen videos of it wiping out Dodge Vipers, Ferraris etc.?
- elitegrunt, on 07/31/2008, -2/+1nope
- andreo, on 07/31/2008, -2/+6I just thought about scheduling the charging time. How many times has someone thought they scheduled something like a recording only to find out they screwed up and it didn't record.
Now imagine the next day. Your on your way to work and you have to call in: "um, I have to call off today". "My car didn't charge last night".
I know, the car is more sophisticated then that. But it was funny thought anyway. Oh how I wish I could afford one of these. - howdareyou, on 07/31/2008, -1/+1I'm nursing a semi.
- DyPao23, on 07/31/2008, -1/+3Does it have "LOITER" and "INTIMIDATE" modes?
- viditbhargava, on 07/31/2008, -1/+1cool...i want this baby
- brinewr, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1I SO WANT ONE!!!
- thebudda, on 08/01/2008, -0/+2Sweet ride, dumbass rep.
I really could have stood a little more footage of that smokin' MILF in the background at the beginning. - ObeseSnake, on 08/01/2008, -0/+1Chumby?
