Biggest Playoff Comeback in NBA History
lakermad.blogspot.com — I really can't believe I am saying this, but the Celtics really deserve some credit pulling off the biggest comeback in NBA Finals history. It just had to be against the Lakers didn't it?

- sogeshirts, on 06/14/2008, -13/+21Ugh one of the worst games I've ever seen but the Celtics did deserve it. They played harder and better.
- 21Chucks, on 06/14/2008, -1/+2Each team had a ***** half, Celtics just had better timing. But why are we linking to this guy's stupid blog and not the NBA website or some real sports news source?
- louiebaur, on 06/14/2008, -15/+6I don't even want to leave a comment on that game I am still depressed
- themaestro18, on 06/14/2008, -14/+2Damn Celtics! I guess they'll win, even without his fella. http://www.bestsnippets.com/post/37644727/forget-a ...
- cadmiumpaint, on 06/14/2008, -16/+69Greatest Finals game in NBA history. I'm glad it was the Celtics who embarrassed the L.A. Kobe's on their court. It doesn't get any better.
Before this game i'd see dozens of Laker flags on cars every day driving around LA. on Friday, the day after...didn't see ONE flag on my daily commute. Talk about fairweather fans who just got their backs broken.
GO CELTICS...number 17 is close!- digsuxx, on 06/14/2008, -16/+2FU
- johnwestern, on 06/14/2008, -11/+0My car's got a flag. beantown more like meantown.
- lbdinh, on 06/14/2008, -14/+2Screw you I support local teams so Go Lakers!!! Why the hell would I support Boston when I live in Cali.
- Sroek, on 06/14/2008, -2/+8Car flags are for poser fans.
- dangerdooms, on 06/14/2008, -0/+2Tell that to my dad who keeps his montreal flag on year 'round !
- haydesigner, on 06/14/2008, -2/+1I hope you mean Expos flag, 'cause if you mean just a plain old Montreal flag, then that is worse than all the idiots who ride around with Mexican flags on Cinco de Mayo.
- dangerdooms, on 06/14/2008, -0/+2Montreal Canadiens **
- haydesigner, on 06/14/2008, -0/+1Ah, my bad. Sorry.
- dangerdooms, on 06/14/2008, -0/+2Tell that to my dad who keeps his montreal flag on year 'round !
- tjmb9, on 06/14/2008, -3/+13Like it's really news that Boston has better fans than anywhere. Thats why the red sox also made a historic comeback when it counted. Heart, son.
- kevinwiz, on 06/14/2008, -3/+4i left my car flag up. it ain't over til it's over.
- CalmYourself, on 06/18/2008, -0/+0It's over. :P
Apologies for rubbing it in though, no harm intended.
- CalmYourself, on 06/18/2008, -0/+0It's over. :P
- skippy562, on 06/14/2008, -1/+2i saw a couple of cars with the flags still there...but every time i saw it i just thought to myself, "man he must be in a bad mood."
- ScottMitchell, on 06/14/2008, -1/+4Game 4 was hardly the greatest Finals game in history. Maybe the greatest in the last 10 years, but how can you trump Game 6 of the 1998 NBA Finals, or Game 5 of the 1997 Finals? Not to mention Game 6 and Game 7 of the 1988 Finals and Game 6 of the 1980 Finals. And I'm sure there were some better games prior to the 1980s, but my knowledge of Finals history doesn't go that far back.
- moush, on 06/15/2008, -0/+3Greatest finals game in history? How old are you?
- idbjoshm, on 06/14/2008, -2/+27It was a game where even the most loyal of laker fans are pissed the ***** off.
- Ribsbroken, on 06/14/2008, -8/+1With all the hype going around about the NBA fixing games this has to be one of them. NBA is all about gambling. I believe the players, coaches, refs, and officials are all in it. Some teams benefit from it others have to swallow their pride and say "Hey at least I am a millionaire."Before the finals even started everyone picked LA to win. Before the Super Bowl the Pats were expected to win. Before the Belmont Big Brown was suppose to win. 2 have lost so far and the HOUSE made a killing off of it.
- ElAmo, on 06/14/2008, -0/+3Everyone I talked to thought the celtics would win...
- alvinhokid, on 06/14/2008, -0/+3get over yourself there Ribsbroken...
- Ribsbroken, on 06/14/2008, -4/+0Get over what? That there might be some truth! WTF do you think! My family use to own a Basketball team and I know how our team use to shave points in games. So why can't I question the integrity of the NBA and every other organization that makes million and billions of dollars to entertain. Get over yourself HO KID!
- haydesigner, on 06/14/2008, -0/+4@ Ribsbroken: "My family use to own a Basketball team"
Riiiiiight. Like that's remotely believable.
And if you want a snowball's chance of convincing us, you better give up the name of the team, and your family's name too.
Otherwise, smoke, meet ass. - Ribsbroken, on 06/15/2008, -1/+0Dude don't hate, my family use to owned of a basketball team in the Philippines. Its like owning a S class Mercedes Benz in the USA for what its worth. You don't have to be an ass just because my family use to own a basketball team. There are people in this world that can own a basketball team and not be as rich as Mark Cuban. I was still a kid then but through out my life my family always mention how their team use to skim points. It was a ***** team in a third world country but if it happens to a small franchise team in a small country think about it on a bigger scale where there is more money to be had. All I am saying is I don't believe the sports world is legit. Plus there has been many incidences of sports scandals throughout history. Just search it on google and there is a ton load.
- stevealford, on 06/14/2008, -0/+0The house makes a killing no matter who wins, you moron. There's no need to shave points or fix games if the house lays proper odds. Gamblers might need to fix games, but not the house. Learn how gambling works or refrain from commenting on it, please.

- Tony6785, on 06/14/2008, -18/+3How much credit can they really be given when there are still open allegations of referees rigging the series?
- pauleric, on 06/14/2008, -3/+1You're probably getting dugg down because it's so implausible. Nobody cheats when so much money is involved.
- Ryan166, on 06/14/2008, -18/+7Stern had a great script for that game!
- Rossoneri22, on 06/14/2008, -19/+11I think Pierce needs to pretend to get injured a few more times.
- Ryan166, on 06/14/2008, -10/+3haha, flashing gang signs one playoff series, and crying in a wheelchair the next.
- ceruti, on 06/14/2008, -7/+4you gotta give him credit, it was good timing and his fake return from his fake injury boosted the team and crowd.
- rawheadrex, on 06/14/2008, -0/+3Riiiiiiiight. They would actually take the central player of the team for what could be crucial several minutes, just so that they could choreograph a crowd rallying "return" scene, that may or may not work. I think this accusation is one of the stupidest things I've heard in pro sports of recent.
- cadmiumpaint, on 06/14/2008, -0/+4maybe Kobe should keep pretending to be an MVP....walking off the court as your team is finishing the game. Classless a -hole.
- BluesFan, on 06/14/2008, -12/+32Go Celtics!!!
- pacificislandr4, on 06/14/2008, -4/+1Go Bandwagons!
- BluesFan, on 06/14/2008, -0/+1Go Sore losers!!
- JD52, on 06/14/2008, -8/+27Well I think when this is over the Lakers will have learned a valuable lesson..... You need a team to win a championship. One Superstar isn't going to get it done.
- lbdinh, on 06/14/2008, -5/+4He can if he scores 81 points again.
- kevinwiz, on 06/14/2008, -2/+13clearly you haven't watched the lakers this season until this series. this has been one of the best teams offensively in terms of ball movement, assists, scoring, etc. this is not a one man team anymore.
- rishid, on 06/14/2008, -0/+3I agree the Lakers have been amazing during the regular season offensively.... but versus a great defense like the Celtics have they have been flustered during the regular season and the post.
- kevinwiz, on 06/14/2008, -0/+2i'm not denying the greatness of the celtics' defense. but the spurs and jazz supposedly had great defenses too. look what the lakers did to them.
- kevinwiz, on 06/14/2008, -0/+2i'm not denying the greatness of the celtics' defense. but the spurs and jazz supposedly had great defenses too. look what the lakers did to them.

- pacificislandr4, on 06/14/2008, -0/+2The Lakers made it past, perhaps, the most difficult conference in league history. To put it in perspective, Golden State missed the playoffs in the west, but if they were in the east, they would've been like the 4th or 5th seed. Obviously a single superstar couldn't have pulled it off, they are a team, and a great one at that.
...Or the whole thing is fixed. I'm not sure.
- pudgyv, on 06/14/2008, -4/+17And half of Boston was whining the next day about having gone to bed a halftime! Not me.
- atlquaker, on 06/14/2008, -6/+62An NBA championship in Boston is like sex with Kobe Bryant. You can kick and scream all you want, but it, uh... it's gonna happen. -PG

- RikkiTikki, on 06/14/2008, -2/+8The Celtics have won more than a few titles. 16 actually.

- kyle415, on 06/14/2008, -2/+6LA Fans are just at the game for social status. A least Boston fans actually love the game.
- Kevmo68, on 06/14/2008, -2/+3a few?
Red Sox - 7 World Series Titles, 12 AL Pennants - 2 in the last 5 years
Patriots - 3 SB wins One SB Los in the last 5 years
Celtics - about to win the title. the 17th
Bruins, nothing recently but still hold a Pro Sports record Most consecutive playoff appearances 29 (1968-96)

lol at the poll in the lower left that says lakers will take it in game 6- theotheragentm, on 06/14/2008, -2/+1So you're saying there's a chance...
- theCreator79, on 06/14/2008, -12/+0Way to BUY your way to the championship Celtics. They added 2 franchise players to their team and still barely made it to the Finals. Just wait for home-grown Bynum to be back next year... muuuhahahaha...
- Kevmo68, on 06/14/2008, -0/+6*ehhemm* "Buy your way..."?
*cough* Pau Gasol *cough* - aschepis, on 06/14/2008, -0/+5your comment makes no sense. Personally, i'd be really angry with team management if they didn't put together the best team they possibly could in whatever way they could. There is no shame in the Celtics signing Ray Allen and K.G. It was a good business move, arguably the first one that Ainge had made in his tenure.
- parallax7d, on 06/14/2008, -1/+5Yeah, that's how the NBA works, you put together the best team of players you possibly can. OMG the Celtics put together a team of good players!
- cnoteakacash, on 06/14/2008, -0/+7To bad its the Celtics bench that has really been destroying the Lakers. Leon Powe going for 21 in 15 min and Posey's 18 points including 4-8 from three and of course PJ. Those players come cheap and have been the difference in the series the only game the Lakers won their bench (or just Vujacic) outscored the celtics bench. Yeah its the Celtics fault they got a team of unselfish players who can play together unlike a certain team in LA, look at rondo in game 2: 4 points but 16 assists and only 2 turnovers, the better TEAM is going to win this series.
- josereyes0, on 06/14/2008, -0/+1They did develop the talent in order to acquire the good players...
- Kevmo68, on 06/14/2008, -0/+6*ehhemm* "Buy your way..."?

And that's one lame ass blog btw... - Xandah, on 06/14/2008, -6/+9The Lakers are truly the Yankees of basketball. It's impossible not to cheer when they get their comeuppance.
- theotheragentm, on 06/14/2008, -5/+1Dallas Mavericks are the Yankees of basketball. They both buy their teams. People hate the Lakers because they're in Los Angeles, not for any real reason related to the team.
- ronaldhennessy, on 06/14/2008, -0/+4The Dallas Mavericks don't have 26 World Championships dude.
- moush, on 06/15/2008, -0/+1The Mav's don't buy players any more than the rest of the league. How would you explain the great lineup the Celtics have? The Bull's were the basketball counterpart until recent years.
- ricepicker4000, on 06/14/2008, -4/+11I like Kobes reaction after the game, he was all like "ima have some beer, wine, maybe a few shots. Like 20 of em"

- tombombman, on 06/14/2008, -9/+2Being a spurs fan, i feel justice has been served.. The spurs didn't lose that series to the lakers, they lost to the refs. I asked a laker fan if fisher fouled barry, he said no... LOL i blocked him off aim. I unblocked him for the celtic series and I commented during game 4 after the 3rd quarter and he blocked me... hahah...The grass is greener in boston, time to find a new team to root for faker fans.
- blorbie, on 06/14/2008, -2/+0Refer to the blown "ball didn't hit rim" call seconds earlier that would have given Lakers a new shot clock, forcing the Spurs to foul. 4 point game then.
- tombombman, on 06/14/2008, -0/+2That call was more questionable then the obvious landing on barrys shoulder call. I didn't see the league say anything about them blowing that missed rim call, all they said was fisher fouled barry. Try to watch NBA games as a fan not from your bandwagon...

- FOcast, on 06/14/2008, -3/+3I'm sorry, but that is one of the ugliest websites I've ever seen. Maybe noscript is messing up the formatting for me, but there's no way I'm disabling that when it tells me it's blocking sixteen scripts from that site.
Not to mention the poor grammar and ten million external links on the site... - Papajohn56, on 06/14/2008, -9/+2people watch the nba?
- LoganVH, on 06/14/2008, -4/+25I just want Kevin Garnett to finally get the ring he deserves.
- zioxide, on 06/14/2008, -2/+18And Paul Pierce. And Ray Allen.
- theotheragentm, on 06/14/2008, -4/+6Just not Doc Rivers. How does he go from being one of the worst coaches in the league to people trying to compare him to Phil Jackson. You have to be ***** kidding me.
- jounin9988, on 06/14/2008, -7/+1I think that overall this has shown us that right now the Celtics are a better team. But the biggest problem with the lakers is that their missing their 7 foot dominating center. I'm not trying to make excuses, I'm just saying enjoy this while it lasts Boston fans, because when Bynum comes back, they lakers will dominate the NBA.
- tombombman, on 06/14/2008, -0/+1Bynum is and always will be soft.
- masterm1nd, on 06/14/2008, -10/+1Well, now it really looks like the NBA is rigged. Especially when you factor in KG. They wanted KG to get one pretty bad.
- arial, on 06/14/2008, -1/+3LA missing 20 of 26 FGs at one point has nothing to do with the NBA rigging the series idiot.

also: annoying font. - elevatedystopia, on 06/14/2008, -3/+3It's over. You readit, no team has ever come back from a 3-1 defecit...
- rawheadrex, on 06/14/2008, -1/+15I'm a Celtics fan.
However, it's ***** to rely on a statistic like "no team has ever come back from a 3-1 deficit".
I mean, of ALL people, us Bostonians (and fellow New Englanders) should know that. What did they after the Sox lost 3 in a row in the AL finals in 2004 against the Yankees? What about just last year when the Sox were down 1-3 against the Indians?
Finally, what about this VERY GAME?? What did "statistics" tell you about a team in the NBA finals that was down by 21 after the 1st Q? Yup, that "no team has EVER come back with a more than 20 point deficit after the 1st quarter in the NBA finals." And what happened?
Statistics can only tell you what has or has not happened in the past, and it has really not much to do with what will happen. Yes, the odds are very low that the Lakers will make a come-back; but it's a definite possibility and we (and especially the Celtics team) should be well aware of that.
With that *****' said.... GO CELTICS! BEAT L.A.!- ScottMitchell, on 06/14/2008, -0/+1There is absolutely no way LA will win this series unless in Game 5 Pierce, Ray Allen, and Kevin Garnett all get injured on the opening tipoff. The thing about seven games series is the better team is virtually guaranteed to win. The Celtics have been outplaying LA in every single game this entire series, ridiculously so in Game 2 and the second half of Game 4. I'd like to see LA, I really would, but I think I have a better chance of winning the lottery.
- maci01, on 06/14/2008, -1/+1And lets not forget the New England Patriots.
- Zuzubar, on 06/15/2008, -0/+1Teams in the NBA are 8-166 when being down 3-1. It's HIGHLY unlikely the Lakers would be able to do that against an obviously superior team. The Red Sox are an exception to this rule!
- batfan, on 06/14/2008, -6/+9All the Jordan comparisons can finally stop now.
Jordan would never have let a 24 point lead
at home get away from him in the Finals.
No ring for Kobe the adulterer. Everyone
knows the 3 he has belong to Shaq!!
Gasol = weak and scared
Odom = no backbone
Vujacic = Ray Allen's BITCH- moush, on 06/15/2008, -0/+1Jordan had decent teammates.
- tayf, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1Maybe his last 3 championships, but his first 3?
Jordan can win the game on his own he's proven that.
- ronaldhennessy, on 06/14/2008, -6/+2NBA fans, look forward to the Boston bandwagon. In MLB, the so-called Red Sox "Nation" is the cancer that is killing baseball. It will be the same for the NBA as well.
- BMANZZS, on 06/14/2008, -0/+4Whoa whoa whoa... The Celtics haven't won yet!
- Depthfunction, on 06/14/2008, -4/+4The Lakers suck, Kobe sucks, and Los Angeles--generally speaking--sucks.
I'll be happy to see Garnett get a ring. He's definitely paid his dues in the league. He deserves it. - shogged, on 06/14/2008, -0/+7lol, this was the best source for this piece of news? A blog that looks like its straight outta 1999?
- truebeliever83, on 06/14/2008, -0/+5Horrible Blog! Unworthy of the font page!
- hexobolic, on 06/14/2008, -0/+1I agree horrible typography and poor image placement. Very scattered.
- aarku, on 06/14/2008, -0/+2The only tragedy in this series is how ABC (and the other networks, to be fair) has been hyping up Bryant. They sit there and talk for minutes on end on how he's "Better than Jordan." They just want money. Another Jordan is worth a lot to the NBA. At one point they compared MVPs and Rings and PPG between the two. It's a laughable difference that they tried to minimized. The big thing they never seem to remember to mention is that 2000-2002 Lakers had this unknown guy named Shaq who just happened to be in his prime. The game is a lot more watchable when you mute the TV and turn on the radio commentators. The TV ones really suck. I want Kevin Harlan.
- jorgenmz, on 06/14/2008, -1/+3I saw only the last quarter, but I found it really stupid that Lakers didn't give that foul in the last ~40 sec.
- pileofstraw, on 06/14/2008, -0/+1When you're a hockey fan, you just can't understand why this is *interesting* and *unbelievable*.
-Hey we won 101 to 99. That was an amazing game!
-Hmm no, wtf is wrong with your defense? - pennvneff, on 06/14/2008, -2/+3The biggest CHOKE in NBA history.
- cadmiumpaint, on 06/15/2008, -1/+1 It was the Boston defense that completely shut down the Lakers. Pierce's D made Kobe irrelevant. And Boston's offense hit key shots that brought them back.
Choke implies that Boston did nothing to affect the outcome which is just not the case.
- cadmiumpaint, on 06/15/2008, -1/+1 It was the Boston defense that completely shut down the Lakers. Pierce's D made Kobe irrelevant. And Boston's offense hit key shots that brought them back.
- therocksays, on 06/14/2008, -4/+0Biggest comeback? The first 3 games were rigged. The NBA is the cesspool of American pro-sports. It's a ***** disgrace.
- FikusErectus, on 06/15/2008, -1/+4I love it!! Watching all those Hollywood stars have that dejected look on their faces after the Celtics come back from a 24 point deficit. Go Celtics!! Win it in L.A. so I can watch all those overpaid and under worked Hollywood stars cry like little babies.
- posure, on 06/15/2008, -0/+1I'm not saying it isn't a big deal coming back from 20 points behind, but they had the majority of the game left (2.5+ quarters) to do it so I wouldn't really call it the "biggest playoff comeback in NBA history." That said, I hope Boston wins because I want Ray Allen to have a championship (come back to Milwaukee, its not our fault that George Karl is a douchebag).
- InsaneAZN22, on 06/16/2008, -0/+0Omfg i was soo nervous this whole game! i thought the lakers might lose but i was praying they'd win this one xD... AND THEY DID!!!
LAKER FTW i dont give a s*ht what other ppl says, go lakers!!!!!!!!!! - djm19, on 06/17/2008, -0/+0The odd thing is, Lakers were two points away from overcoming a 24 point deficit in game two earlier in the series. And they managed to do that in only the last 8 minutes of the 4th quarter (wheres as celtics did it in 36 minutes, and while 24 is the most overcome in the finals, 36 minutes is also the most time alloted to overcome, because the 24 point deficit was a record for a first quarter.)
Just sayin ;) Lakers were close to embarrassing Boston a lot more.- kyle415, on 06/18/2008, -0/+1131-92
