We stood by him time and time again as he caused problems, complained, didn't show up to spring training and was a general problem. Then, after totally destroying the team, and playing at a sub-manny level, and pulling himself out of games for money, he had to go, and we had enough. I still respect him, but this past season could have been so much more if he had only played like he could have.

As a Sox fan, it's pretty frustrating to see some of his actions over the past 7-8 years, but it's just as frustrating to see the organization as a whole try to demean him as much as they can when they know damn well that things over the past 7 years would be entirely different without him.

Sure he busted the Saves record, but upon further inspection his mound skills are deteriorating. He's throwing the ball slower, he's missing more of the plate and it's not even generating him more swinging strikes to help offset all the free bases he's passing out that he didn't before.
That's not what long term blockbusters are supposed to be made out of, and he'll probably be getting upwards of $13 million a year by a team that doesn't know any better.

- kamau84, on 11/17/2008, -1/+1I don't want to defend Manny and his attitude problems but it is wholly unprofessional for a club to put this kind of story out there right when a player they no longer employ is trying to sign with another team. If they said this behind closed doors with other owners rather than to the press, this could almost be called collusion. Who is the bigger scumbag now?
