Want a 100 MPG Prius? Just add $10Gs (+ your car). w/video
mpgomatic.com — One day and just over ten grand is all it takes to turn a plain vanilla Toyota Prius into a plug-in hybrid capable of 100 miles per gallon (over 30-40 miles).

- mmilton, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1You'll hit the break even point after driving almost 200,000 miles.... but you'll feel good getting there.
- allaboutdatiki, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1There are other financial variables to consider.
The Prius has not depreciated like a normal car. They maintain an absurd amount of their initial cost.
It's unclear how the added cost of the plug-in conversion kit will work into that equation. If a modded Prius costs $35K now and resells for $35K in three years ... only time will tell.

- mmilton, on 07/31/2008, -0/+2Agreed about the resale value and other variables. I love the fact that my 2005 and 2006 Prius would have a good resale value. And, I'll be one of the first to buy a plug-in when the numbers look right.
I don't mean to be negative. I really want to see more innovation. However, I've read from multiple sources that the lithium batteries may only last 100k miles. So, it could make the break even time period even longer. Need more info to decide.- allaboutdatiki, on 07/31/2008, -0/+1Not to worry, mm! It will be up to the battery manufacturers to hit the mark when it comes to longevity. There's no question that early adopters will take the arrows in the forehead and the initial hit to the wallet. When those 100K miles are up, years will have passed and (with luck, following the lead of other technologies) the price of lithium batteries will have fallen dramatically.
- joshinatorg, on 07/31/2008, -0/+0The average may be 30-40 miles per gallon, but if you drive it right, you easily achieve 50mpg. I can do it in both our 2001 and 2007 Prius.
