Seattle SuperSonics moving to Oklahoma
okcbusiness.com — The City of Seattle and the Oklahoma City-based owners of the Seattle SuperSonics National Basketball Association franchise announced today they have reached a settlement that will allow the team to break their Key Arena lease and play their games in Oklahoma in November...

Oh right, The Oklahoma City Bombers- onetimer, on 07/03/2008, -10/+41Congratulations sir. You have found a level of tastelessness that gets your comment noticed and dugg, but not so much that it disgusts and gets buried.
Did I speak too soon?- DevilInPgh, on 07/03/2008, -6/+2OMG, I wasn't even thinking about Timothy McVeigh until you said that. I was thinking Bombers as in B-2's, which would fit perfectly for a culture such as that of OK, which is known to shout, "Yeah, Rumsfeld!" (think Family Guy for the reference on that last one)
- Ottergoose, on 07/03/2008, -2/+5The Blue Flames is what I've heard. The owner's in natural gas...
- ngmcs8203, on 07/03/2008, -1/+4That would take the crown of "***** pro team name" away from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim... that's for sure.
- NachoBusiness, on 07/03/2008, -2/+3Oklahoma Flamers?
- CACuzcatlan, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1I played on a youth soccer team called the Blue Flames when I was in elementary school
- eastwood24, on 07/03/2008, -2/+6even though i lost an aunt in the okc bombing, i found it a little funny...so no, not too soon
- elizabethb221, on 07/03/2008, -4/+2I dugg you down. I mean, props to you...it was very clever, but I live way too close to the bombing site to find it actually funny.
- menos, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3Wont work... One of the local high schools is the Bombers...
The name way pre-dates 4/95 but still..........
- onetimer, on 07/03/2008, -10/+41Congratulations sir. You have found a level of tastelessness that gets your comment noticed and dugg, but not so much that it disgusts and gets buried.
- UltramegaOK, on 07/03/2008, -6/+64David Stern bent Seattle over, and Clay Bennett gave it to them with Stern watching. An absolute tragedy for NBA fans in the Pacific Northwest. A terrible precedent has been set. If you have enough money and you suck up to David Stern, you can steal whatever team you want and hold fans of a storied franchise hostage.
You lied Clay. That was our team.- acid0426, on 07/03/2008, -11/+6And it was your ***** arena. The NBA themselves demand a $300M renovation Key Arena to fit the standards of what an NBA arena requires. Your city wouldn't build a new arena, and they wouldn't approve the money for renovations. What else was Bennett to do? The team was losing $20M/yr playing in Key Arena.
- SanTe, on 07/03/2008, -3/+8"The team was losing $20M/yr playing horrible basketball."
There, I fixed that for you. - Dr00pieS, on 07/03/2008, -3/+9Wrong, the cities of Bellevue and Renton were more than happy to build an arena for the Sonics. Trust me, there is plenty of money in these two cities. Clay Bennet can suck a fart out of my ass for all I care.
David Stern is a ***** *****. - acid0426, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1SanTe, then wouldn't that be better reason for them to leave?
- SanTe, on 07/03/2008, -3/+8"The team was losing $20M/yr playing horrible basketball."
- dbarefoot, on 07/03/2008, -3/+6Dude, relax. They're corporations. Here's a less angry view of what happened: a corporation moved its headquarters from one American city to another.
Written from Canada, where we used to have more NHL teams.- ..eD, on 07/03/2008, -1/+4Which is exactly why those "corporations" can build their own damn "headquarters".
- iceperson, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2Seattle has a pretty long history of paying "corporations" to relocate there and offering incentives for them to stay.
- ..eD, on 07/03/2008, -1/+4Which is exactly why those "corporations" can build their own damn "headquarters".
- ThaDRD, on 07/03/2008, -6/+4Doesn't Clay Bennett just look like the typical cocksucking business man in America? Would you expect anything less from from him?
- CACuzcatlan, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Similar to another (though fictional) Clay: Clay Davis
- acid0426, on 07/03/2008, -11/+6And it was your ***** arena. The NBA themselves demand a $300M renovation Key Arena to fit the standards of what an NBA arena requires. - CheeseNRice, on 07/03/2008, -5/+5Trying to get that cyber poon are ya? What a douche.
- macbookcoard, on 07/03/2008, -12/+25Wait...people live in Oklahoma?
I think this is a bad move, I doubt they'll have better attendance at the games.- ktchpmn, on 07/03/2008, -4/+14going to from a large market to a smaller media market just does not make economic sense
- CheeseNRice, on 07/03/2008, -5/+22You forget that the Hornets played in Ok City with good results. They will be fine there, and hopefully Seattle can bring in another team and add to the NBA.
- Daodos, on 07/03/2008, -5/+1Aparently, part of the settlement states we can't have a new team for a minimum of 5 years...
- jahurt, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1If Kevin Durant becomes one of the league's elite players, how long do you think he'll be happy playing in Oklahoma City?
- NachoBusiness, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1The NBA doesn't need more teams... that makes the average level of competition worse. It'll be not much better than college ball eventually.
- tdogg241, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2@Daodos: No, the settlement states that we get another $30m if we don't have a new NBA team in 5 years.
- babaduchi, on 07/03/2008, -4/+10I agree. OKC's talking about a very supportive fanbase when the Hornets were in town, but that's only because it was the new thing in town. There ain't nothing in OK except for college football, let's see how long they'll want to stay in OKC when the novelty wears off and they have trouble filling up the arena.
- spelchek, on 07/03/2008, -5/+8Hey I live there!
- MasterTroll, on 07/03/2008, -5/+6Oklahoma had several sellout games when the Hornets played there as a result of Katrina. The city clearly wants an NBA team.
- babaduchi, on 07/03/2008, -3/+11Like I said, let's see how long it'll be before the novelty of an NBA team wears off.
- ngmcs8203, on 07/03/2008, -3/+3And you don't think the whole "let's go support New Orleans because of Katrina" played a part in the attendance levels? It helped the Saints and they're "miraculous" run that same season.
- purvisxiii, on 07/03/2008, -3/+2We already know it'll take more than two seasons. Because that's how long the Hornets filled the Ford Center.
- chevyorange, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4Several sell outs? A good franchise has seasons of sell outs!
- Midtowner, on 07/03/2008, -1/+2When was the last full-season sell out in Seattle?
- babaduchi, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1http://www.supersonicsoul.com/2008/07/moving-along ...
maybe this ought to be a digg article of its own.

- elizabethb221, on 07/03/2008, -1/+5I go to OU...which is thirty minutes away?
- jls33fsls, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3Me too! Oh and by the way, it's like 15 minutes away max.
- ccarlson22, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1me three
- ccarlson22, on 07/04/2008, -0/+1you do realize that when the hornets left okc to go back to new orleans they went from the 3rd highest attendance average to the 2nd worst right?
- duke1981, on 07/03/2008, -4/+23I'm moving back to Seattle in September and I was hoping to see one last game.
I hadn't been to a game since Kemp, Payton, and Schrempf played together.- ngmcs8203, on 07/03/2008, -0/+9Those mid 90's teams kicked ass on NBA Jam, Live and whatnot
- DevilInPgh, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3Then you can forget about watching a Sonics game, because they're getting on their Mayflower trucks and moving to OKC right now.
- ersnyder, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1I play Sunday softball with Kemp in Ballard. You can come watch a bunch of 20 somethings and old farts play slow pitch if you want to reminisce the days of Kemp...
- nrichie2345, on 07/03/2008, -18/+2yeaaa baby! The Oklahoma City Sonics! Clay Bennett is the dad of one of my best friends and he's honestly the *****.
- onetimer, on 07/03/2008, -0/+8They won't be the sonics anymore, technically.
FTA: "Another element of the settlement is that the franchise will not use the name Sonics or SuperSonics, the team logo or colors. Bennett said a new name, logo and colors will be announced soon."
I'll miss Sqautch, though. The resemblance to Chewbacca always amused me...
http://frinklinspeaks.mu.nu/archives/Squatch%20dun ... - UltramegaOK, on 07/03/2008, -5/+3***** you! In more ways than one.

"Excuse me...Do you know who I am? _My Dad_ *knows* Clay Bennett"- DevilInPgh, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Then tell your dad to tell Clay Bennett to his face that he's a *****, and if he won't, then force yourself into a situation in which you find yourself with Bennett and tell him yourself that he's a *****.
- staxofmax, on 07/03/2008, -1/+3Enjoy your crap team.
- ccarlson22, on 07/04/2008, -1/+1we turned the hornets into a playoff team in two years of okc
we'll do the same with the sonics...or w/e they'll be called - tolbs, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1@ccarlson: They never made the playoffs when playing in OKC. In fact, they didn't make the playoffs until they left OKC.
- ccarlson22, on 07/04/2008, -1/+1we turned the hornets into a playoff team in two years of okc
- onetimer, on 07/03/2008, -0/+8They won't be the sonics anymore, technically.
- UltramegaOK, on 07/03/2008, -9/+2***** you! In more ways than one.
- UltramegaOK, on 07/03/2008, -3/+1This was meant for the comment above mine. Sorry.
- leonwehttam, on 07/03/2008, -4/+10He doesnt get the name or the colors sooo basically all he gets is some players. We can still have the Sonics in Seattle!
- jrburkh, on 07/03/2008, -0/+11Except for the part where Seattle no longer has a team.
- CheeseNRice, on 07/03/2008, -2/+3Actually, they can take the name, logos and colors if they want, they are just willing to leave it behind.
- swern425, on 07/03/2008, -1/+3From the article:
"Another element of the settlement is that the franchise will not use the name Sonics or SuperSonics, the team logo or colors. Bennett said a new name, logo and colors will be announced soon."
- swern425, on 07/03/2008, -1/+3From the article:
- handler, on 07/03/2008, -5/+32I'm not a Sonics fan, but I hate to see this for the Seattle fans.
- dohidied, on 07/03/2008, -6/+1Don't you care about Oklahoma fans?
- chevyorange, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4dohidied - you completely miss the point. Instead of getting an expansion team from the NBA, the dirty commissioner complicity stole a team from Seattle (here since 1967) to take to OKC where they will flounder and fail.
It is sad. Not only am I soured on the NBA, but pro sports as a whole. - dohidied, on 07/04/2008, -1/+1I didn't miss the point, I was just being a sarcastic ass. I don't care about Oklahoma.
- chevyorange, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4dohidied - you completely miss the point. Instead of getting an expansion team from the NBA, the dirty commissioner complicity stole a team from Seattle (here since 1967) to take to OKC where they will flounder and fail.

- tolbs, on 07/03/2008, -8/+14Oklahoma Tumbleweeds
..really, I know you Okies showed up in full force for the Hornets, but how long can that last? 47th largest market..I don't see it going beyond 5 years. It's a shame too...How the NBA allowed this to happen is beyond me.- shithappens87, on 07/03/2008, -3/+3This happened because Clay is sucking off Stern
- eastwood24, on 07/03/2008, -1/+7Didn't you know Oklahoma is drinking your milkshake...our economy is driven by the energy industry...and your hooked on it like crack...OKC will continue to grow and prosper while sadly most of america will continue to slip into a deeper recession.
- clutchperformer, on 07/03/2008, -4/+2Guess you weren't around during the busts, huh? It's more like the reverse, Oklahoma is addicted to energy money and while times are good they fail to diversify and invest in other things. Then comes the bust and it's a terrible, terrible thing to behold. Confound it man, they used to advertise low level jobs at the end of their TV news programs like it was an "adopt-a-pet" feature. Unemployment was rampant and the brain drain was unbelievable. I didn't take to living there but I sure wouldn't want to see those people suffer like that again.
- ccarlson22, on 07/04/2008, -1/+1I for one will be buying season tickets
- thatsoccerkid, on 07/03/2008, -6/+5dustblowers?

- Ugoff, on 07/03/2008, -15/+14Oklahoma sucks, I don't know why you would want to put your NBA team there. Hell they don't even give a ***** about any team except for the stupid Sooners.
- ohnoitstaylor, on 07/03/2008, -0/+6They don't have a team except for the stupid Sooners.
Unless you count the Arena Football Team, the OKC Yard Dogs, and the Central Hockey League Team, the OKC Blazers... which, as a resident of Oklahoma, I don't. - elizabethb221, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3Tulsa Drillers. Fun?
- leclairm, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2Oklahoma City Oklahomans.
AMIRITE?
You know Bennett is going to end up choosing something absolutely moronic like that in some grand attempt to make his team *all* of OK's team, not just OKC.
Case in point, Tulsa is way bigger, but NO they can't have the team THERE...that would be like having your team down the road in Olympia instead of Seattle. Hehe...
- leclairm, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2Oklahoma City Oklahomans.
- ccarlson22, on 07/04/2008, -2/+1let me guess your not from oklahoma?
if you dont know what you're talking about, then don't talk about it
- ohnoitstaylor, on 07/03/2008, -0/+6They don't have a team except for the stupid Sooners.
- Bajwa123, on 07/03/2008, -3/+30Such a shame to see a historic Seattle franchise leave like this after 41 amazing years
- DrunkTomato, on 07/03/2008, -3/+2Yeah. Except that lately they have been nothing but a tax-money guzzler. GTFO of my city, I say.
- Daodos, on 07/03/2008, -0/+5I'd rather have them sucking our Taxes, then a Monorail system that was planned and debated for years, and suddenly is canceled, and the left over money divided amongst some Seattle big shots. THAT WAS OUR MONEY! Or maybe a damn decision on the SR-522.
- tdogg241, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3The 522? I think you mean the 520. Of course, there's also the Viaduct BS to deal with too.
The fact that we voted on the Monorail 5 ***** times is a testament to how ineffectual we are at getting things done. - DrunkTomato, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1I think the light-rail system is a good idea, but all the bureaucracy that made it happen is truly very ***** and "wtf" worthy. Oh well, in 10 years it'll be here so get used to it i suppose.
- tdogg241, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1I think with gas prices going the way they are and buses operating at capacity during peak hours, there's gonna be a significant rallying call to get light rail that goes to Northgate, Bellevue/Redmond, Ballard, and even West Seattle. I just hope Sound Transit actually gets a transit-only package on the ballot for November.
- DrunkTomato, on 07/03/2008, -3/+2Yeah. Except that lately they have been nothing but a tax-money guzzler. GTFO of my city, I say.
- Submerge, on 07/03/2008, -8/+12Oklahoma City? I think there are a handful of better deserving cities. Can't see much of a following with that team.
Best of luck for them anyways though, but they should have remained in Seattle. It's better than California, New York, Texas, or Florida getting another team.- ngmcs8203, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3You mean we didn't need an NBA team in Fresno? JK... I think San Diego could use a basketball team, but five NBA teams in CA would be too much.
- clutchperformer, on 07/03/2008, -3/+1There are a number of bigger and more ideal cities to run this business. But you have to have lived in OKC to see how breathlessly desperate they are to get a pro team of any type there. They feel it makes them culturally relevant. It legitimizes them. It makes them cool. Except they fail to realize that other cities with pro-teams got them because the cities were *already* culturally relevant. Think 10 unique things about Chicago not sports related. Now think New York, L.A., San Antonio, Seattle, etc. Now... think Oklahoma City.
That said... the people really want this. They have earned and deserve this chance to show what great fans they are.
- MasterTroll, on 07/03/2008, -10/+5The Seattle SuperSooners... except they won't be as good. Wait, they both suck.
- ouRONIN, on 07/03/2008, -1/+25Oklahoma City would rather have the Hornets back.
- purvisxiii, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2Damn right we would! Chris Paul FTW.
Yay! We gotted a ***** team!
- purvisxiii, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2Damn right we would! Chris Paul FTW.
- tricks574, on 07/03/2008, -10/+17***** Bennet. I hope OK City doesn't turn a profit a single year they stay there.
- anandpopat, on 07/03/2008, -9/+16Hahahaha, what a joke. Seattle is where this team belongs. Hornets got attendance cause they were displaced and fans felt the need to support. I dont know if they are gonna have as much supporters for a team that is going to be just bad next year. I wonder how much money benneit would lose. He isnt very smart, Seattle is a huge city who will watch the sonics even if they are losing. That wont stay in Oklahoma
- unknamed, on 07/03/2008, -7/+16Well it sucks for all of us fans, that's for sure... but, I bet the players are pissed. "We're leaving a major seaside city for where?? Oklahoma? WTF?"

- whiteguysamurai, on 07/03/2008, -15/+22From one of America's best cities, to one of it's worst.
- cj485, on 07/03/2008, -3/+7well said.
- imdandman, on 07/03/2008, -5/+6OKC's not that bad...
- fuze44, on 07/03/2008, -1/+2That's the state motto. "Oklahoma is...OK. Yeah, not too bad."
- whiteguysamurai, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1Compared to what?
- nerfarrow, on 07/03/2008, -6/+12I logged in just to reply to this dip *****. OKC may not be the best city in the states, but it sure as hell is better than most. We have the lowest cost housing and gas. Also, our economy isn't going down the ***** like other cities. You people here might think the only thing OKC has are a bunch of inbreed hicks who drive tractors all day, but you'd be wrong. Personally, I could care less that we have a pro NBA team, but don't dis OKC because a few rich assholes paid enough money to move a team.
- Dr00pieS, on 07/03/2008, -4/+8The housing and gas cost less because that place is a ***** hole and no one wants to live there.
Written with love from Seattle. :) - BAFrayd, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1I completely agree there are a few rich assholes there. Let me also add: liars and slimebags.
- whiteguysamurai, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1As said above, Oklahoma is not even in the same subspecies as Seattle, It's a comparative hell on earth.
- Dr00pieS, on 07/03/2008, -4/+8The housing and gas cost less because that place is a ***** hole and no one wants to live there.
- bparkey, on 07/03/2008, -6/+4I may be biased, but give me OKC over Seattle any day of the week. Of course I prefer Tulsa to OKC, but what can you do.
I think people will be surprised by the support the team gets in Oklahoma. As long as energy costs stay high, Oklahoma's economy will be in good shape. Since energy won't be going down anytime soon, people will have the money for things like Basketball games. - zardoz73, on 07/03/2008, -4/+8Seattle has character. It has funky neighborhoods, great shops, and the people are in general very friendly (not to mention intelligent and well-read).
OK City is two words: urban sprawl. Truly, it's amazing how ***** homogeneous a city can be. Utterly boring and desolate. And the people there...well, I'm sure there are cool scenes here and there, but a lot of uneducated fatbodies is my overall impression.- ccarlson22, on 07/04/2008, -2/+2you've obviously never been to Oklahoma City
- mfhayes, on 07/03/2008, -1/+4OKC isn't as bad as everyone imagines.
I'm trying to pretend that I don't live in Norman and know what the city is like... and I would probably just assume it sucks ass.
But again, it's really not terrible. - jls33fsls, on 07/03/2008, -3/+7You haven't even ***** lived here so shut the ***** up and don't talk ***** when you have no idea. Jesus. I hate ignorant pricks like yourself.
- whiteguysamurai, on 07/06/2008, -2/+2I've passed though OKC once on the way to some place better.
You're city smells horrible and everyone seemed to don mullets.
What a repulsive place to call home, i feel pity for you.
- whiteguysamurai, on 07/06/2008, -2/+2I've passed though OKC once on the way to some place better.
- metrin, on 07/04/2008, -1/+1I did the same and created an account just to respond. Oklahoma City is a beautiful city and our sports fans are amazing. We are loyal and full of energy. They will pack the house. I guarantee it. We've been waiting a long time for something like this. So kiss our rich smart asses and move on!
- whiteguysamurai, on 07/06/2008, -1/+2You said you are "rich and smart".
That made my night, you haven't a clue as to either of those aspects. as we have the highest literacy rate in the nation, and a man who has more money than your whole state.
The average Washingtonian, even the ones with a McCareer have a higher standard of living than even the higher echelon of your state's society.

- johnlandes, on 07/03/2008, -2/+19At least Seattle didn't lose your team to ***** Memphis after only 5 years
At least the sounders will bring some good football to the region (hoping for Henry)- applemaggot, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2Thanks Vancouver. I liked the Grizzlies, Sonics, Trailblazers rivalry while it lasted. I'm looking forward to a possible NHL franchise coming to Seattle hopefully as well. We need a MLB franchise in Vancouver BC so you guys don't have to trek down here on Canada day like you did this week to see the Jays! I remember back in the Kingdome days the Jays fans almost outnumbering the Mariner fans.
- ersnyder, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1Nobody in Seattle cares about Hockey, same as Basketball.
- Kbriggs, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3I'm from Memphis. If you guys want this ***** team back it's yours, thanks for leaving us with that Big Country tab to ***** us over.
- DevilInPgh, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3You can thank management for getting rid of Shane Battier, Pau Gasol, and any other player that would have made your team relevant.
- applemaggot, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2Thanks Vancouver. I liked the Grizzlies, Sonics, Trailblazers rivalry while it lasted. - KolYma, on 07/03/2008, -1/+13If the city actually renovates the arena they can get a new team within 5 years. They get to keep the name and colors, so hopefully we'll see a brand new Sonics team in a few years.
- Chakat, on 07/03/2008, -0/+10Why should the city pay for a hobby for billionaire manchildren?
- thunderclap, on 07/03/2008, -1/+6Personally, I don't think it will happen and I for one will call my congressman to make sure he doesn;t vote for any money for you. You want a Team. Use your tax dollars to renovate your arena. Oh that's right Seattle voted NO twice.
- jbrand45, on 07/03/2008, -11/+5Good riddance . . . the Sonics suck, have always sucked, and will continue to suck in Oklahoma.
- bullsfan03, on 07/03/2008, -1/+7have always sucked? Gary Payton, Shawn Kemp, Sam Perkins, Detlif Schrempf are just a few names. Hardly a sucky bunch. Let's hope Durant can help get them back on track in OK
- BootsyGraham, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4Sam Perkins was amazing
- bullsfan03, on 07/03/2008, -1/+7have always sucked? Gary Payton, Shawn Kemp, Sam Perkins, Detlif Schrempf are just a few names. Hardly a sucky bunch. Let's hope Durant can help get them back on track in OK
- blitz718, on 07/03/2008, -16/+10basketball sucks
- Striff, on 07/03/2008, -4/+14Wonder if it is easier to pay the refs off in Oklahoma City?
- hockeyfighter09, on 07/03/2008, -2/+18Words cannot describe just how ***** pissed off I am about this. All those childhood memories I have of going to the Sonics and watching Payton and Kemp tear it up on the court. Darkest day in the History of Seattle Sports.
- thunderclap, on 07/03/2008, -3/+1Then how about paying to renovate your arena? We did.
- hockeyfighter09, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3Umm ok? That's why David Stern and Clay Bennett both said they wouldn't accept anything other then a ***** HALF BILLION dollar arena to play basketball in. Yet it was 100% ok to play ball in OKC in a newly renovated arena. So go enjoy your freshly stolen team this upcoming season asswipe.
- JazzCatDRP, on 07/03/2008, -10/+14Oklahoma sucks donkeyballs...and this is coming from a native Kansan.
Yes, I realize that has absolutely nothing to do with the article, but I thought it important enough to repeat anyway.- purvisxiii, on 07/03/2008, -1/+6Kansas is like Oklahoma without all the excitement.
- H2Glitch2007, on 07/03/2008, -2/+3You're one to talk Kansas sucks.
- JazzCatDRP, on 07/03/2008, -2/+1You're very clever...that was the point of my comment. Good effort though.
- db0255, on 07/03/2008, -3/+12What makes them think they could get more money from the OKC market than Seattle? Not to mention that it rains all the time in Seattle, and that's perfect for being an arena...watching basketball!
- trodemaster, on 07/03/2008, -2/+13Stopped watching sonics when Gary Payton left. Screw NBA I'm going to start watching the sounders http://www.soundersfc.com
- CACuzcatlan, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Exactly, the Sounders are on track to sell more season tickets than the entire capacity of Key Arena!!!
- mixmastabeef, on 07/03/2008, -10/+2washington sucks!
- chevyorange, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1From the state (WA) that brought YOU Microsoft.
- jeffaustin, on 07/03/2008, -1/+6I think this is somehow related to the fact that Sonic Drive In is headquartered in OKC.
- clutchperformer, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1I wondered about that myself but am assured there is no tie-in... which I don't believe.
- bovox, on 07/03/2008, -11/+14I'm from Seattle, and I say good riddance! I'm sick of these professional sports teams raiding the public treasury. It's just too bad the Seahawks didn't follow them through the door out.
- Dr00pieS, on 07/03/2008, -4/+8You're an idiot, and probably live on Capitol Hill or Queen Anne.
- ivxero, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3I live on cap hill and am heart broken about the supes. so boo to you!
- bovox, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1Yeah. I live on Queen Anne. You're an idiot. You probably live in White Center.
- ivxero, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1Think of the kids!
- thunderclap, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1Thank you for giving us the team. And please be vigilant to ensure that Clay doesn't have to pay the $30 Million either.
- Daodos, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1Did you really say that about the Seahawks!?
- ersnyder, on 07/03/2008, -0/+5The Seahawks are the only thing Seattle has going for it (in Pro Sports). They are the last team I would want to see leave and the only team people actually get excited about here.
- leclairm, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3You're a typical Capitol Hill Koolaid drinking moring, bovox...
Here's a newsflash, Walter Kronkite...Qwest Field was largely paid for by private money.
The breakdown:
$100M from Paul Allen (owner)
$127M from WA Lottery (not a tax)
$101M from taxes earned IN THE NEW STADIUM (not a tax on the public, only on users of the facility).
$15M from an extension of the Safeco Field Tax (the only public funding!!!)
So $15M out of what, $350?
Then you need to consider the economic impact that Qwest Field has had...all of the businesses in Pioneer Square have gone significnatly upwards, the general area around the stadium has been improved by it, etc.
Think of all the businesses around Key Arena that have leases through 2010 (or longer?) that are now screwed and may lose their businesses because there won't be basketball there every year like their buisness plan expected? Do they get to get out of their leases? Nope.
So yep, you're a moron.
- Dr00pieS, on 07/03/2008, -4/+8You're an idiot, and probably live on Capitol Hill or Queen Anne.
- 0Xonox0, on 07/03/2008, -6/+7I'm from Seattle, I've never been a big Basketball guy, but its still sad to see them go.
- yelley, on 07/03/2008, -3/+10I haven't been to a Sonics game in the 7 years since I moved back to the region, and I know I'm not the only one who never went. If I lived in giant dustbowl/tornado alley maybe I'd be excited to have a professional team in my area. But for me there are waaay too many other things to do here than support a team who barely win but demand a new facility.
I understand the history involved but has *anyone* really followed the Sonics since Kemp left?- pagno, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2From what Ive seen, OK is more desolate NW Texas.
- Ryan166, on 07/03/2008, -5/+3Should've moved to Vegas!
- hockeyfighter09, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4They should not have moved at all.
- ivxero, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3At least we would not have been as angry. OKC, are you kidding me!
- Branchex, on 07/03/2008, -3/+9It's horrible move to let the Sonics leave, shame on you NBA for letting this happen, way to but money before the fans. At least Seattle gets to keep the name for a new team someday, which is definitely better than what happened with the Hornets
- pagno, on 07/03/2008, -11/+6"Ooooklahoma Oklahoma Oklahoma!"
"This is the happiest day of my life; I think my testicles are dropping!"
OK Im done.- fuze44, on 07/03/2008, -0/+0is that sung to the tune of "Gary, Indiana?"
- Ex3poo, on 07/03/2008, -7/+7Seattle still has there grunge and coffee
- ivxero, on 07/03/2008, -2/+2Umm....no. coffee maybe.
- Daodos, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1I still like grunge... And I do drink coffee while listening to Nirvana.
- ivxero, on 07/03/2008, -2/+2Umm....no. coffee maybe.
- dmcbride6, on 07/03/2008, -4/+16There are still a good deal of Sonics fans here...unfortunately not enough to fill the key arena (and its pretty small...).
The vast majority of people in Seattle are sick of the Sonics and their premadonna *****. They haven't performed in years and yet feel they are deserving of MORE of our tax money. I'm pretty relieved Seattle has finally rid itself of those losers.- thunderclap, on 07/03/2008, -3/+1Thank you for giving us the team. And please be vigilant to ensure that Clay doesn't have to pay the $30 Million either.
- chevyorange, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1Thuderclap - Clay the Fag Liar Bennet will pay. Trust me. I only wish it cost him more.
The lying sack of *****.

- conjuror1972, on 07/03/2008, -1/+13we lost the grizzlies, now the sonics are gone. If I was an nba fan i'd be pissed.
- dalnet22, on 07/03/2008, -4/+4Should've gone to Vegas.
- cadmiumpaint, on 07/03/2008, -3/+8I give em less than 5 years before they move to a real city. Seattle will get a team back at some point. It makes no sense why the League would allow the sonics to move to an 8th tier city like OKC.
- kratsnitram, on 07/03/2008, -1/+3hear, hear.
- staxofmax, on 07/03/2008, -4/+13As a Washington native, I'd just like to say ***** the NBA, bring on the NHL!!!
- duke1981, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1I went to a minor league game in the Arena (couple years back when I visited for thanksgiving) and it was packed.
I would love to see the NHL and even Arena Football - DevilInPgh, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2And let the "Nashville Predators to Seattle" rumors begin.
- Daodos, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2Man, I wish I loved hockey. I mean. I want more opportunities to go to games.
- hockeyfighter09, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1Agreed
- ccarlson22, on 07/04/2008, -1/+1amen
- duke1981, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1I went to a minor league game in the Arena (couple years back when I visited for thanksgiving) and it was packed.
- 41k1d0k4, on 07/03/2008, -4/+4Saint Louis would've been a better market for the NBA
