B-ball player bigger than Shaq and can dunk without jumping watch!

- rootnik, on 01/22/2008, -3/+263He plays for UNC-Asheville, and is the slowest basketball player I have ever seen. He tires easily, so he only plays about 3 minutes at a time. The offense has to wait on him every trip down the court. He plays around 20 minutes a game, and can usually get a double/double (10+ points and rebounds) in that limited amount of time. Because of his size, he gets allot of fouls called on him.
He is a surprisingly good passer, though I am not sure why he would bother passing the ball.- Dotcommer, on 01/22/2008, -7/+34Damn man. I'm short. I'm 5'9".... i'd really like to get a piggy back ride from this guy. I'd even pay him. *sigh*

- flogistan, on 01/22/2008, -21/+7Yeah, I mean, this guy has a serious physical problem. There's hardly anything cool about this other than a freak aspect. I feel sorry for this guy. He's a pituitary case of some kind and it's going to destroy his life and kill him eventually where as shaq and yao are just cool.
- blackinthmiddle, on 01/22/2008, -2/+5Shaq is just a freak in the sense that no one in his family is abnormally tall. I believe his biological father is 6'2" and his mom is average height. Yao, on the other hand, had very tall parents to begin with. His dad is 6'7" and his mom is 6'4". Maybe you'd expect 6'8"-7'0" out of that and not the 7'6" that he is, but his height is more understandable and is not related to any pituitary issues.
- flogistan, on 01/22/2008, -3/+3Right, neither of them have that problem, they are just natural wonders and are not sick in any way. That's why it's just cool. Being sick and unusual because of it is not nearly that cool.

- bingobongony, on 01/22/2008, -14/+7I hated getting fouls called on me when I played. I can't IMAGINE getting an allot called on me.
- jrspartan53, on 01/22/2008, -2/+5he's from chicago originally, and a friend of mine played him in an AAU game. He said he used to be in even worse shape, so it was pretty much like playing 5 on 4 whenever you went on offense. Obviously its tough to stop someone who can dunk without leaving his feet, but its a real disadvantage to your team if you're shorthanded every defensive possesion
- fr4ncium, on 01/22/2008, -2/+6I imagine he tires so quickly because of his height, what with circulation and all. Reminds me of Ender's Shadow.

- Bornhuetter, on 01/22/2008, -3/+7If that were true, then the blacks descended from slaves would be much stronger/taller than the ones that didn't. There are a lot of tall africans that have never had slavery in the family.

- Spikeli27, on 01/22/2008, -18/+3DAAAAAMMMM, i think they should have a height limit in the NBA rulebook now. this guy will ruin the game
- anarchyinthekr, on 01/22/2008, -0/+14he's not in good enough shape, skilled enough, fast enough, and he gets injured a lot...but he is huge so he's got more than a shot at being a pro
- whorunbartertwn, on 01/22/2008, -0/+5How will he ruin the game? The NBA has had several players 7'5 or taller (Bradley, Bol, Ming) and none have dominated the game. Yao Ming is the only solid player among them since he's polished offensively.
It comes down to a tradeoff with height bringing no wind, no touch, or plodding slowness. The most dominant interior players have been in the 6-11 to 7-1 range, guys who can be big and strong but still get up and down the court.- blackinthmiddle, on 01/22/2008, -0/+0Chuck Nevitt and Gheorge Muresan are two others. There's also that guy from China (can't remember his name) who's 7'8" but China I believe is placing restrictions on him so that he can't play for the NBA.
- whorunbartertwn, on 01/22/2008, -0/+0Man good call I forgot about Nevitt. He and Andre the Muresan were both sideshow quality, but I remember everyone screaming for Chuck at Pistons games.

- outsid3rNo17, on 01/22/2008, -0/+2There is a height limit in the NBA. Its about 6'1". Less than that you'll have a very hard time getting in.
Jokes aside though, your comment is not valid. Physical preparation has and is still changing a lot. Not the average in the NBA is 6'8". Eventually that will be the limit as nutrition, medical discoveries and just evolution (I bet kenny george will leave behind a handful of children) will push height further and further.
As a comparison, modern chess players would destroy old prodigies like Morphy or Capablanca.
- Graemebru, on 01/22/2008, -1/+124Now only if he was coordinated.. o_0
- pelman, on 01/22/2008, -1/+15Yea he couldn't even make his first shot even though the hoop was in his face.
- blackinthmiddle, on 01/22/2008, -1/+5Coordination is one of many problems. His knees are already shot and he hasn't even made the pros yet. This is one of the reasons why he's so dog slow. Think Shaq is big going between 325-350? This dude's 380! One reason he's so slow. Slow as in there was one recent game that he was standing guarding the rim. A player saw him there, ran in for a dunk and still was able to get it over him, his arms moved about a half second after the dunk was already through!
- crawf061, on 01/22/2008, -1/+13That wasn't just "a player". That was Tyler Hansborough, arguably the best player in college basketball right now.
- Aroundtheworls, on 01/22/2008, -0/+1Huge size doesn't always mean one is slow or not athletic. There's a Korean 7'2" 355lb mixed martial arts fighter out there who is doing surprisingly well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDfONcCggME&feature ...

- xtc46, on 01/22/2008, -0/+2I doubt he gets into the NBA. He is too slow, clumsy, and would be a huge contract and insurance liability. one hit to the knee and he is done, most NBA teams would rather spend the money on a 6'5" guy who can run and play more than 5 minutes.

- blackinthmiddle, on 01/22/2008, -0/+3Unfortunately even worse. Manute Bol, incredibly, only weighed 200 lbs at 7'7". This guy, from the little I've seen and read of him, is 380 lbs!!! Shaq was a combo of huge size, speed and strength but now his size is his own worst enemy, as he continues to beat on his joints with every jump and step. However, he's had a hall of fame career before this has happened to him. My guess is that Kenny George's career will be even worse than Manute Bol's and he might not last more than three years, assuming he goes pro.
- ronaldinho, on 01/22/2008, -0/+1From the looks of it, he won't go pro. Too slow. The fact that Bol weighs only 200 pounds though is somewhat shocking. That's a walking stick man, but he was incredibly good at rejecting shots in his heyday

- rhythmchanges, on 01/22/2008, -7/+2Yeah... Mutumbo was a few inches smaller and although he was an okay player... her never won a championship... (let's not even bring up Shawn Bradley.) It takes more that tall laddies. Even really tall.

- Liquidboarder, on 01/22/2008, -10/+44THATS A HUGE BITCH !
- LedDirigible, on 01/22/2008, -3/+7Yeah, he's huge, but not that good. Saw him play against UNC-CH last year and then against Campbell this year. Last year he was even worse than he is this year... all of the Carolina fans cheered for him when he made a move on Tyler Hansbrough... I think they felt bad for him...
And even though I said that he is not that good, I think he got a triple double against us (Campbell) earlier this year with 20 points, 12 boards and 10 rejections. it hurt to watch that... - shinb0, on 01/22/2008, -5/+41But he still gets dunked on pretty bad.... http://youtube.com/watch?v=htwkRYa0gOk
- stealth658, on 01/22/2008, -1/+18but he traveled.
- dan222555, on 01/22/2008, -0/+5I could have jammed after a huge walk like that.
- alucinante, on 01/22/2008, -0/+8he changed pivot feet, then he took three steps.. whoa.. two travels and a no call.. not very impressed by the dunk after seeing that.
- phenolholic, on 01/22/2008, -0/+1in addition to the travel, any bit of contact by a big guy like that and there's a foul being called. big guys like that get away with very few fouls
- Jerryskid02, on 01/22/2008, -0/+2By a white guy no less!!! I was still under the impression that we couldn't jump??
- outsid3rNo17, on 01/22/2008, -0/+1So it happened once. I don't know why people make such a big deal and post that video anytime something good about the giant gets posted.

- NitrousFlare, on 01/22/2008, -0/+6Basketball sure takes a lot of talent these days.
- bowe, on 01/22/2008, -0/+32Shaq is tall, but Yao is the tallest player in the NBA atm. He was preceded by Gheorge Muresan(starred in the Billy Crystal movie, my giant and a great snickers commercial), and Shawn Bradley as super tall guys to play in the NBA. Yao is the best out of those 3. Kenny George(the guy in the vid) is 2 inches taller than Yao, but because of physical issues, I doubt he'll have a very successful career even though he is a decent FT shooter. It is thought that he might have a benign tumor causing his body to produce excess growth hormone, because even at his age he is still growing. The world's tallest man suffered from this very same condition and it led to his eventual death.

nonetheless, kenny george is slow as hell, but i dont really blame him. - jsowder18, on 01/22/2008, -0/+1Bol was 7'7 as well, Bradley was 7'6, Muresan was 7'7... I believe the Pistons drafted the tallest player ever though, I think it was early nineties maybe and he was 7'8 or 7'9 but I don't know if he ever played or did anything. Yao and Ralph Sampson and are the only two really successful guys 7'4 and over... and of course the Dunkin Dutchman Rik Smits.. I guess you could throw Sam Bowie in there at 7'3 but since he was drafted in front of Jordan I give him no credit..
- 07sheikh, on 01/22/2008, -0/+0Yao is now the offically the best center in the NBA at the moment averaging 12 and 30 points per game. He's winning games with out t-mac's help. Furthermore, he is getting tougher...Did you know he swears the most when he gets mad during a game? Watch the clip and listen to him talk...http://ultimatebasketball.blogspot.com/2008/01/yao ...
- Nightfly420, on 01/22/2008, -9/+3Our backwards society will pay this guy millions for his 'talent', but a scientist? Not so much.
- bxblox, on 01/22/2008, -0/+6doesnt seem backwards at all.. you get paid in relation to how much money you bring in. Player sells out tickets, shoes, clothes, drinks, but a scientist? Not so much.
- Buckeye70, on 01/22/2008, -0/+4When the scientist can sell out an arena he will get millions too. Is the Free market that hard to understand?
- earthquakefish, on 01/22/2008, -0/+0Don't think he is unaware of the free market economics, otherwise known as capitalism (free market proponents call it free market economics, because capitalism has a bad connotation attached to it). I think he is making reference to what we prioritize in society and how screwed up it has become.
I agree with this thought completely, yes, in a free market society to strip away the free market would be an economic disaster but try conceptualizing if the free market never came into existence. Truly, it's a hard thought to try and comprehend but one must wonder would we have homeless people living on the street and at the opposite end of the spectrum would we have billionaires? In a idealistic perspective, it could result in a much more equitable society.
Now, note I said idealistic and the reality could and would likely vary, but truly how good is the free market when the last time I read in Canada 1/4 of children are living in poverty. - s0nicfreak, on 01/22/2008, -0/+1If scientists would actually do public "performances," I for one would pay to see it...

- blackinthmiddle, on 01/22/2008, -0/+1I don't know if I'd call it backwards. You get money mainly on two variables. One, can someone make money off of what you do and how much? Two, how difficult is it to do what you do? It's the reason why someone can make millions because they can make a baseball do funny things but a teacher makes a middle class salary. There are a lot of ways to measure talent. You may want to snivel at someone being tall, but everything that everyone has is a gift. Do you really think that Oluchi Onwegba or Gisele work to be beautiful? We respect very smart people moreso than we do the beautiful or the physically talented, but a mentally handicapped person will never be able to match wits with a genius, just as your average 6'0" person (my height) will never have the *talent* of being 7'8".
Are you finding the cure for cancer? No? So then I guarantee that what you're doing is not all that important! Stop belittling others talents and cultivate yours. And stop thinking you're so important that you can make fun of what others do. - fandyboy, on 01/22/2008, -0/+1Supply and Demand, do you speak it?

- hendrixs, on 01/22/2008, -0/+3I have actually had a chance to watch George play against ETSU at UNCA. He has definitely improved since last year. As I recall, he is a sophomore at UNCA. He's a good player for them, but a bit slow getting up and down the court (I don't believe he started the game). It was very hard for us (ETSU) to guard him, however, we were able to eventually figure out an answer for him. If he had some more agility, he would be playing for UNC Chapel Hill.
- blackinthmiddle, on 01/22/2008, -0/+0If I had any say regarding his strength and conditioning program, my first goal would be for him to drop 80 lbs right off the bat. Last I checked, he was 380 lbs! That weight will absolutely destroy his knees in a few years. Great that you can muscle your way in for a dunk. But he simply can't move out there. It's like he's stuck in cement. At 300 lbs, he'll still be more than big enough to get his position and nobody's blocking his shot at his height, at least not consistently anyway.
